I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently performed a system recovery because I was unable to back up to earlier time before we started having computer issues. Anyway I performed a recovery. Stumbled accross this by accident that windows has 3 days before it wall automatically activate. So I clicked activate. It gave me this message header. "The Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for windows activation". There are 3 options. 1 is to Buy a new product key online. 2 is to type a different product key. 3 is to contact Hewlett-Packard Company to resolve this issue. I contacted Hewlett-Packard Company and they had me call Microsoft. Microsoft wants to charge me $100 for something I already own. Very confused. Anyway does anyone have a fix for this. Thank you

A:Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for windows activation

Hi
You have two choices:
You may either reinstall using the recovery partition, if you have one.
or
You could look for the key on the computer. It can be anywhere, including the battery compartment, if you have a lappy.
As a last restort you can try to use magic jelly bean, but I have doubts since you reinstalled.

Hiya,

I am having a problem with my windows 7 home premium 64bit. I wiped my computer to try and get a new graphic card to work( never got it working, gave up and went back to my old graphic card) Since then I have had to wipe my computer a number of times, I kept having to wipe my computer since the same problem kept happening. Which is that my windows will crash and wont work after about 1-2mins after start up.

I thought it was my disk so I installed it from a usb windows installer and has been runnign fine for about 2 weeks until I was free to do the phone activation of my windows, I phoned up the activation after using my computer for a while then after I phoned and it came up genuine (like normal) I went to get a drink befor doing more work and once getting back to my computer I opened a new tab on firefox it was very slow on the internet so I clsoed my browser and tried to reopen it and but it woulnd't open windows has frozen completely so I pressed the restart button on my case and let it boot up and then it wouldn't let me do anything.

Does anyone have any idea of how come my computer seem to freeze and refuse to work once I use the windows phone activation?

A:Windows wont work after using windows 7 home phone activation

What makes you think it is the activation? Did you go click on "Start Button", right click on "Computer" and left click on "Properties"? When the screen comes up scroll down to the right bottom of the screen and you should see a "Genuine Windows Logo". If it says something different then there is an activation problem.

Hi. I have a windows xp home machine connected through ethernet to my dsl router. This is the machine that I want to share files from.
My laptop is running windows xp pro. Sharing files is easy, but I want to make it so that not just anyone who has access to my network has access to the shared files on the xp home machine. I'd like to give access to a certain remote user for certain directories. I've read that you can't do this with xp home but if you boot into safe mode(which I've done) you get the more robust interface with the myriad of permission choices. But I still can't figure out how to get it working, even from safe mode.
I tried creating an account on the windows home machine that's the same as the account on the laptop that I would use when I tried to access the directory and I tried giving permissions to that user, but it didn't work.
Is there a way to get xp home to play here?

A:Give specific permissions to windows shares on xp home/pro

By default, simple file sharing is enabled on most Windows XP-based computers. If simple file sharing is enabled, everyone in your workgroup has access to your shared folders. If simple file sharing is disabled, members of your workgroup cannot access your shared folders until you choose to share particular folders or drives with those users or groups that you select.Click to expand...

I got this from the Microsoft website. Unfortunately, you cannot disable simple file sharing on XP Home so herein lies your problem. I will search!

EDIT: I found this WIKI on how to disable simple file sharing for XP home.

It sounds legitimate (never had a problem with wikihow) but I personally have never tried it due to my lack of an XP Home machine. You can give it a try.

I had a question. Helping a person awhile back and I am still trying to think of something.
He has a Gateway computer and he said he doesn't have an XP home CD. I tried to run Sfc /scannow on his computer cause after cleaning I tnink he was missing a few or some dll files. Anyway it would run for just alttle bit and would need a dll file and would say to put in your XP disk. Like I said he hasn't got one, I told him to put in the recovery disk to see if that would do any good and he said it didn't. How would you point it toward something you need or could you and if so how. There has to be a way he could get the files back if gateway didn't give him a disk isnt there? just wondering, now that I am thinking about it ,,it was Windows XP home SP2 I was just wondering in case I run across it again or could help him.

