I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am working on a Sony Vaio (Rs Pcv-RS620G) with an Asus P4SD-VL motherboard, and since this motherboard was only made for Sony, I can't buy a new one. So now I need to know of a replacement that will work. The size of the current MOBO is 9.6 x 9.6 .

Hi there,

I am using a Sony PD 170 DV camcorder hooked up via 4 pin firewire to a Sony Vaio laptop. I am also using Avid Composer video editing software. The problem is that I can see the video from Avid in the viewfinder but it freezes in the viewfinder even though it is playing on the computer. This is preventing me from outputting a project. Do I need a driver for this camera?

I have recently purchased a Sony Vaio Laptop with wifi support that is inbuilt or onboard. I already have a Asus P5E3 Deluxe motherboard at my home with ram 2 gb, 9800 gtx card and a quad core processor. Now, I connect this pc with a broadband connection at home running 1mbps speed. This motherboard also has a wifi onboard connection. What I am trying to do is setup this wifi connection so that my laptop can also connect to the internet wirelessly. For this I have installed the wifi driver of Asus (something called Asus WiFi-AP @n software) and configured it with giving it a proper connection name and a password. I have successfully done all the wifi network setup wizard on the pc and it is working well. Now the problem is that, my laptop is able to find this wifi connection but after sometime it gives an error saying to troubleshoot network connection and the wifi network disappears from the laptop and again i have to search for this wifi network and the cycle continues. Similarly, when I am trying to connect my Nokia e90 mobile phone with the pc via wifi, my phone is able to pickup the wifi connection and sometimes it is able to connect to the internet and I am also able to browse different websites but sometimes it gives me a gateway time out error. So, can anyone tell me how can i connect my sony vaio laptop to the internet wirelessly by using the Asus P5E3 Deluxe WiFi-AP @n connection? does anyone have any idea where I can get a replacement power jack for a sony vaio laptop that is 5 years old or so. I mainly use it to browse the web, and check email, (buying a new one seems impractical) and currently the power cord won't register as connected. I checked the solder points on the power jack and everything looks good. No cracks or anything. If you hold the tip of the power cord into the jack extremely tight, it will atleast flash the lights like it detects the connection. Anyone have any other thoughts?

Hi everyone,
Need a little help please from you experts out there!!!! my partners SONY vaio laptop has died I think, it will not boot up just a black screen, when you press the on button the "light" lights up as if its going to boot but then the fan kicks in and just shuts off, I have tried doing F8 at the start but still nothing.
Has it just passed over to the big laptop world or can it be repaired without me going to a repair shop and getting ripped off because they could fob me off with anything.
Hope someone can help me please
Thanks in advance

A:Laptop SONY vaio

What is the model of this Vaio, and roughly how old is it ?
Do you get to see the BIOS screen when it starts - that's the one that says Sony Vaio or somesuch all over it - or do you not get any screen at all ?  If you do get the BIOS screen have a look and see what key it says for 'Setup'. This is usually either 'F2' or 'Delete' but it does vary. Then re-boot and press that key. If you saw the BIOS screen, this should now take you into the BIOS itself. The trackpad doesn't work in here, you need to use the arrow keys to move around. Move along the top line to 'Exit' and press 'Enter'. this will bring up a screen which among other options says 'Restore defaults and exit'. Select this one - with the arrow keys - then press 'Enter' again. This guarrantees that at least you have the system defaults set. The system will now try to re-boot. If it does, great. If not . . .
If this laptop is over three years old the battery may have died and I have known cases where a dead battery stopped a laptop starting even though plugged into the mains. Try taking the battery out and starting it just with the mains charger plugged in.
Post back and let us know how you get on with this. It may be that this Vaio is heading for its final reward but there is no doubt data on the hard drive that you may well want to recover which is not an overly difficult task.

My Sony VAIO laptop will only run in Safe Mode and BIOS. I have installed every possible OS on the planet including it's own restore disks. I have done every thing I can think of shy of new RAM and CPU and HD to figure out why it does this. Please Help !!

A:Sony Vaio Laptop

Hi there!

If it runs in Safe Mode, then it's most likely caused by a software or driver issue.

In safe mode
Check "Selective Startup"
UN-CHECK "process config.sys file" (if there)
UN-CHECK "process autoexec.bat file" (if there)
UN-CHECK "Load Startup Group Items"

click apply, then OK or Close
reboot and see!

If there's a specific error message, please post it here!

Good Luck!

