Dell Precision T5600 network boot

Q: Dell Precision T5600 network boot

I have a new Dell Precision T5600 workstation with A11 bios. I want to use network boot. F3 does not work. Going into the bios system setup (with F12) and changing the boot sequence to put the onboard NIC first did not work. Any clues?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Never mind, I stumbled across the bios setting. The Onboard NIC has to have PXE enabled before it will show up as a boot target.

This is how I got my T5600 to work from a SSD SATA connected to a PERC 310H card and boot as UEFI. It can also be a SAS drive. In this example I was only using a single drive and have not attempted a RAID setup.

I may have skipped some parts where you have to reboot. If I refer to the BIOS settings then you would have to reboot first.

1. Setup hard drive as a NON-RAID drive. When booting it will appear as BIOS handled and NON-RAID.
2. Download the Windows 10 installer onto USB using Microsoft Media Tool.
3. Download the DELL T5600 Payload for T5600 and BIOS files (if needed). Install latest DELL BIOS if you have an existing older OS.
4. Unzip the DELL driver payload onto the USB drive for Windows 10 and leave inside a folder called T5600.
5. Using a rear USB slot that is NOT USB 3. Go into F2 and load the USB stick under UEFI, it may have a strange name if the BIOS is old (such as INT13). Saqve changes. Reboot. Boot from the USB stick.

6. Make sure the drive you are working on does not contain data you want to keep. Ideally you would disconnect any drive you dont want to accidentally alter.
When given the option to select a hard drive, if necessary, delete any previous partitions so the drive is without any partitions. Then click the * NEW button.
7. After clicking NEW it MUST generate 4 partitions, 3 system partitions + 1 OS partition (made by Windows installer). If it only has 2 partitions it will never work as a UEFI boot volume

Hello
I just swapped out a e5-2603 CPU and installed a e5-1620 CPU in a Precision T5600.  The PC will not boot, and prior to a forced entering to bios setup, it gives a warning/error
"Your dell current power supply does not support the recent configuration changes made .."
My PSU is a 635W - this should be sufficient, yes??
So is the 1620 not compatible with this model?
thanks for any help, david

I have search for many hours for answers to questions on new Graphics Cards which require 8pin and 6 pin or 8pin and 8pin power connections aside from the motherboard supplied power and what the appropriate method was to connect the GPU cards to the 8 pin pcie power connections. This is complicated by the fact that the Precisions seem to only have 6pin cables installed with the towers regardless of the power supply that is installed.   Yes. Everyone understands hopefully that if you have, for example, a 450 watt power supply ( forget the efficiency aspect of the actual power supply) as I am interested in the mechanics of the  design.
The power supply connects to a PC board, which appears to be called "Power Supply extended card"
Now, looking at the connectors on this extended card, there is a "POWER_VGA1" 8pin connection on this extended card (bottom left black socket).  To this 8pin connector, on my T5600 and seemingly on all the others that have made similar inquiries, we all have a 8pin male connector that fit into the extended card. My 8pin connector has two sets of wires leaving the connector and becoming two 6 pin connectors, one of which 6pin connectors is plugged into my stock Quadro 5000 video card.
OK. So, now most people are wanting to change out the 6pin Quadro card with either an 8pin or 8 pin plus 6pin or 8pin and 8pin graphics card such as a GTX 980TI or GTX 1080 or GTX 1070 or AMDs similar card.

Hello,
I'd like to build a custom power pc from GN6JF Dell Precision T5600 Motherboard System Board. I bought this system board from eBay. The power sockets look like standard socket but I'm not sure I can use with a normal Cooler Master Gold 1000 Watts power supply. I already created few ATX socket adapter for other server motherboards, just I need a pinouts for power socket and for front panel connector too.

I have downloaded all manuals what I founded to this workstation and system board but did not find any informations about sockets.

If anyone know any link or information on this topic, please help me?

A:GN6JF Dell Precision T5600 System Board pinouts?

Pinouts are never published by Dell.  This information is not available.
One is likely an EPS12v 8 pin connector.  The other is 12v only.  Which is which is anyones guess.

