Preferred Solution: Unable to access the Advanced menu from BIOS

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm having issues with my graphics card and I need to switch my Intel off and Nvidia on. I saw on the internet that you need to enter the Advanced BIOS to do that. But for some reason, I can't see it in the BIOS. I am using an HP 15 Notebook PC.

I had wanted to change the minimum amount of memory to my intel HD 515 graphics and make some other tweaks for gaming, and I turned off my laptop, pushed the novo button on the side, it booted up and I chose the Bios setup option. I started going through the menus and I HAD an advanced menu which gave me the graphics memory options, it had overclocking options, option to enable NFC, 3D Camera and a bunch of other stuff. I even showed to someone, so I was NOT hallucinating haha. I had decided to reboot and wait so I could google a lot of the options as I didn't understand some of the super-super advanced settings. When I went back to the bios, no advanced menu is present and I can NOT get it back. A lot of stuff says you CAN'T get it, but I DID.  Anyone? Was it some super weird glitch or did I bump the right key combo? I did a google search and have found a few others that have also accidentally done this, including a screenshot of the SAME menu I got from another Lenovo user.

Hello,

I have a computer that is stuck in a loop and won't boot into normal or safe mode. There is a blue screen flashing up, but way too quick for me to be able to see the STOP code.

The problem I have is that the American Megatrends BIOS 2.51, has an option on the boot screen "Press F8 for BBS Popup". Therefore I can't use the F8 key to get into the Windows XP Advanced Options menu. Why the hell has a BIOS manufacturer hijacked an important Windows key?????

I have also tried pressing the F8 key AFTER the BIOS screen, but even by doing that you still get a boot order list by pressing F8, and not the Advanced Options menu.

Does anyone know how to either:
1. Disable the Press F8 for BBS Popup in the BIOS? (I've looked, so has a workmate, but we can't see it)

or

2. Is there an alternative to using the F8 key to access the Advanced Options menu?

Hope someone can help.

A:Windows XP - Can't access Advanced Options menu (F8 key hijacked by BIOS)

If your keyboard has a "F-lock" key, press it before F8.

We're having a problem getting access to the BIOS (F10), Boot Menu (F9), etc from a new Elite X2 1012 G1. We deployed our Windows 10 image to it and now we're unable to access anything. We upgraded the BIOS from 1.14 to 1.16 but that hasn't fixed the issue. The tablet boots in to Windows everytime, happily ignoring our attempts to press F10 or F9. Anyone run into this before? We've got over 200 of these on their way in and it's going to be a nightmare if we can't fix this.

No, that is NOT the fastest computer to game on.  Here is a little primer ... E series devices are 'Entry level' products, designed for the casual user who wants to do the basics at a reasonable price.  These models are not targeted at heavy users like gamers, photo editors, video makers, etc.  For big time gaming power, take a look at the Predator line.  Now THAT is a gaming platform!

Hello, I have a remote user who has a Lenovo desktop with Windows 10. She is unsure which model it is. Windows fails to load (when windows loads the cursor just spins for hours and never loads). I want her to open the Advanced Boot Menu and run a "repair your computer" before windows start loading and I tell her to hit the f8 key repeatedly. This is not working. What is the key combination for Lenovo computers to get to the Advanced Boot Menu (Safe mode/repair) or is it F8 and just a Windows 10 issue with it booting too fast?

HI

Is it possible to overwrite my install of Windows 10 with a 8.1 by using the Advanced Start-Up option? I can get into the Windows 8 installer disc this way, but I want to make sure I don't screw aything up.

My Fujitsu T902 won't let me into the boot menu by pressing F12 anymore, it just beeps and loads up Windows normally. I'm wondering if this is some Win10 security feature or incompatibility with my computer. The computer came with Win8, but it wouldn't load after I tried installing Ubuntu. I couldn't find an official Win8 ISO so I used Win10 Beta, though I don't remember how I managed to boot into it.

I want a fresh install as I again tried installing Ubuntu via Advanced Start-Up. Then it booted into Ubuntu but couldn't load the Windows image. I managed to get back into Windows by adjusting my boot settings. Somehow the Ubuntu startup menu was able to get me into my boot settings menu, but no keyboard shortcut seems to let me in.

