I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone!
Last night I installed Bitcomet (latest version). Well I'm done using it and I uninstalled it via programs and features. Then I rebooted. Now when I find a file on Internet explorer 7 (any kind of file really) that I want to save or open, nothing happens.

If I click on a file to download the usual Windows Prompt opens and asks me to Save/Open/Cancel and if I click Open or Save, nothing happens. This use to work fine before I installed BitComet.

I figured out the problem. When you install bit comment it ties itself to I.E. browser extension during the install. So it kinda becomes the download manager for I.E. So I need to figure out how to set this back to default since I uninstalled Bitcomet.
I set programs to default. I looked in file extensions and that looks normal. Crap this sucks!
Any ideas?

Raj

A:Internet Explorer Save/Open Function

You could try opening Internet Options in Control Panel. Click on the Programs tab and select Manage Add-Ons. It is possible that removing BitComet did not remove the reference within Internet Explorer.
Other than that may be worth checking your File Associations and make sure BitComet is not set as the default application for opening specific file extensions.

Ok, what in the world is going on with this? First off, I'm at THIS webpage because I had two IE windows open already. Not too long ago I attempted to open up a third, and I can't do it.

Every time I try to do so I get the error message that I put in this threads title. What can I do to resolve this?

A:"Internet Explorer could not open the search page." (I can't open any new IE windows!

I just found out another detail for you.

In the IE windows that are already open, when I click on a link that opens a new window on it's on...it works.

The only problem is when I try to manually open a new one myself. So, right now, I'm rather afraid to close all of the IE windows currently open and to restart my computer.

Hello,

I've just done a full factory default restore using Packard Bell's Smart Restore. Wiping out all my installed programes which is what I expected however when re-installing my browser and addon IE7Pro I no longer have the drop and drag function allowing me to highlight a search term or web written link and drag it to the left or right opening up a new tab in a new window.

I would like to know how I get it back, Or if I've missed something simple disenabling this function thanks.

Both my browser and add-on version is the same as before I did the restore.

I searched around the forums, but couldn't find anything that targeted my problem specifically.

Machine:
HP Pavilion a6742p
Windows Vista Home Premium x64, SP2
Pentium Dual E5300
6GB DDR2 RAM

This is a friend's computer that isn't opening Internet Explorer 9. When you double click it, it opens in the background and is listed in Task Manager. However no window opens.

Running AVG and Malwarebytes turned up 0 infections for both.

Uninstalling IE9 and rolling back to IE8 had the same problem, same for reinstalling IE9. Reset IE defaults, no result.

I installed Firefox and Chrome on the machine, and they were opening fine at first, now they take about 2 minutes each to open. Safari, which was already installed, opens fine.

Internet Explorer without Addons has the same effect and doesn't open, but still runs in the background, and can be killed in Task Manager.

I know there is a virus which runs IE in the background and plays audio ads periodically, but this isn't that because IE doesn't run when I don't want it to run, it just simply wont open a window.

I am using Internet Explorer 7, and when I open it the home page will show up which is fine. When I use the address bar to navigate to a different website, all that happens is the home page is opened in another window (usually several different windows at a time). I have tried reinstalling IE 7, and have run antivirus and malware scans with no success at finding the root of the problem.

I know somewhere there is a simple answer to this, but I have been scratching my head and googling for hours with no joy.

I have IE9 browser pinned to my taskbar.
When I click on it a windows internet page opens with my home page (google). The E icon now disappears and I have the google (or what ever site I am on) in the taskbar.

Ideally what I want to do is click on the IE9 icon in the taskbar and it REMAINS there and the home page opens up with the bar remaining in the taskbar.

So for example if I clicked on the IE9 icon five times I would have five separate pages open with 5 bars all showing google in the taskbar.

I hope that makes sense, I used to have it that way before I reformatted .

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

A:Internet Explorer 9 open new window from taskbar

Hello TheEagles,

You should be able to right click on the IE9 icon on the taskbar, then click on Internet Explorer to open a new window of IE9 to your homepage.

You could also press and hold Shift, and click on the IE9 icon on the taskbar to open a new window of IE9 to your homepage.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Have you tried unchecking 'reuse windows for launching shortcuts' in tools>internet options>advanced? Also, you can try adding the 'new' switch to the IE shortcut, right click on the shortcut>properties and add [space] -new at the end of the target box.

I play online poker and in one of my programs, when i click on profile and then my account to check my account stuff, it opens up with internet explorer. The problem with this is it doesn't even load. It just freezes every single time. Is there a way to have the box open up in chrome?

The thing is all my internet tabs and searching are in chrome. I do not like internet explorer not firefox. I actually think i deleted internet explorer off my computer because when i go to remove program files... i don't see internet explorer there. Does that mean it has been removed?

However, when i go to windows icon on the bottom left and then type internet explorer, i see it. It always have the message at the bottom would you like IE as your default browser. However... the page never ever loads. For example i click on it and it goes to msn.com but i never seen msn.com. The page basically freezes.

