Preferred Solution: windows component based servicing missing sub keys

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What happens when you attempt to run SFC?
What happens when you attempt to update Windows?

'servicing missing in the registry'?? WTH does that mean?

Hello all!

I'm having some trouble with Windows Update, specifically with KB4019264 and KB4019265, and now KB4022719. I'm assuming it may have something to do with these 208 missing CSI Wining Component Keys I just found out are missing. It seems for now that the Monthly Quality Rollups for Windows 7 (x64) updates are the only updates failing, as everything else seems to update successfully.

For the past month or so I have tried numerous suggestions, such as running the MS Readiness Tool, MS FixIt, renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder etc., yet they have failed every time at resolving this issue. From reading, I gather I need to provide a source to recover these missing CSI files. I have another PC with all current Window's updates running W7 Pro x64. I just need instructions on what I need to copy over, or where to start.

If it helps, below is the output from SFCFix. I also uploaded the CBS folder to Dropbox if anyone cares to take a look at it. Here is the link: Dropbox - CBS.zip

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

Product keys for Windows 8 computers aren't printed on a sticker.
They're encrypted in the BIOS. How might that affect you?

My question: is this possible..?? Can a OS write to BIOS..??
If it true you can NEVER switch to a other OS..!!! You need to buy a new PC...

I have windows xp, usually it works pretty good. However, recently I have had one too many problems with my sonic DVD plus, most of it would not work, so I uninstalled it. I think I might of inadvertently removed something called sonic.inf. Because later on when I went to add and remove some windows components, I get this darn error message, missing sonic.inf file contact systems administrator. I ran both virus scan, spyware and maleware programs thinking I'd picked up a bug, and they showed no problems. I am not a computer geek TOTALLY LOST ON THIS ONE, HHHHHHHHHEEELLPPP!

Thanks a bunch, Deana.

A:windows xp component, missing sonic, inf file HUH!!!

Hi .

Any .inf file should be a driver, let me look it up.

I don't see anything conclusive on it, so I would not worry about it...it's not an XP file (which means that it's expendable).

The exact error message would reflect context and location.

I'm really not sure what happened to my Windows Media Player; however, I DO have children/teenagers using the same computer - I may never know. My Media Player had been working and in the last week or so when attempting to play a song I receive an error message indicating Media Player is unable to run "due to a missing component".

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program. (Interestingly, the first time I unstalled the program and re-booted - it was still there!?)
I have also made sure the PC is current with regard to Microsoft updates.
The machine is running Windows XP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance!

I'm trying to reinstall the Microsoft Subsystem for UNIX based applications on my Windows 7 Enterprise work PC after having lost a hard drive and it seems
that the links to the Utilities and SDK for Windows 7 are no longer working.

Here is the technet article I've been using, https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771672.aspx ,and the referenced link to the Utilities and SDK for SUA package at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=139521  just returns a "Sorry
the Page requested can not be found result. I did see over on the Vista/Server 2003 download page for the SDK that it gives an alternate link to the Windows 7 installer of http://www.microsoft.com/download/details.aspx?id=2391 which also returns the same "Page
not found" result as the first link. The Windows 8/Server 2012 page does not reference any links back to the windows 7 version... it just appears this SDK is just gone. Any suggestions on where the SDK for Windows 7 has gone so I can get this reinstalled?

I'm cross posting this over to the TechNet section since the Microsoft Community suggested it would be more appropriate. The initial post to Community was at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-winapps/subsystem-for-unix-based-applications-missing/908c5fbf-0fb1-435a-9fde-8a0394724242

Hi everyone

I recived an ASUS PRO50G laptop today from a friend in return for fixing his second laptop, he told me it show's an orange charge light and when he turns it on it show's the green lights for 3-4 second then it turns off and all the lights go out...
Another 3-4 seconds the charge light comes on again shortly after.

I didnt know what the problem was i assumed it most likely was out for the count, well i got it home and right away gutted it.
It turns out that its a missing component that appears to have been ripped off the board, the problem here is that i have no idea what it is.

So my question is, can you please help me identify a component and find a replacement?

luckily the legs for the missing component are kind of still there and so is some blue stuff that came off onto the board.
I have looked all over the board and came across this witch has the same legs and colour of blue on the bottom of the component it has IR8 08379 written on it, i was thinking that it might be the same part? can anyone tell me what it is though?
I have attached 2 picture's.

Thank you so much to anyone that can help or has any instight.

Hello -xp here.

