I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello!

This is definitely a Windows 10 thing. If I connect either my Nexus 5 or my LG G4 to my PC via USB the phone is recognized. I can see it in Windows Explorer but clicking on it does nothing, no access to files.

Before I made the jump from Vista to Windows 10 it worked fine. There has to be some setting someplace. I did apply a hotfix (KB3099229_x64) which was supposed to fix the issue. It did not!

If there's some trick to it could you share it with me???

Thanks for you help way in advance!

Dave

A:Android device recognized but cannot access files on it

Are you sure you switched your phone to "File transfer" mode, as opposed to "Charging only" mode? Because this is exactly what happens when you connect an Android phone in "Charging only" mode: it becomes visible in Windows (e.g. in File Explorer), but shows as empty device - no file access.

In standard cookie-cutter Android Marshmallow you are supposed to manually switch the phone to "File transfer" mode every time you connect it to the computer. (Before Marshmallow it was possible to set a default mode, but for some reason they removed that capability in Marshmallow).

I've been using file and printer sharing for quite a while on various home networks, but this problem has me completely stumped.

I have one folder on each of 2 Windows XP Pro machines shared. I can access some of the files in this shared folder but not others. The problem is not specific to size (some are larger, others are small) or type (some are EXE's, others are .TXT's). I simply get the "Access denied" error when trying to open, run, or copy some of the files.

I've tried deleting the folder and re-creating it, and that doesn't work. I've disabled Windows firewall on both systems. That didn't work either.

Hi All,
I have a problem where my windows 8.1 laptop after a weekend network update will no longer access shared folders on my company's network domain. If I use a different machine to login (windows 7), access to the folders is fine.  Our IS team assures me
that all permissions are correct. I don't want to if possible rebuild the machine as I have specialised software on it that has taken a while to get sorted, including something that links to a local sql server instance.
Could this be a corrupted profile?  Any suggestions on a solution please? Will I lose ability to use any existing software and / or will I need to re-set these up?
I appreciate any guidance.
Regards, Alexis

Hi, I have an Android's phone which can share its internet connection through wifi (as usual). It worked fine for three months since my last message, but not now. Maybe because of some automatic system update ? The laptop's WIFI connection is fine, it works on every spot. But when I share my phone's connection, the laptop see the network, connects to it but I don't have internet access. It says "No internet, secured" and I see the WIFI icon with a yellow exclamation point. I checked Lenovo Support website, with my configuration (Ideapad 710S Plus-13IKB Laptop) but no WLAN driver seems to be missing. So I'm a bit lost :-/ Thanks for your help.

I have set up my connection as per the following article
http://www.siyge.com/2013/03/24/create-hotspot-in-windows-8-adhoc-network/

The netsh commands I used are:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=MyWlan key=qwertyui keyUsage=persistent

netsh wlan start hostednetwork
The difference is:
a) I am sharing a USB modem connection
b) I have turned off Windows Firewall ( I use Comodo nternet Security)
I have a dell n5010 laptop using Windows 8.

When I tried to connect my Android device to it, the device simply gets stuck at the "Obtaining IP address step"
I decided to use a Blackberry device and the same error occurred.
To be doubly sure, I even used another Laptop running Windows XP SP3 to connect to the hostednetwork, even it got stuck at the "Obtaining IP address" part for some time. Then it got connected with "Limited or no connectivity" status.

A:HostedNetwork is Set up, Android device is unable to obtain IP Address

The following procedure worked for me.
1) Disable Internet Connection Sharing from your modem connection -> properties -> Sharing Tab
2) Enable it again.
3) Disconnect from the Internet.
4) Reconnect again
5) Restart ICS service from the "services.msc" window.
6) Stop the hostednetwork
7) Start the hostednetwork
8) Internet Sharing is now enabled and everything gets resolved.

I used to be able to access my Windows 10 machine from my Android tablet via smb:// but this has now stopped working. My Android file manager app can still discover and get the correct name of my PC, but username/password is no longer accepted.
The only thing that has changed since I last attempted to access my PC from my tablet is one or two automatic Windows updates.
I tried trouble shooting and got the ?one or more network protocols are missing on this computer? error, which it says it fixed in administrator mode, but it didn't change anything.
Googling on various fixes mostly seem to result in pages of people not able to connect to the internet at all, but that is not my problem.
Anyone encountered this?

