Yoga 900 13 ISK2 - Wakes from sleep when lid is closed

Q: Yoga 900 13 ISK2 - Wakes from sleep when lid is closed

When the laptop is closed, pressure on the laptop will cause it to wake from sleep. There is no option in the BIOS or device manager to disable the wake from sleep option for the keyboard. Here is someone with a similar issue with the ISK1. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-900-keyboard-wakes-laptop-from-sleep/...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Noticed that my Bluetooth headphones are connecting to the laptop while it's supposed to be sleeping with its lid closed. All the settings are configured to put it in the sleep mode when lid is closed. Is there anything else that would cause the laptop to wake up?

Hello. I know that this problem has been dissuced already here.My device is not a plain Yoga 900, but the(Yoga 900-13ISK2.Is there a bios update that will allow me to make sure that my computer stays sleeping while I move with it? From what I read, the problem seems to be that a key in the keyboard is being pressed and that wakes up the machine.  Thanks!    Doron

My Yoga 920 seems to ranomly wake from sleep when the lid is closed. I'd had several occasions when travelling to find my latop completely dead when I needed it - or finding it burning up in the confines of my bag. A few times, I've been alerted to problem when I happen to hear my laptop make a notification sound. When this happens, the screen is already on when I open the lid and much of the bettery has been used. I've seen this occur both in and out of my bag. Nothing is plug into the laptop other then the dummy USB holder for the pen. I have Vantage installed and all updates have been applied.

Hi All, I'm new to the forum and am loving my Y2P so far. I have been following several threads about tweaking my new machine, and I love the sense of community that you guys have here. I decided to join so I could pose a question: Has anyone had a problem with their machine waking up with the lid closed (in sleep mode). Sometimes when I take my computer out of my bag, it is awake. Since the power button is so hard to press in the first place, I don't think an accidental press is waking it up. Could a device be waking it up? What do you guys think? -IB

Yes, I have this too. Bad thing is I always have that in a laptop case so everytime when it wakes up it is baking-hot.

Most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Computer goes to sleep when lid is open, and wakes when lid is closed. I can open it about 20 degrees and work on it like nothing's wrong. I tried turning off the lid-sleep option in Windows, but no change, and it goes to sleep instantly even if it's in the BIOS or mid-boot. The machine is practically new with very little changed from the stock configuration, and it was fine yesterday. Anyone ever seen this? Also the power button and little reset hole seem to not do anything anymore either.

Hi,I close the lid, the 710 sleeps. I move the external mouse, the 710 wakes. No other laptop I've got does that, I'd consider it a bug. As a work-around you can untick "Allow this device to wake the computer", on the Power Management tab of the HIB-Compliant Mouse properties dialog. Now the mouse won't wake the laptop when the lid is closed, or open of course, which is not ideal. I then changed the wireless mouse, replacing an old Logitech with a new JETech 2.4GHz 0885, the untick was repeated but the mouse still woke the 710. Luckily a documented oddity it seems and unticking "Allow this device to wake the computer" for the HID Keyboard fixed the problem. No idea why one mouse needed this but not the other one. Is this problem of an external mouse waking a closed laptop specific to this model I wonder, and is it likely to get fixed? Cheers

I have a Yoga 700-11ISK, and would frequently put it to sleep, put it in my backpack, & pull it out hours later to find it RED hot & the battery 90% drained.  After wasting an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out why it kept doing this (and damaging other items in my backpack due to the extreme heat), I came across this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/25982/page/2 The problem is that the keyboard remains active even when the lid is closed, so if it gets squeezed in such a way that the screen internally presses a key, it will silently wake itself up.  Apparently Lenovo has spent the past four years churning out laptop after laptop that suffer from this defect, never thinking to learn from their mistakes.  Here are more:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-900-keyboard-wakes-laptop-from-sleep/...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Return-of-the-wake-while-lid-closed-proble...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/35267/page/6 I've tried the hack/script solution proposed in the first thread, but it doesn't work (the keyboard can't be disabled by DevManView without a reboot).  The other threads apply to the Yoga 900, which I guess Lenovo fixed with a BIOS update. This issue is such a problem that I've literally stopped carrying the laptop around...which was th... I want to demonstrate aproblem I have had with my Yoga 900 to see if others have had similar issues. I discovered this when I put my Yoga, (which was asleep) in my backpack, and then later noticed it was awake. It took me a while to figure out what was happening, but I finally determined that it had nothing to do with the backpack. My Yoga 900 would wake up when picked up by the short edge (as I did to put it n my backpack). You can see this in the video:Yoga 900 Waking when pickedup (BTW -- I am not squeezing the laptop, I am just holding it as needed to pick it up by the edge. This does press down on the lid and there is upward pressure on the bottom. It is the pressure on the cover that seems to be the cause of the laptop waking) Note that Lenovo has been great, and is sending me a replacement laptop. But I am curious if others see this same problem. Is this a common Yoga 900 Issue?

