Q: ThinkCentre M92p Tiny - Failed BIOS update though Lenovo ThinkVantage - please help

Might someone be able to please assist? Ran the BIOS update to version 9SKT75A through the ThinkVantage System Update and the computer now fails to bring up a BIOS screen or load windows. Looks like the BIOS update failed even though did not interrupt power supply or boot cycle, per instructions. Looking for the original POST and BIOS update file for M92p Tiny to run the boot block recoery as per Lenovo help article here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=HT077504. However, the link within the article to download the file for 'ThinkCentre M92/p, M92p Tiny, M82, Edge 92, E31' is broken. See here: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkcentre_bios/9sj942usa.iso Does any one have the originial BIOS update file for the boot block procedure for this computer that would be willing to share? To Lenovo: can you please fix the following link on your help site and make the original POST and BIOS update file available again? Thank you, M

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Problem solved toay,You need to open your machine. Find the cmos clear jumpers.Move the little cup from positions 1-2 to 2-3. Unplug Hard Disk. Close the machine. Insert a portable USB DVD to a usb port (have a copy of the new bios on the cd) and turn on your machine. It will boot from USB DVD drive and it will load the new bios. Machine will shut down after the new bios update. Open agin the machine, plug the Hard Disk and put back the jumpers to 1-2 position. Unplug USB DVD and it will boot from Hard Disk. That's all. IN OTHER WORDS: Bios update can be done if first you change the jumpers on motherboard.

Hey everyone,  I sincerely hope there is someone around who can help me with this problem, as clicking "contact lenovo support" does not provide any actual contact method with Lenovo support personnel   So the story:I bought one of the desktops that were being offered for sale at my company. These guys came off duty in January, and had warranty and support till March of this year, but they took their sweet time wiping them, so I only received mine now. When I went to install windows, I went into the bios to set the usb stick boot priority, and found the bios screen was in shambles. It was working, and all text was legible, but it looked like a text file opened with the wrong format in an ancient version of Word or something. This was somewhat of a concern, but the machine seemed to be working fine, and windows 7 64 bit installed without a hitch (aside from needing a days worth of updates and a ton of lenovo drivers). So after the first wave of windows updates, I got the service bridge installed, and had Lenovo System Update take care of all drivers and suggested updates. All succeeded, except for the BIOS flashing! The flashing window came up, started doing it's thing, then quit before I could read any errors. I believe the error was Child Process error 16. No matter what I did, it did not work.At that point it was late in the PM, so I just gave up and let windows do all the remaining updates instead of messing more with it.Day 2, Windows fully up... Hi, I just purchased an M92p Tiny for playing around a little bit with it, because I like the form factor.I got the pretty maxed out spec machine (i5 CPU, 8gb RAM, I put in my 500gb Samsung SSD, 2 x Display Ports, 1 VGA, I added a brand new mPCIe WiFi/Bluetooth card, ...).I installed Windows 10 Pro and XUbuntu as dualboot via UEFI and it works fine.By the way I also upgraded the machine with the latest BIOS firmware from the Lenovo support page. What bothers me:- I configured in BIOS a slower Lenvo splashscreen, but still it passes by pretty fast <2-3 seconds I believe -- but ok, I can live with that, but would like to see a bit more relevant and interesting information than just a splashscreen- I can ONLY see the boot splashscreen and F1 BIOS setup and F12 boot device prompt via VGA port (I played around with the configuration in BIOS auto/IGP without any effects - and multi-monitor option doesn't exist as stated in some other posts)- Once boot procedure is done, and the OS is switching graphics mode (Win10 or Xubuntu login screen in Xorg) then it switches to DisplayPort. How can I enforce the usage of the Display Port all the time from the beginning? I don't want to use the VGA port at all, but I want to have the option to see the F12 boot device prompt and maybe go to the BIOS setup via DisplayPort from time to time. Hope you guys can help me, thanks in advance!!!

Hi,yesterday I updated new BIOS 9SKT99A to ThinkCentre M92p (motherboard is7xm rev. 1.0). BIOS is taken from the official website of Lenovo. The update was made using the program "Flash UEFI BIOS update (Flash from operating system version)" - 9sjy99usa.exe from Windows 7 Pro x64.Now after BIOS update is PC constant reboot. The last picture before rebooting: FW status recovery error. This message hangs 0.5 seconds on the built-in video card, or 2-3 seconds on the external video card (in my case, the NVIDIA GT 730). Only thing I can do is access BIOS setting or choose boot device thru F12 or F1.I did:F9 (reset to default) and CMOS reset - no change, Boot mode UEFI or LEGACY - no change, Boot device (USB/DVD of W7, W8, W10, network boot) - no change, Disconnecting all boot devices - nochange.I need help.Thanks,Dmitriy.

