Strange lines with Lenovo Yoga 720 15 Inch and Active Pen 2

Q: Strange lines with Lenovo Yoga 720 15 Inch and Active Pen 2

Hello folks, so far I really like the Yoga 720 but I have this really strange problem when I'm drawing on the screen. Every time I draw slowly (and sometimes even when I draw quickly) my lines become jittery and not in the wobbly sense. More in the "leaving-the-road" kind of way. Here is a video proof of my issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyrS63BTJ6AI really want to use this tablet for drawing but this annoys the hell out of me. Is this normal? Is it a driver problem?I already uninstalled and reinstalled the Wacom Pen Driver and I checked the box "Ignore touch input when I'm using pen" in the Windows Ink menu.I'm having the 1080p HD Model of the Yoga 720 15 Inch with the 256 gb SSD. The pen I'm using is the active Pen 2 which feels really nice with the rubber tip. I used all kinds of applications like Photoshop, Sketchbook Pro, Windows Ink sketch, Sketchable and so on. I have the same problem in all of them. Can anyone please help me? I really like this tablet. Greetings

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

UNIT SPECS: -i5, 8th gen U-gtx 1050 GPU-8 GB RAM-1080p IPS display-256 GB of storage-90 Watt AC Adapter I know that this has another thread, but it'd marked as "solved", whereas the issue has not been solved at all.  So, the basics of the issue: CPU runs fine during normal use and when stress testing on XTU, but then immediately downclocks itself to between .4 and .8 Ghz when the NVidia 1050 is active.  During games or benchmarking (used UnEngine Valley), this results in a drop to 10-25 fps on average.  CPU power drops by about 75% and bottlenecks the GPU so that it can only perform around 30-50%.If you exit out of the app's window, the GPU will not be in use and the CPU will gradually clock itself back up to normal levels.Another user pointed out a workaround where you can disable Intel Thermal Framework to reduce the issue.  The problem is that ITF exists for a reason and disabling it increases heat, reduces battery life, and can damage your PC.  Theoretically it could also void warranty if any damage resulted from disabling the feature. No thermal throttling is occurring, which makes it odd that ITF would be strangling the processor.  Even if that were an issue, it could just lower the CPU to its base clock (not below) and temps would be fine. This probably some issue caused by acombination of Lenovo's BIOS interacting with ITF, but it could also be hardware related.   The takeaway is that you can't use the device'... I just bought 2 11.6-inch Lenovo Yoga Laptops a week ago from Amazon. From the moment I turned them on I noticed something very strange, one of the two really got very, very hot on the bottom. So hot that really if you had it on your lap it burned you, it's crazy. It is new fresh from the box, this is not normal. Do I have to return it directly or can something be done? Thx

I've got a Yoga 700 11.6 inch, windows 10, 128 gb HDD and 8gb memory. Testing it and playing games I can see the computer is not performing to specs. I did a fresh re-install of Windows because I hated all the Lenovo apps added to it. Sadly I was still unable to install the Intel version of the graphics driver. but whatever, I have the Lenovo version. Still, benchmarks tell me this is performing well below the specs even for the Intel HD 515. I have everything set to 'high performance'. I've been told there's some BIOS settings I could change but frankly I haven't seen them. Is my computer being throttled, and if so how can I fix it?

Hi, I have recently purchased the Yoga 710 (14 inch) and am looking to use the SD card slot as additional storage. As I would like the SD card to protrude as little as possible, I would like to know what the depth of the SD card reader is, so that I can accordingly buy an appropriately sized SD card or SD card adaptor. Thank you!

hello there fellow Yoga 710 users,  one of the reasons why i picked up this Yoga 710 is because of its 'above average' battery life to compare with its competitor. this is based on reviews that i read and watch on youtube.  however, after using it for a few days, i dont think i was able to hit 7 hours or more on this machine. i did not put it under extreme load as i was using it only for word processing etc.  from the battery notification, it says around 4 hours and 40 minutes at 100 percent.  any of you guys encounter the same problem? or you guys were able to hit 7 hours or more for the battery life? just want to make sure that my battery is not draining for no reason appreciate your input guys  thanks