OK Its been over a week of trying to eliminate/reduce (to an unnoticeable level) of Live playback latency after I install my eClaro Sound card. I plug in my mic and there is a definite latency of audio played back. I've researched ALOT and still am having issues. I even installed Windows XP after I did 7 and ran into more problems with drivers there... So I'm back to 7.

I'm not the most tech savvy person, and have learned most of my knowledge trying to fix my problem. (ex Registry edit, BIOS) Reg back to normal since reinstalling 7

I have successfully taken care of the latency issues with the motherboard/onboard audio. But once I install my sound card the problem returns.

Once I select my eclaro as default playback device... my playback for the mic is gone. "listen to this device is unchecked". Alot of info I found says turn down the mic on playback and turn up the mic on the sound card mixer. That would be easy enough.

Not sure what I need to do? I would like to use my sound card... but might return it and use the crappy motherboard audio....

I built the system strictly for music production. But I'm assuming Windows 7 thinks it... Read more

A:Windows 7 Home 64 and HT eClaro 7.1 Live audio latency. I give up!

I have a Sonar X2 (Producer) studio. Its generally accepted that PC sound cards make poor devices for recording and latency is a prime issue, from what I see on the recording forums.

You would do better with a USB connected recording interface device. The small 2 channel devices are very popular if you don't need any more channels. The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is an example. Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 | Sweetwater.com

Hello all, About 3 years ago I bought my HP Envy 17 laptop at Vandenborre, a legit retail chain in Belgium. It had Windows 8 pre-installed. Over the years I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and later to Windows 10. It worked like a charm, up until last week. I had a lot of problems, so decided to go for a reset to factory settings. I went through all the correct steps in order to do this. Now I am back with Windows 8, but it is a non-activated version. I would like to be able to activate it again, but it says my product key is not valid. I contacted Microsoft. They said my product key was blocked for whatever reason. They advised me to contact HP to get a new Windows 8 Core OEM key. Could you guys help me out here?  Thanks a lot in advance.

The installed Key is the Default Key - and can never be activated.
You need to change the Key to the one on your COA sticker - if the machine has one.
The BIOS is dated Jan 2013 - so I'd be surprised if it has a Windows7 COA sticker at all. Is there a Windows 8 Sticker on there instead?

Activation key is embedded in the computer and you do not have access to it. Did you mistakenly enter a key? That is not necessary. The Activation will automatically scan the computer and read your embedded key. When reinstalling win 10 you skip the first question about a product key by choosing I don't have a key. Then activate after the reinstallation is finished.

Let me start by saying that I legally purchased Windows XP (Genuine) Home Edition version 2002 back when Win XP was first released. Over the years, I have made quite a number of changes to my computer (upgrading parts, replacing defective parts, etc). Now it seems, I've made enough changes that Microsoft has decided that my copy is no longer legal. Because I consider that I should be allowed to change/upgrade parts to my personal computer as much as I want without Microsoft's seal of approval, I haven't bought another copy of Win XP and refused to consider changing to Vista because I don't like it. I had just decided to bite the bullet and get a copy of Windows 7, but before I could do so, things went to hell in a handbasket. I was working on my computer this past weekend when all of the sudden, I got several error messages. One was low virtual memory, followed by two related to svchost and I didn't get a chance to read what the other message said cause in the middle of my screen popped up a large box with Internet Security 2010. I immediately hit ctrl-alt-del, but was denied access. At that point, I noticed that this thing had apparently installed itself because I could see it on my start menu. I also couldn't shut my system down through the normal process and had to shut it down the hard way. I disconnected the cable to kill my internet connection as well. is that oem windows or retail version? you mentioned that you use same key on other pcs.
i think you can use one windows license only on one pc, if its oem it is bound to the hardware on which it was activated and you can not transfer it. if its retail you have to use only one active copy if there is hardware change you may need to do phone activation.

I have an older Acer 1410 that I recently replaced the HDD on.

On the Microsoft sticker, the product version reads:

"Windows 7 Home Prem OA Acer Group"

Underneath that is the product key.

