Q: Pc Boots but no signal

Recently tried to upgrade computer with a new motherboard and some ram, computer started with all fans spinning and lights on but no signal to monitor or power to keyboard and mouse. Took everything apart and put old mobo and ram in and now the same thing is happening! All fans on but no signal and no power to keyboard etc.
Was working perfectly fine the other day, any ideas on what is up with it?? Thanks very much!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Not too long ago I posted about an ongoing problem with my PC. The motherboard's northbridge chipset fan had failed, and it wasn't starting up, only showing a BSOD, or freezing. Eventually, all it would show was a blank screen - the fans would go on, and the power lights, for a while, as if it was starting up, but t wouldn't respond to attempts to shut it down. A Zalman passive heatsink solved the problem temporarily, but only a month afterwards, my PC was back to being unusable. Asus finally gave me a replacement chipset fan, and this ressurected my PC again, for a while. I also discovered that the vga port had not been tightly installed at the back of the case, allowing the graphics card to wiggle about, which apparently had been part of the problem.

But now, I'm getting a slightly different problem. This developed overnight, without any hanging or any of the other crash symptoms it had last time.

There is just no signal to the monitor. The PC seems to start up, fans on, hard drive noise, etc, and this time, it seems to actually be booting to windows - it responds to keyboard commands, its shared folders show up on the network, and I managed to play an mp3 with it using the run command. There is just nothing on screen.

I tried reseating the graphics card multiple times, each time, with the vga port tightly screwed in at the backplate. I tried a different monitor, I tried a different VGA cable, I tried using the DVI port instead of the VGA port, usi... Read more

I was on my Acer burning a DVD when it froze. I rebooted then after I logged on again I attempted to burn the DVD again. Needless to say, the blue screen popped up and shut down the computer. Now the PC boots but sends no signal to the mouse, keyboard or monitor. The speakers are powered by a computer's USB drive and they power up when I turn the computer on, but they make no sounds, like the Acers login screen. I called up Acer support but of course it's out of warranty when I only bought it in Feburary. I plan to take it into a computer shop but before I do does anyone know whats wrong with it and if there are any possible fixes? Feel free to ask any questions and thanks in advance.

So you guys are going to love this. Recently we hooked up an older unit (Lets call it CPU1), threw in some HardDrives... won't boot past BIOS. Safe mode, VGA mode, normal mode: nada. Figured maybe it was the windows install on said HDD's. Threw in a working HDD with a known working instalation of windows from (CPU#2) into (CPU1) and oh hey, same exact thing happens. Stupid old computer!!!!!!

So we shrug it off pop the HDD back into CPU2 and oh... now CPU2 is giving us the EXACT same problem. Boots past BIOS but will show no semblance of a Windows splash screen, just "No Signal" and CPU reboots.

I mean... WTP?! (What the PooP?!)

Ideas? Good Jokes? Help?

Hi all
I 've had a bit of a PC issue which came to head today. The pc is about 4 years old and had a new motherboard and psu, about a year ago. A couple of weeks ago it a problem started. Whenever it boots there is a continual slowinsh beeping sound right through boot up, but once booted works fine.

I decided to tackle the problem today and after reading a few forums I followed a hunch that it was either my graphics card or bad memory, neither of which are particularly new, so I started a process of elimination.

1) Took out the graphics card and blew off the dust - replaced it, now pc sounds like it's booting up, same beeping but now no video signal! - blank monitor screen, nothing...

2) After thinking oops, decided that I would take the card out again and check it was properly seated. same problem

3) Tried taking the RAM out and put it back in - same problem

4) Put a different graphics card in, which I know works fine - no change

I have DDR 2700 RAM and no other same speed available to check so I'm thinking it could be the RAM, does this sound right before I go out and buy some new RAM? or does it sound more serious?

I'd really appreciate any help.

A:PC Boots but no Video signal - not a new build

another thing

Probably quite an important omission, just forgot

When I took the graphics card out the first time, when I powered up i heard a feint poof type of noise followed by a familiar electrically burning smell ( to use the technical term) I sniffed inside the case and it appeared to be around the area of the graphics card & CPU. Difficult to accurately pinpoint.

In reply to above - my mobo is an asus a7v8x, had a look for beep codes but didn't find out anything to help yet.

A:Lose HDMI signal when Win7 boots up

Hi Dexxmann, welcome to Windows Seven Forum.

Have you loaded the software for the monitor, or it may need a driver update.