A:Samba access from Android device stopped working

There is a File sharing app out there for Android devices. When connecting to workgroup shares on an Android OS or iOS device, the OS can block you from doing so, to protect the OS and device.

Windows uses CIFS for sharing, not SAMBA. The version of Samba that Microsoft uses, is a very crippled version and has had issues recently since the last update. Download ES File Explorer from the Google Play store and use that to access your shares. I have never had any issues with it.

You have to turn on DLNA sharing. It is not enough to just share and give permissions. Click on Cortana and type media streaming options. She should give you a link right to control panel applet. Enable it.

Hi everyone,

I have a simple network with four computers connected together via a switch. Three of the computers are Windows 2003 Server; the fourth is Windows XP Pro. All four machines are in a domain and everyone can see everyone else.

There is a shared folder on the XP Pro machine.

I can access this folder from two of the 2003 servers, which are set up to be domain controllers.

But I can't access the shared folder on the XP machine from the third 2003 server, which is not a domain controller. Error message is access denied, no permission to access the shared resource.

I can see the shared folder but unable to access any sub-folder. The weird thing is that I can access the other shared resources on this XP machine. Just this particular folder that denies me access to its contents.

Please give me some idea to troubleshoot this problem.

Many thanks for your help.

HI, I Have shared a folder in a workgroup. One computer is Windows Media Center and the other is xp home. The windows file sharing wizard has been run on both computers. The file being shared is a database file inside All users \ application data\ folder. shared the folder for both read and write and even went into safe mode to set permissions to full. From the client computer I can see the folder but cannot open it. I have disabled the fire walls and set exclusions in the antivirus "avast". They are a part of the same workgroup and the user names are the same for both computers. I still cannot for the life of me get this folder to open. I sure do hope someone has an idea. PS I can ping both computers from each other.

Hello - i'm a bit embarrassed to be posting on this site as i'm usually quiet competent at troubleshooting windows problems.

i'm running xp home sp2 over a wireless net. i've been able to successfully share folders and a printer over the small home network for the past 2-3 years with no problem. the apt that i share the net with recently added some pc's and i noticed them in network neighborhood. i didn't want my shared folder to show up so i disabled it on one of my pc's.

now, after a restart (both soft and hard shutdown), i am totally unable to access the shared folder, and the files within! it shows up in network places but when i try to get into it, i get the following error message:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents is not accessible.

Access is denied.

Some things to note:
Yes, I am logged in as an administrator
I tried to go back to some automatically set restore points to see if that would resolve the problem...it did not.
Firewall is on...I've tried it off, etc.....no change.
I've tried hitting the folder through all of the profiles in the "Documents and Settings" folder directly off C:

I am really, really hopeful that this is just a simple config issue that I'm not aware of and that the data is still there!

Please provide me with any possible resolutions that may help me find my data. Of course, if you need any other info to help, please contact me (directly offline preferred....i do have ... Read more

Dear All,

I am working in domain with 30 desktops and one server. Every user is able to access shared folders from every other system as per rights assigned.

But in one system, whenever an user tries to access shared folder he gets the following message:

"\\*.*.*.* is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The account is not authorised to log in from this station."
This message appears for all users including local administrator, domain administrator and users.

All systems can be pinged from this system. Also, all other sytems can access shared folders from this system.

Is there any registry related issue or some hardening issue(uses rights assignment)???
or is there some change to be made in ADS related to this particular PC.

Hi, I have a home wired LAN with the following configuration:
1) A Win 7x64 PC (static IP)
2) A Win 8.1x64 LAPTOP (static IP)
3) A Synology NAS (static IP)
3) A TP-LINK TL-R600VPN Wired Router connected to a cablemodem (internet access WAN) and to the switch.
4) A Trendnet 8 port switch connected to the 3 clients (PC, Laptop and NAS) and to the router (TP-LINK)

I have created a Windows Homegroup (Home/Private) from either the PC or Laptop going step by step as per these instructions and making sure that in both the PC and Laptop all requirements are met (required services, adapter settings, etc). The Homegroup is created successfully but the following issue arises:

- From the PC I can access shared files in the Laptop (by going to Windows Explorer/Network for example). From the PC I can also access the NAS shared files.
- From the Laptop, even though the Homegroup shows "Joined", I cannot access any shared file in the PC or NAS (it will show Error 53, network path not found). If I try to map a network drive (to directly access a shared folder in either the PC or NAS), it will also display an error saying that the network path cannot be found. However from the laptop I can access the NAS using the browser (Firefox, IE, etc).

