HP Probook 6550B Forgotton Bios Password

Q: HP Probook 6550B Forgotton Bios Password

Hello Everyone,

I have a HP Probook 6550B laptop that when it starts up it prompts you to login in. I do not remember my password or the security questions. It does ask for the Bios admin password but I have no idea what that is. I have tried to remove the laptop battery, and the small watch like battery under the keyboard for (30 Minutes), removed the havedrive, and still the same problem.

When I remove the battery and only plug in just the power cord it does tell me that the BIOS is invalid, but when it reboots it goes back to defaults and goes back to the user password screen.

I cannot get to the BIOS setup windows, change the boot device order, nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas how to work around this problem? Otherwise the laptop is useless if I cant get past this screen.

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

@peter006 Contact HP and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.htm??l When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request. Or download these files. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zu4kdgxm052l87d/AAAMi-k??fX4AVH8oTCbsOM4X9a?dl=0 Insert clean USB flash drive. Then run USB Image tool. Choose the flash drive then click on RESTORE. After restore remove flash drive. Insert flash drive into locked laptop and boot. ?If HDD is installed remove before booting.? At C:\OUTPUT   type CD..   ?Then hit enter? Type HPBR   ?Then hit enter? First thing is to save your settings. Select #3 re-program. Press ?S? to save system information. Type HPBR and hit enter. Select   ?FIRST RUN? Then select model. After reboot repeat same as above but this time SELECT ?SECOND RUN? REO I must inform you that these services are not endorsed by HP, and that HP is not responsible for any damage that may arise to your system by using these services. Please be aware that you do this at your own risk.

i upgraded my system from windows 7 to windows 10 and am having issues with my audio, i troubleshooted and it responded that am missing base system driver and PCI communications driver please what do i do

A:hp probook 6550b

Hi: Your notebook is not supported by HP for W8, W8.1 or W10. The missing devices have no bearing on why the audio is not working. You use the windows 7 drivers for the base system and pci simple comms controller devices. The base system device needs this driver. This package contains the Ricoh Media Card Reader Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The Ricoh Media Card Reader driver enables the integrated media card slot. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp46501-47000/sp46999.exe The PCI Simple Comms Controller needs this driver... This package provides the Intel Management Engine Components Driver and Interface. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59684.exe What is the problem with the audio?  No sound at all? First see if the W7 driver works for the audio too...install and restart the PC. This package contains the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver for the supported notebook/laptop models and operating systems.  ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48001-48500/sp48147.exe If that doesn't fix the sound, I have one other thing you can try.

Hi,
I recently got a used HP Probook 6550b. The idle (0-10% cpu use) temperature right now is between 68-72C and shuts down after less than 5 minutes when subjected to a stress test (105C). I tried everything I could think of to solve the overheating. I tried:

- Opening up the laptop to clear it from any dust (heatsink, fans, intake)
- Changing the thermal paste (the temperature dropped from 75-80 to 68-72 when idle but did very little with 100% cpu load))

I even tried drilling a couple of holes to improve the air intake

Nothing seems to help. Can anybody help me?

I'm running Windows 8.1 on a Core i5 520m 2.4 ghz with an Intel integrated graphics card.
Thanks.

A:Hp ProBook 6550B Laptop Help

We can't help you circumvent/bypass a password it's against the rules. It's likely we couldn't help anyways. Most newer systems have whats called a TPM chip and cannot be bypassed. Only HP can do that with special codes once they cross reference the serial numbers and UUID's of the laptop itself. So it is suggested to take it up with HP support. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/supportforums.html

I installed a new drive in my 6550b and decided to go to 7 pro 64 bit. No matter what I do I can not get it to boot from a 64 bit dvd. I tried Vista, 7, 7 ultimate and 8.1 all 64 bit flavor. However, I can boot from any 32 bit with no problem. XP and 7. So needless to say I can't install. What it does is boots from the dvd, run thru loading Windows files and then hangs at "starting Windows" you know, the screen right before it tell you to select a language.Like I said, I can take the 64 disk out, put the 32 in, and it goes right thruI have read about turning secure boot off, but my bios does not have that option (latest ver 60).Is there a trick? I know these machines came with 64 also.Thank youDavid

Hello.

I have HP probook 6550b laptop. The CPU Intel i5 M 520 @ 2.40 GHz overheats.

Situation year ago:
- Idle temp 35
- While watching youtube videos; temp 40 and no fan noise.

Situation now:
- Idle temp 42
- While watching youtube videos; temp 70-80 and the fan is really loud.

What have I tried so far:
- Get our schools IT guy check it, he said: "Yeah this ain't normal, lets send it to HP". Couple weeks went, and HP sent the laptop back with a note "There is nothing wrong with the laptop."
- Change the thermal paste, no effect
- Open up the laptop and clean all the the dust

It's impossible to play games or even browse websites, since the CPU overheats and fans sound like a tornado.
What should I do?
I will run tests, gather info, anything you want me to do in order to get this fixed.
Regards, Felisbellator

I have an HP Probook 6550b, i5 processor, 8 gigs ram, running win7 64b. A couple mornings ago, while using the computer, the touchpad and mouse keys (two pair, one below the keyboard and one below the touchpad) stopped working. Checked the settings in Control Panel, TP is activated. I reinstalled a fresh driver from HP with no luck. BIOS is reporting "No mouse found" on boot. The mouse still moves with the controller nipple in the middle of the keyboard. USB mouse works fine. Last night, all of a sudden, the touchpad and buttons started working again. I understand on some laptops the TP can be disabled by function keystroke or tapping the upper left corner of the pad but that is not an option on this model, at least as far as the user manual states. Ny question: is turning off the touchpad something I did and, if it happens again, how do I turn it back on?

