Embedded Excel Object flipped when opened in Word XP

Q: Embedded Excel Object flipped when opened in Word XP

Q: Has anyone seen this problem and is there a patch or setting for Word XP that fixes it?

We have a document created in Word 97 with an embedded Excel Spreadhseet object displaying a chart.

When we open the document in Word 97, everything is normal.

When we open the document in Word XP the chart is rotated 180 degrees around the vertical axis. The chart is right side up, but the left side of the chart is on the right and all the letters are reversed.

When I double-click the object to edit it the chart flips around to normal. When I exit edit mode (without making any changes) it flips back.

When we convert the Excel Worksheet object to an Excel Chart object in Word 97, save the file, and open in Word XP the chart displays normally.

The problem is that we have an automated PDF converter that uses Word XP, so when we create the PDF, it is created with the reversed chart. We are not staffed to open every Word 97 document and convert spreadsheets to charts. How can we fix this without installing Word 97 on the converter?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi ,
I am having a problem with a embedded object in a word document.i actually wanted to embedd a .ini file(a text file).I embedded this object by choosing INSERT->OBJECT->'create from file tab' option and with the checkbox 'display as icon' enabled. When i tried opening this object and use the 'file save
as ' option ,the title bar displayed 'Pkg20-Notepad' instead of original filename. If this is a feature restriction ,is there a option to specify the name of the original file(object embedded inside word) to be present as default option in the 'file save as ' dialog box, instead of *.*
Any help will be great.

I've got three Word 97 files, each with an Excel spreadheet in the top 2/3 of the page, with the rest of the page being regular Word text. THe font being displayed in the Excel portion appears crunched together, larger, and bolded. When I select the cells to edit it they are all set at Arial 10 pt. It looks fine when working in the cells, but as soon as I click out of that Excel frame the font reverts to the mess I first described.

Is this something that I must live with or is there a setting somewhere that is causing this conversion?

I embedded an Excel Bar Chart in an MS Word doc (both Word & Excel are 2003 versions) - I placed a second bar chart in the MS document as a picture. Both charts have a parchment color for the plot area - and red colored bars. When I click on 'print preview' in the Word doc the plot color shows as parchment. However, when I print the Word doc the plot area prints as grey (although the red bars print as red). I've tried everything I can think of but the plot area still prints grey. {If I print the charts from Excel where they were created the color prints fine - parchment background.)

Any ideas? THANKS

I am inserting a spreadsheet into a word document (not linked) using a custom VB6 application (ActiveDocument.Shapes.AddOLEObject...). After I insert the spreadsheet I would like to be able to reference it as an object so I can add/delete rows, set cell values, etc. Can this be done? Any references to code examples using VB or VBA would be appreciated.

I have a MS-Word document (Office 2000) which has some embedded spreadsheets. Can I access individual Excel cells (location is relatively static) and copy the data from the cell into a location in MS-Word (using bookmarks, etc.) ?

In another word document, I have multiple embedded spreadsheets. Can I reference cell information in one embedded spreadsheet from another embedded spreadsheet? Eg. each spreadsheet has a subtotal cell and the final spreadsheet of the document is supposed to list all the subtotals and then calculate the overall total.

We have a problem here at work that no one has been able to figure out. I thought someone in here might have an idea:

Our Budget Analyst print "Budget Books" every year. These are Word documents with embedded Excel Spreadsheet links. The links are set to update automatically, but we've tried manual etc. with no luck. The links to the spreadsheets are good and accurate, when you go into print preview everything shows up correctly.

When you actually print the document, say it's a 9 page document, typically at least one of the pages will have either the wrong spreadsheet linked to it or there will be huge letters printed on top of eachother where the spreadsheet link should be.

You go back to look at the document and it's fine, the print preview is still fine, the links are up to date and correct. I tried running a manual link update just before printing and this didn't fix it. The problem is not just one link, everytime you print it, it may jump around and just change where the spreadsheets are printed or put those big letters in different spots.

We are printing to a HP 5si networked printer, NT 4.0 server, NT 4.0 workstations with 384 mb of RAM each.

The only way we've been able to fix this is to have the budget analysts block, copy and paste their links again before printing.
Or break the 9 page document (or however many pages) into 9 one page documents.

    Anyone have any ideas?

If I'm hearing you right, I've helped someone with this before. It's not the greatest, but it SHOULD work.

I suspect that you are using, for instance, one workbook to link to. Office doesn't like using more than Sheet1 to integrate with other apps. For instance, if you do a mailmerge, you'll have fun getting it to link to sheet2.

