InstallShield doesn't work, none of the usual fixes work

Q: InstallShield doesn't work, none of the usual fixes work

So whenever a program uses InstallShield to install or uninstall a program, it boots up, and the bar fills up preparing to run the Wizard, and right when it fills, an error message pops up: "An error occurred while launching the setup. The specified module could not be found," and then it quits.

This occurs anytime I try to install or uninstall anything that uses InstallShield. I've tried everything at the InstallShield troubleshooting site, including deleting a file in the registry (the problem key was there but deleting it didn't solve the problem), making sure I had admin privilidges, and emptying out the Temp folder. I can't reinstall InstallShield because it (ironically) requires InstallShield to install.

The one problem that I can think of would be that I just got back from college. At college, I logged onto a network to use the computer. Could this have something to do with it? I've tried logging onto the computer itself as the Admin, but the problem still occurs. This whole thing really sucks because the comp is pretty much useless not being able to install or uninstall anything.

Thanks for any help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: InstallShield doesn't work, none of the usual fixes work

Depending on what version of InstallShield you have here is a site that shows some of it's program errors >

Have you tried this site > http://consumer.installshield.com/

InstallShield uses the Windows Installer Service. It could be that Windows Installer Service has somehow become corrupted.
Check this site out > http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108201

As a last resort you might consider reinstalling your Windows Operating System on top of itself to repair and replace the corrupted or missing files associated with InstallShield and Windows Installer Service.

Just for your information, InstallShield is the oldest installer program company. However there is another that is completely free “Inno Setup” which you may have seen when installing some programs. Here’s their site > http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php

I have a Dell XPS 8300 desktop, Windows 7/64, 12gb RAM. Boot drive is a 500GB SSD, and there's a 2TB SATA drive for data. I'm a photographer, so I need lots of data storage.

I just purchased a Toshiba MD04ACA500 5TB to use as a data drive (NOT boot).

My XPS 8300 can see the drive but insists it contains only 500GB of storage, not 5TB. I've done the following:
Run Diskpart from a DOS window;
Run Diskmgmt.msc;
Run a third party partition tool; and
I've also gone through Windows KB 2581408 procedure for adding a large drive.
No matter what I do, the drive is seen as only 560 GB.

Can I get this drive to work with Windows 7 and my Dell system? If so, how? If not, what's the cause?

Any help is much appreciated.

What's happening is that one of my XP Pro/SP3 (32-bit) boxes is experiencing a commonly-reported problem wherein the XP boot process runs successfully but then goes into an infinite login/logoff loop (NOT a reboot loop). What happens is that the small Windows XP logo box comes up, says "Loading your personal settings", then it changes the text at the bottom to read "Logging off", whereupon the whole loop starts over again! (along with all the Microsoft music)

There are a great many other identical tech support requests out there, including some here on this board (see, for example: XP log on log off loop), but none of the suggested solutions in there or by Microsoft or by anyone else I can find actually fixes my problem!

Here are some facts along with the things I've already tried:

(1): There is no malware on the system (confirmed with several tools).

(2): The suggested Microsoft Answers solution involving userinit.exe and the userinit HKLM registry key (see the post by pjn33 at: Windows XP... logon stuck in loop), doesn't work for me (i.e., no change).

(3): A variation of (2) above is to change the userinit key to point to "C:\Windows\Explorer.exe", but that doesn't work either.

(4): There's no evidence of a corrupted registry -- that system worked fine until this loop started happening (which curiously began after I fixed a "disk full" (actually just a full partition) problem on a completely unrelated disk dri... Read more

I have the Windows Recovery Virus. I have followed several different instructions on how to fix it but it is not working.

When I run the TDSS killer, no infections are found.
When I run the Malwarebytes Anti Malware program the only thing that comes up is the PUM.Hijack.startmenu, which doesn't seem to be the problem.

I have tried everything in both normal mode and safe mode but nothing is locating the actual virus.

Any help would be appreciated. I am running Windows 7.

Hi! I'm not sure this is the right section, but since a Virus started it all, I figured it is.

