I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I am trying to troubleshoot a problem with my computer on boot up. It occasionally gives me a BSOD with the following,

0x000000C5 (0xE1602000, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x805448E9)

If I look in event viewer I see an error,

The following boot-start ..........failed to load

Intelide
Now if I look in device manager>show hidden devices> I see several that have a yellow exclamation mark;

intelide
parport
partmgr
serial
Anyone know how to solve these errors?

I cannot uninstall or roll back these devices because they are the hidden ones (or at least I'm not sure how).

Hello,
Recently my computer crashed and came up with a error saying : DPT_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION.
I restarted it after it said it would restart, because i left it for an hour and nothing happened. When  I was on my windows 8 computer I checked the drivers in device manager and found a yellow exclamation mark on a unknown device. I searched it online and said the driver was not installed propably. This was probably caused after reinstalling windows 8 on my computer : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/579755/cortana-and-start-menu-broken/

Dell Vostro 1400, Core2Duo. Installed Windows 7 64 bit a year and a half ago. For those not familiar, the Vostro is not entirely compatible with 64 bit, so the drivers are a little hit and miss.

Computer runs slow sometimes, has since the install. I don't think I've ever seen the yellow triangles before, but I may have never looked at the device manager ... the computer is a secondary machine in the house.

My question is, do these indicate a performance problem or can I ignore them and assume the computer is working as best it can?

I have a feeling that this is simply a case of some registry settings which need adding/modifying/deleting but exactly which ones and what values I do not know.
I suspect that the registry settings affected are under the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

The machine is a Dell Optiplex GX260. The device is a Hitachi-LG Data Storage CD-ROM, Model GCR-8481B. The OS is Windows XP SP1.

Hi, I'm having a lot of problems with my computer recently (programs hang, IE browser won't open, access denied when trying to install or update programs, shut down and startup slow, etc..). I've noticed that in the Device Manager under "other devices" there are 4 yellow "?". They are next to: .NET runtime optimization service v2.0.50727_x86; Alerter; ASP.NET state service; Remote desktop help session manager. When my computer starts up I have been getting the "Found New Hardware" window about the ASP.NET state session but the "wizard" is never able to find a driver for it. I've tried looking for the driver but I'm at a total loss.

I greatly appreciate any help someone may have for me to get my computer back to working like it should. Thank you, GJ

I'm trying to fix an hp pavillion dv6704nr laptop running windows vista home premium. It has the little red x on the speaker in the lower right hand corner. The owner said it has been there for some months. I have tried downloading the current audio drivers for the computer but every time I try to install the driver, I get an error that says the device couldn't be found.

The first time i restarted the computer, after the driver installation failed, the audio came back and worked fine, until I had to restart the computer. Now I keep getting the same error and nothing i have found so far online has helped.

There are no yellow triangles in the device manager and the device list isn't showing the category for "sound, video and gaming etc." at all.

Please help. I did a search but the other threads didn't solve this problem for me.
Thanks in advance.

If you install one and the system doesn't work properly...please uninstall it before trying the next one.Installing the wrong one won't do anything harmful to your system...it just won't do any good to leave it installed.Louis

I have a Toshiba laptop, model L505-ES5018. I had Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed on here, but decided to reformat my hard drive using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. After the reformat was finished, I ran Windows Update and it found several items to download and install for me. I noticed that it also found optional items to download and install for me, so after all the important updates installed, I ran the optional updates. After all of this installed, I checked Device Manager to see if there were any errors and I found nothing. I assumed everything was fine. I decided to check Devices and Printers and under my laptop icon, there was a yellow icon with an exclamation point on it. I decided to run the troubleshooting option when I right-clicked the icon....it gave me a solution to download a Toshiba password utility program, so I did that and nothing happened, even after restart. Same icon appeared. When I clicked on the icon a second time, I noticed that the model of my computer at the bottom of this window, changed from L505 to TIAS. I have no idea what this is. I decided to do another reformat on my hard drive. This time, I ignored the optional updates. I checked Devices and Printers again, the same icon appeared but the model of my computer said L505, like it should. There is something in the optional updates that is changing this. i have searched for driver software using the update service but it cant find no update.

i have looked for the name of the manufacturer but found nothing.

i then disabled the unknown device, and sent a picture to my mobile phone. which confirmed that it was not the belkin bluetooth device. so i uninstalled the unknown device, restarted the computer. then when i logged in, it said that it had found a new device and wanted me to find the CD that came with it..

i would be greatful if any1 could help me on this..

How about the make/model of the machine and/or motherboard. Also, what SPECIFICALLY do you see in error in Device Manager. Please provide a screen shot.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to TSG, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

That means Windows did not pick it up. Did the CD-ROM come with a drivers disk? If so, see if you can reinstall or update the driver. If not remove it, restart, and see if XP will pick it up. Unfortunately it means that device is not working properly. I know that's not particularly helpful, but there can be various reason, ranging from very minor to fairly serious for that exclamation mark. First try removing the device. Highlight the cdrom, click on remove, click on OK when it asks if you really want to remove it. Restart the computer and let it find and install your cdrom. Make note of any error messages that come up. Maybe that'll fix it.