Hey all,  I recently bought a Lenovo Yoga 720 15-inch 4k and love it! Unfortunately, it was stolen in Mexico and I had to buy a new one upon returning to the States.  One of the first things I changed when I got my first 720 was the screen brightness. I switched off the "Adaptive Brightness" setting in System > Display settings and that seemed to make my screen nice and bright white.  Now, on my second computer, even at 100% brightness and with the Adaptive Brightness switched off, the screen looks much dimmer and not as crisp white.  Any thoughts on what might be going on? Thanks! Dave

Hi , I have an Yoga 720 - 15 inch FHD , i7 ,8 GB , GTX 1050 4 GB , which came with the Active Pen 2 in the package .   I am an digital artist , and as i was painting , i always got some random shaking lines from time to time.   At first i was thinking that i touch my palm with the screen and it doesn't know what to do , so i got a glove to prevent the display to read my palm input .   The problem persisted , then i tried other painting software , the problem still there .    I tried to delete and update the pen driver , and it has still no impact ,    I don't really know what to do , it is very annoying . I'll attach a photo of some diagonal , vertical and horizontal lines , i did them very slowly , thats why there's jitter , but as you can see, the line is jumping like it's a heartbeat sensor.    If anyone can help , i appreciate , thank you .

Greetings, I just bought Lenovo Yoga 330. It's been great, but i have one strange problem. When I wake the laptop from sleep, the CPU clock is stuck on 1.1 GHz (Which is its base clock). It won't go to turbo clock which is supposedly 2.6 GHz. The only solution i know is to reboot the windows, and the cpu clock is normal again.I know with ssd rebooting is fast, but still you need to wait some programs to start up. I'm a teacher, there are no breaks between my classes, i really need sleep mode to quickly use my laptop between classes.I know programs such Throttlestop from techpowerup can set the CPU to static 2.6 GHz, but it's not good for battery life. I need the dynamic clock, so the clock will low if the usage is low, and the clock will throttle up if the usage is higher.I am using windows 10 64 bit which was preinstalled during purchase. All the drivers are up to date, the BIOS also is the latest. I am wondering if lenovo team is already address this problem, i really hope they will release new BIOS soon. Sorry for my english, it's not my primary language.

Hello everyone I was wondering if anyone knows whether the Lenovo Active Pen is also compatible with the yoga 920, or whether only the Lenovo Active Pen 2 works. Moreover, I was wondering if the Lenovo Active Pen also looses contact when writing if you hold the pen close to the nub. Thanks! for your help

A:Lenovo yoga 920 compatible with Lenovo active pen

Hi huQbbTCi,

Greetings.

Lenovo active pen 1 is also compatible with Yoga 920 as shown in the accessories search tool here PART # GX80K32884. It would be less sensitive to depth perception but with palm rejection enabled then you may not have the same issue on losing contact with it.

It would also be favorable to have it tried first before any purchase specially if you have someone that have it and compare it with other active pens whichever would be comfortable and efficient to your writing style.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Hi, I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro (type 80AY, BY05331786) laptop. A week ago I bought the Lenovo Active Pen (Not the Active Pen 2).  I have trouble connecting the pen with my laptop. It does not connect to it nor does it even notice it. I activated the bluetooth on the laptop, tried updating the drivers... you name it. Even bought 2 different batteries, just to test if the pen even works. I tried installing some software that I found on the Windows store, but it is for the ActivePen2. Unfortunately i did not found any possible way to even know if the pen works or not. Any ideas?

Hey Guys I'm rather confused about the pen support for the new Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15. I've read quite a bit about it and find the information quite inconsistent. Some say it does support active pen some say it will in april and some say it doesn't. What I would like to know:A.) What kind of pen technology does the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15 support atm?B.) Are there any changes in sight? / When? / What changes?C.) Can I write on it while resting my hand on the screen aka has it palm rejection?D.) How good is it for note taking? Can it keep up with my writing speed? Links to videos where I can actually see it being used / tested would be greatly appreciated.

A:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 15 Active Pen

From what I know there isn't too much information out so far. But here's what I found out. First off, the current Thinkpad Yoga 14 and 15 don't support pen digitizers at all, and will not in the future.Secondly, the Toshiba Encore 2 Write apparently uses the same technology. See this thread. Here's what I know:- It's called Wacom "Active ES" as in Active Electro Static.- It's battery powered. Unlike Wacom's older technology, you need a battery in the pen.- Palm rejection is more of a driver thing and not the technology. So it works, basically.- People say it feels "different", not sure if that means better or worse.- Precision is apparently very good, perhaps even better than the older tech without battery.- Pen lag (speed) doesn't seem to be an issue. Might even be better than the older technology. Other than that I personally couldn't find any information about whatever will be built into the Thinkpad Yoga 14 and 15 Only that they call it "Active Pen" and that it will be out in April. Also that the displays will support something called "anypen" which basically means you can use any pen-shaped metal object to write on the display. But that isn't really of any interest to me because I want pressure sensitivity.

I just purchased this 2 in 1 with the Active Pen, and cannot get it to work with the drivers that Lenovo specifies, and I have also tried several different drivers from Wacom.  The Pen will pair with Bluetooth, but will not stay connected.  The batteries are all in correctly, but the pen will not stay connected or activate anything on screen.  Also, I am not able to get the touch screen to work either, so I am wondering if there is an issue with the digitizer, or that it may be missing drivers for the touchscreen and digitizer.  Does anyone have any ideas what could solve this issue?

Someone can help me to identify this issue. What is it?###Description of the issue:* Eventually pop up white horizontal lines. Especially when you stretching the screen.* Sometimes screen stay freeze when the horizontal lines show up, as in the video. Thanks for reading.*Additional notes*:* I saw the lines in the BIOS setup.* I tried a preview of a linux OS, I saw the lines too. The two things above indicate that isn't a software problem.

I would not be surprised if this is completely operator error - I've never used a stylus / pen for a computer before.  I just received my Yoga 920, along with an Active Pen 2.  I was able to sync the pen to the bluetooth, and double clicking the top button brings up the screen sketch application, but I cannot otherwise get the pen to work.  I can write in the screen sketch with my finger, but the pen does nothing.  Is there a driver or application I need?  On the instructions I found here:https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/options/lenovo_active_pen2_qsg_v2.0_201705.pdfIt says "to customize the button functions use Wacom pen application" so I downloaded that from online.  It doesn't recognize that my pen is linked, even though the bluetooth menu says it is, and upon further reading on the Wacom app site, it does not appear that the Active Pen 2 is supported. Is there something I'm missing or not doing correctly?  I don't see any similar problem in these forums, at least not specific to the yoga 920.

Hi,  I was a happy user of Lenovo Active Pen 2, but recently it has stopped working. By this, I mean that it does not produce any reaction from the touch screen when I tap the screen with it, although successfully connected to the laptop as the Bluetooth device. I have checked and re-installed the drivers and the software (Lenovo Pen Settings). I have also tried to replace the battery twice, and that seemed a right thing to do, at first: for several seconds after the replacement, the pen was working, indeed. Suddenly, the screen would stop reacting to the pen clicks and touches and would never react anymore. As I mentioned, I have observed the similar behaviour twice.  I would be very glad to get any assistance except for the most obivous advice like "Please double-check the drivers and the device batteries". Thanks a lot.

Hi, can someone confirm that all Yoga 720 models work with a Lenovo Active Pen? The only model that's sold with a pen is $600 more expensive than the next most expensive model (with basically the same spec minus the pen). Given that a pen isn't anywhere near $600, it gives me concern that the rest of the models (without an included pen) won't work with a pen that could be purchased separately. Thanks.

Hello, I just bought a Lenovo yoga 520 from a local retailer yesterday. It came with the Lenovo Active Pen. I tried to draw on Paint Tool SAI at night and I would just like to ask if it is normal that the tablet screen register my pinky (since it touches the screen first before the pen tip) before the actual pen? It is a bit distruptive when i am drawing because it will create a stroke by my pinky which I do not want. This morning when I tried to draw again, the pen to have some odd behavior. If I do a quick stroke/flick and lift my pen away from the screen, the stroke will not follow through and the screen is temporarily disabled and does not respond to mouse clicks or hand touches (as if I did not lift the pen up at all.) I have to tap the screen again with my pen and the stroke will connect to where I tapped. This issue does not happen when I wear a piece of cloth on my palm or if I draw the stroke slowly and life it up slowly. So I would just like to ask:1. If I buy a Bamboo styus (which I am aware is compatible with Yoga 520,) will I be able to draw faster strokes with smoother follow through?2. Is this a normal problem faced by fellow artists too?
