Window 2000 Professional wont restart

Q: Window 2000 Professional wont restart

My computer shut itself down and as it restarted it hung on the windows progress bar and reverted to a blue screen with the following message: Stop: 0X00000024 NTFS- File System Address BFFS78A2 base at BFEF 3000
Date stamp 3edebe95 NTFS.SYS. Nothing I have tried will reboot it. I will not do anything but the blue screen. I have virus protection and firewall. It will not even boot from the Windows 2000 CD to check for errors or even reformat.

Preferred Solution: Window 2000 Professional wont restart

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just upgraded from w/98 1st edition to w/2000 professional. When the computer reboots and gets to the logon I enter the password and it says saving system settings, then goes back to the logon screen. I enter the password again and same thing, it just continues looping through this. I'm sure I'm using the right password cause when I enter the wrong one it says check username and password. When I enter the right password it just starts the loop again. I could really use some help on this please. Thanks

Will someone please explain to me briefly what the difference is between all of these? Why would one want one over the other?

I guess that Windows 2000 is sort of like NT Workstation. If not, please tell me.

And what is the difference between Windows 2000 Server and 2000 Advanced Server?

A:{Advice Offered} - Windows 2000 Professional, 2000 Server, 2000 Anvanced Server--the difference?

Win2K Professional is, indeed, just NT Workstation 5.0

The real difference between Win2K Server and Win2K Advanced Server is scalability. To quote a CNET article: "Three versions of the operating system will be available next week (it's an old article): Windows 2000 Professional, aimed at PCs and workstations; Windows 2000 Server, for file-and-print servers; and Windows 2000 Advanced Server, supporting clustering, which is a way of making several systems act as a single, more powerful computer.

To quote the FAQ from www.winmag.com:
Windows 2000 Professional is the workstation edition of Windows 2000. This is basically Windows NT Workstation 5.0, although Win2K Professional of course includes all of the new technologies for Win2K.

Windows 2000 Server/Advanced Server is the server edition of Windows 2000, which is designed to serve small- to mid-sized businesses and workgroups. Server supports up to 4GB of physical RAM and up to 4 processors per computer. Advanced Server supports up to 8GB of RAM and 8 processors per computer.

Windows 2000 Datacenter Server is designed for large businesses and computer clusters. Datacenter supports up to 32 processors per computer and up to 64GB of RAM, as well as built-in clustering and load-balancing features.

Is that what you wanted?

I am running Windows 2000 Professional Workstation. When selecting 'restart' as a shutdown option, Windows 2000 will not restart. Instead I have to press the hard reboot button to get it going again. Monitor seems to go blank, but doesn't shut power off to monitor or hard drive. Power scheme is currently set to "home office/desk", hybernate support is shut off, the tab that give me the option for "power off or standby" is set to power off.

I have Windows 2000 professional at home.
First, the sound worked, but the modem did not.
Then, I messed with the settings and the modem worked, but the sound did not.
Then, I found that the modem would not share the IRQ with the sound. I could not change them (they were both on 10)
I took out and uninstalled the modem.
I tried to change the IRQ, but windows would not let me into the profile.
I put the modem back in.
Now, the opening screen says: Found new hardware, Disk Controller. It just says that, and will not download.
I cannot change the IRQs, I cannot enable or disable anything. I cannot install or uninstall anything, because the system says install in progress.

Welcome to TSG.

These errors are often associated with a device driver problem.

Your error suggests a problem has been identified in the openhci (Open Host Controller Interface) usually associated with USB devices.

Try updating any USB device drivers?

Hi there! I am having a problem and I hope someone may be able to help me. I have recently installed a cookbook software program at home and at work. It works fine at work, but runs very slow and stops responding at home. Here's the catch: same o/s, similar memory, and even less hard drive at work! Why doesn't this program work? I have been talking to their software engineer and we keep going in circles. Short of completely wiping out the hard drive and reinstalling all of my programs, what can I do? I have no viruses, and I am positive that system processes have not been missed placed.

When I start this program at work, it takes up about 80 - 100 % of the CPU process, however, at home it takes up less than that and stops responding.

I am really at a loss and this is grating on my nerves, but I LOVE this software and I am sure it will work, but I just don't know what's wrong.

Can anyone help me?

Word has never been part of Windows, in any version.
Its either part of Microsoft Office, or Works Suite (not plain Works).

So unless you actually obtain and install such a program you will not have Word.

I had an old version of itunes on a desktop with win 2k pro. I was trying to update itunes and had to install serv pack 4. Screwed things up bad on my computer.
I went in safe mode into i386 and was deleting things 1 by 1. I'm tech savvy enough to get around but don't have enough knowledge to do things safely - which is why I'm posting a question.
At this point when I start up the computer can't find any os.
I've looked at the master slave settings, I have a second hard drive in the computer, and other older win computers. The other computer has win 98 on it and when I add the second hard drive to it it tells me that hard drive two (says "0" on the screen) can't be found.
Is there anything that can be done with a hard drive that says "os not found" ?
I put in a 98 cd and of course it won't load an older os - it started the process but doesn't finish because 98 is before 2k, I have an xp cd but it doesn't work. The hard drive doesn't recognize it all.
I have switched the boot order so that it will boot from cd first and it won't recognize
any cd i put in. I got an ntfs boot disk to try and repair, it doesn't recognize that one either.
I have possibly 3 or 4 things that I can try before I take it somewhere and pay to get the data out.
I rarely use the computer but have some use for some of the stuff on it.
can anyone help?

A:window xp professional

Windows XP 32-bit will recognize and use a maximum of about 3.25 GB of RAM.

Windows XP 64-bit will recognize and use more than 4 GB of RAM.

Unless you plan to install it in a computer that has and needs more than 4 GB of RAM, use the 32-bit version.

You may also run into a problem with installing and using certain programs with the 64-bit version.

alright heres my dilemma....
I am trying to install windows 2000 onto my hard drive(brand-new, 40GB)
I want two partitions (C: and D: drives)
I want 10 GB on C: where windows is to be installed and 30GB on D:
I have set up the partitions as such.
I then installed windows
Then it says that d: is unformatted so i tried to format it through windows.
I soon after found with a little help from the web you cant format more than 2 GB worth of space
since i have already installed windows on c: is there anyway to format d: without having to do a full reinstall? If i have to do a full reinstall I'm still not sure that i know how to format both partitions. Maybe I'm just missing something I don't Know?
Any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you for your Time

A:windows 2000 professional

After installing Window on C Drive, you can use Disk Management Utility from Window to format your D drive.

You only can format up to 2GB if you used FAT16 File System. In your case, I don't think there is any problem for you to format the 30GB on drive D
