I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Can't access my laptop. Is it possible that after windows 10 pro installation bitlocker is on? Could it depend what is the source of win10 or the laptop's manufacturer? It seems that in our Lenovo Thinkpad T570 bitlocker was on when we bought it.  Or could it be that some Lenovo program turns bitlocker on without a notice during installation?

I don't like it either and I turn it off.  It is Microsoft, not Lenovo.

I have receieved in the past two days 2 brand new Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon G5 Laptops (20HQS02000).  The first one arrived and had a faulty touchpad, and had this unusual problem of an encrypted system partition - even though Windows 10 bitlocker is not configured/activated/turned on.  So this unit was sent back (due to touchpad). The new unit, which is also a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon G5 Laptops (20HQS02000) - also has this issue. This is preventing me from running backup software on this device. (Acronis TrueImage). I wish to run it offline, so its fast and I can ensure a perfect snapshot. After noticing this I booted back into Windows to try and disable bitlocker. However it appears to not be turned on.  How is the drive encrypted? what is this rubbish? I find it highly irregular and would like some kind of an explination.

A:New X1 Carbon G5 Lenovo Win10 OS Image is encrypted by default you can't undo it even in windows.

I should add that I had purchased 5 X1 Carbons previously (like a month earlier).  I noticed that the default build of Windows 10 did not contain horrible bloatware like candy crush etc. And it did not have this encryption issue. Seriously why does lenovo ship such horrible OS images.. all this does is frustrate thier customers.

With the new major release of Windows 10 AU (Redstone) or even the upcoming Redstone 2 update planned somewhere around beginning of 2017, will I have to temporarily disable BitLocker in the process of updating to Redstone?

Since this is a major update to Windows 10, can it have issues with machines that have BitLocker enabled ?

In any case, I do have backups in place.

Thanks

A:Updating Win10 to Redstone with BitLocker Enabled?

I have successfully upgraded a major version with bitlocker on. However, that was only because I forgot about it and did not disable it. I would never consciously upgrade like that as the risk is too great in my opinion.

I just installed Win10 Pro and I love it.
When I enabled BitLocker, I selected to encrypt the Entire drive instead of the Used Space because I just feel I am safer with encrypting the entire drive. And my drive is not new. It had Win7 running before.

So I did a clean install of Win10 pro with BitLocker enabled to set to encrypt the ENTIRE drive.
The encryption process took 7 hours to complete on a 300GB internal disk drive

When I had Win7 (and even Win8.1), it did not take that long to encrypt and I have the same exact internal drive.
In Win7, the whole process took 1 hour. And with Win8.1 took a bit more time, but not 7 hours...

Why is entire disk encryption takes this long on Win10?

And also, I do not have a whole lot of programs installed. I have like 6 programs installed and there not that huge in size.
Thanks!

A:BitLocker Encryption process VERY Slow on Win10

I don't know why this is, but it is ULTRA SLOW indeed. I recently bought a WD Blue 4 TB drive and Bitlocker is already encrypting it for more than 50 hours and is still at only at 68.3%.

According to the Windows Taskmanager the Bitlocker process is using the drive at 100%, constantly reading off and writing on it at 7-15 MB/s. I don't know about the mechanics of a harddrive, but running at 100% for 75 hours (>3 days!) isn't going to improve its health.

I chose the offered new encryption XTS-AES.

In the past, encrypting a whole drive always took some time, but even with drives as big as 3 TB it never took more than 24 hours.

I guess it is some kind of bug and i hope that Microsoft will fix it.

Hey,

I'm having an issue with enabling hardware encryption with Bitlocker using Windows 10 build 10586 on a clean install with a Samsung 850 SSD.

The encryption worked flawlessly before.

I've spent hours and attempted multiple solutions and made several tests.

On the same machine, if clean installing build 10240 (RTM, before November update) right now, the encryption works.

I have UEFI on with Legacy/CSM off, Fast Boot on, Secure Boot on, and a clean GPT installation after using the 'diskpart clean' command.

As always, it's required to change a group policy to allow additional authentication at startup. I did that as always.

On a clean installation of build 10586, the wizard will say 'parameter is incorrect' when you attempt to start encryption.

Microsoft did announce some Bitlocker-related changes for build 10586: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt403325

There are also new group policies added. I've tried all combinations. They now allow you to try and force a specific encryption cipher. Samsung uses XES-AES256. I tried forcing that (as well as all other combinations) but the same error returns.