I think this is a fairly commn problem. I have tried to fix it by going into Device Manager and unchecking the box allowing the keyboard to wake the laptop from sleep, but thisboption was not even there.  Using Command Prompt in administrator mode and typing ?powercfg -devicedisablewake ?Standard PS/2 Keyboard?? does not work either. Command Prompt tells me I do not have permission to enable or disable device wake.  Is there a workaround or solution for this?

Hi, I have a Lenovo Yoga 900 (Intel Core i7-6560U 3.2 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Windows 10) and have been experiencing the following issue since I purchased it: I put the laptop in sleep mode and into my laptop bag. The laptop will wake up by itself later despite the lid is closed. It then stays on as it's inside the laptop bag it gets very hot and drains the battery. Since this has happened closer to 10 times already I'm worried if the battery life is already damaged due to heating. Normally when I close the lid the laptop goes onto sleep mode.  I have already taken many measures to try and stop it from waking up from this article (http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/stop-windows-computer-randomly-waking/). I have set the power setting so that it should always go on sleep mode when the lid is closed. I don't understand how it goes on even when the lid is closed.  What could be the problem? Thanks in advance!

Hi!I have a bizzare issue with my Gen 1 X1 Yoga. The machine will not sleep when the lid is closed. I know this is not a software issue as holding a magnet above the sensor (in between the caps lock and shift key on the left keyboard bezel) sleeps the machine. Does anyone know where / what the magnet is thats meant to interact with this sensor? I assume it is meant to be positioned somewhere in the Screen bezel? if so does anyone know if this is something that could potentially be checked / serviced by a user or will i be bringing my machine to a repair centre.Cheers

Hi, Sometimes when I close the lid off my Yoga 260 Windows 10 are not going to sleep. The behaviour is really weird because the red light on the lid is blinking like when it's in sleep mode, but I can hear the rotating fan. When I open the lid it's even weirder. Windows are not locked and I am not prompt for a password. The whole system is very laggy. The mouse is moving in jumps and there is not any response to keyboard or screen touch. After few seconds/minutes the system is suddenly OK like nothing happend. This is not happening all the time and I was not able to see any pattern when this happens. What should I do to get rid of this? Thx for help.

I know that I can change the behavior of the function keys permenenatly from BIOS, but this is not what I want, I want to keep the shortcut keys, but be able to press fn key once and get the f1,f2,f3 keys back, and so forth.

I cracked my screen and replaced with a new one.   Now when I close the lid, it won't go to sleep; rather it goes to tablet mode.   I have to press the power button to make it go to sleep.   I put back the original screen and it goes to sleep as it should.   I've tried two different brand new screens and it will never go to sleep when closed.    Lenovo doesn't sell replacement screens so I'm forced to go to ebay or Amazon.   I have checked setting to make sure it goes to sleep when the lid closes.   The magnets are in the replacements.  Hmm, has anyone ever experienced this?  Any recommendations what to do?   Thank you for your input.