Hello, Neither my windows, nor any apps (like Skype, e.g.) can detect my built-in webcam. Pre-history: I upgraded from win 7 to win 10, installed skype but found skype can't see my webcam. Then I looked in the device manager - there was no imaging devices at all. I then downloaded and installed the webcam driver (HP Webcam Software (International), SP52437) from HP website and hooray - the webcam started to work (skype could see it) and I could take images. The next day after win 10 update the webcam stopped working again. Itried to re-nstall the same driver (SP52437) but during installation it said "Setup has determined that your configuration does not support any of the included products" I found on the web that lots of people who upgraded to win 10 having issues with their built-in webcam not working. So I rolled back to win 7 but the camera isn't working again! In my control panel I do see Imaging devices and a driver 'USB2.0 UVC 1M HD WebCam' with a yellow exclamation mark, but when I try to update the driver the system fails to find a newer version and the exclamation mark remains. I also tried installing another generic driver for HP website - 'HP universal camera driver" (SP47460), but to no avail. I spent a week searching web for solution but couldn't find one that would work. Please help me to make my webcam work! Thank you very much!!!

Hi there.I have been having over heating issues with this laptop and had taken it apart to replace the thermal paste only to find it is thermal pads. I can use thermal paste on the cpu just fine but find that on the gpu there is no contact with the heatsink. So my question is what can I do?Also I do not have the original thermal pads as they got pretty dirty so I had thrown them away

A:hp probook 6550b thermal material problem

The way to handle that is to make your own thermal pads out of copper stock or old pennies. Copper sheet material you can pick up at a hobby shop or find older copper pennies and pound it out to the thickness needed to fit between the chip to be cooled and the heatsink. Obviously you will need to use thermal compound between the copper stock and the chip to be cooled. This method will also give superior cooling performance. This was a favorite hack back in the dv6000 days to cool the video chip properly.  This is a long video but gives the idea how to do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fawdUXUxKx4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O75WwZSetx4 If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hello everyone

It's not as bad as it sounds.

I can still get on to my computer and use it just fine. Here's the situation.

I bought a new computer about a month ago, and I set a password that must be entered to go beyond the lock screen. And while customizing the computer, doing things like downloading security updates, downloading third party programs, and other things like that, I told windows not to require this password.

I'm 95+ percent finished with the customizing now, and I'd like to start using a password again. But I've forgotten the password I was using when I turned the password requirement off. The password is still in the computer, but as instructed, the computer skips over it, or automatically enters it, because it's not required.

What I'd like to do is find the password (or hint) and reactive the lock screen password requirement.

Help!

My father has not used his computer in over a year as he has not had access to broadband. Now he has his broadband back but cant remember his login password for the computer this is the one that once accepted takes you to your icons screen. He expects me to have an answer to this and is getting grumpy with me cause I don't. I called Microsoft and they stated if it did not come up please go to account.live.com when he entered incorrect password they couldn't help is there anything that can be done that isn't too technical for me to understand.

Many thanks

Rubie

Max. There are no master password generators for ProBooks or EliteBooks and most business class laptops. You will need to contact HP. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0003 Or look at this link. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility I have a master external USB HDD with his programs that I have removed hundreds of passwords with Mazzif's help. Mazzif?s program will detect your UUID, Serial Number and model number then use that information to produce an .exe file to clear the password. If you find it to be to technical then. Or replace the BIOS chip.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Probook-4230s-4330s-4430s-4530s-4730s-5330m-5320m-5310m-Bios-Chip-No-Password-/251583731923?pt=US_Motherboard_Components&hash=item3a938f18d3 If you have good soldering skills order the BIOS chip. You will receive a picture of the chips location after purchase. REO I must inform you that these services are not endorsed by HP, and that HP is not responsible for any damage that may arise to your system by using these services. Please be aware that you do this at your own risk.

Hello, I am new on this forum. I own a HP G2 450 ProBook. I retrieved this laptop by a family member passing away. Since I updated the OS to Windows 10, I had evergoing touchpad problems and WIndows 10 deleted my Windows 8.1 rollback.  So I installed a fresh copy of Windows 8.1. Still having problems with my touchpad. I used HP Support Assist to update my drivers. I was missing a critical BIOS upgrade. I currently have an HP M74 motherboard, with version 1.05. For upgrading there is a password required for entering the BIOS. There is a 'user' part on the BIOS, with privileges of the first owner. This password I have for this account. But for changing settings on the BIOS, there is the administrator account. I need this one to upgrade the BIOS. What I already did:- used the standard bypass code: afxvh- Used another code: e9lo7vf5g9 - I have removed the RTC-Battery on the motherboard. - I have removed the RTC-battery for an hour, then assembled the HDD and RAM and pressed the Power on-Button. This was to empty all energy in the board. Then Installed the battery and all the other parts.  This all didn't work. Methods of 'Mizzaf' for bypassing the BIOS code, isn't suitable for my laptop.  WHo can help me reset the BIOS?

Hi, Unfortunately there are no 3rd party utilities that will work for this Model, so you will need to  Contact HP Business support - they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Regards, DP-K

Hi HP Support, I've recently been given a laptop to fix, the hard drive needs replacing, but I need to enter the BIOS and can't as the password is long forgotten. Is there any chance I can get a hand  resetting the password? Cheers! Toby

A:Unknown BIOS password on ProBook 430 G3

Hi, Unfortunately,  business machines such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models - they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial No. and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. If you Contact HP Business support they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Regards, DP-K
