I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

My old keyboard was refusing to re-initialize after the peripheral reset during win 7 boot. It's about a decade old, so I just assumed it was dead. I replaced it with my wireless keyboard I use for working on computers, Ms laser 8000. My keyboard now initializes fine, but shift L and Shift E are non functional. Sticky keys is off, along with all the other accessibility features. The keys work fine without shift pressed, and shift works with very other key.

I'm out of ideas, anyone have some?

On my Thinkpad Yoga S1, the keys t, y, backspace, enter, caplock, and left shift are suddenly not working. This seems to be a common problem on lenovo computers, but the lenovo forum administrator closed the only thread that attempted to address this without any solution. The lenovo admin said that too many diferent models were involved. I don't understand why these exact specific keys are affected on so many Lenovo models. Lenovo has no solution, and will not support a thread to work towards one. The Microsoft store already replaced my keyboard under warrenty over a year ago, but the YTP S1 is now out of warrenty. This does not seem to be a hardware problem given the relatively recent Keyboard replacement. Does anyone have any suggestions? I wont buy another Lenovo if this problem cant be solved. I've had tremndous problems with this computer and have found Lenovo to be unhelpful/unresponsive. This was an expensive computer when it was purchased.

I have a strange problem that just started today. I have Win 7 Home Premium 64bit and a Saitek Cyborg Keyboard V7 (KU-0728). When using the left shift key to press the 9 key to get a left parentheses [(] I get nothing. The left shift key works for all other keys and I can access [(] by using the right shift key. I'm leaning towards not a hardware issue due to the fact that the left shift works on other keys and the 9 key works with the right shift key. Could it be a driver issue? I've done some searching but can't relly find anything on this issue. Seems kind of wierd that the left shift would not work with only one key. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You in advance,
CaddyGuy

Hi All,I sent my laptop in for repair because the left shift key was sticking.  7025187370 is my Service Order Number. I received an email from Jason that works for Flex for permission to replace my harddrive. I asked why and got no response, but said yes anyways because I use this laptop for work. Remember all I had was a keyboard issue. I received the laptop back, keyboard was still the same. I spoke with support and asked them what they written in their notes for the diagnostics. He said, "keyboard cable is loose and replaced ssd is faulty (no reason). When I called in and told them that I was not able to run my virtual machines (I upgraded to to Windows 10 Pro to use the Hyper-V feature), they told me it was a software issue. They also said that they replaced the harddrive with the same model as I got it from Best Buy in DEC 2016. I tested my VM's that I backed up on the original HD onto a seperate machine and they work fine. I've had by S510p for about two years.  Running Windows 10. The shift key started being erratic this afternoon.  When holding the shift key, sometimes typing letters or characters works and sometimes not.  When it doesn't work, it's simply a case of nothing showing up on the page.  It may work 5 times in a row, but then not work a few times.  This is particularly problematic for typing in passwords.  It doesn't seem to always be in conjunction with any specific keys (sometimes a capital I or an ! works, and sometimes it doesn't).  Any suggestions?

Hello everyone. I have Toshiba Qosmio X300-14Y. I have installed vista 64-bit on it and installed only the drivers I needed. I've also installed the 64-bit bios which I've downloaded from the toshiba website, for my laptop. Now everything works fine except one thing. This laptop is a gamers laptop (you might say a gamer should not prefer a laptop but the things worked this way), and as you know, when you use a scoping rifle you might feel to use left shift -> steady rifle + A -> going left + Q->leaning left. The problem is, when I use this combination, the key "A" doesn't work. I tried the same combination in notepad and it doesn't work neither. The weird thing is, if I use the right shift+A+Q -> it works, left shift+E+D -> it works. To summarise, only this combination doesn't work, if I change a key, it works. As I said it's not caused by the game because I tried it in notepad; when I pres left shift+E+D -> it types first capital E then capital D, but when I press left shift+Q+A -> it only types capital Q. But the situation is different with right shift, it types what it is supposed to type. I'ld be glad if you help. Thank You

A week ago, I think, some of my keys stopped working.
That included the Fn key combined with some other keys and shift key with capital "M", "?"(scandinavian letter) and "L".
If I want to use those keys I have to put the keyboard on Caps Lock, and that is getting tiresome...
The Fn key works on some of the keys, but only for sleep mode and the brightness control.