I know I had a 64bit version of Windows 7 installed, so I downloaded an ISO of Windows 7 Home Premium from digital river and installed it on my computer. (The laptop did not come with it's own installation disc)

However, when I try to activate the product using the product key, I am told that the product key is not correct. I recall being able to call Microsoft to activate over the telephone in the past, but it appears this option is not available any more?

I know that activation is some sort of anti piracy thing, but my copy had already been activated - about 3 years ago - and it accepted the activation no problem. How does the system know I'm going to junk my old system? Same thing happened when I reloaded my copy of Office.

Hi, Welcome to SF

1.) Call notebook support and explain the situation to them and they will ask you for some information about the laptop (ie. serial number, model, etc.) and will sometimes provide a new key that will get you activated ( OEM versions are supported by the manufacturer and not MS so they are suppose to be the ones that verify the purchase and provide support to get the system reactivated if there are problems )

2. If notebook manufacturer will not help then call the MS activation hotline and explain to them that the Software required a reinstall and notebook manufacturer will not help will sometimes get MS to provide help (they will ask for information about the system to ensure you are installing the correct version that came with the system and will want you to give them any info you can still read from the sticker as well as the model and serial number of the laptop etc. )

Normally since you are dealing with a laptop that did come with the OS preinstalled one or the other will provide an activation response code that will activate the system but it does sometimes take a bit of talking with the support staff to get it done.

A person I know had PC problems which were sorted by replaceing the motherboard. The PC worked for a short while after the motherboard had been replaced until a system restore was ran. Now when the PC is turned on Windows XP Home Edition asks to be activated 9it has not been re-installed). It does not even allow you to click on "Remind me later".

Activating online doesnt work, so we have tried activating by phone. When inputting the Installation key on the phone we are asked to "Change the product key". When this key also doesnt work we get put through to a person. This person asks the same but the installation keys it is giving us never work. The person on the phone told us to contact Packard Bell (because windows came pre-installed on the PC) but when we do they just bump us back to Microsoft.

This is a genuine copy of XP Home Edition with a genuine serial key. Normally I'd just go for the complete wipe of the PC route but we don't have the original CD that came with the PC (and as it's the same key we'd be using I dont know if it would be any different when it came to activating) There is also some important info on the hard drive.

I know we could retreive this info then do a complete wipe (after obtaining an XP Home cd from somewhere) but that is a last resort, as we can't do that for at least another week.

Welcome to TSF....

Try doing a repair-installation of windows and at the appropriate time insert the PID and you should be all set.

If you still have access to the computer thru normal operation you can use this procedure:

Emergency Backup Procedure from TSF
http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...procedure.html

You might have to remove the hard drive from this computer and install it in another computer as a slave drive and after it is able to be accessed by Windows on that computer you will have to manually backup all of your important data that you have to another media like CD-R's, DVD or external hard drive. Then when this is done return it to the original computer as a master drive on the primary IDE cable. and do the following:

If you do not understand the Registry material presented here, either find a technically knowledgeable friend or do not attempt to repair your system Registry yourself. Hello everyone, I've been stuck on trying to upgrade to Windows 10. I am currently using a OEM Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, HP Pavilion dv6 laptop.

Problem started when I notified Microsoft that I wanted to upgrade to Windows 10. I upgraded with my wife's laptop first. She also has the same laptop, but its a newer version. Windows 10 installed fine, so I decided to do mine. So I repeated the steps I did when I upgraded my wife's laptop. I clicked on the Windows icon in my task bar. It told me Windows upgrade was ready, so I clicked on continue. I let the update take its course. After 8 hours of seeing the words "working on it" I decided to exit out of the program, thinking something is wrong. I restarted my laptop and clicked on the Windows icon again. This time I did this before I went to bed. When I woke up it still had the words "working on it." So I did some research and I came across a thread that stated to use Windows update. Would like to get my HP laptop back running original windows 7 home premium ( I think that is it or that is my desktop Dell computer) either way both desktop and my laptop run windows 7. I tried to uninstall windows 10 thru my control panel programs and features didn't work So then I tried restoring to a previous date and time this did not work either. I read somewhere that you must uninstall windows 10 within a certain time period? which to me seems like garbage! Would anybody be able to instruct me on how get my windows 7 back on my HP laptop please without losing my pictures and all my documents?