Hi,
I have gotten a hold of a Dell T5600 workstation and wanted to know if it was possible to boot on this chipset using the PCIe slots. Specifically I want to use an NVME m.2 SSD with a PCIe adapter.
I would think that seeing as this card came with a raid card (perc 301?) and you could boot from it then you should be able to boot from any PCIe based storage but I want to make sure before I buy the drive.
Thanks

My T5600 came with a single Xeon E5-2609.  I purchased two, Xeon E5-2650 (non-ES) as an upgrade.  I also purchased a second, Dell/Prescision-specific fan/heatsink.
With both cpu's installed, the system will post and both cpu's are recognized in the bios (A14.)  Once I attempt to boot into the OS, the system will either go into a power/boot loop or lock up and require a hard boot.  Thinking I might have a thermal issue, I verified both fans were running OK.  I forced the fans into high mode and the boot/loop continued.  The reboot even happened during the onboard diagnostics.  Having ruled out a thermal issue, I considered that I might have a bad cpu.  I tested each one (standalone) and the system boots into Windows just fine.  I have even swapped the 32gb of ram, just to make sure.  Which leads me to my last suspect: the power supply.  This system has the 635w power supply and I'm wondering if I now need to go to the 825w model.
Thoughts?

Hi All,
I recently bought a Dell T5600 second hand, which came supplied with a
Quadro 5000 graphics card. I want to upgrade the graphics card to a GTX970,
the card fits inside the case fine but I noticed that the T5600 only has 1 PSU

needs 2 PCIE power supplies.

Is there some sort of adapter I need to buy in order to provide the 2 PCIE
power supplies or do I need to get a new power supply ?

Many Thanks for your time

There have been many threads about sourcing a heatsink alternative for the T3600 / T5600 / T7600.
Having acquired several used T5600 workstations at a very low cost, I had the idea to make all of them dual processor machines. There appeared to be two obstacles to this idea.
1/ The latched fan connector
2/ The ILM is not the most common variant. The ILM is the pressure latch holding the CPU into the socket. Various ebay sellers describe it as a latch, socket, holder .. in fact it is an ILM.
Lets go through this one step at a time.

Heatsink fan and its connector
The connector DELL use on the PWM Heatsink fan is a standard connector. Due to the cyclonic forces created by the DELL heatsink, the resistance of the fan connector latch is the only force capable of resisting the gusts of wind driven by 15-30 cubic feet per minute (cfm) of volume.
However, the resourceful sellers of ebay / newark / digikey / element14 have a solution. For the non-DELL heatsinks using the flimsy PWM connector in a 4 pin housing there are two options.
1/ Cut off the standard connector, or,
2/ Purchase an adaptor / converter cable.
Even though I have the crimping tools / pins / housings I opted for the second option. This meant I didnt have to waste much time. My main reason was that I had many of these to do and I only had 20 crimp pins.
These adaptor cables are called "dell fan latch" (works as a keyword bundle)

Hi all,
I'm 99% sure the PSU on my T5600 just went bad. It's out of warranty now so I was curious: Must I replace the PSU with a Dell Precision specific unit? Or can I use any modular supply that can has two 8-pin CPU cables and a 24-pin mobo cable? This would be much cheaper. And I saw a thread that recommended an aftermarket PSU to another precision owner, but I forget what model they had. Thanks!

I don't see a Precision 960 listed -- is this an Optiplex 960?  Or is it a Precision 690?
If it's a Precision 690, the very first thing to look for is the presence of bad or leaking capacitors on the mainboard - particularly near the memory socket and CPU socket.  If any are bulging or leaking a brownish substance, the mainboard will need to be replaced.  These systems were very well known for capacitor failures.
There's a set of four diagnostic LEDs on the system -- what pattern of off/green/amber shows on those?

Yesterday, it took several tries to boot the desktop, and I noticed that the green light on the CD drawer often kept flashing even after I had been successful. I ended up using a paper clip to open the drawer and left it open for the remainder of the day.

Today unable to boot successfully.
At one point screen showed some brief text, I believe whatever is typical at starting up sequence, but this immediately went dark. It seemed like the CD drive and drawer were trying to be accessed.

After several abortive attempts, I did a text message with something like
I believe Checksum error or Sum error but very far from being completely sure on what error code.
Previous attempts at starting computer have failed, please contact Dell for support.
While yesterday I had been successful at some point in getting CD tray to stay in the open position, and not keep closing - today I have been unable to do so.

============
At some point I should replace this old machine. If I can get it up and running again, I expect that I should take the CD drive out of the boot sequence (or put it after C drive).

I do not have any bootable CD at the office, and not sure if I have one at home either (this is computer I used to use at home and now have in office).