Now, here's where it gets interesting, and possibly why no reports about this have surfaced yet:
If you enable the encryption on build 10240, and then upgrade to 10586, the encryption will remain and will work properly on build 10586.

If you then attempt to 'Reset this PC', and choose the 'keep nothing' option, it will warn you that bitlocker will be disabled. ... Read more

I am VERY confused - Please help.

By setting up Full Drive Encryption on Win10 and 8 systems, with a BitLocker password, will that BitLocker password would be the same as the normal Windows user account password?
On these OS systems there is a new Local Security Policy settings called:
Interactive logon: Machine account lockout threshold
?www.stigviewer.com/stig/ ??? /V-36772

By looking at the image shot, will that BitLocker password be the same as my Windows account password?

So in other words, when I enter this BitLocker password, will it just boot into Windows without having to type in a separate Windows logon password?

Correct me if I am wrong here, but does this mean that in Win10, the BitLocker Password is used in conjunction with the Windows Account logon password?

Or lets say that I have a Windows 10 Admin password created, and I enter that account's Windows password too many times, does this mean that when the account is locked out, it will affect BitLocker as well?
Or, does my Windows Account password is considered itself a BitLocker password?
I am confused here. Please explain.

A:Win10 Bitlocker and Interactive logon: Machine account lockout?

The Bitlocker password is not linked to your user account - the 2 are completely independent programs that have their own security settings.

I am in W7 because I became stuck after an unsuccessful restore from image. I know the error code, but I am unsure of why it failed. I am trying to get back to W10 and my head is exploding - as it is day 5.

External HD works, but I can't find my backups (pst file from 6/17). That is one path to recovery through a recovery of files.
As I can't find my Outlook data, I cannot figure out my next step. After I had an image recovery failure on Tuesday, I cannot locate that image in my computer or on my external HD. I can't see it - hidden or un-hidden. Where is the WindowsBackupImage from my C drive? When I open Backup & Restore, it shows 0 files and 90GB of a system image.
When I woke up, my goal was to recover using Restore from Image via .vhd file.

Because I cannot visually eyeball any of the data that should be in multiple folders/files, I am upset.
Backups are always sent to HD. Backups done daily and images weekly. Without having had a HD failure, I should have data backups between 6/2 and 6/17. Images from 6/17, 6/10, and 6/3 unless the earlier were overwritten.
I had a lot of room on HD...

Seagate thinks MS did something with W10 updates. He is sure my data is somewhere. So am I. How could it be corrupted, yet leave an image along with photos, texts, docs, Word, PDF, .pst files?

It's a real PITA. Not only is it extremely difficult to assign default programs (either no option for "default" or it just doesn't take my choice) for different media, but once assigned, Win10 later forgets the default program and opens it with another.

For instance: I have assigned all audio file types (mp3, wav, m3u etc.) to open with Winamp. I've done this by manually assigning a default program for every single file type in "Control Panel - Default Programs - Associate a file type...", because every other option failed.

Later, after a reboot, it still shows "Winamp" in the list of file types. But Win10 now opens m3u-files with VLC player! Is this a known problem? Is there any solution to this? I'm going hardcore, with registry keys etc - only need the info.

And 2nd question: some file types are not listed under "Control Panel - Default Programs - Associate a file type...". How can i assign these missing file types to a program?

Any help highly appreciated.

Never mind, got it working.

I read other posts and none specifically addressed this for the 920 and the use of what is actually a good Lenovo config tool seems to be poorly documented.   I would think it would be the same for any Yoga model with Windows 10 and Lenovo Vantage installed.   I can't seem to find a version for Vantage, so hopefully this works on all versions.    1) Find and open Lenovo Vantage on your machine (use Cortana if needed).   This is the Responsive view and yours may look different...don't worry, options are the same.  Click on Hardware settings  2)  Click on Input (again, responsive view...whatever view you have should have this button labeled the same)  3)  This will open the Hardware Setting - Input UI.   Under 'Function Keys' click on the one that is labeled 'F1-F12' (should look like below, highlighted in blue) to make that the the Function the default setting for those keys...to further clarify: it will now be a Function Key (F1-F12) by default.    With this change, you will press the FN+ one of the function key for the Hot Key option (e.g. FN+F1=mute/unmute, FN+F2=volume down, etc.)     4)  Your change is already saved, so you can now X-out (click X in the upper right) of the pop-up windows created by that were created

Hi, I have a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro (x64) on my X1 Yoga, installed in UEFI mode. I wish to encrypt the drive with Bitlocker with TPM and PIN. Another user on a different thread alluded that this is not possible as the X1 Yoga I have uses a PCIe-NVMe disk, for which there is no hardware support for Bitlocker. Is this correct or am I confused?

