XPS 8700 - Games stuttering after upgrade

Q: XPS 8700 - Games stuttering after upgrade

Hello, I had a XPS 8700, an old model to be honest. It had a GT635 1GB and an i7 4770k, 8GB RAM etc.
So, I've asked before in a few websites, including here about upgrading. I've bought a GTX 1050 2gb, and only that. I still have the MoBo from Dell and the processor that came with the computer.
So, from the day I bought the video card I'm suffering from a problem which I believe that is hardware related, because I have already tested almost everything. The upgrade was a perfect hit, I'm running almost every new game on favorable settings and perfomance. But the real problem is, in every game, even on the games which don't require high hardware, I'm suffering from stutters, freezes that occurs all the time and have a duration of 1 to 2 seconds. They happen every 5 seconds of playtime, and I've asked in more than 3 websites since the two last months (when I upgraded the GPU.)
I don't think the GPU is the problem as I've tested on another computer and didn't have any problems. So I think it is related to my computer. Last week I ran dell complete diagnostic program and it didn't find any problems. Nothing is overheating when I monitor the temps. CPU Usage is normal too. Memory isn't the problem either, so my last resort is to ask here, and I hope you guys can help me. I've always been satisfied with Dell, and they support for upgrades. So I hope we can solve this.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
My system came with a R9 270 which I want to replace with a Sapphire Dual X R9 R280x.
That card needs a 6pin and an 8pin connection and the manufacturer's site say a 500W PSU is advised.
So, I'm concerned that I get a new PSU that fits my case, has the right connectors for all the 8700 components, and is say north of 600W.
Could anyone point me in the right direction.
My system info is......

I have this PC for years, and last year my GPU started overheating (The same game I've played with 70°C was now 100°C), so I cleaned everything and Reapplied the Thermal Paste on the processor. So everything was back to normal.
But last month, it started all again, but now everything is clean. Just to make sure, I cleaned it again but when I play a game like Overwatch, when the GPU is at 70°C, the game runs on 60 frames per second. But after 10min playing, the GPU is already on 103°C and the FPS has a massive drop to 20~25. This all started last month.
Could someone help me? Please, I know it isn't supposed to be like this.
My GPU is a GT635.

If you are planning on just adding another 16GB be advised mixing brands/types does not work many times.  I tried that on my home built desktop and with ASUS motherboard and an i7 6700K CPU.  I had some G Skill Ripsaws and some Corsair Dominator.  They wouldn't work together, either the G Skill only or the Corsair only worked OK.
FWIW, here is the Crucial listing of memory for the XPS 8700.  Crucial is guaranteed to work in Dell's but again I would advise against mixing memory, keep it all the same brand/type.

Hi everyone,

I have a REALLY annoying problem with my PC.

When I play computer games I will get frequent half second pauses/stutters. It happens every 10 seconds or so, and i'm not certain but i THINK it's when a game plays a sound file.

What makes it all the more strange is that when i played the Guild Wars 2 beta it didn't happen AT ALL, yet on games like League of Legends and Guild Wars 1 it happens non-stop.

I have tried alot of different ideas that i've found on various gaming tech-help forums over the past few months; i've updated my audio and video drivers, I've parked and unparked CPUs, i've allocated a game to a specific CPU, i've reinstalled directx, i've made sure windows updates are all up to date, i've checked the temperature of my PC, etc.

Does anybody have ANY idea what might be causing this? I've never updated my BIOS because I can't find out how to do it, where to do it, or even if to do it. I got the PC second hand a year ago.

I get used to it after a while, but when my boyfriend is at work I play on his PC, and then coming back to mine in the evening just annoys me!

Hey everyone!
I'm new here so sorry if this is the wrong section or something. Basically I'm having stuttering issues within some games. I noticed this when I first installed Mirrors edge. Every 10 seconds or so the game will freeze for half a second. It gets worse as I play on and is eventually happening every few seconds. I thought it was a problem with this game alone until I downloaded Dead Space 3 and the same thing happened.

Here are my main specs:
Intel i7 2600
Gigabyte GTX 580
8gb of RAM
Gigabyte z68-xp-ud3

If anybody could suggest some ways to fix this that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Hi I'm having an annoying issue with some games with stuttering when my system seems to be more than capable of running them. Here are some of the games that have this issue whilst playing them: Crysis , Metro last light , Red faction guerilla (<--very rarely stutters) Deus ex human revolution , BF4 , Watch dogs and world of tanks.