You might be able to create a desktop shortcut to open the online poker website. See the last post in this forum thread:

windows - Specific browser for specific links - Super User

If the online poker site now opens in Internet Explorer it doesn't seem likely that IE has been removed. You could check to see if IE was turned off rather than removed.

Here's the deal - I have a quick shortcut to my C drive on the desktop, so that I can just double-click it and go straight to browsing my files. However, today, the search function decided to make itself the primary function. When I double-click it now, it opens a search window instead of the C: drive.

Can someone tell me how to make it so double-clicking it will, by default, use the "open" function instead of "search?" Thanks in advance!

Hello,

A week ago my computer started playing ad sounds randomly but I first couldn't see where it was coming from. I thought it was from a page I had opened but even with Firefox closed it kept on doing it. And it sounded like it would play only a portion of the ad, like a few seconds. Later I started seeing small ad windows and experiencing random redirections to commercial websites on Firefox. I also noticed I was using up a lot of internet data (it went up to 15 GB in a day). And finally I noticed internet explorer was open in task manager but I didn?t open open it and there was no window to be seen.

I have Kaspersky AV and ran it with no results. I ran MBAM and it found a bunch of potentially unwanted program which I all removed. I also went through my program list, googled the ones that I din?t know and uninstalled a couple that were suspicious. After that, the random sounds and ads and redirections stopped, everything seemed to be OK.

But, a couple of days ago I noticed high data usage again and checked task manager. Here it was again, internet explorer open with no visible window. There was none of the other symptoms though. I ran Kaspersky and MBAM again with no results. I also tried MBAM anti-rootkit with no luck. I installed NetWorx in order to try identifying what was using so much data. I found that avp.exe was using a lot but I later read that this was actually Kaspersky and that some programs would connect to the internet via Kaspersky hence the hig... Read more

Things I've tried:

Checked DNS settings, all ok.
Ran spybot BUT I could not update it. It said no newer updates but I know there are. Same for adaware.

Ran CWShredder. It said the systems were clean.

Ran qhosts fix tool as I thought it might be a virus.
Ran winsock repair utility and rebooted.

Still same problem!

One user has Windows 2000 and the other Win XP Pro.

Have you investigated as to what event occurs at 1630?

Whatever it is, it's the probable cause of the blockage.

Is there any maintenance being conducted on the server at this time during the day?

The possibilities are endless, and you would be the only one that could determine the cause, as you are on the spot.

Post back with the results of your 'snooping'.

When I use Google, the results appear to be correct but when I click on them, I am redirected to incorrect sites. The sites vary according to what I am searching for but are never the proper nor relevant sites. Additionally, an perhaps unconnected, when I open Internet Explorer, the window opens but then shuts down.

Problem:
Cannot open WLM main window, but individual components still function. When I start WLM, the WLM 2011 start screen appears on the desktop with spinning circle next to the word "Starting", and it continues in this state, unless I go to the taskbar notification area and select "close window" on the mail icon. So far, I have found that I can use all the WLM components, but just cannot get it to open to the main home page (on the desktop; not speaking of the web version here.) For instance, if I go to the icon in the notification area, and select "new email" or "new contact", the appropriate window will open and function normally. Also, the program continues to download any new mail to the appropriate mail folder. And, I can go to any of my acct mail folders or storage mail folders and open any individual mail just fine in a message window. Another strange thing is that the wlmail.exe *32 process is running (otherwise I would not have all this functionality), but the WLM application is not open in the applications tab of task manager. So something is keeping WLM from completely opening the app.

When the problem started:
I was using WLM fine yesterday. I put the system to sleep for several hours without closing any windows or apps, and then later my wife awoke the system, chose switch users, and then logged herself onto her profile. So my profile was still logged on with WLM still running in my profile. My wi... Read more

Problem Resolved: I finally identified the root cause and resolved the issue late last night. For those who just want to know the simple basics, in case they have a similar problem, it was a a corrupt calendar database file; to be specific, WLCalendarStore.edb, which is located at ?(store root folder)\calendars\DBStore?. The simple fix is to rename the file, something like WLCalendarStore.edb.bak, and then try to open the WLM app. This is all it took to properly fix the problem, and WLM app opened as normal again, with all of my accts, messages, and Storage folders intact. The app will generate a new default WLCalendarStore.edb, and if this fixes the problem, you can then delete the renamed corrupt file. You may lose some Calendar info, but you would anyway, if it is corrupt, and I have not been using the Calendar that much anyway. Too bad that it took me nearly a week to remember that the calendar database in MS mail apps is always a prime suspect if the app freezes when opening. I used to know this 10 years ago when I supported thousands of enterprise users, workstations, networks, and servers, etc. But I have forgotten so much now and my memory is not what it used to be....when you do not do this stuff on a daily basis, your skills decline quickly.

The rest of this story is more complex, and I will share a little...(too much happened to go into much detail.) To start, the problem could have been resolved within a minute, instead of a week, had I remem... Read more

I have a windows 7 msi laptop that until recently has had no issues.
The past several weeks however, Internet Explorer closes unexpectedly multiple times when I am online. Also, I cannot open PDF files and Adobe Reader will not reinstall. iTunes won't open, and pictures won't open when I double-click them.