Hi,
I have a Dell 5010 and replaced the HDD after the original drive went faulty. I made a recovery drive on a USB flash so that I could do a reinstall after fitting the new drive. Anyway, after fitting the drive and restarting the laptop, it will not allow me to access the advanced boot menu. It just goes to a blank screen with a flashing cursor.
I have run the Dell diagnostics tool and there are no issues. This tool reported a faulty drive with the previous HDD which led to me replacing it.
Any suggestions?

After googling all about it, i think it is a power problem related to the laptop, and i see people saying to go into the Bios advanced options, and turn off the stuff in Power Management. But i cant seem to figure out how to get into my Bios' advanced settings. The bios info is-- InsideH2O, Version F 2.9 i believe.

A:Pavilion dv6-7135nr Advanced Bios access and SSD drive

By locked down you seem to think there is another whole layer of options available if you can just get some kind of access. Not so. The BIOS are just simplified for consumer laptops. What do you mean the SSD is not visible? What operating system are you trying to install and how? The storage controller is set to RAID and a Windows 7 disk, for example, will not see a hard drive until you introduce the right F6 driver to enable the storage controller.

So I fixed the issue for myself and just wanted to post in case somebody else had the same issue.  I took the following steps to fix the issue:[Background: BIOS is in "Standard" display mode to begin with; I had already updated the docking station's firmware first with a program called fwdphb03.exe and then with Lenovo's update utility.]1) In Windows, I uninstall drivers for the Intel Graphics and K1100 dedicated card.2) Restart, go into BIOS, switch to "Advanced" mode under the Display tab.  I also have the option selected to start up on the docks in the BIOS Display tab.3) Booted into Windows (8.1) and it looked like the Intel Graphics drivers were automatically downloaded. I then ran Lenovo's System Update utility to get the latest video drivers.  Under the optional tab in the Lenovo update utility, I selected the "Optimus" drivers and hit download/install.  It installed, and I had to restart.4) Booted into Windows again, ran Lenovo update utility again, and again it had a video driver to install when I checked for updates.  I installed that, had to restart again.5) Booted into windows, checked screen resolution and saw that no external monitors were showing.6) I then decided to get a driver straight from the source.  Downloaded: the following file from  Nvidia: 334.95-quadro-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe.  I ran the installation, it did a "Clean" installation with everything checked off. Hi all...

My Gateway Laptop (NV55S05u) had a Norton scan today and found a trojan virus that Norton could not remove. I restarted the computer to try to get it in safe mode, and when I restarted I got a black screen with just a cursor. I was able to get into the BIOS (F2) and also able to burn AVG rescue disk onto a CD and boot from that as I was unable to boot from a USB stick or SD card. I ran all the scans I could find and deleted the virus files off my system. I then created a Windows 7 recovery CD from a different functioning computer and booted from that disk. I was able to run startup repair, but then it doesn't finish. I don't get a chance to see why it doesn't finish because this stupid HP Recovery Manager pops up. Upon further research, I discovered it should have something that says "System Recovery" to reset back to factory settings. I can see it is there, but I am unable to click on it. I then tried doing a system restore back to an earlier point and it completes and has me restart. When I restart, I push F2 again to change the boot order so the computer boots from the hard drive first. When I do this, I just get the black screen with a cursor in the upper left corner of the screen. I am not sure what else to do at this point. I do not have the original windows 7 disk as I bought it pre-loaded on this laptop. This computer is only about 2 months old so I am freaking out. If anyone has any ideas I would be SO appreciative.

A:System will not boot, cannot use F8, cannot access advanced boot menu

You do not need to buy a new copy of Win7 as you own the one which came preinstalled on the Gateway for the life of the machine, and can reinstall it as often as you need and in any way you want via several methods.

First work through these steps for when Windows 7 fails to boot.

I should tell you that Norton and AVG raise red flags with the experts here - the better choices are in the steps.

Do you have a Win7 System Repair Disk to use as this is best to try the repairs?

If not you can download the latest official Win7 ISO download with SP1 for your licensed version and burn to DVD or write to flash stick using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool:
Win7 Home Premium x86 SP1 English Official ISO download

Use one of these disks for repairs given in the steps above, or if necessary to Clean Reinstall Windows 7 Factory OEM without the bloatware and useless factory utilities which have better versions in Win7.

You can also try running Gateway Factory Recovery by tapping the key given on first boot screen for Recovery, or order Recovery Disks from Gateway Tech Support which is included free for the first year along with a full parts and replacement warranty.