Hello, recently we purchased a laptop and gave our desktop to my boyfriend's parents. I installed the operating system with the cd that came with the computer. It is a Medion, I would guess 5 years old. It does have Windows XP. I am not sure what other info you may need to help me.
They had cable internet hooked up yesterday, but it will not connect. The technician plugged his laptop into the Medion tower and showed Roger that the internet is working. The tech opened the device manager and showed him a bunch of yellow question marks, and said it won't work until they are fixed, but he didn't know how. I went over and tried to figure it out - the following had yellow ? marks
* SM BUS CONTROLLER
*PCI DEVICE
*PCI SIMPLE COMMUNICATIONS CONTROLLER
*ETHERNET CONTROLLER
*VIDEO CONTROLLER
*VIDEO CONTROLLER (VGA COMPATIBLE)
I tried to install the hardware, but it was asking me for a Cd or floppy disk. I am seriously lost, and would love to fix the problem for them so they can spare the expense of a trip to the Geek Squad people. Is this my fault? Did I do something wrong during installation? I did google these problems, the advice I found was to download updates onto their computer...but I cannot connect to the internet in order to download the updates...
Please help! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!

Hi!

I have two USB audio devices that I cannot seem to properly install drivers for.
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 & KORG MicroKONTROL

I am in communication with both product tech support teams but so far they have not offered a successful solution. As the same issue is occurring with multiple devices I thought it might be an OS issue.
I run Win 7 Home Premium x64

The problem is as follows:

The product drivers install correctly without error. However, instead of showing up in the Device Manager in either USB Controllers or Sound Controllers they both show in Other Devices with a yellow exclamation mark.
I have tried the following fix from this site (USB Driver - General Fix for Problems) and this actually enabled me to access a portable HDD that wasn't working, but it didn't fix the issue for my 2 audio devices.
I have also tried right clicking on the devices in Other Devices, selecting Driver Update. I then find the correct drivers listed but when I hit install I get the following error message on both:
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. One of the installers for this device cannot perform the installation at this time."

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Could it be the two devices are competing with each other and the driver installer gets confused? Details on the devices and the needs to use two of the same type probably would be helpful.

After rebooting a couple of times, but before installing any drivers, I found that the Device Manager did not present any yellow question marks, as it use to do present in my past installations. Looks like Win 10 recognize all my hardware, apparently even the Nvidia control panel is installed. Why is that? This means I don't have to install the drivers I download from the HP site before deleting the previous Win 10 installation? Thank you.

FOr as long as I've had this computer my usb ports haven't been working, and I just now decided to try to do something about it.
When I plug in a device, nothing happens, it doesn't detect it, no baloon pops up, nothing although when I plug in my ipod it turns on, but doesn't charge.

In the device manager I have
intel(r) 82801fb/fbm usb universal host controller 2658
intel(r) 82801fb/fbm usb universal host controller 2659
intel(r) 82801fb/fbm usb universal host controller 265A
intel(r) 82801fb/fbm usb universal host controller 265B
intel(r) 82801fb/fbm usb2 universal host controller 265C

All of these have the yellow exclamation point, and none of my usb ports work.

I've searched google but couldn't find anything relevant, and I searched on thsi forum, looked through a few pages of results but wasn't gonna be here all night sifting through threads.

Sorry if this question has been asked many times already, but my relatives are starting to get on my case about them not being to use the printer or webcam or their digital cams.

Thanks in advance for any help

You need to first install the motherboard drivers, that's likely the cause of the problem. If that doesn't do it, try uninstalling ALL the devices under USB Controllers and rebooting to let Windows install them again.

Yellow ? In device manager, internet will not work
Hello, recently we purchased a laptop and gave our desktop to my boyfriend's parents.
I went over and tried to figure it out - the following had yellow ? marks
* SM BUS CONTROLLER

I should add that we had the computer wiped by geek squad before we gave it to them, hence the reason I had to install the operating system

The error codes you get are common when the device driver is not installed correctly or cannot initiate.

It would help to know what the exact hardware configuration is that you are attempting.

The Asus P5K-Deluxe motherboard has 2 LAN controllers. Are you trying to get them both to work?

Or are you adding a second PCI card to the machine? If so, what is the brand and model number?

I few days ago I installed a 3 port 1394 PCI card on my mobo, along with a 4 port USB card. Windows acknowledged the hardware, but could or would not load any drivers for the 1394 card. In device manager I kept getting the "unknown device" yellow question mark. After numerous attempts to find drivers for the 1394 card, I finally removed it and sent it back for a refund. The USB card works fine.

I still have the "unknown device" showing up in device manager. Is there anyway to remove this, and if so, where do I look?

What happens if you uninstall the device from Device Manager and restart?

Does the Unknown Device reappear.

Post the Hardware id for the Unknown Device from Device Manager.

The computer is HP Pavilion Entertainment DV6-3122SA and since converting to W10 then back to W7 (Graphics drivers wouldn't install in W10) I have the problem shown in the title and usb ports don't work. I have tried downloading new drivers from HP, AMD and Windows Update which apparently install but the problem remains.

I had Windows Vista Basic installed in my laptop and was really slow and would crash a lot. I then decided to install Windows XP Pro SP3 on it instead. The install was a complete success. But now I cannot connect to the internet, and when I checked Device manager, under the "Other devices" their are 8 yellow question marks.

Audio Device in High Definition Audio Bus
Ethernet Controller
Ethernet Controller
Modem Device in High Definiton Audio Bus
SM Bus Controller

Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

Since i cannot connect to the internet on that pc, I have no idea what to do.

You need to install/update the motherboard drivers for XP for your computer to function properly - check make and model number and go to the manufacturer's website to download the correct XP drivers.