Short story:
-got Virus, got rid of it (probably)
-used ccleaner to "clean" registry, which screwed it up (probably)
-now get blackscreen after login, explorer.exe doesn't start and crashes 5 seconds after starting it from task manager
-same in safe mode
-everything else seems to work
-tried most fixes suggested by googling the problem (win startup repair detects no problem, shell of winlogon reg key is "explorer.exe", sfc /scannow tells me nothing is wrong.

Complete story:
I have Win 7 home premimum 64 bit with all updates. It was preinstalled on a custom built latop from a merchant in Germany

The other day, I got a trojan virus from foolishly running an executable. Its attempt to connect to the internet was blocked by my firewall (Comodo) and Microsoft Security Essentials identified and deleted the virus.. I checked online whether any additional removal steps are necessary for that trojan and according to microsoft, that is not the case.

Still, I decided to do what I did years ago with Xp in such situations: Download a battery of scanning/removal tools to be sure.

I started with ccleaner and unfortunately did a registry cleaning, doing a back up for the first run. But then I rescanned and kept fixing reg issues till none where left. I did not create backups for those additional runs of ccleaner.

EDIT: Never mind, I tried to revert everything back to the original InstallShield again with renaming and it appears to be working correctly now.

I tried installing the Sims on my laptop but ran into a lot of problems. At one point it actually uninstalled itself when trying to fix it, but then wouldn't let me reinstall because "It was already installed".

I went to EA for troubleshooting and eventually found myself at this page:

And tried this:
Reinstall the installation InstallShield software.

1. Click the Start button on the Windows Taskbar.
2. Select Run.
3. Type C:\Program Files\Common Files into the text box and click OK.
4. Right-click the InstallShield folder, and select Rename.
5. Change the name to InstallShieldOld.
6. Start the game installation again to reinstall the InstallShield components with the newest version.

And now, whenever I try to install anything, I get this:
"Error extracting support files:

The system cannot find the path specified."

I don't even care about The Sims anymore... what can I do to fix this?

Ok so Earlier today I was did a fresh install of windows xp, and I was trying to install my onboard video drivers/network card drivers that are bundled together in a nForce package or whatever, and it would go all the way to the screen where it would say "Preparing installation instalshield wizard will guide you through the rest of the installation"or somethin to that effect, and the bar would just zoom across, then the box would disappear and nothing would happen, I tried over and over and nothing worked, So I finally gave up and went and hunted down one of my friends and got another xp disc from him and installed it, and it seemed to work...until just now when i was trying to install a completely DIFFERENT graphics cards drivers and it did the same thing, ive formatted 3 times today and still having this problem, but at least I can get on the internet I guess, if anyone has any idea on what the heck is going on please let me know I need to install those drivers so I can play WoW!!!, oh and on a side note i'm pretty sure this is only happening with graphics card drivers :\

On a Win7 ultimate system (svc pack 1), when I try to open any file in the my documents folder I get an error message that says that this operation "needs elevation".

So I picked one particular file that I couldn't open and I looked at the owner in the security tab. Indeed the owner was not set to me. It was set to "Administrator". Although I'm logged in as an administrator, my login has my name in it, so this was not me. (I don't see any other user accounts however). So anyway I go ahead and change the owner to me. If I cancel and go back in thru properties I see that this worked. (i.e. I am now listed as the owner of this file). However windows still will not allow me to open the file (same error messages). I have the permissions set to "Everyone", and all the permissions are checked. (I do this to allow full file sharing, even with non Windows 7 computers). I've tried playing with various permissions, but everything I see is checked. Why is windows still so insistant that I shouldn't open this file?

By the way, I tried copying the file to another drive. Windows allows that, but again I can't open it. Then I deleted this copy, which windows did without complaint. I'm dumbfounded. Windows thinks it's perfectly acceptable for me to have rights to delete a file that I have no right to even look at.

By the way, I have run Malwarebytes and Superantispyware. Both found and fixed a few problems, but still this needs elevation problem remains.

A:Needs elevation (the usual fix doesn't work)

I thought I should add that I just tried changing my "User Account Control" to the lowest notch (never notify). However I still get the dreaded "Needs elevation" warning just the same.

