Lenovo 110 S battery power / power on issue

Q: Lenovo 110 S battery power / power on issue

I purchased a Lenovo 110S a week ago. I?ve found that I have issues turning it on sometimes whereby the power indicator flashes a few seconds but the laptop doesn?t power on. This happens with enough battery power, for example it?s happened when I have had 50% battery power remaining. I plug the laptop into mains AC power and it will then power on. But im stumped as to why this doesn?t happen all the time. If anyone can offer help it would be appreciated! PS: my battery is a concealed one ie; in the laptop casing with a cover that?s screwed on.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a strange issue. I have a Lenovo T60 laptop and I am experiencing problems with the power management/power guage.

It will often show the battery not installed (power gauge is a greyish-white color with dashed lines) or it shows a red X. It does not matter if I am on AC power or on Battery power, it will show the full range of power, battery level, not installed, or an error.

I have searched Lenovo's site and I seem to remember seeing an FAQ about this, but now that I need it, I cannot find it.

What can I check or do to stop this? While it is annoying, I am not sure if I am having a battery problem or not. I did check my battery on Lenovo's site to see if it was recalled and it is not.

I do appreciate any help that any one can give me.

Thanks!

After upgrading to Windows 8.1, the Lenovo Settings app was missing a few features. I installed the latest Settings Dependency package, which returned the Power options to the App. However, "charge to 50% to extend battery life" is still not available. Any word on this?

I have a Lenovo G50.  It will occassionally act strange.  The battery will start draining while plugged in.  Can't stop it but the battery will drain.  Then the unit will just go off.  I got a replacement power cord.  Seemed to do the same thing.  Will get to the point where the red battery light is flashing, it's plugged in a tries to come up but then goes off again.  Left it to sit for a while and it then came up.  Only to do it again.  Then, I took the battery out and it came up with just the power plugged in.  Then another time went to the recovery screen and wouldn't come up.  Then did.  It's up now but I need to watch the battery icon to see if it starts to drain again.  Then fiddle with the cord and it seems to stop. What is it?  Battery bad?  Power cord connection bad?  I am on a brand new power cord now.

A:Lenovo G50 Power and battery issues

Hi Jeffskyhook,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can have your charger checked on a different machine to check if it is ok.
Remove the battery and connect the charger.
See if you would be able to use it with power and then wiggle the cable a bit to check the integrity of both cable and dc in port.

To check the operational charging of the battery, place back the battery and connect the charger.
Allow it to charge without turning on the battery for 1-2 hours.
The battery indicator should go from amber blinking to white to say that it still have viable charge life.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

I have an issue with a G50-45 notebook. The owner is an older acquaintance of mine who couldn't use it with the WIndows 8, which is the original OS comming with it, so in order to install a WIn 7 was needed an update of the BIOS (Downloaded from the official Lenovo support center ofcourse). After the update I finaly managed to boot Windows 7 on the notebook, but now it won't turn on, while battery is on. I tried the battery draining suggestions mentioned not once or twice in this forum, and nothing gave result.(Ref: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-B-and-G-Series-Notebooks/G50-won-t-start-on-battery/td-p/2140152 )  When pressing the power OR the Novo button it is getting in a cotinous boot loop while battery is on. I tryed many varieties, but while the battery is installed - the notebook keeps restarting, but when I remove it and power on only on AC, evrything seems to be going quite well. So after I installed the new OS, I digged myself into the forum, and I ran onto the above mentioned techniques, but unfortunatelly after several tries - I give up. My question is - do you have any other ideas? Is my problem hardware, because it does not exit when I remove this particular hardware - the battery, or it is some issue because of the updated BIOS?  I hope somebody will give me the next direction how to fix what I did, please =) Thank you in advanced  BRStacy

Hi Got a Y5070 about a month ago, 11 months left on the warranty. When I received it, I replaced the HDD with an SSD, and upgraded RAM to 16Gb, and installed Windows 10. Ever since I've had it, when on battery I would get random power losses. Exactly as described here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Lenovo-Y50-70-Sudden-Crash/m-p/2093711#M124398 The solution to that poster's question was to "reinstall OS because of NTFS error". Since there are multiple users complaining about the exact same circumstance, I can't believe that an OS reinstall will fix it. When it happens again, I'll get the dump file and event log entries and post them here.