Is this the only monitor connected to your computer, if it is you could try using the DVI connection instead of the HDMI one. The DVI connection is generally preferred as the better option.

When I start my computer with drivers installed my monitor loses the signal when I should be receiving a log in screen. I can boot up fine in safemode and/or if I'm using Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. To my knowledge I do not have an onboard graphics card as there is nothing to plug an avi or vga cord into aside from my graphics card. I should also mention I tried using an NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT and experienced the same problem.
I am running 64 bit windows 7 and my graphics card is an NVIDIA GTX 560.

Boot into safemode and delete the nvidia drivers, then boot normally and install fresh drivers. Not 100% sure it'll work, but it's worth a shot.

I built my first PC that worked for a few months. Here's the problem:

PC was alseep-I woke it up-fans kicked on sounding like a jet trying to take off. Screen stays black no signal. I turn off PC and restart no signal.

I RMA the graphics card-new card-windows boots (I hear the windows chimes) no video signal.

I have changed monitors, graphics card, and multiple sets of ram. No dice.

I am confident in saying the problem was never the graphics card since a new one didn't fix the problem. However, I don't touch the PC for a week, I walk by one day and hit the power button and everything worked. For a few months now all has been good until last night.

Last night I wake up the PC and it sounded like a jet all over again-no video signal.

I have taken out the battery, re-seated the graphics card in a different PC I slot and tried the 'dram OK' button with no positive results.

I hear windows boot but no signal-any hew ideas for me?

Thanks in advance.

The computer boots up, I can access the UEFI bios and everything before but as soon as I try to let it go into windows, the point where the login screen usually opens up... instead it just blanks out and states no signal on my display.
I just refilled my watercooling loop and everything was working fine prior to this, I was worried that I did something to the video card but I dont think that would be the case since the display its connected to shows the post screen and the UEFI bios.

A:PC boots, shows bios, but "no signal" when going into Windows

The BIOS and Safe Mode both use a different graphics driver than the one used in normal operation.

I can boot fine in safe mode, then I tried disabling the display adapter and rebooted. This worked fine, turned it back on rebooted and it boots to black screen, then eventually says no signal and automatically reboots.

I'm guessing it's a driver issue? I did download the new nVidia driver for my card (GTX 570) but that was a few days ago, and it has been working fine up until today. So I don't really know what the issue is then.

Any body know how I would go about fixing this?

EDIT: Tried a clean installation of the latest nVidia drivers and still no luck.

Hi there,
I have a problem on my pc, an example would be when i would turn it on the morning the pc boots fine with a signal to the video, but when i turn it off and turn it on later on the same day, maybe 1 or 2 hours later, it boots fine and you can even hear the vista sound but theres no signal to the monitor, I tried restarting it using the power button to no avail, so finally frustrated, i turn it off, the next hours maybe 3 to 4, it starts up fine with the screen showing up. I dont believe it to be a video card problem because i can play games like devil may cry or dragon age to for 4 to 5 hours without any crashes or black screens. basically this happens only during bootup, but when it boots fine theres no problem whatsoever.
I'm not a hardcore gamer, i just play for fun
I hope this is not a video card problem
What seems to be the problem?
my specs are
windows vista32 starter home
P5Kpl-am se
2gb ddr2 ram elixir
1gb ddr2 ram elixir
500w power supply- newly changed
geforce 9400gt
160Gb HD

A:Solved: windows boots fine but sometimes theres not signal on monitor

Hi, first please unplug and then re-plug the video card on the board. If it doesn't work, you can check the power supply of the card. If possible, you can re-plug all the parts(RAM, video card etc.) in the case.
Btw, check whether the connection between ur monitor and the board is well.

Problem: My monitor is receiving no signal from my video card.

Video Card: XFX Geforce 8600 GT

It started after I had shut my computer down after playing Left 4 Dead 2 and went to work. When I returned home the same night, I turned on my computer only to discover that I did not have a signal on my monitor.

1. Only have 1 POST beep.
2. Tried removing RAM, but same problem.
3. Tried changing video cards. Got the same problem.
4. Turned the volume on my speakers up and waited to hear Windows fanfare which I did, leading me to believe the computer is booting up just fine.
5. Tested the monitor on another computer and it worked fine.
6. Tested a different cord that I know works and still nothing.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I have no onboard video, and I have tried using another PCI Express slot as well. I aslo reset the BIOS. no help =/

I am absolutely stumped, any help at all would be great. Thank you.