I also verifed that the files in question are still good. I can copy these files to another computer and they open just fine there.

I hope there is a solution short of reloading the operating system, since that will be painful and quite time consuming.

Awhile back, I installed an alternative task manager (on the advice of a computer magazine) and set it up to replace the normal Windows Task Manager. Fine, but I didn't like the alternative. So I uninstalled it. Now, if I hit ctrl-alt-del, I don't get anything but a DOS window that closes quickly and automatically.

So how can I make ctrl-alt-del do what it normally does??

I cannot get Windows Media Encoder 9 to work at all at home, but I have no problems with it at work, so I know I'm not trying to do something with it that it can't handle.

At home, every time I try to convert either an AVI or a VOB to WMV, either using the wizard or the custom settings, it lets me get through it all and then, when it starts trying to encode, it throws up the message:
"Windows Media Encoder has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. ..."

It never gives me any more information than this, just crashes and closes. I've tried repairing it through the control panel, as well as completely uninstalling it and reinstalling it, but it hasn't helped.

At home I'm running Windows XP Media Center. At work, where I've never had it crash, I'm running Windows XP Professional. Is there something in Media Center that causes it to crash? Is there any patch I can download or thing I can do to get it to work on my home computer?

Thanks for your help.

In the past two days i have had to reformat my hard drive twice, the first time i did it was because i had an Unmountable_Boot_Volume, the 2nd time i had to reformat was because after installing windows and updating my system i could not use installshield to update my DirectX and even Installshield itself.

I have managed to install the game SWAT 4 fine without Installshield stopping but other games will not work and other programs (Winamp and DirectX in particular) will not run, it simply either hangs and changes to "Not Responding" or once i click the file it will run installshield but will not install anything.

This has also prevented me from installing Windows Internet Explorer 7 (i waited 45 minutes for the installation to happen).

I have used Google to look for a remedy but so far i have found nothing, even questions that are exactly like mine have been answered with "update the Installshield driver", something i cant do due to Installshield not working.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

I'm having difficulty figuring out this persistent malware. I think it's likely that there are multiple issues.

I'm running Windows Vista.

The malware started off with "google redirect" symptoms, and disabling my Symantec software

Shortly following, I could no longer access the web. However, the malware itself would create an internet explorer popup every 5-10 minutes (not my default browser) that would go to "search sites" (none that I recognized....) and search for lewd topics. Running the taskmanager would show multiple instances of iexplore.exe running on my machine (one for each popup). The popups would have to be eliminated one by one using the task manager.

Trying to run a system restore, I discovered all restore points had been deleted.

I installed AVG antivirus and got it to run once which seemed to help the problem. However, upon restart, all issues were back and I could no longer run avg. Windows defender constantly pops up that a new trojan is attacking my machine.

At this point, I unplugged my internet connection and started using another machine. I had left my problematic computer alone for about a month.

Upon turning it on last night, each time I logged on, it gave me a warning that "Windows had encountered a critical error and will restart in one minute" and would restart. I tried running cmd (in that one minute) to intercept it, but the task manager would freeze if I tried to run it from there and explorer wo... Read more

I pulled the image off the cd and unRARed the setup.exe and tested it... it was fine so I copied that over, and placed it in a folder with the rest of the game, overwriting the "corrupt" setup.exe. Even this did not work so I am thinking it may be a problem with compatibility and XP? The other system is Vista, but this game is 4 years old i think, and therefore should be MADE for xp... I got a powered USB hub and hooked it up to a USB3.0 port on my laptop. Windows 8.0 core says it "did not recognize the device" in ther words it wont work. Device manager displays 1 unknown device instance outside the USB-controllers parent branch. I tried the following;

-Under device manager, uninstall all USB drivers one by one then reboot and, connect the device again.... Same
-Tried the other USB-port on my laptop.... Same.
-used the automatic conflict detect feature, it just says it detected 1 device is not detected, then nothing... Same
It says thhe following: error usb\vid_0000&pid_0002\5&2f4793fc&0&1

Then I found this:

Got the fix in the artcile by e-mail from Microsoft but not sure if I should use it and... if you would read the registry modifications n the discription, I got a bit lost there.