No error messages have shown up...the programs simply just do not open. I have the latest version of iTunes, and I am unable to download any version of a PDF file reader, but I previously had Nuance.

I have NO CLUE what to do or how to begin trying to resolve this issue, and most of my work files are PDF so this is becoming a huge problem...please help.

A:Internet Explorer closes unexpectedly, Adobe Reader won't open, iTunes won't open....

Hello and welcome to TSF,
The first step would be to try a different browser and see if your online problems keeps happening. If you are a hardcore IE fan, see if there is an update for it. As far as your pictures and files are concerned, it might need a simple solution like Disk Defrag. Many people overlook this, but hey it works! You can also do a Disk Cleanup (also built into Windows) which clears some unnecessary junk.
Good Luck!

Hi All,
I've been racking my brain trying to see what is going on and I cannot for the life of me figure it out. So I was hoping that someone on here might be able to help. Here's my situation. As I mentioned in the title something is going wrong with internet explorer and it opens in the task manager but is not open on the screen (although I do often see a little flash of something like a window popping up every now and then but only a flash then it's gone). Also I will click on normal links (like cnn.com after searching google for "cnn" and it will send me to some random website, usually trying to sell me something). Finally after some invesitgation it looks like there is a false iexplorer.exe file on my computer that got there somehow, and I think is causing issues. Oh and my windows firewall and symantec have been disabled. I have scanned with malwarebytes, adaware, spybot, and a few others with some each of them finding things but nothing has been fixed.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance,
-Duck

My computer (OS Windows XP Home) has been running rather slow and recently I have not been able to access any internet sites. I have successfully connected to more than one wireless network and had 100% signal strength. When opening internet explorer, my preset homepage has disappeared and internet explorer is attempting to connect to errordns.com in the lower left corner of the window. The address bar remains blank. The explorer window then continues to constantly connect to errordns.com as if I were clicking Go on the right side of the address bar numerous times and overwhelming internet explorer. I am not able to access anything else which requires an internet connection, such as limewire or my AIM icon. I have attempted to change my homepage address in the internet connections options but the same repeating connection to errordns.com occurs. I do not have an up-to-date antivirus system currently. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

Sometimes I will have 4-5 browsers open at once. I will then close all except one of them.

When I go into task manager, Processes, there will still be 4-6 "iexplorer.exe" processes open.

I don't want this. Why do they remain open after closing the browsers?

Is there a fix for this?

A:IE8: Multiple internet explorer processes open with one browser open

Do they stay there until you restart the computer or do they go away after you close all of the browsers? Also when you open more browsers again does more processes come up as well as the other already there?

Please do not edit the logs, though I'm sure you meant well. To rid yourself of those O18 entries, you can uninstall Logitech's Desktop Messenger. It's not really necessary.

From their site:

Quote:

If you choose to disable to uninstall the Logitech Desktop Messenger you will not receive any messages about updates to your products. However we will be posting on in the downloads sections of the Logitech site. So if you choose to monitor the Logitech website as an alternative, you will be able to access the latest updates.

It should be located at C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt

Please post it.

If it's not there, please do this:

Please run Deckard's System Scanner once again, this time using these instructions:

Click the Windows 'Start' button > Select 'Run' - then copy/paste this into the run box & click OK
"C:\Documents and Settings\Michael Beuhler\Desktop\ZonedOut\dss.exe" /config Click on "Check All"

Click Scan!

When finished, it shall produce two logs for you. Post those logs in your next reply.

Whenever I search in W7, I want to have the ability to open found folders in a new window. If I r-click, that option is not there. Is there a way to add this to W7?

Also: When I go to 'open file location', the file's folder opens in the same window - highly annoying. In Vista, it opens in a new window. Anyway to change this behvior in W7 to act like Vista, so the file opens in a new window?

Hi everybody

I picked up some nasty malware. AVG was updating and suddenly everything just fell apart.

I can't run any installation programs regardless of the extension or name. I've tried to install Rkill and MalwareBytes with absolutely no luck. It defaults to needing to be unblocked in the properties and no matter what compatibility mode I use it will not run. I get a 1084 error when I try to open the security center. In the taskbar I have an Action Center alert that says 1 Important Message and 3 Total Messages. The Action Center will not open at all. I do not have access to a USB key as I am not home, but I will be Tuesday evening. Any help would be infinitely appreciated.

Other notes I forgot: I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and I am constantly getting errors that Windows can't load and needs to be repaired. It runs and restarts, sometimes being repaired and other times not.

Thanks a lot
Jared

A:Action center won't open, Internel Explorer only browser that will open, no MalwareBytes and RKill will not open

An update.

I've tried running MalwareBytes and RKill from a flash drive which is also not working. Windows also ends up unable to load, the startup repair runs and things work fine. Not long after Windows tries to update and then it becomes unable to load again and the startup repair runs again.

I tried running a registry fix for the .exe problem and I get an error stating that the registry is being used even when no programs are running and I am in safe mode.

Hope this information helps
thanks
Jared