I understand this is a long shot, due to number of possible software variables, but I need help, as this is becoming a more and more frequent problem. I have a y510p. It is running Windows 8.1, haven't jumped to 10 yet. I run pretty average software - Google Chrome, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, obviously a few other things.  I've been having a problem where for reasons I do not understand the laptop, which I bring around with me in a backpack, has been waking up after I disconnect from power and USB dock and close the lid. I don't know when it wakes up, or if it just isn't sleeping at all, but it is quite problematic in that it will at the very least just drain the battery every night and worse it is just cooking and cooking in the backpack.  I know it is a stupid thing, but I do find it a tremendous nuisance to sit there and stare at the status LEDs every day when I'm ready to go home just to make sure the stupid thing has absolutely gone to sleep. Control Panel - Power Options are set to sleep on Lid close (tried Hibernate on Lid close, no better result), and this even happens when WiFi is disabled in Control Panel - Network connections. The Always On USB port is also disabled in BIOS.

Hi All,
I have two systems a N650SLI-DS4 and a GA-EP35-DS3L hooked up to a Trednet KVM switch. If I put the GA-EP35-DS3L to sleep and switch to the N650SLI-DS4, the GA-EP35-DS3L system wakes up. The only way I have been able to keep it in sleep is if I hold the switch for the N650SLI-DS4 while pressing the sleep button and then switching to the N650SLI-DS4 immediately the GA-EP35-DS3L won't turn on until I press the power button. Now the N650SLI-DS4 doesn't have the problem. I went into the BIOS and disabled the keyboard and mouse wakeup but don't know what else to check. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to check next?

This is what happened to me for the past few years. This week I just replaced my N650SLI-DS4 with an ASUS P8Z77-V LK board. The Asus also does NOT show the same issue that the GA-EP35-DS3L has. Could this just be an issue with the power supply?

My PC seems to be waking itself from sleep without a clear reason. It does not appear to be harming my computer but this interferes with some of the tasks I have scheduled (in the Task Scheduler) related to waking up from sleep and downloading files (related to my job).

When I checked the command function to ask when the last wake up was, I got the result of:

Does anybody known what this means or what is causing this unintended wake from sleep?? Is there something I can do to prevent this from happening or just leave it alone??

A:Computer wakes itself up on its own from sleep - why?

That seems to point to a device waking the pc that is attached via usb. In your power options of the mouse for instance does it say it can wake the pc, it might be to sensitive and it wakes your pc when air is blown on it even. I had this issue and unchecked this box and only wake with my keyboard. Do you have any backup software like Acronis or Macrium installed?
ALSO: This should not be in Updates and Activations it should be under Hardware or General for future reference.

The last 3 days or so my PC has woke up from sleep mode, or standby mode about 2-3 times each night. And the weird part about it. Is the PC wakes up. It turns on and my lights and fans and water-cooling kick into gear. The Monitor Turns on, or wakes up as well. But the odd part is the Monitor lights up, but stays this not grey, but not white color. Like backlight only.. No sign in screen, no background. Nothing. And once I move my mouse, or hit a key. It fully wakes up and I'm able to type in my password and log-in.

Very odd, I've build MANY a computers. and none have ever PARTIALLY woke from sleep mode, but not all the way. It's very bizarre and I'm pretty confused atm. It's been on the last 3 days in a row when I get off work also, witch makes me think it's been running all day when I get home.. Now thats ok, I'd just like to figure out what the hell it's doing, and why only partially waking up.

I have spent alot of time trying to figure this out and so far i have got no where. When i set my computer to sleep (Windows 7 64bit) the monitor goes into standby mode and then as soon as my computer is about to sleep it wakes up immediately. I have unchecked (Device manager) the adapter card, unchecked the mouse and then unchecked the keyboard from waking up my PC and it still refuses to sleep. When i type the command to find out what is waking my PC in cmd (-lastwake) i find that a USB root controller standard is waking the PC up but in the driver devices the USB roots are are unchecked to wake my PC. Im at a complete loss here, i have no idea whats going on. I thought it might be my Bios waking up the computer as soon as it detects sleep mode but i dont see anything in BIOS to prevent this so i think its a Windows issue.

Anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

Hey guys, just set up a Dell Inspiron 15, 2 in 1 with Windows 10, the Intel i5 processor and 256 GB SSD. What a screamer coming from a 6 year old Toshiba with a spinner drive and a dog processor!   This new Dell really is working well and I like it a lot.  But there is still one thing that I haven't been able to figure out.
I use the laptop on and off frequently throughout the day, so I put the computer into sleep mode in-between sessions.  MOST of the time, it stays in sleep mode.  But SOME of the time, it just wakes up on its own for no apparent reason.
I use the touchpad to wake up the computer out of sleep mode (to save on the power button over time) but the touchpad has never been touched when it wakes up on its own.  I am using a Microsoft wireless 3500 mouse and I went into settings and under power management, unchecked the box which allows the mouse to wake the computer.
What am I missing?  The weird thing is that this is an intermittent problem, not solid.  Sometimes the hardest quirks to track down.
Thanks in advance for the help!

A:Computer wakes 1 second after going to sleep

Strange, I am seeing exactly the same symptoms on my main system. I've been around the block several times in the past with S3 sleep issues, from WOL to task scheduler events, and this is something different. I've tried all the usual tricks to try to pin it down (unplug the LAN cable, check the wake_armed devices, task schedule, etc) and this one is pretty frustrating.

I'm seeing the same empty wake history after the system sleeps for one second, too.

Very little has changed on my system around the time I noticed this change in behavior last week. I sure haven't installed any new hardware, updated drivers, etc that might account for the issue.

I wonder if it could be a recent windows update? That would explain the coincidence of us both seeing the same problem at about the same time...

I'd hate to have to resort to restoring from a backup, but unless something turns up soon I may have to use that sledgehammer, at least to pin down what happened. And I'd hate to spend all that time doing that, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'm also keen to get some help.

My system is a pretty basic ASUS P8/Z68-V Pro.

All by itself,... It is the most bizarre thing. Either it goes to sleep by the timer setting or I can use the "Start button" then select sleep. It closes up properly and looks all hunky-dori. Then between 30 and 45 seconds later, it wakes up again.

Hi! I have an Asus U56E running Windows 7. Sometimes, when I try putting it on sleep mode, the laptop wakes up again once the monitor has shut off. This is a seemingly random occurrence because I often put it to sleep with no problems; it is only sometimes that this wakeup happens. I am sure that I don't hit any keys / mouse to wake it up, and it's pretty annoying. Do you have any insights on how to prevent this from happening?

I have used every tool POWERCFG gives, it's report is clean, there are no wake requests, all devices (mouse keyboard) have had their wake ability disabled, I have even disable ALL devices in bios, booted without a keyboard and mouse and still, it wakes as soon as it's put to sleep. Wake source: unknown.

I boot into Win 7 from another hard drive, no issues.

One thing to note is that from a fresh restart, if i put it to sleep, it stays asleep. Once waked, it will never sleep again. Restart the system, leave for idle for ages, hit the power button; it goes to sleep and stays. After waking, it never stays asleep again.

My desktop just (from about 3 days ago) started hanging up, crashing, then rebooting when I try to wake it up from sleep. During BSOD sceeen dump, I noticed it said something about atikmpag.sys. A few times, during attempting to wake up from sleep, the computer would hang up, but would manage to get to Windows Desktop. In those few instances, however, there would an warning message on the taskbar saying that there was an failure loading the display drivers, but the drivers were successfully reloaded. (Something that effect.) My graphics card, which is nine months old, is a Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2GB. I took all the obvious steps: completely uninstalled the drivers and installed the latest ones; removed the video card from the slot and reinstalled it. But, none of this helped. I am stating to wonder if the card is going bad, and if that is the reason for the hangups and BSOD. The machine doesn't hang during normal use, or when playing games (Diablo III Beta, SC II). I am attaching the two reports that the BSOD posting instructions requested. Looking forward to some feedback. Thank you!

My system: Win 10 64 bit Retail, MSI B150M Mortar, Intel i5-6500, Samsung 512GB SSD, Corsair 2 x 4 GB Memory, etc.

Although my keyboard and mouse are allowed to wake the PC from sleep (in Device Manager), they don't wake the PC. Interestingly, pressing the "Power Button" on my Fractal R5 case does wake it up from sleep. Any idea about what's going on?

You also need to access the BIOS and setup to allow Wakeup from Keyboard/Mouse
NOTE: If you have a USB keyboard then you also need to setup for USB to wake up.