My final question, if I should download the Rollup pckage from Microsoft which has more fixes for Win8.0. incluing this one, should this rollup also automatically change my registry to the correct settings needed for this fix?

I have Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.
Recently certain some EXE's I open started generating the following error:
Runtime Error 429
AcitveX component can't create the object.
All EXE's with this issue have worked before. I believe this happened when I installed some microsoft updates.

Well, I have been searching google, microsoft, and every forum I can find for days. I have tried every fix I have found and none work.

I believe I narrowed down my problem to one file: scrrun.dll
Now matter what I do I cannot register it! I have replaced it multiple times and re-installed visual basic runtime 6.0 sp6. I downloaded some program that checks files for permissions, and I have full permissions. I don't know what to do. I get the following error:
dllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\system32\scrrun.dll failed.
Return code was: 0x80004005
On some site it talked about dll entries in the registry. DON'T WORRY, I DIDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING YET! I searched for scrrun.dll with 'find'. It brought me to TWO entries next to eachother. They were slightly different, yet both refer to scrrun.dll. Upon examination of other entries, each dll only had one. Is this my problem? Below are screenshots.

[ARRR! Its says I can't because they link to another site!!]

A:Another 429 error, but other fixes don't work

Please, I am see many posts above me solved, but no one has even replied to mine!

-Tried deleting both reg. keys mentioned above
-Tried different versions of the dll
-Tried registering the same dll under a different name
-Spent a few more hours endlessly searching the internet

All resulted in failure.
Please guys, I am desperate!

I want to rage on Windows 10 Homegroup because of all the hours I have spent. The homegroup is detected, but after I enter the password the homegroup is no longer detected. When I run the homegroup trouble shooting it says there is a network issue. When I run the network trouble shooting it says there is a gateway issue, but "fixed".

What I have tried:

both computers are connected to router via eithernet cable (still setup)
turning off the computers and booting one up to start a new homegroup; start up second and attempt to connect to homegroup
go into ethernet adapter properties to make sure IPv6 is ticked (it is)
went into the admin panel of my router to make sure IPv6 was enabled (it is)
went into services and made sure the following services were setup as "automatic": Peer Network Grouping, Peer Networking Identity Manager, HomeGroup Listener, and HomeGroup Provider (still setup this way)
used regedit and went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters to add "DisabledComponents REG_DWORD Value=0" (still setup this way)
Tried disabling antivirus (could it still be a firewall issue?)

I have been going bonkers

hello everyone, my Radeon HD 4870 idles at 78C and from what ive read online, its too hot. I've also read the common solution is to create a profile and then edit the onboard fan that way

the fix is:
if you make a profile in catalyst after turning on Overdrive( make sure clock and memory settings are correct). You can then go to the file "C:\Users\Bretware(username)\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE \Bretw are. XML. the xml file will have the same name as the catalyst profile you saved. right click and hit edit.

<Feature name="FanSpeedAlgorithm_0">
<Property name="FanSpeedAlgorithm" value="Manual" />
<Feature name="FanSpeedRPMTarget_0">
<Property name="Want" value="0" />
<Feature name="FanSpeedPercentTarget_0">
<Property name="Want" value="65" />

Change the value to "manual" and Want value to "65"

Save the file then reload your profile in catalyst.

the problem is that I cannot find the profile i saved even with the above header. I tried doing a search on my computer for the profile but no success. anyone have any ideas?

my OS is Vista 64bit. Thank you all for your help!

A:4870 too hot: fixes will not work

I'm not sure how a profile will work.

Your case cooling can effect the heat of your video card. the 4870 should be Ejecting hot air out the rear of the case - but if the inside of your case is already WARM, it could cause a problem. Try to remove the cover and blow a small fan inside the case and see if it makes a difference.

Also, the cooling system on the card could be defective (not installed correctly).