I haven't spilled anything on the keyboard, and when I try to use the screen keyboard, it doesn't work either...

Is there anyone here who can help me with this?

I looked through the threads with similar problems, but I couldn't find anything that helped.

Thanks in advance!

A:Problem with my shift keys

To my knowledge these keys work on a grid, so if several of them go out at once you can be sure you've knocked out that section. I could be wrong, but I would suggest pulling up those keys, including the space bar, and looking for nasty bits of food and the like to carefully remove. Note: They have many brittle bits that make it difficult to deal with. These things are built so incredibly cheap, that it is often more sound to replace them entirely.

You can replace this keyboard for about 20 USD if you look hard enough and the installation is remarkably easy, all in my humble opinion.

EDIT: I'll add that when dealing with laptops, you may want to consider keeping a spare USB keyboard around, just in case.

I have ASUS K61IC. Win 7. Bought less than one month ago.

My shift keys, both left and right, are rarely working. When I hold shift key and type, nothing happens, but when I release shift key, everything I type comes out, but not uppercase, but lowercase.

Non-alphabetical characters are typed normally, I can type any special character without any problems.

When I keep caps lock on, most of letters is upper case, but some are lower case.

Sticky and other keys are turned off, skype shortcuts are disabled... Sometimes computer is blocked for a few seconds and then text typed in the meantime just comes out without any order.

My win wasn't activated for a few days after the time limit expired, now I reactivated it and the problem is still there. I thought maybe win7 blocks shift keys for alphabetical chars as a means to make people use original, paid software.

Is this a problem like some I found on this forum, which are solved by taking laptop to the dealer, under warranty? Or it is a problem which can be solved by myself? Maybe it is a virus?

I have HP Presario CQ42 173 TU laptop with windows 7 OS. This problem started few days back. Both my Shift keys started malfunctioning. my Sticky keys are not on. When I use the shift key sometime it works and some time not for ex: when I press shift+A at first the letter remains Small but when I press second time it turns to capital letter and also I observed that it works with some keys not with all. QWERTYUIOPASDFGHJKLzxcvBNm you can see that the shift key not worked with ZXCV&M and it is with both the shift keys not one. can anyone tell me what can be the problem.

A:Both the Shift keys malfunctioning

The obvious and most likely problem is the keyboard is defective. I would consider replacing the keyboard. If the PC is still in warranty, contact HP. If not its a little bit of a job but the keyboard can be user replaced.

So here is the situation, everything seems to be working fine at first on my laptop keyboard as it has for about 6 months. However recently my down key broke, so I got a program that allows you to remap keys to other keys. So I remapped my down to key to my page down key, which is very close to it and it was working fine for a day.

But now I find that 2 keyboard commands don't work. When I am holding left shift the right arrow key doesn't work, and when I'm holding left control the left arrow key doesn't work. I'm not sure if it's related to the program I downloaded and I don't think it is but I thought I'd mention it. I've fought with google search results and my computer for 2 hrs and this is frustrating. Never had this problem before. Individualy each key still works fine, but LSHIFT + --> Doesnt work and LCTRL + <-- doesn't either. THIS SUCKs. Please help

I was playing a game that required me to press and hold Shift + W + D and not only did it not respond but i got a beep (from speakers not internal)
It turns out that this (along with a few other combos) will cause this beep no matter what i am doing. even if i'm just on the desktop.
I've watched my running programs ( in task manager) for responses to these commands and the only program that seems to react to it is those that deal with outputing the audio.
the combo of keys is left CTRL or left SHIFT + any key in the second row from TAB to Y in combo with the key down and to my right of it E.G left SHIFT + W+D
The predictable pattern makes me thing it is a bug(or unfinished listener) in something, my first though is keyboard drivers.
I'm running Windows 7 x64 on an AMD processor. Keyboard is an old Ps/2 Emachines. Video card is ATI HD 4850.
Anyone know what could be causing this?

