I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I got it for free, at a trash-cleanup thing, and it had XP on it.
I immediately noticed the rouge anti-virus program "Spyware guard 2008" on it.
No matter what I do, I can't remove it.
I've deletes the registry keys, and the files in program files, but they come back.
I tried running superantispyware, Malwarebytes, and Spybot: S&D, however None of them will even start up.
The only solution I see is... installing Linux maybe?

Also, I'm rather new here, how do I get a signature on my posts?

Thanks, -Michael M.

RAM: 2815 MbClick to expand...

3GB of RAM would be 3072MB, video is using 256MB (1MB unaccounted for)
You need to increase the RAM to 4GB. Even though a 32 bit version of Windows can only use about 3.5MB, you will notice the increse.
I've made sure all our Windows 7 computers are running 4GB. I've talked a friend into buying more RAM so two of his slow computers would be peppier. He has noticed the difference.

As far as Java, MS discontinued java with Windows 2000. You should not have MS JVM on a windows 7 computer.

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Please move hijackthis.exe into a permanent folder.

To create a permanent folder click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar click on File, New, Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder.
Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here.
Install ewido.
During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
Launch ewido
It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
On the left side of the main screen click update
Click on Start and let it update.
DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.
Click here for info on how to boot to safe mode if you don't already know how.
Now copy these instructions to notepad and save them to your desktop. You will need them to refer to in safe mode.
Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:
Run Ewido:
Click on scanner
Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
During the scan it will prompt you to remove files, click OK
When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
Save the report to your desktop
Reboot to normal mode.

Post a new HijackThis log and the log from Ewido.

Your UEFI/BIOS (version A13) dates from 2009.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.Please don't use CCleaner while we're troubleshooting.  It'll delete some of the reports/files that we use. There is a driver named uroogb.sys (in C:\Windows\System32\drivers) that isn't found elsewhere in the system.Could you please have a look at it's properties and see if there's any information on it that we don't have?I also searched Google for it and there's no record of a driver by that name there. This is suspicious and you should perform an antimalware scan with another antivirus to ensure that you're not infected. If infected, I'd suggest posting over in the Am I Infected forum:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/103/am-i-infected-what-do-i-do/Please read the pinned topics at the top of the forum for instructions on how to post there.  Please update these older drivers. Hello Midas, the icon changes to inform you that a cd/dvd has been inserted. I don't think it can be disabled. Why would you want to change it? you don't have to look at while your music or movie is playing.

Is there anyway to make my laptop faster? I'm not sure what's slowing it down but we really have no huge files on it.

Hi, I brought a new laptop a few months ago and recieved it pre-set up despite asking them not to. When I got it home I discovered that the laptop was incredible noisy, it sounds like the fan is going constantly despite me not having anything open, then turns into a constant clicking noise. I returned it the next day as it wouldnt stop, and again asked for the replacement not to be pre-set up, only for them to give me another one that was. Unfortunately this makes exactly the same noise after a few months of using it, and I was wondering 1) what is it and can I stop it? 2) What are my rights about returning it as it is not damaged, just loud? I ask this because the noise makes it incredibly dificult to study for uni. Thanks for your help

Dell Latitude w/ Windows XP, 25% free space. Most time it is extremly slow (like today), while other times it moves along at a respectable speed. The only thing that seems to help is running Lavasoft (just ran and did a complete restart) but not always. It took me about 1.5 hrs to login to techguy, print the Welcome Guide (oh that was painful), get registered, etc. then do a quick search in the forums b-4 posting this question.

I believe there are a lot of programs/applications running in the background that could be removed but I do not know what is required to stay running. Am I barking up the wrong tree or will this speed up things?

The laptop sets beside a Jurasik (sp?) Park model (Windows 98) desktop that won't die and just keeps plugging away at top speed. I need the same from my laptop.

Any suggestions appreciated (and please be specific on actions to perform as I am an end user, not a tech head). Thanks...

Hello, I am having some rather serious issues with my computer and my friend advised me to post a thread here.

Last night I was playing some Il-2 multiplay with my friends, and then I suddenly got a "C+++ Windows Visual library error" then an immediate black screen and a freeze. So I hard rebooted my system and was greated by a pixelated windows splash screen with several lines of dots running up and down the screen at random intervals. After trying to reboot several times to no avail, I entered BIOS and restored my computer to factory settings and then it booted back into regular XP. Keep in mind that this entire time there where lines and dots randomly placed on the screen. Thinking I had fixed the problem I went and played some Bf1942 where I got another graphics error and then a physical memory dump. After a quick restart I again tryed Il-2, only to have graphics artifacts and glitches, I exited the game and then my computer gave me a nice black screen. At this point I left it until today and went to bed. Earlier this afternoon I booted up to the same pixelated windows screen, and then a black screen where I couldnt load Xp. I took the video in and out and it seemed to fix the problem...for the moment. Being the absolute genious I am, I figured to test Il-2 again, only to have the same C+++ error and then a black screen/crash. However this time neither restoring settings or pulling the card in and out would work. I managed to get it to load into s... Read more

A:Extremly odd windows issue

My guess is that the Video Card is fried, and it may have corrupted some other data on the way out. Best thing to do is borrow a Video Card and see if that solves your Video problems, but don't be suprised if certain apps (and maybe even Windows itself) fail to fuction properly.

Another angle is to install your Video Card in another computer and see if it works or not. Between these two, you should have a pretty good idea of what you are dealing with.

And installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and i am experiancing very very poor performance, it strugles sometimes to even have IE open let alone a game which i am deeply into. On my old pc was a OEM version of XP SP2 home and it could run fine lots of processes, games and music all at once but vista jsut doesnt seem right.