Hi folks!Unfortunately, my 2 year old pushed some buttons on my Lenovo B590 laptop and something isn't right. Upon start up (Windows 7 64), I get a black screen with a moving cursor. Ctrl+alt+del doesn't bring up the task manager.I double checked the boot order in BIOS and that looks OK.Restarting in Safe mode works.I also updated the video drivers, and (strangely) I was able to restart in normal and everything looked fine. However, when I restarted again after that, I was back to the black screen in Normal.I've been Googling all morning, and done what I've found. If anyone else has any other suggestions, I'd be grateful for them. And if you have any questions for me, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Ive got a few issues with my PC at the moment.

The first issue is that it boots twice before the third attempt which boots windows properly.

Once it does boot it seems to continually display Windows 8.1 Build 9600 on the bottom right screen of the desktop.

My computer also has an issue with the network adapters after it turns on. It doesn't display any adapters and the light where the ethernet cable usually lights up does not light up anymore when plugged in. Also the network adapter's folder is empty.

It is very difficult to find information due to the fact that I cannot acess the internet once my pc has booted due to the issues so finding a solution is difficult and posting specs of my pc is also difficult.

Im just worried maybe it is an issue with the power supply?

I recently got Comcast cable internet. I have 2 computers, the one downstairs (the one I am using now) has the wireless router and modem connected to it. The computer upstairs has a PCI wireless adapter.

The computer upstairs had a great connection for about... 1 day. Then yesterday, The internet upstairs gave out for like 2 hours (It couldn't receive the internet signal, but it could receive the router signal), then went back on again.

This time, It hasn't picked up the Internet transmission.. for like.. a long time. Anyone know what the problem is? Any help will be appriciated.. thanks.

Hello, I just noticed that my wifi signal bars stay at full bars and does not change even if the signal is truly low. I realized this only recently when I transferred to our bedroom which supposedly had the worst signal in the house, but the signal bar still stays at full. Whenever I click on it, the real signal will appear and does not currently match the one shown in the system tray icons.

My current wireless network adapter is Intel Dual Band Wireless AC-7265
Updated to Windows 10 Anniversary Update on August 17, 2016

Solutions I've tried but failed to fix it:
1. Uninstalling the wireless network adapter, restarting PC and scanning for hardware changes, although it did show the true signal for a second then went to full bars
2. Updating the wireless network adapter to no success in fixing it. Also tried rolling back the driver to the original one.
3. Turning Network system tray icons on and off in the windows 10 settings

And BEFORE doing that, I was also trying to fix various problems that also came with my laptop.

1. Updated Intel HD Graphics 530 and Nvidia drivers which seemingly fixed my BSOD problems that never again happened since then.
2. Updated my BIOS to the latest which fixed black screen/restarting problems when laptop wakes up from sleep.

NOTE: all the drivers ive installed came from the manufacturer's/model's support website for my specific laptop

You do not need to scribble out the names on that screenshot, since it will do nothing for any of us. That signal graphic is just like on a cellphone. It does not mean anything. There are a lot of factors why you can have great radio signal, but have interference causing a blackout or outage. If you want to see a snapshot of all signals your wifi adapter is seeing, open up a Command Window as administrator and type it 'netsh wlan show all'.

We have a nice signal from the router until about the same time each day. Only cable tv modem is available. Evidently the country neighbors do lots of internet during the afternoon.

Is there a way to boost the signal coming down the cable line ? The cable tv company has installed new cables from the pole into the house. We have installed all new cables in the house.

All of the boosters I've seen are for after the wireless signal gets to the cable modem.

Thanks !

A:wireless signal boost to help low signal from cable tv ?

This is a known issue with cable connections. When its not heavily used the signal, speeds can be good, but when it is used heavily things can deteriorate.

However, how do you know that the cable signal is changing? Unless someone from the cable company has measured the cable signal you don't know that is what is causing the problems. I don't think the signal level on the cable side will affect the wi-fi signal level on that side. They are two separate functions. If your wi-fi signal is deteriorating it has to be some other interference.

Going back to the cable signal level, I had a change every day around 1PM and the cable modem would lose sync. It turned out to be a bad underground cable between the main cable distribution amp and an intermediate amp in our neighborhood (every thing is under ground). It took a special crew to find and fix this, the tech that came to the house knew "nothing". I had to keep calling everyday when it went bad and after the problem went "chronic" then they got the cable crew on it.