Yes I understand that some of those games are old and It also could be because of in-game loading but its strange because it is not happening to anyone else and I have tried nearly everything to fix this issue (I play these games on a gaming laptop with a mobile GPU etc...) but It still persists so Is there any solutions and reasons to why this happens and is there anything I could turn down in the video menu of these games at could be causing them to stutter? Here are my main specs

CPU: i7 4700MQ
GPU: Geforce GTX 765M
RAM: 8GB

Running these games on a gaming laptop (with no SSD if that has anything to do with it) and hope to get this fixed. Thanks

I have recently encountered the same problem on my computer as of yesterday. Playing ESO i used to play on high settings no problems, now am on medium and it stuttering with my fps still at 80-100.

Was playing yesterday my keyboard starting being glitchy, restarted computer and keystrokes would not read but other things like caps lock would. I restored to factory settings using on screen keyboard, then when windows reloaded I could not even put keystrokes in to enter my computer name for setup. Magically it worked out of the blue out of many restarts etc. I have now reset to factory settings, cleared ram, disabled fw, ran superantispyware and clear, nothing running in background, drivers are up to date.

No idea what is going on, any help would be awesome. Seems the stutter gets worse the longer i play.

Sounds like a hardware or heat related issue. My first thought would be the power supply.

You should be able to check the voltages in the BIOS (unless Dell locked that page).

Hi everyone, I am newbie here. Recently I need to upgrade my ram on XPS8700. And I went to Best Buy and bought a "PNY - 2-Pack 8GB PC3-12800 DDR3 DIMM Unbuffered Non-ECC Desktop Memory Kit". It does not work, computer can not power on with flashing orange lights.
So I went to Crucial website, it recommends me to use a DDR3L RAM. I saw all the DDR3Ls are for laptops. Could it be used in my desktop? And my current RAM is Hyundai. Could it be mixed with other brand like Crucial or Kingston?

Laptops first started using DDR3L which is why the market is flooded with it, however you just need to look for the desktop version for your computer.  If you go to crucial they should have an auto test that will detect the correct ram for your machine and give you the list of options you can pick from.

Like a lot of folks, I bought a new video card (GTX 960) only to find the PSU insufficient to boot up and run the machine.
I had a Rosewill 870W PSU but it's far too large for the XPS 8700 case, it bumps against the DVD/Blu Ray drive so I bought a new one. A Corsair 750.

Hi guys,

First of all merry christmas

I have a weird issue where when I play games my computer, including audio and video, sometimes hangs for 1 second and then resumes again. This seems to happen in every game I play and it's very frustrating.

I checked my processes and I do have a 'System interrupts' process that sometimes pops up. I run Windows 8.1 , have 8GB ram, and use a GTX680 with the latest nvidia drivers.

Attached you can find my DXDIAG report.

I ran CCleaner and also did some virus scans, but no luck.

Any thoughts guys?

A:Stuttering while playing games

well be a scientist and start experimenting!! come on man..

1. turn off all sound in game.. run game. does it stutter?

2. disable sound in your actual windows 8.1 - go into device manager etc.. then run game.. stutter????!!

3. when running a game, (if it doesn't crash it) press shift, ctrl, and ESC. Look for whats using hard drive and look through performance for any % like disk usage..

4. what games are stuttering?

i mean your problem is so in-general (lag in games) its so hard to determine where to start.. but yeah, drivers are a must..

video drivers, hard drive updates, windows updates, sound driver update a huge one....

but if your sound and video hangs.. its hard drive or memory trying to sort it out..

you usually should run games in a clean environment meaning you disabled all services and background apps you aren't using because you are playing a game.. and when you restart your computer all your services will come back anyway..

if you dont know how to do this post here again..

Nothing has been overclocked. It is all brand new from the boxes.

The problem I'm having is a Framerate Stutter/Slowdown. It happens on all DirectX and OpenGL games I have tried, on even the lowest quality settings (X3:TC, RA3, rFactor, GPBikes, TDU, PES2009, Trainz06, ArmA, BF2, FS:X). What happens is, the game will run great (40fps+) for anything from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, then for about 6 seconds it will drop to single figures, before running great again for another 30 seconds to 2 minutes or so. This is very annoying!