A:Lenovo ThinkCentre M92p. After updating the BIOS from 06/30/2017, the system restarts constantly.

Burn a CD with the BIOS ISO, and follow the procedure for recovering from a failed BIOS update in the HMM.   If unsuccessful, do the same with the previous version of BIOS, which is at the very bottom of your system's BIOS download page.

Edit:  try the older version first, if that works, then do a regular CD ISO update to the latest.

I tried updating the BIOS on my M92p tiny and now I don't see the bios screen or any output. I have tried the BIOS recovery steps in the manual:- The system doesn't beep after a few minutes with a USB BIOS recovery key (tested and usb is bootable on another pc)- The system turns on but doesn't show any output or errors- I burned a BIOS CD but when plugging the CD drive into the internal sata + sata power it doesn't get powered- I tried the CD drive while being powered from another pc and then plugging the sata in - didn't do anything- The system will ramp up the fan for a split second and then the fan slows down and the system stays on- Sometimes the system will reboot a few times and then go off completely. - Taking the RAM out gives the RAM error beep code- The CPU gets hot so it must be powered at least?- I left the CMOS battery out overnight I have a vga cable plugged in, it's possible that it's outputting on the displayport so I'm not seeing anything but I find that very unlikely? Anything I've missed or could try? If not, any idea how much a replacement motherboard is?  Cheers

Lenovo Thinkcentre m92p sff (3227) makes Beep sound when powered on since I updated the bios to the version: 9sjw99usa.exe.Also since I replaced the stock lenovo Fans with Noctua fans it makes a second beep (so 2 beep sounds total and there is a fan error in the bios event log), when I connect back the stock fans it makes only 1 beep again. I dont know if the noctua fans would cause the same behaviour on the older bios version since I replaced the fans after the bios update , but I know that with the old bios version there wasnt any beep on startup with the stock fans.I read somewhere that lenovos can give errors in the bios event log with other fans when their rpms are slower then the original fans rpm were, that doesnt explain the single beep on start up with the stock fans though.I wasnt able to find any older bioses for my model to experiment with them on the lenovo support page only the newest bios is offered for download and I wasnt able to find a way to turn of the self test / beep post on start in the bios. My thinkcentre won't boot, all I get is an error "FW status recovery" on black screen. The problem started after I unpluged it and move to a new location.I found out the onboard battery (CR2032) was dead, and replaced it with a new one, but the problem still persist. I tried resetting the CMOS using the jumpers.I now installed the latest BIOS software (using CD) and still the same issue.I can access the BIOS setup using F1, but nothing can get me past the boot operation (I can confirm latest BIOS was installed). Any idea on what is corrupt and need recovery?I tried resetting BIOS to default values.  Are there any settings on the BIOS that I can try? Is there a way to update the firmware using a USB/CD boot media??  I can't boot into windows to use the Intel Firmware tool. It's a ThinkCentre M92p type 3238. Thanks for any assistance.

I have, or had a laptop purchased 9 months ago, therefore under warranty. Yesterday the ThinkVantage System Update recommended a BIOS update. After the traditional recommendations about what should not shut down the computer, the laptop is reset and started with the update.

During execution, displayed on a screen command, a message "ERROR XXXX. Press any key to continue." After press the key the laptop was freezedy was completely blocked. After an hour without seeing response and no sign of life, I decided to turn it off to confirm the disaster. The laptop was dead.

The laptop began to beep and would not start. Before the panic generated by the situation, I searched the forums where I found several cases that refer to the same problem and the insinuation that makes LENOVO about the customer's responsibility to avoid recognizing the warranty.

I was not looking for a BIOS update, it was recommended by ThinkVantage System Update, the software executed it and damage the equipment.

Besides being a damage caused by the ThinkVantage System Update, the situation gets worse when the answer given by support insinuates that the customer turn off the computer, so it is a CID (Customer Induced Damage) and therefore the guarantee does not cover it. I do not understand how LENOVO may imply that the responsibility of the customer. Really disastrous.