My e-mail from AOL last night told me that my broadband had been enabled so therefore they have changed my payment accordingly which now means that anytime online I pay for per minute. The modem and software arrived this afternoon and since 4pm I have been getting more and more frustrated.
I followed all the instructions, I've done everything as instructed but I cannot get the broadband up and running. When I try and connect with it I get a 'DNS server unreachable or unavailable' error. To fix this I did as instructed, reactivated the connectivity settings which made no difference. I have checked the XP firewall settings and Norton Anti-virus settings, again these are fine. My brain however is no longer fine.

I run the diagnostic checks and these tell me that my phone line is busy. I don't understand this - there is no-one using the phone, which i even disconnected to test, nor do I understand anyway why a DSL connection should report a 'busy' line. I thought broadband was separate to your phone line because of the filter. And yes, i swapped the filter incase that was at fault. It told me to run a BT & and AOL DUN test, gave me the codes to type in following the 'connect' button asking for these codes, except there is nothing like that, just the status box which amazingly tells me that there is "No Signal" (something I figured out hours ago) and the two diagnsostic tests here, which upon trying to start, tell me that the... I have a strange problem.

When I press the power button it boots up as normal up until about 3/4 seconds into booting, it just shuts off automatically.

A few seconds after that, it boots up again automatically by it self and just does the same process. On inspection (I look in the case) I see that the CPU fan only spins once, thats for like 1 second then the 3/4 secs later the PC shuts down.

So lets break it down:
I press power button to turn it on
Computer boots up for 2 - 4 seconds (CPU fan spins for 1 or less second)
Computer shuts down
2 seconds later computer starts powering on
Repeat cycle until I shut down manually (pull plug/hold down button)
Let me just give ya'll a bit more of a back story. Recently I have been having quite a few problems. Computer shut down and wouldnt be turned on. We decided to buy a new powersupply ToughPower 500w over my poop SUNPRO 470w. That wasn't the problem - it was the graphics card. So we had to DOWNGRADE as a tempoary from the 8800GT to the 8300GS.

Motherboards, or some motherboards have some electrical charge even when turned off...looks like there is a technical problem that is making the motherboard get more juice than it is supposed to, and it causes the unexpected boot-up. Any ideas? Am I wrong?

I opened my PC last night to clean it and now it's not working. I removed the RAM and reseated it as I was getting long continuous beeps after the clean. It had been worked loose even though I had been very careful. This solved the problem of the continuous beeping and so I presume that this problem has been sorted. I checked the graphics card, reseated that also just in case, and it seems ok as in when I unplug the monitor it asks for a connection and when I plug it back in it seems okay. Changed graphics cards but still nothing on screen.
The Motherboard is powering up okay but I'm not getting anything on the screen. Changed monitors and I'm still getting nothing.

When I power up the PC it seems to boot okay but I'm not seeing anything on the screen.

I've removed the graphics card but I am not getting any beeps on reboot??

Then I removed the RAM to see am I still getting the continuous beeps but nothing either ??

Seems to be going from bad to worse.

Any solutions??

Hello everyone!
My wife's laptop has been dead for the last couple months. It's old.... Samsung Sens P10. It was stuck in an endless reboot loop, so I tried to reformat it using a Windows cd. Unfortunately, the CD drive is broken, so I made a USB Boot/Install using WinToFlash.

Everything installed ok, and the computer is running fine now. The only exception is that I need to use the USB everytime to boot up the computer. I know this isn't horribly inconvenient, but I used my 16gig flash drive that I often use, and I don't have another one handy.

If I don't put the flash drive in, I get a message about a problem with my disk hardware. It can't read the disk and have to check my booting hardware. I am sorry, but it's a Korean OS and I am not fluent in Korean.

Thanks for the help in advance.

I installed windows 7 on a brand new hd from a usb. It will boot up normally with the usb stick. If I remove it, I will get a blinking cursor. If i go to the bios and load up from the hd I get a blinking cursor. I have tried the startup repair yet no errors were found. Does it have something to do with the reserve partition having a different drive letter assigned ?

I installed linux after the problem hoping that grub would fix the boot problem. It gives me the option to load windows from 2 spots but neither will load without the usb. Linux loads up fine.

I am stumped. 2days trying to get this to work. Reinstallation failed to fix it as well.

I removed the drive letter from the reserve partition and windows still will not boot without the usb

Boots, there is no malware apparent in the log. You might want to open Task Manager (right click on the task bar, select Task Manager), then the Processes tab and see if anything is using excessive CPU time. You should see 'System Idle Process; at 90+%.