I've tried everything I can think of to fix it. I have the AMD Dual Core Optimizer installed, Microsoft Update KB896256 andAMD Processor Driver Version 1.3.2.0053. I have tried several different versions of the nForce drivers, as well as the GeForce drivers.

I don't think it's a graphics card issue though, as I took the 9800gt out, and put it into an older system, and it runs great there. I also put a ATI X1950 pro into this new system, and it does exactly the same thing (random stuttering, though with a lower starting framerate an... Read more

Hello,

I've been getting stuttering in games ever since I got my new GTX 960 4Gb and installed it. Regardless of whether it's 30fps or 120fps, I get a tiny pause every second or so, very noticable while in motion. Here's a list of what I've tried/observations I've made so far:

- I tried wiping the drivers clean in safe mode and reinstalling, didn't help.
- Tried rolling back to an older version of drivers, no dice.
- Ran a mem test, no problems found.
- Put my older card, a GTX 750 Ti back in, still happening (what the hell?)

- Disk usage while playing games is very minimal, not maxing out.
- CPU does max out while playing games, maybe a bottleneck?
- With the GTX 960 in, I noticed it rarely goes above 50% gpu usage during gameplay.

Any help you can offer is appreciated! Thanks!

Hello!
I've been having an issue with limited success. I recently bought a new laptop for gaming and noticed a really annoying bug that has surfaced.

Laptop Stats:
CPU: Intel Core i7 Processor 720QM (1.6Ghz, 6MB, L3 Cache)
Card: ATI Radeon HD 5850 1 Gig
Ram: 8 GB Ram
HDD: 2x500 Gig Western Digital Hard drives

The issue is that in games, when something new would happen, the computer would freeze and the
sound would stutter for 1-5 seconds. So of course if I played LONG enough it would go away, but once I started the game again the issue would come up. I found that downloading CrystalDiskInfo and disabling APM fixed the issue for some games.

Games that I've had the issue: World of Warcraft, Counter-strike: Source, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress 2, Dragon Age, Last Scenario.

Games that I haven't had ONE issue with: Singularity, Dragon Age 2.

Now World of Warcraft was resolved due to Disabling APM.

Here is a list of things that I've tried:

- Updated all Drivers
- Used CrystalDiskMark on both Hard drives (Will post data)
- Ran EventViewer and noticed that when there was a stutter the Hardrive Spiked for the time of the freeze.
- Played with the APM
-Uninstalled the SATA AHCI Controller
-CheckDisk on both drives, no errors.

What makes me think it's a Hard Drive issue (or possibly a Driver issue) is because whenever the freeze happens the Hard drive light is on the entire time. I have two hard drives, all the games (save one) are installed th... Read more

Hey all, I've run into a few problems here. I'm an avid player of Neverwinter Nights, EverQuest, and EQ2. And recently I've hit some... issues.

Two nights ago on EQ2, I was running through a zone, when my screen blipped. it froze for about five seconds, flickered black just before un-freezing, and my toon's pet would be a few yards ahead. Well I figured it was just some weird game glitch or lag or something, since the zone in question isn't exactly well-known for its stability. So I log out and reboot.

I can't even get into the game. It halts at the character select, and the opening screen resembles what I can best describe as "polygon explosion". Just a mass of color and triangles. I bluescreen after a while, it tells me that an error involving nv4_disp.dll resulted in an infinite loop.

So the next thing I do after I reboot is run avg, it finds nothing out of the ordinary, then I run ad-aware and spybot, both of whom just pick up your every day "you've won a million dollars!" type spyware. So I shrug and fire up WMP to enjoy some music. Well I have the visualization active on WMP, and... well, same thing that was happening in the game, only five times worse, flickering, stuttering, freezing on and off. I eventually wrestled it to the ground, uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and slapped a new skin on that works just fine. I then went to nvidia.com and downloaded / installed the 77.77 drivers.
My pc specs:
i7 4770
GTX 645

