I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is not the first time this has happened, where having opened the laptop to tablet mode, a cable appears to have come loose. This means that the laptop no longer recognises that the laptop is back to laptop mode, so it doesn't reactivate the keyboard. Lenovo last time fixed this saying it was a fault with the assembly, but it has happened again, this time out of the 12 month warranty, and 3 months since it last happened. I really expected better quality of manufacture and the repair seems to have been very poor. This is my work laptop and the only computer I got, and any time spent without it is crippling to my work. I am currently using an external keyboard, which means working on the move is very inconvenient. I have a YOGA 51014ISK Is there a way for me to ask Lenovo to fix their repair mistake? I seem unable to find a proper way to contact/complain regarding this. I am not happy that I have to pay for repairs again for the exact same issue so quickly after the last "fix".  Otherwise, is there a repair guide I can follow to fix this myself? I didn't see one, and I'll need to reconnect the keyboard wire inside. Thanks for your time.

Your description sounds more like an operating system problem, not recognizing a sensor.  Obviously, I cannot see the machine so I cannot be sure.

I have a SATA hard drive and the cable end that connects to the Hard drive (not the MB) keeps coming loose and the computer does a memory dump and locks up. Open the computer, push the cable back tight and all is fine. Have tried two new SATA cables but after awhile they do the same. How hair brained is putting a little bit of electricians tape on the cable that will hold it in tightly? Any ideas?

hi
i've had a used (eb*y) simpletech 320gb external hard drive since jan and been using it with a replacement mini b w/ dual usb male cord (also eb*y) ...i think it's worked okay (maybe there have been some subtle abnormal noises, i don't know - the other day, before anything "happened", i think i heard a sound like it kept spinning up, winding down, spinning up ...very faint and, brief)
...well, now something is definitely wrong because - i *think* the usb cable had stayed in fairly okay but now, either i've damaged the drive by keeping it plugged in for too long periods, or by accidentally pulling the cord out because... now the drive keeps disconnecting itself and will no longer be detected by my computer if the cord is disturbed at all--now so bad, i can't have it on my laptop on my lap or just ~breathing~ will cause it to disconnect. (and, thinking the cord was just loose, i tried to push it in and, THAT caused it to disconnect another time...)
i've tried to look for info about this problem before asking of you but in my situation it's the, keeping it plugged in for too long periods or accidentally disconnecting the cord, or pushing it in that time that makes me worried i've physically damaged the drive...
do you think i should try just duct taping the cord in place (but not TOO firmly) and/or a replacement cord .........or do you think i've caused something to come loose and may have really damaged the drive?

I bought this laptop a year and a half ago and have been very careful with it, I've never dropped it, or taken it many places, but a few month ago I noticed the bottom right edge of the back over wasn't attached so I just popped it back in, it wasn't a big deal so I didn't worry about it.  Then yesterday it popped back off again but this time it was much bigger and I couldn't pop it back in no matter how hard I tried! I took it to staples to see if they could fix it and the guy there said it would take 2-3 weeks and 300$ I can't afford that, and I just bought this laptop last year!  Everything else about it still works fine, the screen isn't cracked, and the keys still work.

Hello again. I'm not sure if I'm putting this in the right category or not. My monitor cord is coming loose from my tower. The screws that the video cable screws into are missing. Can I buy those separate online or do I need a whole new tower or what, and what are they called?

Thank you

A:loose video cable

Interesting question.

They are just called DVI connector screws, or VGA connector screws to me. Although I believe they are called "Shoulder Screws" by some.

There are a few ways you can handle it:
cannibalize an old VGA or DVI cable and take the screws. (they are actually bolts - no pointy end like a screw)
Use off the shelf screws from a hardware store. You'd need to determine the bolt size and length which means buying 2 of various sizes to be sure you bring home at least one set of workable ones. I'm guessing they are metric bolts and I would start at about 4-40 size and 1/4 inch longer than the length of the plastic shoulder.
Best solution: buy a new VGA or DVI cable with the screws on it. They are relatively cheap!