A:uninstall windows 10 back to my original windows 7 home premium

Welcome to the forum. Do you have a recovery partition or rescue disk for 7 as it won't role back you will have to do a clean install or recover back to how it came. If you put files you want to keep in Google drive or ms one drive wait for it to sync and when you get 7 back they will appear

This computer was donated to RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program).  We repair/refurbish donated equipment and then donate it to local charity organizations that need it.  When I booted the computer, there was a message indicating that Windows 7 Home Premium may not be genuine and needs to be activated.  When I tried to activate it, I was offered the option to buy a new product key online or type a different product key.  I do not know the original product key, but need to be able to activate the product.

Take a look at the computer's case.  Is there a "genuine Microsoft" sticky-label on the back/sides/bottom of the case?Does it contain a 25-character product-key?  If so, use the product-key.  From: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-p6000-desktop-pc-series/3884665I looked at this computer's specifications, on the HP Support web-site.Sometimes, one can still order a copy of the originally-installed software, for a small fee, from HP.Unfortunately, not so, for this model. Some Other People on have recommended:  www.ComputerSurgeons.comas a source for buying a copy of the original software, again for a small fee. If your charity is registered in Canada, see: www.techsoupcanada.caMicrosoft donates copies of Windows 10 and Office 2016 to Registered Charities, for a small "administrative fee".

Here's the relevant part of the MGADiag report:

License Status: Notification
Notification Reason:
0xC004F009 (grace time expired).
Remaining Windows rearm count: 3

Run attached & see if it you have windows product key in registry.

You said Refurb PC, does it have product key sticker on machine? desktop usually on left side bottom. laptop usually on bottom or inside battery compartment.

You can enter this in elevated command prompt 3 times total, which has not been done yet according to MBADiaglog, but it's a temporary fix and resets the trial period.

I have 2 computers that I have completely reformatted & Clean Installed Windows 7 on them both. I Have 2 Seperate win 7 disk for them. 1 is a desktop, Other is Dell Inspiron 1545. (Labtop) is the one im working on right now, (testing) I Have Done This Many Times In The Past With No Problems. now im having problems with both getting any more upgrades after windows update installs its version "Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320". After This They Both Hung Up. So For The Labtop, I Have Totally Reformatted Twice From Disk trying to fix this with no success. im stuck on internet explorer 8 and it wont let me go to almost none of the microsoft support pages to be able to run-try other fixes.
I have managed to run the sfc /scannow and it did not find any violations/problems.
I Have Also Downloaded The Stand Alone/Rediness Tool and ran it. It Still Just Says Searching For Updates. Not Sure What Else I Need To Do, Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated. Logs are attached.

A:windows updates searching, give error 80080005, back to searching

Hi Marie318 & welcome to SevenForums. I'll try to help you.
How long did you let windows update run? It sometimes takes hours usually 3-4 for the updates to appear. some reports of 24-48, but rare. SURT takes a while to complete, depending on the issues it finds.

I usually set my computer to sleep never, start windows update & call it a night. when I check in the morning, 200+ updates are ready to install. If you have 4gb of ram, choose about 100 or so & they should install, for the most-part. Trying to install all of them at once will most likely produce "out of memory" error. WU doesn't choose them in any particular order even though some are prerequisites for others. SP1 is a major one.

If you start task manager under the performance tab, while downloading updates, you will see the ram load. all updates are temporarily stored in ram until Windows verifies each update is complete & digital signature is valid.

I turned on my computer and it has a pop-up that reads "The windows vista home premium product key you typed is invalid for activation". There are 3 options 1. Access your computer with reduced funtionality. This will allow you to buy a new product key online. 2. Type a different product key. 3. Contact Dell to help reolve this problem.

Before this the computer was working, in fact I used it earlier in the day, I didn't download anything, didn't do anything new. I've had this computer for about 3 years. I don't know why i'm suddenly getting this pop up, maybe it's a virus I don't know.