A:Lenovo X1 Yoga (20FQ) BitLocker with TPM and PIN

I meant you cannot use the AES hardware engine of the NVMe SSD (if a SED like the OPAL2 option) - but you can use software BitLocker just fine. This means the CPU will have to do the crypto instead for some performance penalty depending on your I/O - see CPU utilisation during a benchmark for example. Also do note that using FDE (full disk encryption) on a SSD is not "great" as the whole disk "looks full" to the SSD - so you may need to over-provision for best performance. You can also use "encrypt only used space" instead. There are pros and cons for each.

Hello everyone,I purchased a T440s about a year ago. Long story short, I was not able to log into my computer using my bitlocker password (recovery key still worked). After about 3 months of going back and forth with Lenovo and filing a small claims lawsuit (absolutly terrible customer service experience) I recieved a new computer, a T450s. I went out and bought a 128gb 1.8" SSD for the purpose of upgrading my x301 to Win 7. I really wanted to preserve my old XP environment on the stock 64gb.

I did a fresh Win 7 Ultimate install, initially I installed the 64bit version but found my VPN software would not support it so then I wiped and installed 32 bit. I did leave the 100mb partition that the 64bit version created.

Installed Win 7 32bit, installed the lenovo software update program and let it put all of the software on the laptop. Did the win 7 update thing (this all took the better part of a day).

I wresteled the TPM chip and now have it owned by win 7. Had to do the "hit esc" till the red win7 loader, power off, enter bios, clear keys method, but it worked. Now Win 7 says it ownes the tpm.

Trying to turn on Bitlocker doing the "key test" results in the screen on every reboot saying that something has changed. I then turned on bitlocker, let it encrypt drive without doing the test and it completed sucessfully but every reboot asks for the recovery key.

I've tried just about every "fix" I can find for this, including, changing bios boot order to only include hdd, suspending/resuming BL and a host of other things as well, bios updated. Nothing seems to work. I'd really like to use bit locker but not if it is not going to work right.

I did come across a post that involved some policy editing then turning of/on again and have not yet tried that.

A:Lenovo X301 Bitlocker asking for recover key every time..

I believe I found the problem enabling bitlocker on my x301. I tried just about every possible thing I could find on the internet and was unable to get it enabled. Every time on the next boot I would get the message (pre windows), from the bios that the environment had been changed and bitlocker would fail to encrypt the drive. If I encrypted the drive without the bitlocker test it would encrypt but every boot would make me enter the recovery key in order to boot.

Last night I found a post that indicated that bitlocker would make a 300 meg partition (100 for itself, 200 for oem utilities). That got me thinking. Today I decided to shrink my system partition and leave some unpartitioned space on the drive in case it was trying to make this partition. That's when things changed. Suddenly bitlocker started working properly. I still only see the 100 meg windows partition, but maybe there is another hidden partition that it was unable to create because I had given all the space to my system drive. I left 500 megs unpartitioned, enabled bitlocker and it's working fine. For me, problem solved.

Hope this helps someone. One nice thing about Win7 is that it allows you to shrink/expand volumns right from disk management so no playing around with PE boot disks.

Its not a major issue I have now with Win10, but its annoying a bit.

Before I logon to Windows 10, the default lock screen theme has the time in 12 hour format instead of the 24 hour format.
In Windows, I set everything in 24 hour time. Period. I just don't like 12 hour time.

I'm working with a Lenovo Z50-70 Win8.1x64 preinstalled and wish to know what to do after updating to WIN10:- as updating to WIN10 we will have to reinstall all SW programs, what about the Lenovo applictions (OneKey Recovery, Smart Voice, ....)?- I think its files are in the Lenovo partition, each one has a setup.exe, but there is no help to assist in reinstalling.Could somebody specify the steps to run? Thanks.