Hello all,
I am an owner of a brand new Dell XPS 8700 with an i7 4970 CPU.Out of the box this computer is pretty darn quick but I wanted just a bit more in a smaller form factor.I have a GTX 980 and an i7 4790k CPU from another machine and wanted to see if this machine would support the upgrade without gutting it.I also took a stab at adding an ASETEK 545LC (92mm) cooler to the mix to keep things in check.Last but not least, I also added a 250GB Samsung mSATA card. Early reports indicated you needed the extreme edition to see beyond 32GB cards (???)
I searched high and low on the interwebs and didnt get much in returns of success.
So for those of you looking to squeeze a bit more out of your machines without upgrading PSU, motherboard...then I hope this helps.
-Upgraded to i7 4790k (10% increase over the stock 4790)-GTX 980 (using stock 460w PSU)-Added 92mm liquid cooling (Asetek 545LC - $97 on ebay)-Replaced 92mm chassis fan with CoolerMaster 92mm 4-pin PWM fan.-Added 250GB mSATA drive.
Notes:
- Stress testing CPU returns temp of 68C.-CPU pump runs off the 3pin chassis fan header and the rear fan is driven from the 4pin CPU fan.-Upon putting the 4790k in, BIOS  (A11) now has a similar OC feature like alienware OC lvl 1, OC lvl2.

Hello,
so I want to upgrade my current CPU to a i7 7700K inside my XPS 8700, but I was wondering is it still possible and will work just fine? I haven't seen anyone do a 8700 upgrade with a i7 7700k, and was wondering if the mobo is even compatible with the 7700k. Haha I am a PCNewbie, and don't want to make any mistake. If not possible, shall I upgrade the motherboard? But however if it does work, will I need to upgrade my Dell 460w PSU? If so, can you link me any good models I should go for?
Also, I look to do some video editing/rendering, and is 12gb fine for that? 16 is what people say is good, however is it really a big difference?

Anyone wondering what model my XPS 8700 is, can't find the exact link or anything, but I know it had:

Hello people.I'm not tech savvy. So I can't really know about that PCI 2.0 or 3.0 stuff, or what PSU W my computer has.All I know, is that even though I love it, and it's never failed me, it's falling a little short now for some stuff, for instance: gaming. So, I was thinking a video card upgrade was in order, before I actually get to the point where I have to just get a new CPU. Right now, I can't afford it, so video upgrade sounds like the best option.Anyway, everything in the box is factory original. I know it's an i5 and it has 8GB of ram. A 1 TB drive. And it's still running win 8.1 64bits (I'm not convinced yet about Win 10).If I go to a place like amazon, I get overwhelmed with video card options, and it's just impossible to know what will actually work.I have read stuff about PSU, and PCI, that's why I mentioned it, but honestly, I wouldn't know what actually works.I'm  hoping to find something under $200, with (hopefully) 4GB of ram? I edit video and do 3d from time to time, and as mentioned above, game. Most of my work is in Photoshop and other design apps.I run dual monitors, so a dual display card would be awesome, hopefully in the same type of analog or digital connection (for balanced color display purposes).So... any ideas? I'm being very specific, but I think that's a good thing, right?Anyway, thanks for any help! I'm hoping I can get at least one more year out of this GREAT computer!I found th... Read more

I recently bought an Inspiron 9300. I am having problems running games on it because there is a lot of stuttering. Stuttering seems to happen more frequently when there is a lot of sound going on. It is so bad, that I can't play any of my games. I noticed that my video card and sound card are sharing the same IRQ. Could this be the cause of the stuttering? Also, in dxdiag, the test sound button gives me an error after testing the software buffers saying that my sound card does not support hardware buffering. My problem only occurs in games. Listening to mp3, or playing movies does not induce stuttering.

What I've tried so far:
- Updating to the latest Dell video and sound card drivers.
- Installling other video drivers like Xtreme-G.
- Flashing the bios to the most rercent version.
- Switching from "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" to "Standard PC". This one did not work because the PCI Express Root Port device was giving an error about not being able to free enough resources. Windows was not able to detect my video card because of this.
- Disabling hardware sound acceleration.

The only solution to the stuttering problem right now is to deactivate the sound card. Once I do this, the stuttering is gone in all of my games. I thought about purchasing a PCMCIA sound card but I heard that it didn't work with internal speakers.

I really need help on this one. I'm considering returning my laptop to Dell since I have three weeks to return it in case I&... Read more

What are your free resources, start/settings/control panel/system/performance tab, what is the percent free.

Have you tried using control alt delete to bring up taskmanager, end task on everyting except systray and explorer. does it still do it.