I installed IE7 and all went well. Could connect to internet and surf fine. But the install "broke" Windows XP Help and Support. When I tried to access via Start, Help & Support, the window did not open up. Yet Task Manager showed it running! Tried to open it via Run, HelpCtr.exe, but again the window would not open and Task Manager showed 2 copies running! I manually ended both in TM. Then I uninstalled IE7 via Add/Remove to revert to IE6 (which went OK) and Help & Support window opened up fine. So the file is not corrupt & the problem is definitely related to IE7. Broadband Reports forums says IE7 is known to sometimes break Help & Support.

I'd really like to try to install IE7 again, but I will only do so if there is a way to get the Help and Support feature to work (I do a lot of knowledgebase searches). Anybody know of a workaround or fix for this bug ? Or would I have to wait until MS gets around to offering a fix through Windows Updates?

There is a Kelly's Korner "Restore Help and Support" fix a member recommended to another user, but would those fixes work for IE7? Or were they written so they would only work with IE6?

A:Will Kelly's Korner Fixes Work With Ie7?

Hi everyone.

I am trying to install Windows 7 on my PC, having successfully done so without issue on my laptop.

I have tried to burn the ISO file onto various DVD's, all of which have failed. This is not helped by my DVD drive in my PC being dated, IDE. However, I burn the ISO image to DVD's using my laptop using IMGBurn at 4x speed (or lower) and the DVD always registers in my PC.

I get various errors depending on the DVD, all burned using the same ISO.

Sometimes it starts to install, only to be met with the "files missing" error, which I presume is a bad burn.

Sometimes I get the "driver missing" message. I have followed the advice, physically unplugging all drives except the HDD I wish to install Windows to and the DVD drive. I also tried changing the SATA setting to "AHCI" as recommended. This doesn't seem to be the main issue however, as I say, I often get as far as the "Expanding Files" stage before an error occurs.

To bypass the dodgy drive and dodgy DVD burning stage, I have tried to make a bootable USB drive. I firstly used Universal USB Installer, which worked fine. However, despite booting up the initial set-up page, it said no bootable drive could be found, odd given that it got that far.

I tried using the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool, however this just says "We were unable to copy your files".

Having tried every available option I have read on this very helpful forum, I f... Read more

My (AX3400) Acer aspire computer doesn't have any sound. I tried enable/disable sound in my hardware manager and it doesn't do anything. I tried reinstalling my drivers automatically and it said I already had the latest drivers installed. Then I tried installing my drivers manually but I still have no sound. Then lastly I tried uninstalling the sound and rebooting my computer to let it automatically reinstall my drivers but my installation setup says the drivers were not successfully installed. My monitor (Compaq WF1907) has built in speakers and is compatible with windows 7. And yes the drivers I'm reinstalling are (apparently) compatible with windows 7, though I'm starting to think the driver description is lying to me. I'd like to try and avoid a system restore as an option. -Thanks

I work on computers as a hobby, so I've had plenty of experience using the windows disk in the repair console, and straight out repair install, along with linux and ERD programs, the problem I'm having I have /never/ seen before.

Laptop freezes at loading bar when trying to start windows normally. When trying to use ERD or windows disk, both freeze before completely loading, specificly with the windows disk it continually freezes at the point where it is 'Starting Windows'

Strangest part to all of this is, safe mode works perfectly fine, networking and non-networking. In safe mode I have went back to the last working restore point to no avail, used msconfig to turn Everything off, went through programs (with updates listed) and uninstalled anything installed up to 1 month before the problem manifested itself. The only thing I can think of is either a CPU or MOBO problem, but I'm really hoping that isn't the case as their cheap and I won't make any money if they decide to just trash the laptop, plus I'll look like an *****... Everytime I tell someone its a CPU or MOBO problem I feel as if they just believe I can't fix it, and honestly I'm hoping thats the case this time as not only is this a paying customer, but a friend.

I'm at my wits end with this and I told my mothers friend I would have it done within 3 days (obviously a mistake) Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys

Hi. I've read lots and used lots from this forum - thanks! - but first time posting here. I've searched, but haven't found a similar issue to this.

My issue:

I was using Aero with no problem. I had customized it a little, but only basic things through the Personalize section of Control Panel. I turned off transparency, and it worked perfectly.