In conclusion, if you are not needing to make a BIOS update, it is preferable to omit the BIOS update messages given to ThinkVantage System... Read more

Hi I updated my Lenovo ThinkCentre m92p tiny 3237-A1G to the BIOS version 9SKT59A.I use an OCZ SSD with GRUB2 and Linux/Win7 dual boot (GPT/UEFI) without any problem. After the BIOS update there was SecureBoot enabled and I couldn't obviously boot GRUB2.Then I disabled SecureBoot and changed the Boot order, but when I try to include the SSD with x it disappears in the list of the excluded boot devices but don't appear in the included devices. Now I am only able to boot via USB stick where a grub2 is also installed. I am pretty sure this is a BIOS bug!Anyone else can confirm that or solved such a probem? Cheersmijenix

Just wondering if, and how, I can troubleshoot an oddity I have. We run a number of this model Lenovo and decided they would be better with 8Gb of RAM, up from the original 4Gb. All went smoothly until one PC emitted a musical alert on booting after the upgrade, which stopped when I removed the new RAM. I checked I had the new RAM in the correct slot, blue just like the original stick. I tried the suspect stick in the next box and it is fine. Where do I start looking to find out what is going on? Regards, Granville.

A:Thinkcentre m92p memory upgrade failed

I would repace the original 4GB with upgrade memory, test to see if it boots, and then put original memory into upgrade slot and test, if it fails, that slot is probably bad.   You could use it in the other bank, won't be as fast, but you'll have 8GB.

After any memory upgrade or change, I suggest running a couple of passes of MemTest86, the free version, to ensure all is well.

I let it run for many hours without any progress and finally pulled the plug. After starting the PC agin, I get No 2 beeps and then a long pause repeatedly. The keyboard is not active and I cant do anything except Boot-Block Recovery. WHen I do Boot-Block Recovery, I get video and the recovery completes successfully everytime, but after the reboot the problem remains. I still get the 2 beeps and no video. I tried the recovery with 3 diffreet Bios versions, the current one from December 2018 , the one from July 2018 and the original Bios which was from 2016.  I tried both with boot cd and boot USB, the result is always the same. I proceeded exactly as described in the HMM, I also did reset the cmos, and removed and installed all connected devices. I also tried removing RAM, but nothing helps. Is my Lenovo dead? How can a premium PC brick like that with a bios update?

A:Lenovo ThinkCentre M92p 2988-E2U [Video card upgra...

The GTX 750 Ti could work with a SFF M92p.   Upgrade to the latest BIOS beforehand, CD ISO method is most reliable.   Check that there aren't any taller heatsinks on the motherboard that could interfere with the graphics card (refer to photos of the card.)

Since your system is older, to ensure the necessary airflow, clean the front air intake and fan with vacuum and canned compressed air, jam the fan with a cable tie or similar so it can't spin and over-speed.  Same for CPU fan and heat sink, and vac the intake and rear exhaust of the power supply.

I can confirm that this MSI brand low-profile  GTX 750 Ti 2GB  card works perfectly in my M93p SFF machine without upgrading the PSU:   MSI N750-Ti-2GD5TLP

Measuring the power draw running Prime95 (CPU benchmark) , FurMark (GPU benchmark) , charging mobile phone via USB and copying large files at the same time , it stays below 190W.   Have been running this for several hours. I have also been playing Fallout 4 (FullHD, ultra textures, 60 FPS) for 100 hours without any problems.   As the case is quite compact, I was worried about the temperature but it stays below 80C for the GPU at full power over extended periods of time (about 25C ambient temp in the room).

Installation is ok. Just mount the low profile bracket and move the PCIe 1x WiFi card (if you have one) into another slot.  Preferably le... Read more

Hello Everyone,  I had a quick question here. In 2016, I purchased a 2016 Lenovo ThinkCentre M92p. It is Windows 7 Professional, and has 8GB of Ram. Intel CPU up to 3.20 GHz. I love it to be honest,  but have just now received word that Windows 7 will no longer be supported after January of 2020. I was wondering if it will be possible for me to upgrade this system to a Windows 10 ? I do not want to buy a new computer, and do not want to try and continue using Windows 7 after it is no longer supported. Can anyone tell me if this is possible ? Thanks.

Hello, the weirdest thing has happened. I've read all kinds of posts of the nVidia GT 1030 card being compatible with fairly recent ThinkCentres, but after 2 hours of exhausting attempts I still could not start my M92P SFF desktop with a GT 1030. A few years back the excruciatingly slow stock HDD was replaced with an Intel 535 Series 480 GB SSD, and the first thing I saw after installing the GT 1030 video card was the message 'Operating system not found'. The SSD disappeared from BIOS. Removed the GT 1030 and everything is fine. Checked that the SSDs BIOS was of the latest version, updated the PC's BIOS, found out that it was booting in legacy non-UEFI mode. Converted the system drive to GPT, switched to UEFI booting and everything worked without the video card. I was sure the problem was UEFI-related, because even without the GT 1030, prior to switching to GPT, when attempting boot in UEFI mode, I was getting exactly the same message 'No operating system found', the BIOS did non detect the SSD. Having done all this, I plug in the GT 1030 and bam! Same crap. The BIOS does not see the SSD! But why? More this time, not only it did not detect the now GPT SSD, but a couple of seconds after powering up the M92P would not turn on at all, no matter how many times I pressed/for how long held the power button. It was making some sound from the speaker though, as if it was trying to power up, but couldn't, it was not an error beep. So I had to remove the GT 1030 once again an... Read more