Sounds like the power invertor for the display is dying..(common problem in notebooks) If so, your need a replacement screen invertor for that model notebook, and someone capable of replacing it.. They can commonly be found on ebay..

Hi all. I've got this Sony Vaio laptop that I'm trying to get it to work. A friend of mine said he used it for parts, so it is missing a few hardware pieces. However, I am having problems getting it to run.

It is missing a hard drive, and the RAM pieces.

When I plug it in, the power icon works, shows a green light.

The product name is VPCF136FM, the model is PCG-81115L.

When I turn the machine on, screen doesn't turn on. It just stays black, I can hear the GPU fan turn on (It takes about 15 seconds for the GPU fan to even turn on), but no matter how long I leave the laptop on, the screen just stays black, it does nothing. I was thinking maybe the GPU was taken out, but I later learned the graphics card is basically embedded into the motherboard, so you can't remove it.

Anyone know why the screen isn't working? Or should I just throw it in the trash?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

A:Need Help With Sony Vaio Laptop

Without RAM it will never run. You MUST have at least one RAM module.

The fan on a laptop will run for a few seconds until the temperature monitoring software loads, then it only runs when it gets hot enough.

There is a small switch inside the headphone jack that cuts off the speekers when headphones are connected. This switch is likely broken and the only way to fix it so you could get sound through headphones and not speekers would be to send it in to have the jack repaired. You could disable integrated audio and get a usb or PCMCIA sound card to use for headphones but then your internal speakers wouldn't work at all, even when headphones were disconnected.

I'm not sure whether the processor fan on my Sony Vaio laptop is switching on or not, the case gets very hot.

Is there some way to force it to switch on? Perhaps a setting to tell the PC to turn it on at a lower temperature?

A:Sony Vaio Laptop Fan

Usually its temperature controlled, but most laptops run the fan briefly at the beginning of the boot process. If that is not happening, perhaps it needs replacement.

There is no setting that I am aware of to force it.

I have a Sony Vaio, FS740/W lap top, whose video will hopefully that will go into a Sharp LC big screen Model LC52L65U with a 15 pin PC input

I used the standard VGA cord that came with my LG monitor, (that I was using on my desktop which is now using digital) , and plugged it into the TV, and into the Laptop.

When I tried to switch the laptop over, the TV said the signal was incompatible. The driver is the most updated driver, version dated 6/8/2005 from Sony.

Any ideas? I was hoping I could plug in the laptop and use the big screen to teach some of the veterans here, how to access the internet. Easier to do with a big screen, if ya know what I mean.

Oh, BTW, XP home, service pack 2, intel pent' 1.73ghz, 2 gig ram

Does anyone know where I can find out the necessary specifications for installing the correct model CPU on a Sony Vaio PCG-F680 notebook motherboard. I'd like to know so that I can perhaps find one second hand. I want to make sure that I don't get one that doesn't fit, or isn't supported by the motherboard. I'm an intermediate user, but willing to learn. I believe I need to know things like MHz, voltage (range?), .13 or .18 micron?, FSB, etc. If someone has a resource and/or knows where they can direct me, I'd be very grateful. Plus if anyone has the "hook-up" on where to buy these items at a decent price, that would be great, too!

Thanks and God Rules!

My Sony Vaio PCG-Y1L crashed recently. It was running Windows Vista Home Edition but the problem is I bought this when it was being phased out (floor model) at Office Depot back in 2006. I was never given a system restore disk or an OEM copy of the operating system. When it crashed, I used a backed up copy of Vista Ultimate that came with my old Dell and now every time I boot the laptop up it tells me I'm running a copy of Windows that isn't genuine. I want to wipe the disk clean and reinstall a legit copy of Windows -- my question is, since I have the product key that came with my laptop (and I legally purchased the laptop WITH the OS on it), can I legally install someone else's Visa Home Edition and just use my product key?

A:Sony Vaio laptop crashed

Contact Sony and get you self a set of CD's. They run about $25.00 US including shipping. It will be a Vista Home Edition as that is what came on the machine.

There was a hidden partition that is used to do System Recover, which will set it back to factory settings. But since you used a different CD to rebuild, then the recover will NOT work. The key that you have will only work with the Vista Home Edition and you have installed Vista Ultimate version.

If you get the CD from Sony, you will not need to enter the Key Code, just activate the OS.
Now if you have a Retail Vista Home Edition CD, then you can rebuild it and use the listed Key Code with it.