I downloaded some themes from different sources (deviantart, etc). They were full themes that changed dlls. I tried them for a while.

Recently I switched back to my normal slightly-customized Aero theme. Everything from my theme is back and working correctly.... except opaque window tops.

Now when using my customized aero-theme, I can't turn off the transparency of the top bar of open windows. It affects all applications: Explorer, Firefox, Skype, etc...

Here's a snapshot of how it looks:
In this example above, the Control Panel is on top, but through it you can see Firefox... and through Firefox, you can see the desktop. It's a mess to figure out where one window ends and another beings, so clicking, dragging, sizing, even reading it are all a hassle.

I want to disable that so the tops of the windows are solid, but I can't make it solid and still keep aero peek.

Steps I've tried:
- in Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization, I unchecked "enable transparency."

- in Performance Options, I turned off everything that could be causing it. Here's a shot of my current settings:
- in th... Read more

Did you change the .dll your self or did the theme do it?
What did you use to patch the system files to use custom themes?
Post a link to one of the themes that changed the .dll.

Do Option 2 in this tutorial it will not harm any data or programs you have installed. If you used universal theme patcher this will disable it and you will need to re-patch SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

All of a sudden my cd/dvd drive has vanished. The door will not open when I press the button. It doesn't show up on Device Manager and it is not in BIOS either. I did not download anything that should have caused this. I tried the fixes I found on various help pages - the Doug Knox xp_cd-dvd_fix.zip did not work. I also followed the Microsoft instructions to go into the registry and delete the upper and lower filters but when I got there, there were no filters so that didn't help either. I have rebooted numerous times, both hard and soft. I have also in desperation tried pulling the plug. Nothing has worked. I suppose it could be the drive itself, but I doubt it because it has been lightly used and it should still show up on the device mgr. I am hoping someone has another suggestion. Thanks.

I have tried going into my (recently) working copy of XP and copying its HAL DLL over the "bad" one. When I tried to use the Recovery Console, my Windows installation was not even found on the drive. The command I tried was "bootcfg /scan." I ran check disk with the "/r" flag, but the scan did not turn up anything. I tried this after taking out the other HDD with Windows XP installed, and connecting it to my SATA 0 slot so that it would be master. (I had not realized that it was loading as slave to the other HDD. I had them installed in an order that went against my intention in the case, and the ordering problem followed from that.)

HDD1 - Seagate Barracuda with Win XP (my main copy of XP)
HDD2 - some HDD I used to use with Win XP on it, that I fixed by accident
HDD3 - Seagate Barracuda used for storage

I am not sure, but I think that one I have created a partition on both Seagate Barracuda drives. Otherwise, I have two partitions on HDD1. It has been a while since I made the partitions. Currently, my MOBO has them all running as IDE drives, though I thought that the SB drives were running as SATA, previously. This PC is a new build, which I will post in my profile or wherever the PC specs go.

Another thing I tried was to turn on the AHCI in the BIOS, and although I was able to get to the Windows XP loading screen, a BSOD flashed and my machine restarted soon afterward.

Could this error be caused by not having the same HDD configurat... Read more

I have an Acer Power FH system with a Memorex CD/DVD optical drive.
Was using Windows XP and just did a clean install of 7 on a new drive.

The drive doesn't show up in my computer, or in device manager. It was available in XP and shows in BIOS. It showed briefly the first time I booted into windows 7, but when I double clicked it, it disappeared and never came back.

Maybe relevant: - it's a PATA drive and I'm using an adapter to connect it to one of the SATA slots on the motherboard. Dunno if it matters but it's set as a slave on channel 3, with the win7 boot drive being the master on channel 3. My other drives, both PATA and SATA, are showing up ok.

Fixes I've googled that don't work:

? Removing upperlimit and lowerlimit registry entries at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

? Disabling driver signing verification under the windows 7 boot options

? Manually disabling via command line with bcdedit -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

? Downloading windows updates, including
Download details: Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB974332)

? Showing hidden devices in device manager, scanning for new hardware, useless windows troubleshooter.

Am I hosed or what? Time to buy a new drive? Maybe rearranging things so the drive is connected via IDE cable?