In my trying various solutions to fixing my windows updates installing problems I've found out that I'm missing this very important registry;
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\

I can get to this far in that registry path -
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\

Can I add that missing path into the registry [after I make a registry back-up]-and how do I do it if its possible- or is it too dangerous?

I'm following this suggestion at kelly's korner site; under 'updates'.
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_u.htm

Update - Issues

There are various solutions being put forth for the failed update result.

Option 1) Click Start, Run and enter SERVICES.MSC Go to Cryptographic Services and double click it. It should be set to Automatic and should be Started. If you were required to change this, try the Windows Update site again.

Option 2) Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate

If the key WindowsUpdate does not exist, create it by right clicking on the Policies sub-key and selecting New, Key and giving the new key the name WindowsUpdate.

Within this key, you may see one or both of the following DWORD entries:

NoWindowsUpdate and/or DisableWindowsUpdateAccess

If either of these entries appear, change their values to zero by double clicking on them and setting the value to 0 (zero). If they do not appear, add them as DWORD entries wit... Read more

Hi everybody! For some reason the file 'TrustedInstaller.exe' went missing and kept causing errors when trying to install updates.

Anyways, every time I try to paste that file into the windows servicing folder, it tells me access is denied and I don't have permission to this folder. I'd also like to add that I'm the admin of this computer.

Any suggestions? I really wanna get this fixed. Thank you in advanced
edit: I have tried using the program 'Unlocker', but nothing happend. I also tried right clicking on the folder and go to properties and change the ownership to full control, but it wouldn't let me. The words were grayed out.

Hello mermaidxlove, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You may be able to do a system restore at boot using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened to hopefully fix this.

Hope this helps,

I went to an elderly couple's home yesterday to work on their eMachines T2958 desktop which hadn't been serviced and updated in 14 months. It has XP Home SP3 and IE8 and Firefox 3.6.13.

I updated their programs from a CD-R that I had brought with me. I uninstalled AVG Free 9 and then installed Microsoft Security Essentials to replace it. I also installed the current versions of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware to replace the very outdated versions. There were several XP updates that hadn't been installed.

Here is where I ran into a problem. Although I was able to get on-line and load webpages with IE8 and Firefox, I was unable to get the Windows Updates site to load. I was also unable to get MSSE and MBAM and SAS to update because of an alleged connection problem.

I've never run into this situation before and am stumped, so I've decided to ask for help here.

Gents,

I hope that someone out there can help me with this problem.

I am running Vista 64bit opperating system with Office 2007. I have a problem with Outlook which often closes or freezes which needs to restart. This brings up an error that says....

"This program requires a missing Windows Component" " This program requires MSVBVM50.DLL which is no longer included in this version of Windows"

I have checked for solutions online and searched the web but am unable to find anything.

Is this a common problem with Outlook and Vista 64bit? Is there a solution?

Look forward to hearing from you all.

Kind Regards

Trevor

Hi Trevor,

I see no one knows a solution for you yet. I'm not familiar with Outlook either. You might try posting a copy of this question in a Outlook Newsgroup for someone that knows more about Outlook.

I hope I am not in the wrong section, it's been a few years since I have been on here...I need help. I can't seem to sync a program I have been using, from my computer to my cell program. The company says I am missing a framework component. They said if I could show someone the error I keep getting they could tell me what I needed. However I can't copy and paste it. I had windows 7 and updated to windows 10 but they said that I must have been missing this framework since I got my computer, and if not maybe when I updated as there is a hole. I know it worked before I updated to windows 10 so is there a chance something didn't get loaded when I did the update ???? Does this make sense to anyone and if it does, I sure would appreciate your help.
Thanks,

Ok, this is a bit of a strange problem, I think.
It started last week, when on my computer the night before I was playing a game I had installed a few weeks previously. That was the last thing installed. The next day after playing the game on the night, my girlfriend starts up the computer and there's an error message before login saying...
"winlogin.exe could not start because SHLWAPI.dll could not be found" and then all you can click is 'OK'.
After about 30 seconds, it comes up with another error message saying...
"lsass.exe could not start because the component SHLAWPI.dll could not be found" (or something similar, same component though). After clicking ok on that one, it stays on the blue screen forever (not BSOD) and we have to restart the computer. In short, we cannot logon whatsoever.
So, we took it to a friend, who knows quite a bit about BIOS and stuff, and we took in an XP disc we used to install XP that was from a different computer, we had preinstalled Windows before formatting so we had a keygen, don't worry, but we had to use a Medion XP disc instead of one that matches the computer.
We attempted to replace the missing component today using the Recovery Console, but it has a password on the disc preventing us from going any further.
Formatting is not an option at the moment. We have many serious college documents, vital to our current assignments (possibly meaning that if we cant get the work back we could fail our course) and other... Read more