A:Sony vaio laptop keeps turning off

It's not usable with those sort of temperatures and its shutting down so that the excess heat doesn't damage the laptop. It'll need cleaning out to remove dust and fluff. Quite possibly heat paste needs to be reapplied to the cpu and gpu chips. I suggest that you get a computer shop to do this for you. How much it costs will be largely down to how much work is involved in getting inside it but it shouldn't be particularly expensive. Remember that a laptop should be used on a hard flat surface.

Hey there. I have a 1 year old Sony VAIO laptop with Windows XP. It seems Windows will not load. I turn on the computer and then the screen freezes on me in the middle of loading. I restart and get this menu with safe mode, safe mode w/ networking, last working config. I can get into safe mode but nothing else works. I suspect what happened is either my dad or myself was using it and forgot to turn it off and left it on all night and that somehow caused this problem.

I asked someone for help and he suggested reinstall windows xp by booting to SONY XP cd recovery console and try a repair installation but I don't know if I have the necessary tools (or computer smarts for that matter). I don't have any SONY backup cds. I do have this cd called Windows XP Service Pack 2 but I'm told that I need a Windows XP setup cd?

I also have a lot of files on my hard drive (docs, mpegs, mp3s) and am afraid of losing it all but I have no way of backing them up now that even my cd burner doesn't seem to be working.

I'm a bit apprehensive at this point as to what to do as I'm a bit of a novice on computers. Do you think you can guide me through this? I appreciate any help.

Sorry, wasn't sure exactly what section this problem belonged in, so i'm posting here.

I'm using my sister's Sony Vaio laptop that i decided to downgrade from vista home premium to windows XP. The first thing i should have done should've been to get all the hardware information while on vista.... but i completely forgot. I backed up my general files but not the hardware information.

Now I'm stuck with a brand new installation of windows XP and no internet because XP isn't recognizing my NIC.

I've been googling around for some hours now with nothing.

I've gone to all the main "official" Vaio Sony sites. They all ask for model or product, but for some reason my model doesn't come up anywhere i check. There is also another option to type down your serial and product key which is a 15 digit number. Whereas the first 7 digits are the serial and the 8 other digits the product key. Still it doesn't seem to be a model of any sort... No site recognizes this Vaio model for some odd reason.

Model : PCG-5K1L.

I installed service pack 3, i thought it would at least be able to detect a network card, but to no avail it couldn't.

Everest home edition has no more luck detecting.

In hardware manager the only thing detected was the 1394 firewire port.

This laptop, from what my sister said, came with no manual or other useful information; meaning none.

I'm really stumped on what else I could do. I was thinking i... Read more

Hey guys. I have a Sony Vaio laptop that is about 4 years old. It's always been a good machine but I haven't been using it because it shuts off randomly for no reason and with no warning. SometimesI could use it for 3 hours doing whatever I want... Other times it shuts off like the power is cut instantly, even when I'm first booting it up before it's in use and getting hot.

I took the cover off today after looking around and the other forums with similar issues all saying it was full of dust and probably needed to be cleaned... Well as you can see, dust is not the problem.

Do you guys have any ideas?

I very much doubt it. But many laptops have a jack for an external keyboard. If you could find one you liked, even a wireless one, you could use that instead. Wireless would allow you to really manipulate the placement and angle for the most comfortable access.

Hi everybody.

I'm having troubles with my cousin's laptop, which is really slow after its start. Opening a folder takes too much time, the same is with custom application such as internet browser or ordinary pdf file.

If some apps are opened, for example Skype and Firefox, switching from one app to another is really long, imo longer than it should be.

Opened internet browser: if I want to open a new tab it is not fast as normally.
Copy-pasting on this laptop is also slow.

Actually everything except starting Windows takes too much time.

I'm leaving country in two days and it would be awesome, if somebody will be interested to help us. He has only 14 years and I want to teach him via Skype which is not so pleasurable for him with this laptop.

We will be ready to fix this issue also via sharing screen, no worries about wasting your time, we will deeply appreciate any kind of help!

They said that all hardwares are looking fine, no physical damage, but laptop still crashes even when it's cold.Did malware and virus scan-clean, did triple ramtest check-clean, graphic overcloac test- no crashes. I went in safemode and opened 10 youtube videos and 3 games at once-works fine. Only suspicion left on my new battery charger because the old one died because of sudden electricity charge at my home so I bought some replacement "Europower XRT" model XRT90-190-47--SON. Here is my speccy.
Thanks in advance.