So what is preventing the access to shared folders in the LAN from the laptop?

Thanks for any clue.

A:Unable to access shared folders from LAN client

Try without Home Group enabled. It should not affect you accessing the NAS. I have the same router as you do. I do not run any firewall within the LAN, due to the router is robust enough to guard against any inbound issues.

Do make sure that you have file sharing enabled, and both computers are set as "Private Network", for their adapters.

Home Group just makes it easier to share Libraries and printers across a network. But in turns it creates a huge headache in these kinds of instances.

I am running into that the Lenovo ix2-4 NAS that I have. Does not even show up in Network on either of my two laptops. So I ended up just saving it as a Favorite in Explorer. There is something with the TL-R600VPN, causing that issue, that I have not pinned down to. I am about to start playing with the ARP table on it, to see if that is what is causing my issue with the disappearing NAS.

I am retired, and on here a few times a day, so if you want to work together on this issue, shoot me a Private message.

Hi experts,
Bit of a head scratcher....
We have a windows 7 laptop, lets call him Lappy1, which is attempting to access the standard user's share location on a server, lets call him Server1.
Server 1 has three shared locations, Share1, Share2 and Share3.  The user's files are stored within Share3, inside a few nested folders.
All devices are on the same network.
Lappy1 can connect to the root of Share1 and Share2, but is getting an access denied message when accessing Share3.
WAIT!! before you start hastily typing away asking me to check the permissions to the share or the NTFS permissions on Share3, i need to explain the reason this is a head scratcher!

It doesn't matter what user account is used on Lappy1, the same result as per above is experienced.  If I use any of those accounts used on Lappy1 on my own desktop device (or most other devices for that matter), they are able to access Share3 with
no issues. This doesn't just affect this one device, there are maybe 3 or 4 devices out of many thousand devices with this same (or apparently the same) issue.  I have only had contact with this one, so I cannot comment with any certainty on those others that
have been mentioned by the techs.I have tried adding the user account used and the machine account to the share permissions for Share3 with no success. The device has been removed from the domain and re-added.The only workaround that has been used previously is to re-image the device, thereby removing... Hi,

I have been having some problems with my ADSL network, and having spoken with tech support, that is now fixed, after stuffing around with my ADSL settings.

However, (and I'm not sure (but doubt) if the above is relevant) I now find I cannot access my shared folders on my ReadyNAS storage.

I have previously mapped several folders on the NAS under "My Computer" and they would come up automatically as drives X: Y: and Z:. Now they don't, and when I try to access them I'm presented with a box from "Windows Security" asking me for a password; which I haven't needed before and know nothing about.

If I try to re-map them I get the same message.

I never applied a password to any of the shares on my NAS; in fact if you can, I have no idea how, and no reason to.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Machine A and B are able to access the share on C via hostname and IP address. -ran ipconfig /flush dns on all machines. Then ran net stop "dns client" and net start "dns client" -restarted router -ran problematic machine (B) in safe mode (no anti-virus). -ran the other machines in safe mode. -on machine A, ran net use to map P: as the machine B share (machineb\share) by mapping to its host name. Successful drive mapping and ability to access. When I try the same to the IP address it's fails again. -disabled firewall on both ends

Why can't I access this folder via IP address? I'm pretty sure I'm putting in the right address as shown by ipconf... Read more

Note: It seems adding Everyone and giving it read/execute permissions solved this problem

thx,

Hi,

I have two Vista PCs on a router based home network. If I access private files and folders from PC #1 to PC#2 I can successfully access them. However, when I go the other way, I get an error Acess Denied. Windows diagnoses this by saying " 'folder name' is available but the user account that you are logged on with was denied access". I do have public folder sharing on, and this works good, but the private folders are not accessable. I even tried giving my private folder sharing permissions for the 'everyone' account full control, but I still cant get access it from another account.