Hi. I got my custom order X280 In July with all features for office purposes and use it just 15 times since then. The battery was never drain in shutdown mode in the first days of use. I remember that after one week being off the battery had the same percentage of charge at restart in the first month of use. Since then whenever I start it I check in Vantage if there are updates and I made the necessary updates every time, Windows updates, System updates, Bios etc. By about two weeks I noticed the battery is discharging between 6 and 8 percent overnight which is quite frustrating and annoying for a three month product. Something happened which consume the power overnight when is turned off. If they are Lenovo employees on the forum please advise me what to do. I would like to know is there is a warranty defect, something that can be fixed by the following updates or something that I can personally change in order everything come back to normal. PS. I have the USB ON disabled from Vantage Thank you.

Over the last few weeks, I seem to be getting the BSOD frequently. Probably averaging at least once per day. Almost always, this occurs within 15 minutes of taking my laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad E530) off AC power and using battery power. Note that I'm usually watching a video and maybe have a few tabs open when this happens, so I'm not doing memory-intensive things and I don't think the laptop is being overheated or something. After the BSOD, I can usually reboot quickly and then get back and running smoothly, even if I just remain on battery power. Though it has happened where I got the BSOD consecutively.

Here is the error report I receive from Windows when I reboot:

Hi Lenovo4g510i5,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with power in your Lenovo G510 laptop.

Perform the power drain, to perform please disconnect all the external devices connected to the system shut down the machine and remove battery and adapter. Now press and hold the power button for 20 seconds. Now connect the battery and turn on the system and check for the issue.

This is to drain the static charge as the LED might be due to the static charge.

Best regards,

I need to be able to review work without my screen going blank after this short period of time.

Unplug AC adapter (remove from notebook).
Remove main battery
Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds (power drain)
Replace main battery
Replace AC adapter (plug into wall then notebook)

This should reset the BIOS to factory defaults.

Let us know how you get on.

I bought a refurbhsed Pavillion 17-G126DS.  I charged the notebook upon delivery.  The charging light on the computer by the AC adapter input was red when I first plugged it in, then turned white - assuming the battery is fully charged.  I unplugged the AC adapter and turned the computer on.  It worked fine for about an hour.  Then, the computer turned off.  Nothing.  No light on the power on button, nothing.  I plugged the AC adapter on, thinking the battery was old, tried to run the laptop off of AC power, and nothing happened.  I have run the diagnostic on the battery (PASSED) and the adapter (PASSED).  Just today, I tried it again.  The battery has been charging, the white light is on, turned on the computer, and, when plugging in the adapter, the computer turned off and the battery light shows red.  The computer will not turn on. Should I get a new  AC adapter? Thanks! Susan

Furthermore, I tried using the Novo button, and used several reccomended methods of pressing the power button with and without the battery and/or charger, I don't know whats wrong with my laptop! Hello, this is my second post on this website; and I hope I'm posting in the correct category.

Here's the problem I'm having and I hope someone can help.

I've just repaired Windows XP and its now booting up great!, however, the battery icon (in the bottom left) has a symbol, the icon showing is a "plug" as if my laptop is plugged in and it never shows how much battery life I have, weather my laptop is plugged in or not. I know my battery isn't failing or is damaged because I checked it with another hard drive that has windows XP (and with Dell Diagnostics) and the battery icon shows up normally (i.e. showing me how much battery life I have left).

I've been reading up on this and I think Windows XP's "Power Manager" thinks or act as if I'm on a Desktop when I"m on a laptop. Please Help! lol

Hey like many others I'm having some issues with my FLEX 3-1580. Issue: The battery originally would not charge above 15%, now it will not charge above 14%. The battery light near the power button is on, and the charger works (tested with DMM). Sometimes I get a constant on and off between the computer detecting the power cord. This makes the screen flash back and forth in brightness going from plugged in to unplugged (This is remedied by disabling Microsoft AC Adapter in Device Manager, meaning it then stays "plugged in", still doesn't charge). If the battery is not plugged into the laptop it will start on AC Adapter after many attempts of 2 second boot/stop/boot/stop. Attempts: I have checked the voltages from the power cable internally to where it plugs into the board. The top two connectors get the 21V. The CMOS battery is at 3V. I reapplied thermal paste. I reset all connections. Looked for component burn marks but couldn't see any. I know other laptops have had issues with the MOSFETS but I could not find any MOSFET on the motherboard. Ran registry fixer with CCleaner. Updated all the drivers. Flashed newest BIOS In the end I don't know if its a software problem and something seriously got messed up by a virus in my registry or somthing.. Or if there is something on the motherboard that is bad.