I'm kind of frustrated right at the moment.

I came home from work tonight and found my PC had shut down. When I rebooted, all the icons had shifted over to the left, and the first thing I noticed after that was that my antivirus wasn't running.

If I click on any icon except the short cut to my computer, I get the spinning cursor and then ... nothing happens. at all. no error, no program. just nothing.

I am able to get into internet explorer via going to the directory and clicking on the executable - however, nothing else runs via this method. I can access all my drives. I have unplugged the USB flash drive and have only the onboard drives connected.

There are no programs listed in the task manager, and nothing suspicious in the processes list (other than a surprisingly large number of SVCHOST tasks - about 8 or 9 of them).

I can't run AVG to scan for viruses, I can't run malwarebytes or hijack this.

One site I tried (from my partner's PC) suggested deleting the user account and creating a new one. Tried that. didn't help. Another suggested using regedit to alter two registry entries - but the entries didn't exist in my registry.

At this point I'd be out buying a new drive to re-install on, except that it's 11:30pm and nothing's open.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Welcome to SevenForums Azhdragon,
Have you tried booting in safe mode and doing a system restore? You could also try running your av and malwarebytes from safe mode. Give pushing f8 or f10 at boot a try for safe mode or safe mode with networking so you can update your av's. Good luck to you with this problem.

I haev a refurbished T42 laptop. It was working all day, and suddenly the screen went blank as if hibernating. I was loading a CD to rip into iTunes, so oculd have hit a function key or something. The laptop was hooked up to an external monitor at the time, and that went blank - I thougth I just pulled to cord out to the monitor since it was only plugged in temporarily. Could not get it to respond to anything. Had to unplug and remove battery to power down. Disconnected internet, external monitor and all other accessories. On reboot, windows starts, an I get to what aperas to be my normal desktop - but nothing will run from here, inlcuding the start menu. Icons onlower right of screen are not what normally loads, so I wonder if windows is not booted all the way? The power and battery light are on, and the hard drive indicator light is steady on (not normal). Help!

A:IBM T42 Boots, won't run anything

seriously not a joke, you didnt buy this off someone in the park right?
once ran into someone who bought an ibm with "xp" and it was windows 98 with an "xp theme" including xp splash for boot time. LOL. but no joking. ibm's have serivce tags like dells which on the website will tell you what os they are supposed to come loaded with. if your unit has a non- properly licensed os, we will not help you here =\ but if your specs support xp go out and buy a copy. sometimes newegg has em on sale for a few bucks less !!!
i only mention this as refurb units are poping up like rabid bunnies everywhere without correct licensed os's on them. ibm should also have diagnostic software for your model on their site as well.
model t42 came in ALOT of flavors.
good luck

I recently bought a new pc and every since it seems to go down hill.

It has recently started to not boot up on the first try.

The power light will come on and the fan on the power supply and processor will start up, but the hard drive does not start.

The screen just sits their with no signal.

After a few tries the pc will power up completely, but windows freezes and I have to reboot it and then it works.

Now, this week the pc will not boot at all ,not even after a few tries. The fan and power supply activate and even the dvd drive, but that is all.

PC specs:

Intel Pentium 4 2.4gz

512 megs of ram

windows xp service pack 2

dvd/ cdrw drive

I have a 3 or 4 year old pc that runs 5x better than this new machine.

I did not want to go out and buy a new power supply if that is not what it is.

I emailed the tech support people who made the machine.

They said service pack 2 can cause the pc to hang after installation.

The pc ran fine after installation of service pack 2, this began a few weeks after sp2 was on the machine though, so I do not think that is the problem at all. Besides, even if windows was the problem wouldn't I still get a screen signal from the pc.

My PC boots up by itself some time later after I have powered it down.
I have a Gigabyte GA-7ZM motherboard, 600MHz Duron, Nvidia Riva TNT2, W2K pro. I have tried playing with the ACPI/power management settings and Wake-on-LAN settings in the BIOS but to no avail. This PC worked fine witn w98. Never booted up by itself. I installed w2k pro and applied sp3 last week and I noticed that the PC was booting up by itself every day some time after I power it off completely. Besides unplugging the power cord, I don't know how else to fix this.

I have also de-selected the reboot automatically option in the Startup and Recovery section of System in Control Panel but it didn't help.

Any other ideas? Anyone know what the problem is?