Is there an account I need to add to the sharing to get this to work?
NOTE: on the computer I cannot get to share files, the system was originally XP, then I bought a Vista upgrade CD. I changed the name of the only user account on it from 'administrator' to 'Paul' Perhaps file permissions got screwed up.

NOTE 2: When I try to give 'everyone' read/execute access, Vista runs through all the files, changing permissions. However, many folders display an error message " access denied" when it tries to change permissions on them.

I am using windows XP and logged on as an administrator but can not create or copy files and folders in to the shared directory. Is says 'Unable to create new Folder, Access is Denied. I can create files in all other directories without any problems. The only other thing running is Macafee Security Centre (viirus checker and firewall)

I created a new administrator account and had another go but this made no difference.

Has anybody any ideas what I need to do

Hey guys

I cant get my streaming client (LG BD390) to show my shared folders on my pc.
It displays my pc, but doesn't attach those shared folders that are supposed to be shared.
If i access my computer from another windows pc there is no problem at all.

I have altered the share configurations every possible way imaginable but nothing will get it to work.

As you can see on the pic ive attached my pc is "ANDREAS-PC" my gf's is "VIBEKE", her pc is displaying her shared with no problem.

The wierd thing about this issue is its only the simple "share this folder" that does'nt work. Because on the pic attached you can see both the "ANDREAS-PC: Andreas" which is the windows media player (if im not mistaken) and the "Nero MediaHome 4".
MediaHome can share whatever i like from my pc, but by doing so it takes endless amount of resources and cannot display subtitles for video files. Thats why i don't wanna use that instead of simple windows folder share.

Things ive tried out:

Altered every single option in the sharing center. like turn on network discovering and such (for public netowrk too)
Reinstalled windows 7
Factory defaults on my router and my LG bd390.

Does anyone have an idea about what could be wrong?

Thanks in advance ppl

A:Unable to access simple shared folders on streaming client

This is from newegg reviews.

Rating: 2/5Beware Windows 7 64 Bit Users!

Pros: Blu Ray, Upscaling, Netflix, Media share can use Orb, Windows Sharing or Nero MediaHome. Ripped DVD VOB files can be streamed right to your TV. You can't really navigate too well but the quality is very nice.
Cons: The media sharing has a pretty clunky interface but is otherwise usable. Nero MediaHome CD that comes with this unit is not compatible with 64 Bit operating systems. Neither LG or Nero claim responsibility for this. To resolve this issue you can pay $1.29 a minute for phone support to Nero to have them tell you to buy the full version. The Full version does work (Seems like a scam to get you to spend more.) So if you are willing to pay more for the full version of the Mediahome software then you can get this to work.

You couldn't pay me enough to use Nero. Your A/V software can also cause this problem. You will also need to update the firmware on this disk player. Also if you are using a Dlink router you may need to update the firmware.

You can read through the reviews in the link below. These reviews give good clues on how to fix problems..

I got a trojan the other day that installed a spyware program called Spy Sheriff. There was much cursing and swearing, but after my trusty version of AntiVir as well as a plethora of spyware programs I managed to clean the system of all viruses and spyware as far as I know.

My troubles didn't end for long. Next I got a (fairly common) problem where it says "services.exe has caused an error. Error code 203. Rebooting your computer in 1 minute" or something along those lines. I googled a bit and found that this is often associated with registry keys not matching your actual network setup. Anyhow, I ran a registry cleaner program and THAT problem seemed to go away.

Now however, my network is all messed up.

My setup is as follows: Two home computers plugged into a router that is hooked up to my DSL modem. One computer is called Office, the other is called Bedroom.

The printer is hooked up to Office, and is shared. Both computers have a few shared folders that the other can access.

After I ran the cleaner, Bedroom is no longer visible on the network. Office can't see it in the workgroup, and I can't access any shared folders. I CAN ping both computers using the IP addresses, but each computer can't ping the other using the computer's name. Each computer can ping itself using both its own IP and name.

Here's an interesting thing I just found too; when I open my computer as it should appear on the network by typing \\Bedroom\ into the ad... Read more

I have 3 win7 machines on my home network and one unraid (NAS) server. All my machines can see each other they are all under the same workgroup. However they cannot access each other c or d drives. I have setup shared files on one and when i attempt to access those folder windows says network error . windows cannot access you do not have permission to access.