If these are financials of some sort, then I imagine that your ranges don't *change size* much. Good.

Create a new workbook for each of the Excel *ranges* you want to put into the doc file. In THEM, paste links from your *real* workbook. Link your Word doc to each of these new workbooks. That way, one workbook per link. You *should* get better results. I helped someone else do this, and they got better results.

So when i open any file like a PDF or something, it's automatically opened as an excel document when i want it to be word. I've already tried setting word as a default app but it still doesn't work.
Also, i tried going to the downloaded files and pressed 'open documents like this with word from now on' but afterwards when i open that same file it still opens in excel. Can someone please help me, i have to print stuff for school but I can't because of this.

A:All my files are opened as excel instead of word

Well you can Print in the interim. Instead of pushing a file to an application via its File Association, you can always open the Application and then open the document and print it.

So if you try to open a PDF, DOC, DOCx, and others they are all associated to MS Excel ?

Did you Right-Click on a PDF file and choose "Open With" ---> Choose Default Program
And set it back to Adobe Reader ( or whatever PDF viewer you use ) ?

Did you Right-Click on a DOC and DOCx files and choose "Open With" ---> Choose Default Program
And set it back to Microsoft Word ?

Did you go to Control Panel and use the Default Programs applet and then choose "Set your Default Program" and then choose the Program like Adobe Reader, Microsoft Word and have it "Set this program as default" ?

    Hi guys,

I have a question that has stumped me so far. Here is the scenario: I am dealing with a spreadsheet that has several tabs on it. In each tab, there are several word, powerpoint, and pdf documents that are embedded as objects. My task is to write a macro, that will for each document (keep in mind its an embedded object that needs to be opened), open it with the appropriate program, and save it using a pre-assigned name (the name of the column heading and the row it is in) to a predetermined folder path. This process needs to be duplicated about 200 times. I'm not sure if this is even possible, but I know enough about vba to believe that it is. I've been working on it since yesterday, and I can't seem to tie the pieces together. Can anyone help on this?

Windows XP - Office 2003 & Office 2007 - Sharepoint (not the current version) - McAfee Virus Scan

We have users who use sharepoint to open word docs. The Word docs were created in Word 2003 and when they were created they embedded Excel 2003 sheets.
We have since upgraded to Office 2007 and now SOME but not all users try to go into sharepoint and open those word docs and then try to open embedded excel sheets they are getting the message:
Microsoft Office Word Can't start the application required to open this object.
An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Would you like to repair this feature now?
If we say NO it gives another error message:
This object is corrupt or is no longer available.
If we say YES to repairing the feature then it goes through the install process and we have to restart.
This does not fix the issue.

I have tried several things to fix this and none of them have worked.
I have tried enabling the macro security and link security among other things.

I have searched this site and googled it and am not finding the exact issue or a resolution to this issue.
Can anyone give me any sound advice? or something else to try.

Hi Folks - and Happy New Year to You!

You can class me as a 60 year old newbie!

    I'm using version Adobe 7.0.

I written an e-book to publish on my web site, and can't get the darn thing to convert into a pdf file. Sometimes it works for some files -- sometimes it doesn't.

I suspect the problem is with my many embedded graphics. I have created Microsoft Powerpoint slides, and have cut and pasted them into my ebook as objects inserted between the paragraphs of text. I have compressed them within Word.

When converting from the "Convert to Adobe PDF" button in my Word Toolbar, it gets all the way through and finally has an error at the end saying: "an error occured while creating a temporary file; Word was unable to write some of the embedded objects due to insufficient memory or disk space"

I have Adobe set with a password to protect copying, and the Word file sizes are around 1 to 2 Mbs.

My computer is only a year old, and I have 23 Gb of free space.

I'm using Windows Professional XP and Word 2002

Please reply asap or email me on [email protected]

Unless that is a "throw-away" address (one you are using for this one time and then discarding it)-- don't put your address out so that all the spammers in the wold will have it as a confirmed address.

I don't know if it would help you or not-- (As I haven't used the security functions of .pdf) but a different (FREE) program MAY help you.

If you use the "Print Preview" (under <FILE> tab in WORD), are you able to see your document as you intended it to be viewed?? If so, then a program like "pdfCreator" could be used to produce your .pdf file.

pdfCreator installs as though it were a new printer on your system. When you go want to produce a .pdf file, you just select "PRINT", however, when the printing dialogue pops up, select pdfCretor as your printer. After a couple seconds there will be a dialogue to fill in and it will ask for the file name you wish to give your .pdf file.