Ive turned off all the aero glass and such and set the system to performance over looking pritty because i dont care really what it looks like as along as i can use my programes.

My wife has a pc just about the same spec's as yours but for her videocard is a 7600 and she's running DDR2 800mhz (2gig) and vista32bit
It runs very smooth.

the only thing I can think of is have you updated all the drivers for the motherboard?
is there any other hardware installed?

can you run the Performance Information tool to see what your base score is

you can get to it by right clicking on "My Computer" then click on Windows Experience Index (there should be a number beside it) then click on Update my score

Hi
Thanks firstly for taking the time to read my issue.

My PC (originally running Windows 7) was running really slow, it would sometimes take 5 minuets to action a mouse click (IE close an app, click a button etc) I did what I could with my Norton AV but after 5 days I couldn't get to the bottom of this issue. I eventually ran CCleaner, didn't help, ran windows update. This started with over 100 updates as I had turned live update off. Got down to one file which wouldn't update.

Last update I decided to try and update to Windows10. Hoping it could repair the issue.

I have also tried running the MS Malicious Software Removal Tool but because if the go slow issue it does not get to complete a scan before stalling & eventual reluctant reboot. It will perform a quick scan without crashing but that only finds one infected file (No idea what the file is from MRT) Even when running a full scan, before it locks up it says it has found 3 infected files so I figure a full scan is in order.

One last note: I called Norton help line & after remote operating my PC for a few minutes the guy informed me I had a rundll.exe file that was causing the issue. He said it was disabling a lot of things on my PC. Unfortunately the same guy then went on to try and skin me of AU$400 to help fix the problem. Sorry but I don't have $400. I have a sick PC and hope fading fast.

I have learnt several things from this. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Hi there:
3 days ago when I was trying to download a Tv show episode from http://thepiratebay.org/ (I won't do it again in a long time :() with uTorrent my computer froze, I restarted and when I oppened uTorrent my computer froze again. Then I scanned my drive for malware and norton found a backdoor thing and a tracing cookie; it deleted both. Then my internet speed went from 2Mbps to .2Kbps (ridiculous). And said that I had no connection (wireless). I reset de modem, reinstalled drivers etc. but nothing worked. I am writing this on my ubuntu partition. I even formatted the vista partition with windows 7 RC 64bit and the problem was solved, then, when I moved my files from the windows.old folder. my internet speed went to .2Kbps again! (on vista). I did ipconfig/release,renew and it said it cannot proceed because the specified file could not be found? that was weird.

Those programs do not work in my OS; Anyways the problem solved by itself.
Thanks though

Hi, My lap top Compaq Presario B1900 is running extremly slow. At the moment I am unable to even open files. A few months ago I noticed it was registering that the hard drive was almost full, which I found odd as I couldnt locate any extremly large files. I havent used it much and now it takes hours to get it going. Is there and easy way to search for files stored that are over a certain size? I have managed to delete files on the desktop hoping I might get a bit of speed back but as at right now, still waiting for my documents folder to open at 30min and counting. Please help me.

A:Help Laptop running EXTREMLY slow

Start here please
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353/

Clean boot the machine using the manual method and GO ONLY as far as STEP 3 pls. Do not proceed to step 4.

The go to this link below from MIcrosoft and in Control Panel add and remove programs, uninstall any programs you KNOW beyond doubt that you do not use.
Having done that run a disk cleanup.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/maintain/improveperf.mspx

Having done that go My computer, right click the hard drive , click properties and post the info re the capacity and free space.

On your reply please include details of your anti-virus installed.

If the computer is running with a noticeable improvement to allow you to doanload and run items then please do as below.

Please click http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/hijackthis/HijackThis.exe to download and install HijackThis.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile from the Main Menu.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next reply.

DO NOT CLICK FIX or any other buttons or tabs pls. Hi-Jack is an extremely powerful tool and can with just the wrong mouse clicks cause havoc.

Now please run HiJack again, but this time click on Main Menu, then click on Open Misc Tools section, then click on Open Uninstall Manager, then click on Save List. and do the same as above please to copy and paste that result to your reply.

Please note I wish you to paste them as the actual open report, not as a file which I then... Read more

I've recently updated to Vista Ultimate(About 1 month ago) and I hadn't installed any games for it. I put 3DMark05 on this machine for the heck of it as I was going to use it on an older system.

I ran it but never completed as it was so terribly slow. I was getting between 6-13 fps which is ridiculous. I thought ok..what ever. So I install Assassins Creed, not to my amazement it was so laggy, I could barely move. Even in options, the mouse took forever to get to the other side of the screen. So now I'm wondering if it's my Graphics card or Vista Ultimate.

Specs:

AMD Athlon 64x2 5200+ 2.7(OC To 3Ghz)
4Gb RAM
Nvidia 7300Gt 256mb graphics Card
Samsung SyncMaster 2032gw
Seagate 160gb SATA HD
400w psu
BioStar T7025-M2 MotherBoard

I've updated all the drivers as far as I can tell, so only thing I can think of is Graphics Card or Ultimate?

Anything I need to add?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Terry901 !

Looks like a memory leak in the broadcom wireless network manager. See whether there's an update for your wireless drivers on the manufacturer's website. Go to Dell drivers support page, enter your service tag and install the latest wireless network drivers.

Sometimes the manufacturer replaces the default "wireless zero configuration" interface of windows XP by its own and sometimes that third party program creates issues. If there's no update on the manufacturer's website you can uninstall the third party program and install the wireless driver alone : download and extract the drivers in some folder on the drive (if it's a .exe file ask us for the proper instructions), uninstall the program related to your wireless controller using add/remove programs, restart and when the new hardware is detected point the installer manually to the location of the proper drivers.