I am trying to get my computer to boot up using only one hard drive. Currently it will only boot up
if all 3 drives are connected. I am sending a screenshot of the disk management screen so
someone with know how can diagnose why all 3 are interconnected and need each other.
I bought a stand alone drive copier to copy my hard drive to a larger drive. I would like to make the copy of the "C" drive on the 250 gb. drive shown but I think if I change something on that drive the comp. will not boot at all.
I hope that i conveyed this so that people can understand because it is somewhat confusing. My computer skill level is decent but i need assistance on this.
I would add a second drive once I clear this up.

Thanks,

Joe

A:dell precision 380/ win 7 / 3 hard drives all needed to boot

Because you have all three drives with a partition marked Active. Windows thinks all three are needed for boot when they're marked active. You need to mark the other two partitions on other two drives as "Inactive". Leave drive C "boot" partition as active.

Partition - Mark as Inactive

Hi,
I just got a new Precision 7510 and can't figure out how to get it to enable numlock automatically on boot.
I checked the BIOS and that is enabled already.
I would like this as I am running WIndows 10 and it is setup to login with a numeric PIN.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks,
Jim

So I got the TB16 to use with my Windows 10 Precision 7510. I've had issues with the USB devices dropping out randomly but I seem to have got that under control (for now). I'm having another issue of sorts. Updated the BIOS then went into the BIOS changed restart/shutdown to "thorough" and checked "thunderbolt adapter boot support" and "thunderbolt adapter pre boot modules" as I wanted to boot from a USB DVD drive that was connected to the TB16. But when I tried to boot the laptop got stuck on the Dell logo and wouldn't go into POST. I tried diagnostic boot and got the same result. Couldn't get far enough to press F2 or F12. When I disconnected the TB16 and powered on the laptop it booted up fine. I could then connect the TB16 and it would work fine. But if I tried to restart with the TB16 connected I had the same issue. I eventually unchecked "thunderbolt adapter boot support" and "thunderbolt adapter pre boot modules" just so I could restart without having to disconnect the TB16 (I don't know which of the two options is causing the booting issue though). I can get by without booting from the TB16 but I got it partly for that reason so would to get it working if I can. Any ideas?

It might be if the devices are intermittent, they would exhibit problems during a Pre Boot Scan.

You are wanting to boot a UEFI capable DVD, such as the Win 10 Install media, connected to the TB16?  If that is the case, I can test to see if I can do it.  I am wondering if the Thunderbolt is connected to the PCIe bus if any device there will be checked for boot compatibility.
I suppose you can boot from that USB DVD when connected directly to your system?

Morning,
I am looking to replace my processor in my T5600. However, I am having a difficult time finding out what is compliant. Here is the info I know:
I currently have a Intel Xeon ES-2609 0 @ 2.4Ghz and a Dell 0Y56T3 Main Board.
I am only utilizing one slot of the two available, so would like to buy a pair. The socket set is FCLGA2011 for each.
I was looking possibly putting 2 of the ES-2906 V2 (Mfg # BX80635E52609V2)
However, not sure the differences between the V1 and V2. Does any know if this will work? Or what would be a good upgrade? \
Thanks.

Hi everyoneI bought last week DELL T-5810 workstation. It has Xeon E5-1620v3 (3.50GHz) , 16GB RAM (DDR4 – 2133MHz), 1TB / 7200rpm and I added an TRANSCEND SSD 220S TS480GSSD220S, 480GB, SATA III, 2.5' on it.
I have clean install of windows 10 on it.
My problem is: Whenever I press power button to start the computer, it take 27 seconds (measured with stopwatch) to display the DELL logo and 1 minute to get until the windows lock screen.I tried to change different settings in the bios (i have the latest bios version A16), without any luck. I run diagnostic tests from bios and on dell website , but all tests are passed, and no matter what I did, the DELL logo is always shown after 27 seconds. Also, I found this post which is for laptop machines, but the issue that people are describing here, are prety much the same with mine. Ho help from ther either. When computer starts, it is very, very fast, and I have no complains there. But it is not acceptable for +$2000 computer to boot in 60 seconds. At hime, I have 2 other DELL work stations at home (2 and 3 year olds), which boot in less than 15 seconds. Can anyone help me to resolve this issue?