When I click on the first option (1) my firefox opens to this Genuine Windows website http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/genuine
I tried to look it up, seems like a lot of ppl have this problem and no solution.

I have no access to my desktop, no start menu, no taskbar, time, icons, etc, just firefox and when I minimize firefox there is the pop-up. I thought about running malware bytes but i have no access to that.
Please help.

A:The windows vista home premium product key you typed is invalid for activation

Yes, this is an issue that some people have experienced, from what I remember this sometimes happens because of a corrupt Windows Update. 95% of the time the easiest way to resolve the issue is to find the Windows Certificate Of Authenticity and re-enter the product key. If this is a laptop computer you should be able to find the sticker on the bottom of the computer or in some cases I have seen the sticker hidden inside the battery compartment. If it is a desktop, look on the sides of the case or the rear.

Make sure you are connected to the internet when you re-enter the key so that the activation process can complete without incident.

The certificate of authenticity will look very similar to this....

Hi all,

Pretty sure I am screwed, but if that is the case, I'll be pretty pissed....this is a bit of a story, so bear with me.

I do some light computer work on the side. I was recently given a client's Win7 desktop that was acting up - wouldn't boot. Tried everything I could to fix it, nothing would work, so I took the key off of it (it had a Win7 SP1 Home Prem install...honestly not sure if it was 32 or 64-bit, but PRETTY sure it was 64-bit as it's a machine with 8gb of RAM) and reformatted. Now I can't get it to activate. The machine is a Dell Inspiron 545 desktop, but there is no Windows sticker with a key anywhere on it (I retrieved the key using a keyfinder program).

The machine was sold used to my client by another local computer tech. He had to format it last time I had this issue because I didn't have a legit Windows key or disk to format it with and he never gave them any reinstall media (no Win7 install disk and no recovery disks from Dell, and the machine has never had a recovery partition since I've first seen it). This time, he left the Windows key on the machine in a .doc file for any future techs....however, as I said, the key isn't allowing itself to be activated.

MGADiag claims it's an OEM_SLP key (MGADiag log attached below)...if that is the case, it's supposedly the key that came with the machine from the factory, and if THAT is the case, how did he pull that one off in terms of installing it...? The machine has no recovery partition, unless he never ga... Read more

Hello Angie,

It sounds like that may not have the product key number. The product key number is a sequence of 25 letters and numbers divided into 5 groups of 5 characters each.

Product Key Number

Is this a OEM or retail copy of Vista that you installed?

You will not be able to use the product key number if your friend has it activated on her computer.

Basically, for safety sake, that would be the contents of the My Documets folder only.
Unless you run accounting software like QuickBooks, Quicken etc.

You can get a USB flash drive ad just copy and paste the files to the USB device.
It is for your own protection to have duplicates.

A:I can't back up my Windows 7 Home Premium

Hello entinggi and welcome to Seven Forums.

The most common cause of a quick flash of the command prompt screen after clicking a link is that the program is reporting an error of some sort. It could be your computer has damaged or corrupt system files. Run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If any problems are found run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan. Post back the results.

About three years ago I went from Dell to HP and purchased an extended warranty. I had used Windows
Pro with the Dell, but HP told me I had to use Home Premium or void the contract. It dawned me recently
that whenever my machine crashes, HP support says to do a clean Windows install (!), which I do. I know
how to do that blind-folded; why do I need a warranty to cover it? Answer: I don't.
I want to uninstall Home Premium and reinstall Windows Pro. I really appreciate your instructions for

I like their PCs and other products, and the tech support is very good. Thanks to all. ellen

Hello forum,
I recently had a Hard Drive replacement and,of course, a full clean install to factory level.
Prior to this I completed a FULL files back-up to a Maxtor external Hard Drive (250gb).
To my horror a transfer of these files back to the computer fails with the message "back up location is not available" appearing. When I did this back-up it stated that it had completed successfully.
Is there any advice out there about how to resolve this matter. Otherwise I may be faced with expensive data retrieval procedure from either the extracted Hard Drive