I guess it's a loose battery. Is this common in this model? Edit 3: It's not a power issue. whenever a certain area right under the ventillation opennings below is pressed the laptop goes off. My 3ys old Lenovo G550 has stopped accepting power from the power jack. It's been fluffy for a while and has needed massaging to work, but now it's game over. It's doesn't with/without the battery. Been surfing around and partly concluded that it's a weak point in this design. Was on the Lenovo support today, and it will be too expensive to let them work the problem. Also learned that the power jack comes as a pigtail that can be purchased, but the laptop needs a total tear-apart to exchange the cable. Have not been able to find instructions/videos showing the needed tricks. Anyone in here that can help, or has experience with the same issue?

Sorry to hear this as I own a G550. My first thought after receiving and plugging power cord into it first time " what a cheesy weak and wimpy feel it had" - I've been waiting for it to crater ever since. Frankly surprised it has lasted this long. However, when it does, I'll not hesitate to tear that sucker apart to attempt a fix.

Good luck on getting it working. If you do find a maintenance manual, please do share.

Hopefully someone here can help solve my issue, because I'm practically at my wit's end with it. I recently ran Lenovo's Updater program and it installed a few new things on my Laptop... I don't remember all of them, but I know one was a BIOS update, a Firmware update (can't remember specifically for what though), as well as a few programs I was missing on my computer (like Lenovo Power Management, just to name one).  It's something I hadn't ran for a good year, so I'm sure everything was using an older version! In any case, it seems after I did that, many of the games on my computer started playing worse.  Long story short, after checking out a few programs to monitor what my computer's doing (CPU-Z, and even Intel's Extreme Tuning Utility), I noticed that my Laptop's suddenly only using a portion of what it can do. For example, the core speed should be able to go up to 2.6ghz - 3.3ghz... but strangely, it's staying at a solid 1.20ghz the whole time. No matter if I run any graphic-intensive games or do anything else that might need some extra power, it stays exactly at that number. Here's the weird thing though.  If I unplug my Laptop and let it run off the battery?  It shoots straight up to the 2.6ghz-3.3ghz, as it's supposed to.  As soon as I plug it in again, it drops right back down to 1.20ghz and many of my games run like crap again. I've tried looking up solutions online, but I've found nothing that helps. I've tri... Read more

I just completed a fresh install of Windows 7 on my Dell XPS 17. For some reason, when the computer is on battery power and is idle, the screen will flicker. It will also flash at random other times... Only when on battery power (so far).

As I mentioned, I just completed a fresh install of windows 7 after reformatting my drive because of virus issues. A:Solved: Screen Flashes when on battery power, also issue with drivers

You should check your power settings at first and change them from what they are as a first step to troubleshooting. For example, if you computer goes to power saver automatically then turn it to high performance temporarily to see if the problem continues or turn it to power saver if it's on high performance (all while it's on battery of course).

If the issue is resolved by those steps then you should check out your drivers, or there is not enough current being provided by your battery for your GPU and you may need a new battery, especially if the issue is occurring when you are on high performance. A local computer store can check if that's the best option for you if you don't want to pay for a new battery right away as it may not be the issue entirely.

In terms of the drivers, you should first make sure your GPU drivers are working properly, following that check your other drivers and ensure that all the ones you are using are working properly and are up-to-date. Use the integrated Dell tool, or check the Dell website for your model for driver updates, ensure you've downloaded all the ones for your respective newly installed OS.