I'm having the same problem with my Acer w500 which uses mSATA SSD drives only. I have upgraded to a Mushkin Atlas 120GB V series SSD and obviously upgraded to win8 (professional) and every time it wakes from sleep it says there was a problem and needs to reboot. I'm going to put the stock 32GB Sandisk SSD back in later today and see if the problem is still present. I do have the latest BIOS on this computer and the latest firmware on the Mushkin SSD, drivers are the latest from Acer and most are November 2012 dates. There are no BIOS settings on this computer, all I really get are boot order, AHCI or IDE mode, and a couple other trivial things so I can't change suspend to ram or suspend to disk settings. I'll make the changes to hopefully show the BSOD when it comes out of sleep so I can try to gather more info.

This was a "clean" upgrade install (do not keep any settings or applications) which puts all the old stuff in a .old file, it was a clean from restore disk win7 that was used as the base OS to allow an upgrade, and is the 32 bit version of win8.

As far as I know, laptops in sleep near battery death wake themselves up to go into hibernation. Problem is my laptop is waking up in the middle of the night from a near full battery to go into hibernation randomly (and blasting the music that was playing for the few seconds it takes before it hibernates). I'm also concerned of this happening while the laptop is in my backpack being shuffled about in sleep and just randomly waking up to hibernate. I don't want it to wake up automatically at all!

I don't have any devices waking it, such as mice or keyboards which wouldn't be the same anyway since that'd just wake up the laptop, not put it into hibernate afterwards.

Do the event logs shed any light on this? Look for a time stamped event while it was supposed to be asleep.

As the title says, occasionally when I wake up my computer from sleep, it will turn on (all of the fans and lights start running) but there is nothing displayed on either of my monitors. If I hard reboot, the problem is fixed.

I have my hard drive set to "never turn off" and this hasn't helped the problem.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/63...-problems.html For both 7 and Vista.

If the specific problem is not addressed. You may want to check the Video card, driver and memory.

As a test try turning off Aero.

Hopefully this will help.

When I start my computer, everything is fine. As long as I continuously use it, I have no problems. If the computer ever goes to sleep, however, I can use the mouse or keyboard to wake it up, but I cannot actually use anything. Even CTRL-ALT-DELETE doesn't work. If I boot my PC into Linux, I don't encounter the problem.
I have run a Virus Scan and Malware scan and found nothing.
What I have had to do recently is to hold my power button down until the computer shuts off, then power it up again.

I bought my hp dv4-1300 last spring. When Windows 7 came out I got my free MSDNAA copy from my engineering department, and did a clean install (7 Pro, 64-bit). After install, I went to Hp's website and got all the 64-bit drivers for my laptop (gfx, sound, buttons @ top, etc). All of them were digitally signed and installed correctly. I began to notice my battery being dead or near dead when using my laptop on campus. One time I removed it from my bag to find it ON, extremely hot, and the battery almost dead.

This has been going on for some time, and I've done alot to try to fix it.

First, I suspected some device ( like wake on LAN ) was waking the computer. I found the command line commands to see which devices are allowed to wake the computer during sleep, and this revealed no culprit.

Second, I tried looking at the Windows Event Logs. Im not too familiar with these logs but I will describe them best I can here. The event "Power Troubleshooter" is listed and has this as the description. [Note I put the computer to sleep by closing the lid (it does the same thing if i manually click sleep) at 5:23pm. At exactly 6:23pm, this is the event listed.
"The system has resumed from sleep.

Wake Time: ‎2010‎-‎01‎-‎14T23:23:48.373601500Z
Wake Source: Unknown"

There are a few events that occour just before this event is listed.... Read more

A:Laptop wakes from sleep automatically

I have the exact same problem and would be very interested in a solution...

Someone on another forum hinted on a bad battery for keeping the clock's time, but I have a brand new laptop so I doubt that this is the problem...

So I've been getting BSOD's when I put my laptop to sleep and wake it up. The error is BAD_POOL_HEADER.

I used WhoCrashed to check the dumps, and below is the screenshot of what I found:
What do I do? How can I fix this?

I'm on Win 8 64-bit and do not have the CD/DVD of the OS.

That information is inadequate for analysis. Follow the sticky at the top of the BSOD forum and then update this post with all required information. Good luck.