Hi, I am having an issue with my Dell Precision T5600.  When I power it on, I am seeing nothing on my monitor (not even the BIOS).  I have tried swapping out video cards (thinking it may have been a bad video card), but even then I am not getting anything on the screen.
I do notice the front indicators are light up with 1,2,3 lit up in an amber color.  (see attached photos). .
I notice when I start up the computer, the lights go in the indication as follows: (3) (4)
(3)
(1) (2) (3)
(1) (2)
(1) (2) (3)
I was able to one time get to the bios, but then said it had no boot device (though 2 hard drives were setup).  See photos.  Anyone know why this would be happening?

I want to install a new SSD Samsung V-nand 850 EVO in a Dell Precision M6500.
I clooned the hard drive. The bios is AHCI.
When i boot the SSD from the Dell Precision M6500 i got the message "inaccessible boot device"
When i boot the same SSD from other Dell (par exemple Inspriron R17) the disk is booting with no problems
The prosed repair didn't worked, the SSD is recognized in the BIOS and DOS-prompt accessible (letters X en E).
So i think it should be a BIOS problem or a driver issue.

Any idee how to solve the problem ?

A:Dell precision M6500 and new SSD Samsung V-nand 850 EVO - INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE

Was the drive cloned in AHCI mode?  Once the cloning was done, did you remove the original hard drive and install ONLY the cloned drive for the first bootup?

I've got a Dell Precision 7710 with the Dell Precision Optimizer. It works great for when I'm using AutoCAD Civil 3D in setting up the laptop for optimization by turning off 2 cores and increasing the clock speed of the processor.
Unfortunately I also do programming with Virtual Machines. When I'm in this mode I want all 4 cores to share the load instead of 2 cores.
Is there a workflow available to go from one profile to no profile? Do I have to do a restart to switch between profiles? So if I'm doing CAD work and then switch over to programming do I have to turn off the AutoCAD profile to no profile and the restart the computer? I tried turning off the profiles and nothing changes for the cores.
Is there a way to create my own profile? Or should I pick one like 3ds Max that would utilize more cores?  Or should I not use it since it won't meet my needs?
Thanks.

I have had several Dell Laptops (D630, D830, E6410, E6510, Precision M4500), and with the D630 and E6410 Dell was VERY helpful after the warranty expired (in one case by 5 months).. even replaced a system board or 2 since tons of people were reporting issues similar to mine on the D and E series.

NOW
on my Precision M4500, I called Dell 1 day (24 hours) after the warranty expired.

Issue: The system would REFUSE to boot past the dell BIOS splash screen.
It would finally boot after 10 or so power cycle attempts.

Dell refused to "help" me but did give me some advice
now ... 1 month after the warranty expired - the issue is back

System Info:
Dell M4500
16GB DDR3 RAM (Dell Certified) - issue remains when I use the 8gb in my e6410
bluray drive (I also tried to boot using the dvd drive in my e6410, issue remains)
intel 6250 wifi/wimax card
gobi 2000 card
Bluetooth
i7 cpu
NVidia FX 880 gpu
bios level a15
os: dual boot via GRUB - Ubuntu 13.10 and windows 7 ultimate (both 64 bit)

when it does finally boot, I get a message about intel management engine booting the factory image or something to that effect

it will NEVER boot past the bios splash screen on battery only (even with a new battery)
once booted, I can unplug and get about 2 1/2 hours of usage from the pc

I can access the bios settings with no issues - even on the "no-boot" power ups

once it does boot, there are no other issues

NOW:
after reading on the internet I found this to be a COMMON problem

I now have 2 M4500 that do the same thing. With Intel SpeedStep enabled, it refuses to boot. Both have SSD drives, 16GB DDR3 RAM, NVIDIA FX880 GPU. one has a i7-940 and the other a i7-920. I hope DELL steps up and fixes this issue in A16 BIOS update.

Computer Does Not Turn On Or Go Into Windows
=== Quote ====
No Video
If the power indications are normal but there is never any video seen on the computer's display during the startup process, this probably indicates a No Video issue.
If you have a desktop computer and the monitor has its own power supply, make sure the monitor has a power indicator showing that it is turned on.
To troubleshoot a No Video issue, click on the links below:

Desktop
Notebook

For a notebook, press and hold the Fn key and then press the power button. This starts the pre-boot testing and will launch ePSA. ePSA will test video with a series of patterns. If they look fine but you want to test more, you can respond to the video test with "N" and ePSA will then launch the LCD BIST test. If you have a no video issue, you can either run the Fn+Power to enter ePSA or D+Power to run the LCD BIST.