I recently just upgraded my Mobo/CPU as well as RAM/PSU. Only hardware I brought over to the new PC was my Hard Drive and Vid card. I'm having issues of certain games (Bioshock,Hellgate:London Demo, Dance Online) having major static/stuttering during all aspects of the games. Other games such as Team Fortress 2/Crysis Demo are not having the issues at all, and everything is perfect. I don't have a sound card, so I'm using onboard. Should I buy a sound card as well?

I'm wondering if this is a software issue with the games themselves, or if it is my system?

Hi there! This Saturday I received my new Ideapad 700 and I couldn't be more happy about it (just moved to the UK and didn't have a laptop/pc for 3 weeks) but there seems to be an issue I just can't resolve. Let's get to the problem :  The first thing I did was to make sure that all my drivers were up to date and all the necessary updates were done. After that I proceeded to download Smite to test out how this entry level gaming machine was performing in a relatively light game. After booting it up and making sure that all the settings were set to max I tried playing a practice match against bots to see if there are any issues. At first everything was perfect, getting 85 FPS+ and very happy about it, but then I noticed random stuttering. What seems to be causing it are new "new" icons on the screen. For instance when I open up the shop menu,or when an enemy is being killed my screen just freezes sometimes for 0.5 seconds and sometimes for even more than 1. At first I thought that this was internet lag but then, after installing Portal (yes, the 2007 Portal) to see if either my internet connection or the graphics were causing it I noticed the same thing when something "new" was happening.  Solutions I've tried. Downloaded and installed every update for Windows. Uninstalled and reinstalled Nvidia drivers Set the Nvidia GPU as my main GPU on every game I've tried (Note that this is quite likely not the cause of the problem s... Hello,

I'm having some problems for about 3-4 weeks now.

Up until the first BSoD I could load two games at the same time and feel like nothing was wrong or slow. Now when I try to do this (for w/e reason), the 2nd game I start either freeze or loads but when I'm moving the mouse it stutters to 1fps movement, sound too. This happens in both games, exactly the same.

If I don't do anything, main menu animation, music runs just fine...

When I try running a game, for example CS:GO. It works fine a bit, then randomly freeze + loop sound and can't tab out. Only after I End Task the program it goes to normal, or so it seems. Then after I try to reenter the game, it freezes again and I get BSoD.

Another thing I found is, while a game is open and I'm tab out in firefox for example; scrolling, general movement of the browser is not fluid and has some stutter. It lags even when I try to drag something on desktop.

Ran multiple malware scans, even in parted magic (virus scaner) on flash drive boot, nothing of note was found.

Thought the problem was because of some part of the video driver, so I uninstalled it. Rebooted in Safe Mode and ran Display Driver Uninstaller to be sure nothing was left from the previous one, reinstalled the latest one and the problem still persisted. Reinstalled Windows with fresh drivers, same problem.
Unistalled .Net Framework rebooted, then unistalled ATI VDriver, rebooted. Did a windows update and it installed a fresh .Net, restarted and after that I in... Read more

Hello,

I've been scouring the web for a while now and haven't found the answer yet.

I'm running a Sony Vaio VPCEB laptop. I used this for gaming a year ago, and have started using it again. Now though, every few seconds while playing a game, the game will stutter or freeze for a couple seconds, then resume. It's made gaming impossible on the machine.

Using PC Wizard, it tells me my graphics hardware is the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD. This is no problem since all the games I play are old or emulated. I can't seem to find a driver for it either.

OS is Win7 x64. Any help you can offer would be great!

My son was planning to upgrade the GTX745 in his Dell XPS8700 to a new card. After checking online, we found that before installing the card we needed to upgrade the BIOS in the system from the current BIOS (A08) to a new BIOS (A11 for Win 10 systems). We ran the BIOS on the system from within Windows (removed all external connections except Keyboard and Mouse). The BIOS processed through the first few steps and then during the verify process the entire computer shuts down. Now, the computer will not POST at all. I will turn on and stay on for approximately 20 seconds before shutting down before starting the entire process over again. This computer has had zero issues for 2 years and now after installing Dell's BIOS upgrade the entire system is apparently fragged.
I pull the RAM out of the system and I do get an alert so at least there is some function going on. I have pulled the Nvidia card out of the system and am trying to get a signal off the onboard HDMI port. When I turn on the system I do get an acknowledgment that the monitor knows there is a source there. The monitor wakes from sleep briefly before going back into standby when it does not receive an actual signal in a timely manner
I know the chances of there being any fixes are slim but I thought I would check with the community and see if anyone has suggestions. I called Dell for kicks and after dealing with someone halfway around the world who obviously had no clue on how to help me, Dell told me t... Read more