I have setup all my windows machines to network discovery on, file/printer sharing on, use 128 bit encryption, turn off password sharing. homne group connection is set to - use user account to connect to other computers.

Ive been at this for ages read a million threads and still cant get access.

Should i not be able to access my laptops c and d drives from my imac running windows 7? and vice versa.

any help will be appreciated

Cheers
Steve

A:PC's see each other but cant access shared files.

Hardrive sharing requires additional steps than just sharing a folder.

   Warning
Sharing the C drive can cause a huge security risk since anyone on the network could potentially damage the machine remotely. Proceed at your own risk
This post should show you how to share a drive across a network, please replace the drive with the particular drive you wish to share - HDD sharing

Hope This Helps,

I recently purchased a notebook PC which came with Vista 32bit Business installed and I am attempting to network it via WiFi to my existing network (via a router) which has two XP PRO PCs attached. The XP Pro PCs can access each others shared files and folders and have a printer also attached to one of them which they both can print to.

I have added the Vista notebook to the network (same name as the XPs workgroup name) and it can -
access the internet
access the shared files and folders on both XP PCs.

Problem is that neither XP PC can even 'see' the Vista notebook and it's shared files and folders. When I open "My Network Places" the Vista shared folders are not displayed even though I have set permissions on the Vista shared folders to 'everyone'.

I need help.

A:XP cannot access shared Vista files

I would start with this article:
Teach XP and Vista to play nice on networks - Computerworld

For some reason they changed he default workgroup name. XP is mshome and vista is workgroup.

I have never used wifi network but I have wired with a router. I found it easiest to try accessing the already shared folder c:\Users\Public. It's equivalent to All Users on XP and should already be marked as shared.

Once I got that to work, then I could share a folder and add a printer on the Vista machine to the network. First just go with the Vista Public folder and see if you can make the Vista machine visible from XP. That's most of the battle. Once you get that far try adding a printer. For some reason it will never work right unless you get the network to see the Vista machine's already shared stuff, then share other folders as you wish. Seems like if you set the folders shared first, it's just a nightmare.
edit: it's been awhile since I struggled to get this set up but I seem to remember in the sharing settings in Control Panel for the Vista machine, if you tell it that it's on a Private Network then you can set up to share without using passwords.

Hi! I have Vista x64 Ultimate on my desktop and Vista x64 Home Premium on my wireless laptop. I?m trying to share files and folders. I believe I?ve done everything I needed to enable file sharing on both computers. All my Sharing and Discovery buttons are turned on except Password Protect Sharing. I added ?Everyone? to my sharing list on both computers. Both computers have the same Workgroup name.
My problem is that I don?t know how to access the shared files/folders from either computer. All the web sites I?ve visited tell me how to enable sharing but none of them tell me how to access them. It?s probably a simple process but I can?t figure it out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
P.S. If any of my files or folders have the same name on both computers would that be a problem?

Hi guys,

I have 2 XP desktops who share files with each other with no problems. I just bought a new Vista laptop (Home Premium) and I can't access the files on the XP pc's (it gives me an access denied message). I've read up on this all day and have yet to find a solution. Anyone know what the problem could be? I see the XP pc on my network map but when I click on it, it gives me the access denied message. Oh, and I can ping from all pc's no problem.

Thanks

Hi,
On my home network with 4 PCs I can access all shared files with no problems except from one PC. This PC is running XP SP3 and any files in the folder when it is shared are available and can be opened no problem but any new files moved to or created in this folder are can't be accessed by any of the other computers, as in "Windows media player cannot access this file. The file might be in use, you might not have access" and so on.
Never met this before on my others systems new files and old files are all available as long as they are in a shared folder.
Thanks for any suggestions

Hi,
I just bought a laptop yesterday and I'm trying to fit it into an already existing home network(wireless not wired). Everything work except the Laptop can't see my PC's files or folders even though I turned off all firewalls and Antivirus software and shared the folders manually and shared them through the homegroup options(both are running Windows 7, the PC has Ultimate 32-bit and the Laptop has Home Premium 32-bit).
It tells me that there's a Network Error and "Windows cannot access \\ANDARTHIEL-PC\" with the error code 0x80070035 - The Network Path Was not found
Any ideas?

I would suggest you try one thing at a time either Homegroup or normal sharing. Try these and see if you can get rood results. Good luck.