A:Missing .dll component from System32 Folder

Hi and welcome to TSF.
I'll see if I can rescue your files for you. First, if you need these files urgently I suggest you follow one of your own suggestions which was to slave the drive in another machine. It might be worth doing that anyway just in case any files get lost during recovery. Once you've done that the next thing is to get a new copy of shlwapi.dll. Having read through your post a couple of times I'm still not sure why you haven't got the original installation disc or recovery discs. You will need to download and create the Ultimate Boot CD which you can get from here. I suggest you download the self-extracting file from here then burn the ISO to CD using ImgBurn. You can then boot from this CD and copy the dll file from c:\windows\dllcache to c:\windows\system32. If you have any problems doing this post back and I'll guide you through it.

Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2 x64 Edition - August 2016 (KB890830)

I had updates on automatic. Subsequently I one Blue apology screen, otherwise all seemed fine until this morning. I left the computer for about 10 minutes and upon my return, it was rebooting. Nothing I had been doing should have caused that. The rebooting process was quite overly long as if it was installing an update. Once back up, I checked for any updates and none were shown. I began investigating and identified that I had 1511 and the Windows update info page show it correctly and another version ?Anniversary Version? 1607. I noticed this section:

Not knowing if the 1607 upgrade would cause the loss of my Pro version I looked and could not understand the above Windows 10 Servicing policy.................................... Why should/would I defer upgrades ???

A:Windows 10 Servicing Options for Window 10 Pro update blurb

As I understand things, Windows 10 Pro gives users the ability to kinda, sorta customize how updates and upgrades are handled. I'm running 10 Pro v1511. When I click Start > Settings > Update & security > Advanced options, I see this dialog box:

You can choose to have updates installed automatically (recommended by Microsoft) or you could have Microsoft notify you to schedule a restart when it's most convenient for you. You can also select how updates are delivered. You can select to receive updates from one source (Microsoft) or from more than one source. (Microsoft says this could speed up app and update downloads.)

But also on the above dialog box is an option to Defer upgrades. An upgrade is when Windows 10 receives a major overhaul (like going from v1511 to v1607.) Some folks want to wait a while to make sure the bugs are ironed out and they don't want updates downloading/installing the latest upgrade.

As far as a lengthy restart after installing the latest updates, all I can tell you is my computers took an average of 30 minutes to finish the process. I'm guessing that was due in part to my ISP's download speed as well as the scan done by Microsoft's monthly Malicious Malware Removal Tool.

I hope this helps a bit. If not, I apologize for taking up your time.

April 2015 servicing stack update for Windows 7 (KB3020369) & files dates and versions
Hi!
Windows 7 Professional SP1 (x64). Checked - April 2015 servicing stack update for Windows 7 (KB 3020369) is installed (listed), but ... when I check files pointed in KB article (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3020369) then only file I see is dated and versioned as in article is Poqexec.exe (6.1.7601.18766 142,336 18-Feb-2015 07:04). I'm bit confused. Other files (most of those, at least, not checked all) is dated back to 2010. Is that ok? Don't see any problems running Windows's (not one, but several machines I already checked have same "oddity"). This update installed via Windows Update, presumably.
Drvstore.dll is 6.1.7601.17514 (11/21/2010 05:24), but in article it should be (after KB3020369 installed) as 6.1.7601.18766 (18-Feb-2015 07:05).
I missed something? Any ideas?
More thanks, Alar.

Hi. I've been having issues with popups and performance lately and my AVG and MBAM scans weren't finding anything so I tried booting into safe mode and scanning that way. Much to my dismay I found that in the middle of loading the partitions the computer would reset and I would get a black screen telling me that safe mode failed to boot and that I should try loading windows normally.

I opened up my regedit and low and behold, the SAFEBOOT subfolder is missing entirely. I'm not really comfortable poking around in the registry, the only experience I have with it is looking around. I really kinda need to have safe mode, but my computer didn't come with a cd that I've seen mention of for fixing this kind of thing. Is there a way I can just manually restore the missing registry keys by typing in the necessary information?

In addition, I noticed a few keys which don't seem like they are supposed to be there, I searched them in search engines but with no results. I've included the key and the information that comes up on the little side-panel when I click on the key in question.

A:component richtx32.ocx or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid?

