Fingerprint reader not detected on new Thinkpad Yo...

Q: Fingerprint reader not detected on new Thinkpad Yo...

I ordered a brand new Thinkpad Yoga 260, eveything is fine and I love the machine, except for the fingerprint reader which is not detected and not working. It looks like a hardware problem with the fingerprint reader :I have never seen him it blinkingit doesn't show up on device manager (and I already checked for hidden devices : nothing)it is activated into the BIOSno trace of a fingerprint option on Windows settings under accounts / connexion options (not sure of the naming in english as my Windows is in french)no more luck when trying to install the latest Synaptics FP driver from Lenovo : a window opens, I click start and the window closes itself after 5 seconds, then nothing special is happening anymore. No error message, nothing. Is someone with a Thinkpad Yoga 260 having the same troubles or could be of any help ? Thanks !

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi

I don't have that Thinkpad model, but for what I remember in some other model the Fingerprint reader was internally connected to an USB port.

You can check some programs like HWInfo and check where is the fingerprint reader plugged to see if Windows recognize there is a deviced plugged on it. It can also be interesting for you to grab the hardwareID to know the manufacturer of it.

Which Windows version are you using?
There is also some fingerprint drivers on the Yoga 260 support site for Win10 and Win7.
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...

Maybe you can also give it a try.

Hello,

I have a HP DV6700t laptop with Vista SP1. Recently, the fingerprint reader stopped working. Upon start-up it says that the fingerprint reader is not detected. I believe this may be related to an issue with a new driver downloaded from Windows Update called AuthenTec Inc. AES2501A. However, I have tried rolling it back to previous driver and still had the same problem. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

A:Fingerprint Reader not detected

Go to this link and select your version of Vista (regular or 64 bit), then download the driver AND the software for the fingerprint reader.

Uninstall the driver and software from the Control Panel...Programs applet, then install the stuff you just downloaded. Reboot and see if it works.

Hi everyone and thanks for any help or advice in advance.

I have an HP elitebook 8440p laptop, windows 7 professional.

I took it apart and replaced the motherboard.

Put it back together and amazingly it seems to be working fine.

However it is not detecting the fingerprint reader, google seems to suggest that this is to do with BIOS settings.

So I tried to change them to enable the fingerprint reader on the next boot up.

But it wants a password which I dont have.

Google says I can bypass this with a code that I get when the Bios login fails and locks out, then enter that code as a checksum into a password regenerator.

But I don't get any code when the login fails and it locks up.

It seems possible that I could reset the bios including passsword by removing the CMOS battery and all power but thats not definite for all laptops, and as it took me ages to put it together, not particularly keen to take it all apart again.

Gave up at that point and decided to throw myself at your mercy ??

Thanks again,

Rumi

Just bought a 2018 Yoga 920 and the fingerprint scanner is not being detected in Windows Hello or the device manager. YES, I have it completely updated from both the Windows Update screen as well as the Lenovo Vantage App. I went to Lenovo's website and downloaded/installed the proper driver and that did not help either. I have tried everything. I can't even find it or any "synaptics" related devices in my device manager. Somebody please help, it is so primal to have to type in a password; I'm in the stone age, neanderthalic, just discovered fire, have yet to invent the wheel - "ME NEED FINGERPRINT SCANNER". Thanks for your time ladies and gentlemen!

Hello,I have an Elitebook 8440p with a vfs451 (pid#0007) that is not being recognized by SimplePass/ProtectTools.When I first receved this computer, it had Windows 10 installed, which did not play nice with the hardware (mostly video/audio issues and WiFi). One thing that I did get to work in Win 10 was the fingerprint reader using a Windows 10-only driver.I did a few fresh installs (incl. repartition) of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and installed all drivers. On each reinstall, I was unable to get either Simplepass/ProtectTools or windows to recognize the reader. I used the folowing driver from the driver download page for my model: sp66915.exe This driver only showed in Device Manager, not Windows or the HP apps. Next I tried the folowing driver: sp56957.exe Windows now shows biometrics and lists the reader, but tells me to enroll, then that no app is installed to manage the credentials (ProtectTools/Simplepass was installed at this time). I tried the latest Simplepass, as well as ProtectTools 7 and 8, but simplepass couldnt detect the reader and the ProtectTools apps do not even give me the option to set up fingerprints. I am at wit's end on this. Ive been chasing my tail trying to find an answer, but all the soulutions either do not work for me, or are for different models of reader/notebook. Can anydbody help me out with this? Any help would be very mch appreciated. Thanks.

