Control Panel will not list program to uninstall

Q: Control Panel will not list program to uninstall

I have a Home Vista Basic, I loaded a spyware /internet security program from my Internet provider. The spyware diagnostic tools will not start/work and one of the suggestions is to reinstall the program. I tried to uninstall the program and it is not listed/found in the control panel. I can see that the program is is in the program files but cannot uninstall it as the control panel is not showing it, therefore cannot be selected for uninstalling.

Help will be appreciated please..

Preferred Solution: Control Panel will not list program to uninstall

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Uninstall Program that are not in the Control Panel

Some programs do not place entries into the registry and thus don't need to be uninstalled, only deleted. Look in the program folder. Is there an "uninstall" file? If not, you can likely just delete it.  What is the name of the program?

Ok, so I noticed that for a while I haven't been here my microsoft sounds when I boot up and shut down my machine. At first I thought that I didn't have the sound files but that wasn't it.

I went into control panel, sound and audio devices and click on the sound tab. Under the program events list, I notice that many of the program events were missing such as windows start up and windows shut down. This is why I wasn't hearing any sounds when I would shut down and start my computer.

My question is, how do you get those items back on the program event list?

I use windows XP home edition computer.

Any help or suggestions? The thing is the a lot of the items in the program list are missing. So lets say I wanted to change the sound that I hear when I turn my machine on, I would go under windows and highlight windows start. But on my program list, it is not there. Hence I have no sound when my computer goes on. It is a stupid thing I realize that but I am curious how the items were lost and wondering if I can get them back. But hey, my computer is 6 years old and still runs great. I should just be happy with that.

A:Missing items on Program list in Control Panel Sounds

i have the identical problem. i have discovered that if i create a new user account, all the program events are available. if i try the run command for sfc / scannow it asks me insert the windows xp install cd but won't recognize it when i do. I don,t think there is anything short of doing an xp repair that will solve my problem. if you come up with something let me know.

Open the Programs and Features control panel.
This screen contains a list of the programs installed on your computer, the company that developed it, and when it was installed.
Right-click on a program to make it highlight. Once you highlight a program you will see two new options next to the Organize and View button called Uninstall and Change (sometimes contains repair option).
There are two ways to Uninstall/Change/Repair a program as below:
1. Click the Uninstall or Change button next to the Organize and View button
2. Right-click the program, then choose Uninstall or Change
My question is:
What's the difference between these two methods? Are they exactly the same?

A:right-click to uninstall/change program in control panel

Uninstall is to generally remove completely while change is a customize option to remove certain software features or components bundled within the installed programs.

Hi Reece12sky,

When you're in the Programs and Features window, and you can see all the installed programs, look at the top right of the list. You should see a little white question mark in a blue circle. to the left of that is a the icon listing drop down menu. Click on the down arrow and select "Details" from the list.

This should do it for you. If not, please let me know.

Hi guys

I'm not too sure when this problem actuall started - maybe a few months ago, but it's starting to become a real issue.

Whenever I try to uninstall a program through control panel>programs>uninstall a program my system reboots the moment I click on "uninstall a program".

I have searched around the net a bit and haven't found the exact problem, but have worked through a couple of soloutions to similar problems with no luck.

I have already tried to turn off "automatically restart" on system failure through system properties, only to find it was already set to "write an event to the system log".

I have not made any changes to the system (that I know off) while trying to fix this problem.

The reason this is becoming an issue is that I'm having major troubles with the latest version (7.0 and above) of roboform password manager clashing with internet explorer. Whether the 2 issues are linked is well beyound my knowledge level

Hello, I've encountered an anoying issue in control panel, the uninstalling section. I've had programs sorted by "Installed on", but since today it always stays sorted by name and even if I sort them again by any other column, it reverts back to name after I re-open or just go back and forward again. Basically, no change gets saved. Re-aranging, disabling columns just gets me the default view with name sorted again. Any helps please, must be something in registry, tried looking around the web, haven't found anything my problem releated.

I just want Windows to remember my sorting option next time I try to uninstall something.

A:Control Panel -> Uninstall or change program -> Columns sorting

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

The places where the column sorts are saved gets full...
...then stuff starts getting weird.