Wait until it freezes, then recover and then Let's try looking at these 2 sets of reports:1)  Please run this report collecting tool (even though you may not be reporting BSOD's) so we can provide a complete analysis:  http://omgdebugging.com/bsod-inspector/When done a Notepad document will open with the name of the file and it's location.By default it'll be a .zip file located on your DesktopSimply upload the .zip file with your next post and we'll move on from there. If it doesn't work for you, then please try this:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/2)  Please do the following:- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")- right click on the "Administrative Events" heading- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."- save the file as Admin.evtx- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility:  http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Hey guys,

I have a 4-year old Sony Vaio VGN-S460 that won't boot up. The machine was running slowly for a long while and I was about to start cleaning it up. But today when I powered it on, the VAIO logo would show up but then nothing happens. I tried F8 to go into Safe Mode but nothing happens when I press F8.

I know the problem isn't the screen nor windows since it worked yesterday. So what can I do?

Intel Pentium M 740 1.73 GHz
512 MB RAM
80 GB HD
NVidia GeForce Go 6200

Can you get into BIOS setup?

What kinds of problems were you having before?

Anything new installed? What was the last thing you did to the machine? Anything removed by scanners?

I'm trying to fix a laptop for a friend, but it has turned out to be a tough problem to solve and I'm not sure where to go next with it.

It's a Sony Vaio, PCG-6D2L, I can't find it on the Sony website. It's one hard drive, Hitachi Travelstar 5K80, an Intel Centrino, an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700, running XP.

The problem started when she slammed the lid down a bit too hard, now it's pretty much dead. When I turn on the power, the fans turn and the power light goes green, but that's it. The hard drive spins up for a couple of seconds, but then seems to give up and switch off again. The screen stays off, not even a flicker. I've tried connecting it to another screen through the VGA out but there was no signal coming out of it. It's also not responding to any kind of inputs as far as I can tell, i.e. pressing the lock keys doesn't illuminate the corresponding LED. No sounds come out of the speakers to indicate windows starting or anything like that.

I'm not sure what to do as I can't even see the POST or BIOS on the screen, so I'm asking for help. Anyone?

Thank you,

PS Just to add, it's outside warranty and I've already opened it up and had a look inside, so don't worry about giving 'hands-on' advice.

A few weeks ago, my computer started making a clicking noise when it would turn on. Then Windows (XP) would boot normally. A few days after this started, anytime I tried to open a program, it would tell me it either does not exist or I do not have permission to access it. This includes all windows system programs like defrag, disk cleanup, as well as all installed programs. I "can" hit control/alt/delete and do a new task and open up a few things with that (Like the browser, email, defrag, disk cleanup, and a few others). There have been a few times while starting that it tells me no operating system found, then it will restart and Windows will boot up normally. I tried to do a system restore back to Feb 22nd which is the furthest back it would allow me to go, and it still won't let me open anything. I'm trying to find my system recovery disks to restore it back to factory settings but I'm missing one. I can't even make new ones because I cannot get into that program on the computer!

Do you have any advice?? Do you think it's the hard drive? Or some issue with the entire laptop? Any help would be greatly appreciated so I hopefully don't have to go buy a new one!

My computer is a Sony Vaio VGN-FS660 series with Windows XP.

I have a Sony Vaio Vgn-s38gp Laptop that I have recently performed a recovery on to reset the system. Prior to starting this process all functions such as the inbuilt mouse, wireless etc all were working fine. Now the laptop has the software for all the functions but when I enter into device manager it is registered as a pc. It thinks that there is a usb connecting the keyboard to the system and that it doesn't have the facilities to use the wireless internet.

Is there any way to change my system back to registering as a laptop? I have had this problem in the past (many years ago when we did a system recovery then) but can't remember how we got around this.

Please help!

Greetings - I've looked at considerable input, but can't find anything that tells me how to replace the hard drive in the subject Sony laptop. I can tell by the sound where it is, but can't figure out how to get to it. Took out all the screws, but can't pry off the back. I'm sure there are some clips I'll break.
Anyone know of a step-by-step for a person who is a step or two above a novice??

Many thanks!

Hi, I have a sony vaio laptop 'vgn-ns30es' and for the past week it has slowed down considerably. I'm not really sure what the problem could be but it is quite slow on when I'm on the internet or when I'm just using the laptop ie using Word etc. I have noticed some spikes on the CPU usage going up to 100% now but can't seem to figure out whats wrong with it. I have scanned it with Mcafee and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware but this hasn't helped. Any help is much appreciated. I have also rebooted it with all the start up programs taken off. Please let me know if it is a possible infection or how I can resolve this. Thanks in advance

A:Sony Vaio laptop very slow

Try running RKill (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/rkill) then scanning again.