I ordered this cable:

It doesn't like this drive:

Any tips to keeping the cable plugged in?

Strange, I suppose good old vinyl electrical tape should be able to hold in place on the drive until you can find a cable that connects better.

Hi All,

I was trying to change the PSU on my PC, as I was taking the PSU unit out, i found a loose cable that said, CPU, don't pull, it's not the CPU power connector since that is still in the Mobo, and i think it belongs to my CPU thermostat, since I have a digital readout on the front of the PC, the question is, Where does it go!!!?? I am freaking out here. Ironically, it says "CPU don't pull". the cable itself terminates in a plastic end with two very fine filaments.

Also, I lifed the CPU fan levers, but did not take the fan off. Will this be ok to put back down? or do I now need to get more thermal paste?

If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. I am a newbie.

Thanks

A:Help I am a newbee! loose thermostat cable on CPU

That cable is most likely the Thermostat , that filament end gets taped to the underside of the heatsink as close to the cpu as posible.
Although I doubt that you would need to clean and then reapply Thermal paste, if YOU are very certain you did not dislodge the seal between the CPU and the Heatsink. If there is any doubt in your mind I suggest cleaning and then reapply to be sure.
The only way to know if you are wrong could be devastating.

Hi. I have ThinkPad T520 and the power cable socket became loose so that it's easy to move the plug sideways. This causes the charger stop charging because (I guess) there is now too much space in the socket, I think the plastic (or rubber or whatever the material is) has been rubbed away after so many years.I know that the socket can be replaced, but that is additional cost I would like to avoid. I have a tricky idea to wrap around the matel plug ending with aluminum foil so that it fills the space. Do you think this will work? Is aluminium right here - won't this break anything? I just want to make sure, thanks. Just a similar image showing the problem that I googled:

Anyone else ever have this issue with older laptops or any advice? The laptop is still a useful machine, just the loose conenction.

All machines are set to the same workgroup. I use Norton internet security and have entered the adapter ip's as trusted. I disabled Norton to check for problems there. I still had the same problem. If I disconnect the cable modem, the machines will slowly find and recognize each other again.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Ok, i took apart the said laptop in order to clean out the fan. When finally i had reassembled it, the screen worked but it had pixelated strips on the screen and blue screened when it got to log in.
I opened it again instantly, and checked the auxillary clamps; nothing changed but now the screen doesn't turn on at all.
A little puzzled, i plugged in an external monitor. Once again, it works but has the same strips i spoke of above.
I suspect it's a loose cable problem, but thought i'd post and get other oppinions?

Sometimes you just can't get good help anymore. I work at a company that constantly has problems with a corporate color printer - it's an Oce cm3520 with a Fiery controller. The printer tech came in and found a professional way to fix the cable so that it does not become loosened from it's connection since it cannot be screwed into the unit for whatever reason we are not even sure of. I just had to post this because not only was I angry, but it's funny too.

Is it normal for some of the hinges to be slightly loose on the yoga 900? I wasn't sure since not all of them are loose. Also, I have one of the caps on the edge loose as well which I can take off and put back on (without it falling off easily). Not sure if it's worth sending it in... still on warranty. There is no cracking sounds etc. though and it is working properly.

A:Yoga 900 Hinge Loose Cylinders?

It might be best to send it in to get the entire hinge replaced under warranty. See this thread about the same issue on a Yoga 3 Pro where Amy of Lenovo suggested this course of action:

Sinca a year or so, I got more and more often a problem with all my USB-Ports. If I use a cable to connect e.g. an arduino, I very often loose the USB-connection (I sometimes get the Win sound for connecting or diconnecting). If I slightly move the cable, I can sometimes cure the problem. But since a few weeks, this is seldom the case. I can not remember that I have these prblems with usb-sticks and usb hdds, but can not guarantee that this is true.  I bought the laptop because I thought this would be a good investment and that I will be able to use it for a few years. I do not have these problem on cheaper and older Laptops and PCs. The cables are definitely OK. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this problem? Thanks!