Try clearing BIOS:

Power off and unplug
Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
Open case and remove motherboard battery
Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
Put everything back the way it was originally: reinstall OLD video card and reinstall all RAM
Check all cables and connections to make sure you didn't accidentally dislodge something when you removed the video card
Reinstall motherboard battery (right-side-up!) - good time for fresh CR2032 battery, ~$2 at discount stores
Close up and see if it boots with only mouse, monitor (connected to add-in video card) and keyboard connected

If it fails to boot with everything the way it was, you'll likely need a new motherboard...

Hello guys, so 2013 is my year of mini ITX gaming pc. I made a new config with the following spec:

MB: New coming Asus Maximus VI Impact
CPU: Intel i5 4670K
GPU: MSI TF GTX 760 OC
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 8G 1600
CPU cooler: Corsair H80i
PSU: Seasonic X serie 650
SSD: Samsung Pro 840 128G
HDD: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1T
Case: Bitfenix Prodigy white

So the installation was not easy, but I finally managed to install all carefully. I made a super clean windows 7 ultimate 64 bit installation and installed all driver correctly.

The cpu doesn't seem to be hot, since the temperature is around 28C idle, and 35-40C playing ultra settings games like Batman arkham city, diablo 3 and starcraft 2. The only problem is this annoying stuttering. It happens in Diablo 3 and arkham city. The game suffer from micro freeze every 20-30 sec, and this is very annoying for my gaming experience. The graphic settings are all maxed off in both game.

So what do you think about this issue and which component could be the source of the problem? Thank you very much in advance. Regards.

Need Help
My old laptop has been having a stuttering problem with games for a couple of years now. It?ll stutter for around five seconds, run smooth for around ten seconds, stutter again for five, run smooth for ten. It?ll keep doing that until I stop playing and close the game. It doesn?t start doing the stutter the second I start the game, it?ll start maybe around five minutes into the game and not quit its pattern. It doesn?t matter what game, how old it is, it does this to all.

It also does this while watching online videos. I can?t watch anything on, for example, Hulu, or Gametrailers, without it doing the same stutter pattern.

I didn?t always have this annoyance. It started little over a year after I bought my laptop. During all this time, while putting up with the problem, I?ve done several clean installs. I?ve tried to solve this myself, but never could find anyone with the same exact problem.

I?ve uploaded several videos that show the stutter problem:

Well, 761 MHz processor speed is way too slow for any modern games. You can check go to Start/Run and type chkdsk C: /R and press enter. The command prompt box appears, press Y and reboot the computer. The Check Disk Utility will check the integrity of the drive. You can also click on the PC Running Slow? link in my signature and try those things. Other then that, you need a faster computer.

Been researching this problem (stuttering or chugging lag) for last few days. Unfortuneately I can find nothing conclusive solution wise and am a complete newb when it comes to PC tech stuff. I know enough to get around on my PCs (have 2) and install and play games etc. But when it comes to techincal stuff I am lost. So I finally broke down and decided to try some posting....

Have 2 PCs, older one runs my usual games fine, no apparent lag or problems. Newer one (bit over a year old) seems to have had lag problems ever since I bought it. At first I just assumed the lag was zone lag on the game I was playing (Everquest - online mmorgp) possibly because I was running three instances of the game (multiboxing) and perhaps just didnt have enough ram, but as time went by I noticed that:
1) the lag stutters and chugs
2) is somewhat intermittant - appears and vanishes at seemingly random times for no apparent reason/s (usually the lag issue isn't as bad at night - or if I stay in a certain zone for long periods of time, frequent zoning seems to make it worse - neither of these appear to be very consistant)
3) seems to affect any online games I use on 2nd PC (and thus far that is all I use it for)
4) is present even while one instance of a game is running

While it doesn't actually stop me from what i'm doing it is very annoying, and i'm very tired of having to deal with it.