The FP reader does not work on my T450s under Windows 10, even though the drivers "Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=0017)" are installed correctly.I can get into the Windows Hello Fingerprint Setup (snapshot below) but the FP reader doesn't do a thing.Following the steps suggested in Fingerprint-support-on-Windows-10-ThinkPad-T440-and-newer does not change anything. The notebook is brandnew and I didn't have Win 7 or 8 on it before for testing the FP reader, but the driver installed without any issues -- so I guess it's not a hardware problem. I'm happy for any suggestion.

Ok, im not very computer minded, so this message may be brief to some....

I have owner and been using a HP Pavillion DV7 Laptop on Windows 7 Home Premium for nearly 6 months now. The computer has been great and worked well up until this morning.

A notice came up to do some updates, and once i clicked and computer restarted, I noticed my fingerprint reader no longer worked. I just get a message at first saying 'reading detector', then followed by 'The Fingerprint Reader Is Not Detected'. I had my finger sensor working fine daily up 2 this point.... its as if maybe a driver has been disabled or removed>?

Here's my problem... wtihout the sensor working, I have no possible way to get past user login screen. Its saying to type a password into box, but I cant for the life of me remember it, Im sure I never set one, as I knew the finger sensor would be easier?

Also I do not have any other accounts/usernames to enter into, and administator is not enabled....

anyone got an ideas?

I am essentially stuc at the login in screen, with no password or finger sensor. and I cant reset password as I get a message pop up saying 'This feature requires removable media'

Any help greatly appreciated.

A:'The Fingerprint Reader Is Not Detected'. Massive Problem, Please Help

I would guess this is a driver issue, so we need to figure out what is the driver. I checked out HP Finger Print detector and found this website -

AuthenTec Inc. Fingerprint Sensor Driver - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Not sure if this is the driver, but it says it's only compatible with Vista and you have W7? So possibly that's the problem?

Can you boot into Safemode without the machine requiring your finger print?

As much as anyone on this board would love to help, maybe hitting up HP to find out specifically what driver this device uses would be your first option.

Hey guys and gals, The sensor had been hit or miss from day one, when it worked it would sometimes take 3 presses before registering correctly. I've been using these kinds of sensors for years on my phones so I was suprised at how much effort it took to get it to work. It often wasn't avaliable to me when the laptop came out of sleep mode, or if the screen had been locked.  One day last month it stopped working completely. It isn't being detected at all in the device manager, unless it's under a differnt name now. I tried restoring from factory and seeing if I could get it back. After running all the Windows, driver, and firmware updates, it's still not present in the device manager. I went in the BIOS and checked to see that the fingerprint sensor was enabled. It was, and then I tried to delete any fingerprint data, but there wasn't any. So I'm wondering, has anyone else has had a similar issue and if there's a way I can fix this without having to RMA my otherwise kickass laptop?  Maybe the senseor is loose? Should I open her up and make sure everything's tight? I haven't unbuckled any of her fasteners yet, but if it could save me a month of being computerless while she's in the shop, I'll gladly try it.   Cheers

I have a T460s on a fresh install of Win10. I just bought an external USB fingerprint reader https://www.amazon.com/Fingerprint-PQI-Matching-Biometric-Security/dp/B06XG4MHFJ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&....My hope was that when my laptop was docked (on a ThinkPad Pro dock), I could plug it into a USB port on my external keyboard and login using it. For the time being, I'm just trying to get it working with the laptop undocked (i.e. forget about external keyboards, USB hubs etc.). Starting from scratch (i.e. fingerprints cleared in both Windows and the BIOS, and the external USB NOT plugged in), I setup the internal fingerprint reader, add prints, and am able login with no problem. When I plug in the external reader, drivers install just fine.  I enrolled a different finger, and was able to login just fine. However, when I unplug the external USB reader, I am never able to get the internal reader working again.  With the external unplugged and after a full restart, the internal will still not let me log in: the fingerprint option doesn?t even show up at the Windows login screen. The only way I can get the internal working again is by plugging the external in again (so that it appears in Device Manager), uninstalling both fingerprint devices (just uninstalling the external USB does not work), restarting the computer, and reenrolling my fingerprint using the internal. I know there is an option in the BIOS to just use the internal re... Good day,