First thing I would do is make sure I have the latest drivers and software from support.lenovo.com for Windows 10.Then check everything that is installed on your machine individually. If a certain program or peripheral doesn't work reinstall the software or the driver. That is basically it.

Hello community,I registered here to find someone who can help me out. I own a Lenovo Y500. I updated the system in August 16 from win 8.1 to win10 without having any kind of issues. The whole system ran perfectly for almost 6 months.2 weeks ago win10 did one of its "standard" updates and since then I have extreme problems concerning my laptop. 1.win 10 says the latest update Windows 10 Version 1607 für x64-basierte Systeme (KB3200970) couldn't be installed properly so the installation process was stopped. I should do a restart. If I do so, the update gets downloaded again and win10 tries to install it again but AGAIN it wont work. That means I'm literally cought in some kind of update bubble 2. because of this failed update my USB drivers wont work anymore. Win10 says that INTEL driver update for Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family SMBus Host Controller - 1E22 failed, so all my USB devices dont work anymore, except my XBox controller 3. My office 2010 version refused to work after the failed update, the systems tells me that I dont have the correct product key but this is not too important for me. Using Libre instead. I already searched the net for a solution but nothing helped.I tried to install the Intel USB drivers using the INTEL Driver Update Utility but it didnt work, i also tried to install the driver right from the Intel hompage and it said my system doesnt fullfill the minimum requirements for the installation of the software... ... Hi, I recently received an Ideapad 700 that came with 8gb of RAM and a 1TB 5400rpm HDD with Win10 installed on it.  Because 5400rpm is rather slow, I purchased a 128GB M.2 SSD and installed it correctly.  The computer can see it and recognize it. My issue is I am having trouble transferring Win10 from the HDD to the SSD and getting it to boot from the SSD.  It seems it just defaults to the HDD and I am not sure where I am going wrong.  Currently I have wiped the SSD and am starting from square 1. Could anyone please help me out.  I don't want to break my wife's laptop before I get a chance to give it to her.  thanks!

HelloI recently upgraded my windows from version 8.1 to 10And I think it's not bad, but a bit later than 8.1 booting, it's getting much faster in Windows before. But now it's a little slowIt's not a problem in running programs, but I feel this laptop is not built for Windows 10. Will there be a problem?I feel a little pressure on the laptop hardware. Is it better to go back to the previous version? It's also important to add that all drivers are safe and fully installed without problems (even the brightness problem does not exist for me)

It's hard to tell, without knowing your laptop's specs. Could you share you CPU model, how much RAM do you have and what SSD/HDD model you use?

The free upgrade to win 10 pro failed several times.  I checked the web for problems and as a result uninstalled malwarebytes, antivirus, some drivers and some Lenovo stuff that popped up.  Finally the upgrade using the Media tool was successful.  Win 10 pro is now working on the T420.  However, only the Lenovo Companion is installed.  I bought a Yoga with Win10 pro and it came with Lenovo Companion, Settings and Account.  I have been trying to find a way on the Lenovo site to download the Settings and Account programs, but no luck.  Any suggestions?  (Probably a simple solution and I am just missing something obvious....)

I'm thinking there's likely a 'most' efficient way to download the utils specific to the T61 and Windows 10 (e.g. fingerprint reader, updater, etc)? Although I doubt Lenovo has the feature, it's sure nice when a company's website can 'read' your machine, automatically determine from your hard and software precisely what is needed and proceed to download it for you ;-) Mark

Lenovo says it will not support any OS above Win7 and specifically that it will not provide a Bluetooth driver for the T510 laptop. I had to roll back my Win10 upgrade due to this issue. My quest: anyone know whether or not there is a possible source for development of such?

Anyone else having a T510 with the same complaint? Let me know if we can unite and appeal this to Lenovo.

Hi there, First of all, please excuse my bad english. I recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad 710S Plus 13 IKB. Enjoyed it since yesterday as it became to shut down randomly. Sometimes after 2 minutes, sometimes after 20 minutes. I noticed it only happens when it's running on battery.I've read other threads but none of them helped me out. Already tried to turn off fast boot, nothing changed. Also tried to update BIOS but I got an error message saying I'm not plugged in on AC (even if I am). This situation is really getting me crazy, my laptop is only 1 month old. Thanks for your help.