Also when I go into Error Recovery Console the same thing no controls whatsoever I can make, no arrow keys or hitting any keys work and I have to just sit there and let it choose whatever it defaulted to. I have re-installed Windows 7 but the problem persists. Would really appreciate your help.

A:Unable to access arrow keys or any controls in Error Recovery Console or access BIOS

I would suspect that your bios is not loading the keyboard or mouse, except for your only reference to the error recovery console? Do you mean you have the controls elsewhere, but not there?
But, if the loss is general, the quickest way is to reset the bios. You would normally do this by locating the small bios battery on the motherboard. Remove this and, in its vicinity (better if you browse or refer to a manual for the motherboard!) there will be a small three pin tag, with a joiner across two of the pins. Move the joiner to the other two pins for about one minute, This will return the bios to defaults. If you cannot locate this pin, you will have to leave the computer, with the battery out for quite a while - I would guess possibly over 24 hours, to reset the bios.
But, before, You do not say how you have tried to access the bios? (DEL on startup: F2 on startup are two choices)

Ok, having some strange problems..

On one profile I'm missing the start menu. I can access task manager with CTRL+ALT+DELETE, but I don't get any user names for the process'

On another profile there is a start menu but I just get an hourglass when I mouse-over it.

Hello everyone,I am unable to access the boot menu on my HP Pavillion laptop. I tried pressing ESC key after Power on and also through PC settings but none of it helped .  Pressing ESC key just shows "ESC...pause startup" message but didn't got to the boot menu. And if I stop pressing it , it just loads OS.

My fiance', whom currently lives out of state, is having problems with her computer and thinks that the problems are all due to viruses and/or spyware. She is unable to access her START menu, only having access to programs that exist on her desktop.

I am not educated at deciphering HJT logs and was hoping someone here may be able to assist.

I am unable to access the boot menu to allow boot from USB or DVD.  I have tried using the ESC key and just about every other key F2, F10, F12 and others.  When I turn power on I start taping the applicable key about once every second, I see the power light illuminated and I hear the hard drive running for a little while but the monitor stays blank, then the hard drive stops, the power light is still on but nothing happens. I have also tried using the Windows 10, settings "recovery" function same results.

Win 7x64
Acer-5251
Everything seems to be working fine, but as the title suggests, when i tap F8 the Advanced boot options DO appear, but when i engage "Repair Windows" it just goes into a normal boot. Ive tried booting from my installation CD that i've purchased from Acer, but does nothing. And Yes My CD Drive is working, as well having this set as top priority in BIOS and CD is in good condition.

In addition to this, ive tried using the "Advanced Recovery options" from within Windows itself but when i go to click restart computer, i get an error message, with red-x, stating windows is unable to restart.

Additional info that may be relevant, is that a few months ago, i had a friend work on my computer, because windows wouldnt boot at all. When My laptop was returned to me, everything was fresh, but there was missing programs etc...He said, he had to format the hard drive to get it up and running again.

Anyway i appreciate any help as to what i should i do next, or answer any questions you may have-Thank-you!

Hi so I got an Acer V5-571G laptop, and I am using Windows 8.0. After some month my laptop downloaded an official update for Windows 8.0, and when it got installed my laptop went into a lot of errors so my friend told me that he can format my laptop, but the problem my friend can't enter the boot menu or even the BIOS menu. We tried F8, F12, SHIFT+F10, boot button+F2, and it didn't get him into the BIOS or the boot menue. So, how can I enter the boot menu or BIOS if it's impossible becuase of my crashed Windows 8.0?

My Acer Extensa 5620Z originally came with Vista, then I clean installed Win 7, now upgraded to Win 8. Since the latest upgrade, I am unable to access BIOS or the boot menu. The black and white boot screen used to say to press F12 for boot menu, and something else for Setup, those messages are no longer there. And those key combinations do not work. I've also tried some other combinations I've found in searches - F2, Alt-F10, ctrl F10, alt ctrl F10, F8, del, esc. None work.

Could the upgrade has modified the firmware somehow? Boot screen says Phoenix bios, TrustedCore v1.32 - I think that is the same it has been.

Thanks

A:After upgrade, cannot access BIOS or boot menu

This is not exactly a solution but I do know if you hold your power button on your computer until It turns off and then turn it back on you will be able to get into your BIOS though I don't recommend this solution