Hello. I've just moved over from a mac to a pc to play games. One of the things I am trying to do is bind abilities in my game to Shift-numpad keys. Unfortunately the computer already has these mapped to a large set of default functions such arrow keys and page up / page down and shift-5 does nothing at all. Is there anyway to unbind these default functions so that the shift-numpad does nothing but register as a key press? (I'm using a multi button mouse to register the numpad)
Any help is appreciated.

As the title says, the shift keys on my laptop stopped working. I turned on my laptop and thats all - they weren't working anymore. I did the keyboard check but nothing...

A:Shift keys on my laptop don't work

"Keyboard check" you mean a clean check? Make sure it looks clean, you can use alcohol swabs 'isopropal alcohol' 70% is okay but the more isopropal alcohol the better it cleans. Spills can cause a key to short out and most likely result in buying a new keyboard. Roaming pets can accidently doing a 'bad thing' over a keyboard and noone would even think of it. One thing you can check and see is if there are any warning signs or yellow symbols in device manager. This indicates that your OS is having trouble reconizing this device. However, you can try an external USB keyboard and see if that replicates the issue. In the mean time you can run the On Screen Keyboard ( Press the <windows key> and <R> at the same time to bring up the run command, type <osk> and press <enter>). Hmm... another thing you can try... initialize the 'sfc /scannow' in a command prompt. This will replace any missing files. Hope something works out for you. I'll be here if you need more assistance and information.

Okay, I've had this problem for almost a month now and I've yet to find a solution.

When I'm running certain program, my computer seems to think that the shift and ctrl keys are in a pressed position even though they're not. I didn't realize it until I was trying to configure my tablet buttons to keyboard commands and the input box said that I was pressing the ctrl and shift keys. This also occurs when I'm playing fullscreen games or using flash. Otherwise, its fine, I haven't had any problems with other applications.

I know this is not sticky keys because I don't even have that option on my computer, and its not my keyboard as it works fine most of the time, its only with some programs that it occurs. Could anyone help me

Hi. I browsed some other threads concerning this problem, but none of those solutions has worked for me. The problem affects only the letters z,x,c,v, and the numbers 1,2,3,4,7,8,9,0. I can't make an uppercase version of those characters. When i launched the on-screen keyboard, I see the shift keys lighting up when I touch them, so it isn't a matter of physical damage to the keys... I went into the device manager and uninstalled all the keyboard drivers there - at least I think I did... and they just came back with the same problem... And i plugged in a Logitech keyboard and its drivers worked just fine. So short of wiping the entire drive with a fresh install of Win7, what can i do? I had to use the onscreen keyboard just to type the question mark. Thank

my left and right shift keys are no longer working correctly. i didn't spill any water or anything on my keyboard. it just stopped working overnight. my keyboard is a logitech elite keyboard with a ps2 adapter. i've tried switching it to usb and the problem is still there.

my left shift just doesn't respond anymore. nothing happens when i press it.

my right shift key, however, does weird things when pressed multiple times. it seems to be doing things like pressing enter and other combinations.

the above mbmz thing is an example of what it did when i pressed it a few times. it also somehow did the keyboard shortcut for back on my browser.

so i'm not sure what to do. i've cleaned the keys and it's still giving me this problem. i also installed the logitech software for my keyboard but it didn't really do anything.i've also verified that it is a problem with the keyboard and not with my computer. i plugged in an old keyboard and it works fine. is it time to buy a new keyboard/

thanks