I have my lenovo x230 laptop set to sleep when I close the lid. When I close the lid the "sleep" icon on the back of the screen lights up. But the batter will not last through the night on sleep mode. Within five hours or so, the battery is completely drained and I have to plug in and boot up the system. I've never seen such poor batter performance during sleep mode on any other laptop I've ever owned.  Another thread in this forum blames the USB port that allows you to charge mobile phones/etc. during low-power states and recommends disabling the "always power on" option fo this USB port in the Bios settings. I've done so, be it doesn't seem to have helped. At least my laptop still will not make it through the night in sleep mode.  At this point, it seems my ownly option is to use sleep mode only when the laptop is plugged in and hibernation mode when on batter power, which is disappointing. I've never had to worry about this in the past with other laptops.  Perhaps/probably related is the fact that the lenovo ThinkVantage Power Manager (v. 7.16) hangs at the splash screen when I try to open it, so I've been trying to manage the power through the windows control panel power settings.

Hi.  I need some help with my lenovo g50-30 laptop.  The issue was, that  on the power socket a + and a gnd wire broke off, so it would not charge the battery.  I took the laptop appart and resoldered the broken wires back in place, and now the laptop is dead. No led lights no nothing.  When i was taking it appart, neither the power cord, nor the battery was connected. I checked voltage with a multimeter, and the power socket is now ok, because 20v do come to the motherboard.  Also i checked continuity on the ribbon cable, from the power button, all seams fine.   Any suggestions what might be wrong, or what i have done wrong? Thanks

Now the laptop DELL 9400 is saying I cannot defrag because the battery is too low. But I dont use the battery at all. I always use the ac adapter cord.
Is there a setting to address this issue, or is this a hardware problem?

A:Using AC power but laptop shows using battery power

Turn off the laptop, remove the battery and then start up again (with the AC power attached of course!). Do you still get the problem? Or does the laptop not turn on at all?

Hi. Im new on this forum, but I have a problem with my Inspiron 1545 laptop from Dell pre-loaded Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (although I did re-install several times with OEM OS restore disc). Money is tight for us now, so my AC power jack on the side of my laptop (or the end which connects to the jack) is damaged. I don't know what it is or how serious it is. Once for a while we had to protect the cord from slipping out using duct tape. The only thing I really know is that the coded white rim on that end of the cord, a very small part of it is chipped. And my battery needs replaced, do I need to still fork over an expensive sum for a brand new one?

A:Broken AC power jack, no battery power, help

Hi CSean and welcome to SF
As I understand it, it's not the Laptop-side of the connection that's broken right?
In that case you might find this link helpful:

Amazon.com: Replacement Plug for Dell Inspiron 1525 1526 1545 Laptop Ac Adapter: Computers & Accessories
Granted those aftermarket replacements are not necessarily in the same quality as the original parts.
You often trade off quality for price.
These seem to be original parts (for 3-6x the price as it seems):

Hi!I recently had to wipe my system and reinstall windows 10 on my Thinkpad L450. After the reinstall of windows, I had lost all of my Lenovo programs. Including the Lenovo Power Optimized power plan, which I really enjoyed using. Is there any way that I can get that power plan back?So far, I've tried to reinstall the Lenovo settings app, but it hasn't brought the power plan.I'm really hoping for an answer because the power plan gave me about 3 more hours of usage than the standard widnows power saver plan. Thank you in advance!Kind Regards,Jes

Hi, I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 510-15IKB that has developed some issues.  I took it apart to replace a faulty fan module, and put it back together and started having issues with video to the display not working.  Took it apart again to reseat all cables and look at the display cable and its connection to the mainboard.  All looked fine... and the notebook started fine and I had the display working again.  Then after a power recycle lost the display again, so took the notebook apart again, and found that if I removed the main power to the mainboard and reconnected it I could get the display to come back, but only until I recycled the power to the computer again, then it was gone.  Decided to just live with the notebook display not working and just use an external display via the HDMI connector, which worked fine for a few days... then the notebook just shut off.  Now it will not power back up... the AC adapter is good, verified via multimeter, I have tired to power up the notebook with the battery disconnected, no-go, with it connected, no-go, I do not get a charge or power indicator at all anymore.  I think the notebook should power up with the internal battery disconnected, yes?  It does not.  I looked in the Lenovo maintenance manual, and these symptoms point to a bad mainboard.  I can't believe that it could be bad on such a new notebook.  The fan going bad after less than a year I can live with, but loosing the main...