Updated all drivers and software to the latest, as per dell support suggestion. Still <profanity> :D My old Vostro 3350 FP reader works better in any case.
And the second question is, can the nfc read tags? Installed a couple of programs from windows store, but they do not show the tags info. When the sound is on and I place a tag on the reader, there is chime and that is all. Device manager shows, that device is active and working without problems.
NFC card should be Mifare Plus.

A:Fingerprint Reader Why or Why Not?

Pros:

Can be useful with the right Win 7 compatible software - log in to forms/passwords.

Cons:

Your finger can be cut off to gain access, and even with a password, your system can be compromised, so options will need to adjusted in the software.

I have a dell usb fingerprint reader that worked on Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit and won't work on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. In vista I installed Dell Embassy Suit and it took care of everything for me. Of course vista didn't install its own driver to it. The minute I plugged in the fingerprint reader to Windows 7 it installed a driver. However this driver must not be any good because Windows 7 does not recognize it as a fingerprint reader when I try to enable its use to log onto Windows. Dell Embassy Suit can use the reader, but for some reason when I try to store fingerprints it will give me an error. Sometimes when I log onto Windows it will ask me to slide my fingerprint. When I do this it just asks for my user name and password directly after I swipe my finger. Its not super important, but I would like to get it working. Thanks for any help in advanced! -Kevin

@Usman_Ahmad? You can use the Fingerprint Driver listed for your notebook at your Driver pages:Synaptics (Validity) Fingerprint Sensor Driver Driver:sp74167 Synaptics-Validity Driver V4.5.321.0A Commentary Windows 10 provides its own "fingerprint logon" software program set.  You do not need any other security software installed to use the Windows 10 logon.  Windows 10 (fingerprint) logon does not work with websites; Windows logon will get you into the computer by letting you use a fingerprint to log into your account. Windows 10 requires that you assign a PIN number in PC Settings > Sign-in Options to enable the fingerprint scanner.  Why?  Microsoft has added this additional security to allow access to the fingerprint scanner / software.  It is best if you write down / remember the PIN -- you will need it if the fingerprint software fails - and this does happen.  Nice thing about PIN -- it is tied to the hardware; no one can use it to remotely log into your computer.  NOTE:  You still need a Windows Password assigned to your account (ie., your local password or your Microsoft password used for password logins) -- PIN and password are not related.  PIN allows you access to fingerprint and perhaps other login methods (Hello, Picture). Additional Local Admin AccountAdditionally, it might be a good idea to add an additional local account that has administrative privileges.  If you... There is no fingerprint reader. I can't decide if I should get one or not. I have prevoiusly used a laptop with a fingerprint reader but I just used it for logging on to windows.

Should I upgrade the laptop to have a fingerprint reader and what features do fingerprint readers have now?

Thanks!

A:Fingerprint Reader

Pretty much that's it. I believe you can also preprogram website passwords into it so you can login with one swipe, but the only websites that don't automatically log you in are banking sites and sites that the reader won't recognize the login screen on anyways.

I had a computer last year for school that had a finger print scanner, and it got used very little.

fingerprint scanners are far more reliable that the webcam facial recognition that some laptops have, but it's easy to just type in your password.

Hi, I got a laptop with DigitalPersona software for the fingerprint reader. Now it works great with logging in and stuff. But it gives me problems with firefox in general. Also when I want to use it to log into facebook, I would try set it up, but it would always select the wrong username fields, and doesnt recognise the password field. HELP!! If you go to the facebook login, you will notice there is the username and password aread at the top, and the fields for becoming a member at the bottom.. IT ALWAYS SELECTS THE BOTTOM FIELDS, so its a bit weird. Please help!

With Facebook, you have to be a bit creative to add its login to DigitalPersona fingerprint system. You have to do this only once, afterwards you can then use your fingerprint to login.

First, leave email and password fields empty and click Login.
New window opens telling about incorrect login credentials.
On this page you can setup fingerprint login normally.