Hello,
I would like to confirm that what program did you install when you encountered the issue. Make sure the software is suitable and compatible for Windows 7 (64-bit).Check its compatibility:  http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx
Based on my research, if the software ,that was released without sufficient runtime files, may gives you Error 339 stating file missing error, such as"RICHTX32.OCX or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file missing or invalid.", which need this file should be upgraded to work with Windows 7.You will need to download RICHTX32.CAB and unzip the archive and extract the file RichTx32.ocx to the X:Windows\System64 folder.(X partition is the system boot partition.)If you still receive the error, register the RichTx32.ocx module using the following command (from Start, Run dialog):regsvr32.exe %systemroot%\system64\RICHTX32.OCXYou should see the message DllRegisterServer in X:\WINDOWS\system32\RICHTX32.OCX succeeded. after running the above command.

Run-time error '339':
Component 'vsflex8l.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid
I have tried several things to register the the file, but everything has failed.
Has anyone else had success with correcting this error?  If so, can you provide instructions?
Thank you in advance for your help.

A:Run-time error '339': Component 'vsflex8l.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

Hi,
vsflex8l.ocx is a file associated with the Development Tool ComponentOne for .NET developers. This error can be thrown from time to time if vsflex81.ocx is not properly registered.

To resolve this issue, re-register the control. To do this:
1.Locate the vsflex8l.ocx file by searching for it in Windows. Once the file path is located, follow these steps to register DLLs or OCXs:
2.Press WIN+R combination key.
3.Type regsvr32 "<path>\NameOfFile.extension", where
<path> is the directory where the file is located on your computer and
NameOfFile.extension is the name of the file.
Example: regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\Mydll.dll
4.Press Enter.
5.If the file registers successfully, the following popup message will display: DLLRegisterServer in
<path>\NameOfFile.extension succeeded
Example: DLLRegisterServer in c:\windows\system32\vflex8l.ocx  succeeded
Meanwhile, I would like to suggest you contact ComponentOne support for help.Karen Hu

For whatever it is you are installing, the software may have a pre-requisite that needs to be installed. This particular file may already be in your OS... Which Windows 8 is it? 32bit or 64bit?
If you search for this file on your PC, it may need to be registered first.
According to my research, running a VB6 application is still supported in Windows 8.

I've read many posts about how to resolve issues attempting to install .net 3.5 features on Windows 8 in a corporate environment where an alternate WSUS location is specified by group policy.
On the client, you're supposed to set "Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair" in gpedit, which I HAVE gotten working.
However, I'd like to set my domain policy to this same setting so I needn't set it on all clients manually.  The setting isn't there under "Default Domain Policy"
Figuring it was a schema version for AD, and AD was missing Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 specific settings, I ran adprep /forestprep, /domainprep (told me there was no work to do), and /domainprep /gpprep (told me there was no work to do).
The "Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair" setting is still not available.  How do make this setting aware to AD?

Recently I was communicating with a dictionary app developer asking why some of the hot keys didn't work in their app. They wrote back claiming they did. In further research of my system I found out they were correct. I found that some of my hot keys on my metro side are not working. The idea is to snap this thing to the side, highlight a word which lights up a bar in the app, Alt/Tab over to it, and then press Enter for it to look up the word, but Enter doesn't work. Left mouse click within the app works as it should.

All of my single keys and most of my combination keys like Alt/Tab for flip, WinKey/E for FE, Alt/F4 for closing, etc work, but my WinKey/Arrow(s) combination to snap apps don't work, however they all work on the desktop. Mouse-pointer-to-hand-gestures work for snapping Metro apps. Strangely hot keys work with snapping desktop apps. At some time within the last couple of days things went south on the Metro side. I booted into my 8.1 partition to find out they all worked there.

I ran scannow. It fixed some files but not some others, of which was confirmed in the log file. That didn't fix my problem. Then ran DISM (online) which fixed all files, but didn't do the trick either. Then just for grins I ran the app troubleshooter which didn't find anything, but that warned me that my video driver may be out of date. I checked that out and that is not the case. It's the same driver on my 8.1 side and all works there.

It feels great overall.  The only thing that surprised me (I didn't notice in the pictures before I bought and didn't think about it before) and that I find myself really missing is having the home, end, page down, and page up keys. I never thought about them because they were always there before on my other computers and on my previous yoga... now that they're missing I realize I actually used home and end keys quite a bit to go to the start and end of a line instantly when editing. With the 910, you have to hold the Fn key and hit the arrow keys to have home or end or page up page down keys. Hope a future yoga will bring back those keys.