I have been using a Display Port to HDMI Cable with my M92p for a long time now to connect to my 2 Philips Monitors. I now wanted to connect my M93p the same way and I'm now struggling to do so. I just cant get a signal out through Display Port no matter what I do neither in Bios nor on Windows. And on the PC side, my Monitors are not recognized at all. As my setup works with the M92p, the cable and Monitor are OK I guess. Why does M93p fail? Apart from VGA, the Display Ports are the only other Option. I read that M92p has DIsplay Port Version 1.1. and M93p Version 1.2: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre-A-E-M-S-Series/M93P-Displayport-1-1-or-1-2/td-p/2174499 But I also read that Cable wise this schouldn't make any difference. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#Overview WHats the problem here? WHy is Display Port Output not working on M93p while it does work on M92p?

I have the M92p Tiny and would like to get my temps down. My idle temps hang around 50c and just some average tasks bring that up to 80c quickly.First, what is the weird socket this has? The LGA1150 cooler I have doesn't fit this one - the screw holes are in different spots. Are there any available aftermarket CPU cooler options out there for the M92p? I don't mind keeping the case open with a huge cooler. I see the M93p has a proper heatsink, anyone knows how cross compatible these machines are? Can I swap the fan and heatsink from a M93p onto my M92p?

Hi everyone. We are hoping of getting a confirmation from fellow experts here in this Lenovo Community regarding the installation of an M.2 SSD into the Lenovo M720q Tiny dekstop. The model we have in mind is the (Intel« SSD 660p Series - 512GB, M.2 80mm PCIe 3.0 x4, 3D2, QLC). I do notice from the Tech Specs section of the M720q model that it does have a M.2 SSD Slots. We just wish we can get a confirmation to implement such upgrade. From a similar topic here (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre-A-E-M-S-Series/LENOVO-M720q-tiny-M-2-SSD-slot/m-p/4254601#M...), I will say the answer is a yes?Thank you so much.

Hi we use with great pleasure the Lenovo m93p as server in a our environment. They would like a charm. recently we faced a situtation and e wanted the servers to turn on at a specific time.  We went into BIOS and set the time to turn on the PVC.  We expected that the PC could be turned on manually. It will not turn on at all.  We took off the CMOS battery to see if it would reset the BIOS settings: Nothing ! The the PC will not turn on... Also no Lenovo screen , nothing  We must also say that we increased the video memory to 1024 MB AND set up the start time. These settings were saved since then the PC would not turn on.... Would appreciate anything that could help in having the pC turn on or resetting the BIOS to default ... Thanks in advance We need to perform somthing alittle more complex .. Will ask after solving this pesky problem Zeprez

A:Lenovo Thinkcentre m93p Tiny won't turn on

I had exactly this problem. After replacing the hard drive, the M93p Tiny would not power on when the power button was pressed. No LED came on and the fan did not spin up. I tried all sorts of things but nothing worked. Finally I took out the CMOS battery for a while and then put it back in again. That did the trick and the computer started. Strangely enough, the BIOS was NOT reset, my custom settings and BIOS password were preserved (!). The computer now works normally again... Jiri.

According to the spec sheet, available here, the M910x Tiny is configurable with dual M.2 SSDs in RAID 0/1 with a caveat: "RAID preset only available via special bid model" What is the special bid model? Where is it on the website?

I was updating the BIOS for my M910x Tiny via system update, the program just started then suddenly some system notification popped up and my mouse wouldn't move, as the BIOS upgrade window under Windows 10 also seemed frozen. I know it was my fault that I didn't wait long enough but just pressed the power button to shut down the machine, so when I power it up again I can only hear repeatedly 2 short beeps and the system couldn't boot anymore. So is there any solution I can fix the BIOS? I've seen the Clear CMOS/Recovery jumper method on other model, but not sure what is the correct procedure on M910x yet. Thanks for any help!

Hello,I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W540 which is out of warranty.  While using the Lenovo System Update utility to update the BIOS, the BIOS update failed, and now my W540 will no longer boot.  Is there a way to restore the BIOS without replacing the system board? Is there a place where can I download the BIOS file (not only the upgrade utility)? Thank you!