I've had my Yoga since it came out a few months ago and in the last few weeks I noticed that the bottom cover is loose and creaking. What I mean is, I can press on the corners of the bottom cover right under the palm rests and they move by a few milimiters. The two screws in the corners are NOT loose, in fact they are as tight as it gets, but they're clearly not holding the cover down tightly enough, almost as if they should be screwed in tighter or just be shorter. My buess is that whatever padding is under the cover got squished and now there is too much clearance. Anyone else have this problem? I could shim the screws or maybe try to stick something under the cover to press it against the screws, but I haven't opened the system yet as I'm already unhappy with this laptop for other reasons (flickering keyboard light, **bleep**ty Linux support, etc.)Thanks.

Oh please! Not again!

This is the third laptop you have had in 3 weeks, and we have almost lost count of the number of threads you have started such as this! (actually its 40+, but who's counting...)

Keyboards make noises.

If the laptops were made of solid metal then no flexing or noises would result. But you couldn't lift them either. They are made light because thats the way people want them. Except for you perhaps?

Perhaps you should take it back and get #4?

I recently purchased the latest Yoga 900 from the Canadian Microsoft store (online).  It is the only option for a 2-in-1 in Canada that you can order with 16GB RAM + 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD.  The laptop arrived quickly and everything is working as expected.  On the centre of the wristwatch hinge there is a type of mesh that goes from front to back that covers a portion of it. The mesh is not centered properly on my unit and it slightly protrudes out of the back of the hinge.  I realise that this is a minor issue, but I'm within Microsoft's 30 day return/exchange period.  The hinge does not appear to be loose, but i've only had the laptop for 3 days now. I took some pictures to help illustrate the issue and I'm curious to see if anyone else has noticed the samething.??????

I'm using an HP DV6663CL laptop; it's only a few months old. For the most part it works great, except the left shift key on the keyboard feels strange. It's as if it's loose, and it seems as if it "grinds" against something when pressed - it works as it should, but the feeling si very disconcerting. I've tried blowing it out with canned air, but no dice.

Anyone have any idea what this is, or if it's possible to remove the key to check without risking damage to the keyboard like on other laptops?

A:Shift key on keyboard feels loose/grinds?

I had a similar problem and I poped the key off and inspected the key and below and cleaned it all out, worked great after. Be carefull poping the key off try to use a small flat head or butter knife to get under the key and pull it up You will see a little mechanism and a rubber button. If the button feels stiff when you press it down then the KB itself is bad. If its fine check the metal device, clean it and make sure it moves free. It should just pop right back on.

Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong place. Feel free to move it to the appropriate forum.

Ok, my problem is that whenever I switch the computer on it comes up with 'video cable connected?' even though it is clearly in.

So this afternoon I opened the back of the computer up to see if it was anything internal. And lo and behold there were 4 cords/cables/plugs out of place (by out of place i mean not connected anywhere).

These were P2, P3, P7, P8. Now I don't know the function of them, nor really care, but i just want to know where they go exactyl in the tower. I've been trying to find a place where they can go but i havent been able to find it.

Its an old HP Pavillion 8600/9600 model.

Any idea where they go? As I think they may be the problem.

When I turned the PC back on, everything comes up with the exception of the monitor which displays a moving box labeled "Analog" instead of "Digital" and another box that says, Check Cable Signal or Check Signal Cable (can't remember). I called Samsung support and was told to change to 75hz and 1440/9?? resolution. I have connected the two with analog cables and it worked fine. I'm sure when I moved the monitor I more than likely pushed on the buttons underneath the front of the monitor which adjusts the settings. Samsung support again told me to adjust the monitor using the menu keys on the monitor. I would be glad to do this but nothing is displayed to know what I'm chanigng it to. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.