You can use the batch file in this tutorial to empty those places:
Folder View Settings - Reset All to Default

The Desktop is a folder too - so all of your shortcuts/icons will be moved to the left.
If you have a lot things on your desktop, then you might want to...
...install Desktop Restore from this website: MIDIOX
...save your current desktop
...run the batch file from the tutorial
...restore your desktop
...open the list of installed programs
...sort that list as desired
(Leave that list window open*)
...restart your computer
...and see if the sort holds.

*You might also want to consider placing a check by this Folder Option...

...then the list of installed programs will reopen after the restart.

In the "Uninstall or change" programs menu, I cannot view certain programs.

There was a point approximately less than a year ago when I could not view any programs, but, after some valiant effort, I was unable to restore the programs.

Now, all the programs I have downloaded since do appear, but none of the others from the past.

I have tried the following:

Restarting the computer.
Using a different user.
Windows Restore.
sfc scan, there were no problems.
Checking for wmiprvse.exe.
Using an uninstaller.

And none of them have come up with the hundred or so programs that I can access, but do not appear on the menu.

Any suggestions?

I am wondering why some of my installed programs do not show up in control panel, uninstall programs, am also wondering if there is away to make the list of programs in unistall programs show up in alphabetical order.

Also if I cannot uninstall programs any other way does it create any potential problems if I just delete the folder(s) containing the program?

A:Control panel, uninstall programs

Depends. The program may not have been written for win7 or they may be written such that they dont enter the requisite info in the registry. Many such progs will have their own uininstallers accessible via the Start menu or the programfiles directory. Windows components can be found under Turn windows features on or off. See this also.

Programs and Features - Uninstall or Change a Program

If you need to uninstall manually, find the install log. Its usually located in the application folder and tells you what files where installed where and what registry keys were created. However, it may not be smooth going. E.g., there could be shared system files or the install may be very complicated. Where theres absolutely no go I guess you could just delete the folders and clean up afterwards with CCleaner.

I have been infected with snap.do. I didn't know what it was before but I recently found out that it is a hacker (?) problem? Sorry I am quite computer-illiterate and am not sure if this is a spyware or a malware or virus.

I've managed to disable it on my google chrome using the settings > extensions or search engines. I went to control panel > uninstall program and found snap.do by ReSoft.Ltd.

I tried to uninstall it but all I got was this error message that says "To uninstall this application, it is necessary to close your browers. Do you wish to continue?" Even after closing my browsers (and also using task manager to properly close those browsers), this same message, and after clicking yes, everything disappears and snap.do is still there in the Programs and Features.

How can I completely uninstall and then reinstall Skype for Windows desktop?Alternatively, you can use a third-party utility like Revo Uninstaller Free or Portable and follow these instructions for using it. Revo provides a listing of all installed software by installation date and when removing a program, Revo does a more comprehensive job of searching for and removing related registry entries, files and folders. If a program is not listed in Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs) or you receive any error messages about missing files, look for an uninstall icon (shortcut) from within its program group. Click on Start > All Programs (or Program Files), look for the program folder by name and use the program's uninstaller. If it's not there, the next step would be to open Window's Explorer, manually navigate to the program's folder itself, look for an uninstaller file (i.e. uninstall.exe) and double-click on it to run.

My computer was attacked the other day. I downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, and it seems to have helped. But I cannot uninstall some strange programs and shortcuts that showed up on my desktop. I cannot access my control panel under my user account. I did some googling, and I eventually found my administrator account in safe mode, but when I login under safe mode, I cannot access the control panel using the administrator user account. I'm very upset.

I read your forum, and I downloaded HijackThis. Here is my Hijackthis file:

A:I cannot uninstall programs, I cannot access control panel or system administrator

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning pr... Read more

I just installed a program which I thought is what I needed, but it turned out to be useless, and not only that, it actually seems to be a trojan horse or some kind, because I can not find it in the uninstall list on control panel.
I've also downloaded Revo Uninstaller, but that did not help.
I'm afraid it infected my Windows 8 machine with some sort of a virus.
Is there a way to delete that from my machine?

thank you!

A:Program not on the uninstall list

What is the program? Was it installed or is it a portable?