If print preview shows the document correctly, the .pdf file created will be fine. This .pdf file will be usable just like any other .pdf file (again, the security issue is a feature I have not used for my purposes--- but pdfCreator-- and a few similar programs-- do a great job.)

    Download pdfCreator here:

am copying from Excel & using paste special into PowerPoint 2007 and
choosing Paste Special Excel Object. My PowerPoint background is dark blue,
therefore I need to change my Excel data sheet text to white.

My Problem is Printing: I need to print this in pure black & white (white
    back ground/black text).

In 2003 I could go to Grayscale view, right click the Excel object, choose
Grayscale Setting and select Inverse Grayscale.

    Worked like a charm.

Cannot get anywhere in 2007. The text is either unreadable or invisible on
    the printed copy.

i have copied this macro from Access, were it worked, to excel changing the appropriate addresses.
    Sub openaccess()

    On Error GoTo Err_openaccess_Click

    Dim stAppName As String

    stAppName = "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\msaccess.exe C:\Shark-bulk-stationery\sales.mdb"
    Call Shell(stAppName, 1)

    Exit Sub

    MsgBox Err.Description
    Resume Exit_openaccess_Click

    End Sub
When i run this macro Access opens as "read only" because it is it is linked to Excel and Excel can not shut down because it comes up with a message box saying "object required"
What is this object Excel requires?
I am running windows XP s/p2 and i am running officeXP s/p1

YOu might want to Google for:

I found several code samples, none of which use "shell"

Hi Guys - I'm new to this site and not very tech savvy or sure of which forum topic to post this under. If I'm not posting under the right topic please let me know which topic thread would be more suitable.

I run Word 2007 on Windows 7. I recently had a virus hide all my documents and programs - the virus has been removed but it has changed things around.

I cannot open the word documents I have stored in My Docs. All the icons next to the name of the word files are showing up as a little orange page - when I click on the file name, a Microsoft Office 2010 window comes up which says "The Microsoft Office Product needed to open this file is not installed on your computer". And then it has the invitation to purchase Office 2010.
Does anyone know what's going on here with this and know how I can rectify this & change this back somehow so I can open & read these docs in Word 2007 again?

I can open Word 2007 and make a new document and save it but if I go to open it again it has been converted into this other file with the orange page icon and I cannot open it.

(I can open & save in wordpad - the wordpad doc can be saved in My Docs and it will reopen so I can read it again. Also my music, picture and video files all open ok.)

I've been producing reports for clients for several years where I check "Embed Fonts" under Options/Save because I use some fonts that don't exist on most clients' computers. All of the embedded fonts are TT (True Type).

I recently had to reformat my HD and reinstall everything. I forgot about reinstalling the extra fonts, and it revealed something quite unexpected. I opened an old document that was supposed to contain the embedded fonts, and a font that I had used that was no longer on my PC (Jott 43) displayed with a substituted font (Times Roman).

I can't reconcile my understanding of what "embedding" means and the font substitution; i.e., if the font was embedded when the document was created, why does it not display when the font itself is no longer present on the PC? What worries me is that if this happens on my PC, it is surely happening on the clients' PCs.

I embed Word and Acrobat files into Word documents, eg for Agendas, but external recipients cannot open the Acrobat file. Whilst emailed recipients in-house can open the Acrobat file by right click/ Acrobat / Open or Edit, the external addresses only have the option to Convert, which leads to an icon, not the file. I have checked the pdf creation properties, including security. The same for the Word document. I save the Word doc to the hard drive before opening. Embedded Word files in the Word doc opens fine. Has anyone encountered this problem and solved it?

I have created a form which has an excel spreadsheet embedded in it so that the user can calculate some dates in the future. I am not happy with what I have created because the user has to click into the spreadsheet part of the document several times and then once again to actually enter a date. Can somebody take a look at the attached form and let me know if there is a better way to acheive results in this form without all that clicking. Thanks.

I've created a word 2010 doc that contains embedded pdfs, excel sheets.
Now to make this tampre-proof, I need to convert it into a pdf document. I used Adobe Acrobat X Pro to do this but then the embedded PDFs and Excel sheets are not working as a link. They are just like an image.

How can I convert this Word Document into a PDF?

When i insert a pdf into my document using insert, object then selecting the file it only ever shows the first page is this all that is possible or is there a way around?

    A:Word 2007 insert object - pdf

I don't have 2007, but in previous versions what Word did was place the first page which was a link to the file - you double-clicked on it and the file opened up in Acrobat. However, in
Acrobat 8 you can save a .pdf file as a Word .doc or .xml (and there are several other options) - if you save your file as a Word .doc you can then merge it with any other Word .doc that you want it to be in.
