Internet Explorer and emails in html in Outlook don't work

Q: Internet Explorer and emails in html in Outlook don't work

Internet Explorer (listed as Q831167 under "Add/Remove Programs") will not run. [I'm using Mozilla & Netscape without a problem.]

And I can't read any Outlook emails in html.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled as many Microsoft products as possible - Office, Internet Explorer - to no avail.

I have Norton Internet Security 2004, loaded yesterday - but I can't use it properly, I suppose b/c of the html issue. And help menus for any program are unreadable.

I've run Spybot 1.3 and Adaware, both with newest updates.
I have the newest anti-virus definitions for Norton loaded - but can't use Norton, so not sure if it helps any. I've eliminated most of the start-up files to clear up any potential issues.

Not sure what to do - and I've spent HOURS!!!!!!

I would appreciate any advice!!

Preferred Solution: Internet Explorer and emails in html in Outlook don't work

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

This isn't Internet Explorer. It's only a patch. If this is what you uninstalled, you didn't uninstall IE. You only removed a patch. In any case, you can't really uninstall IE. You can roll back to a previous version (except on XP), but you can't remove it completely unless you use some sort of non-MS third-party utility.

Why is it that Outlook 2007 Causes Internet explorer 7 to freeze when receiving emails? As Outlook sends a scheduled send and receive if I am currently loading a webpage or click to load a new page it seems to cause it to freeze until the send and receive has finished. I have a customer that is running XP Pro and Outlook 2003. She has 2 problems I need to fix ASAP:
1. She can't print HTML formatted emails but can regular text formatted. There is no error, just when you click the print icon or do file-print nothing happens. Do the same on a plain text and I get prompted for which printer.
2. She cannot go to the MS update site in IE or go to some banking sites. Installed Netscape and she can do the banking part but not update.
I tried reinstalling IE 6 sp1 from my full install CD, tells me a newer version is already installed and abort the install. Tried uninstalling the various updates and get the same.
This lady is an office manager and needs this fixed ASAP. I have tried all my tricks and I need your help. Thanks in advance.

Hi Guys,

I have a user that all her emails that come in HTML have to be opened up first inorder to be printed. All other forms like plaine text and rich text are fine. You can just highlight the email and print it with no error message.
She is using Word and the email editor. I have looked at all the settings but cannot find the problem. She is also unable to print if it has a header page as well.
She is using all Office 2003 apps on her pc which is running XP. She is the only person I can find that this is happening to as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to fix a problem that has started to occur on a networked windows 2000 pc.

When I try to print a HTML email I get a "runtime error on line 596 do you wish to debug yes or no" either way it just doesn't print. I can print plain text emails no problem.

I have tried a repair of the Office installation and reinstalled the printer and still no change.

The email can be sent to another workstation on the network and printed without any problems.

Any suggestions?

When I print HTML emails from outlook 2003 neither the headers or the attachments print out.

I know how to print the attachments as an actual document but I need to print the email that they came on with the attachments showing as icons, the same way as on a Rich Text email.

Many Thanks

A:Outlook not printing header in HTML emails

Possibly it has something to do with IE7.
I know of these two workarounds:
- save the mesage in a .htm(l) file, open it with a browser and print
- convert the message to text first (you can add this function to the outlook tollbar for convenient use)

I recently upgraded to Outlook 2016, and for some reason, some of my e-newsletters have sections blocked (i.e., those sections don't download so a small X appears in the upper-left corner of that section). It doesn't happen with ALL my e-news, only some. I thought it might be a security setting but can't find anything. I have constant malware protection and did full scans several times over the past 10 days.

Any ideas what this could be and what I can do to fix it? Thanks, I'd really appreciate the help.

A:HTML emails open VERY SLOW in Outlook 2003

sounds to me that you have a lot running at the same time. Outlook is very memory intenseve so will use up your system ram. If other items are running also the system then uses your hard drive as virtual memory. This can make things slow right down.
Do a CTRL ATL DELETE to bring up task manager and look at processes to see what is going on in the background. Close some stuff down from here. Also do a spyware and virus check. The best thing is to close as much down on your PC to see if this improves outlook. If it does then we have proved my point.
For free spywear removal try Spybot at http://www.spybot.info/en/ also AVG free for antivirus at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

When some of our users print off a HTML email in outlook 2003 it doesn't print the header to the email or any of the attachments. As the header contains all the information about when the emails was sent this is really important when printing the email off to put with the contract.

Just to be clear, it's not the actual attachment that we need to print off, just the email with the header and the attachments showing as icons.

The machines are running XP Pro SP2 outlook 2003 sp2 and the server is on Exchange 2003 enterprise sp2.

Any help will be greatly apprieciated as this problem has been annoying me for ages and I cant find anything on the net about it.

Do you have IE 7 on these computers ? Try uninstalling IE 7 on one of the computers and see if it works. If it does , then that will be the problem. I think there is a patch of a hotfix for that.

I have been using Win7 64bit for around 2 weeks and previously was on Vista 32bit. Everything is pretty smooth except for Office 2007 Outlook.

As far as it is, I have attempted to forward html emails but failed. Outlook will freeze and the round hourglass cursor will keep turning. Anymore clicking will cause Outlook to show "Not responding" and either it will pop up "Restart Program." or "Close Program".

I have tried leaving it for a few to see if the email goes out. And no, it didn't work too. The email that I tried to send does not appear in the Draft, Outbox or anywhere, even after Outlook restarts. The freeze appears to happen when i click Send button on any html emails that i try to forward. Be it Amazon invoice, edms from hotels or promotional emails from Macy's.

There will be no problem if i'm sending a normal text email and in fact, it sends out really fast too.

I have also repair Outlook, Scanpst on my pst, did a uninstall and reinstall, run in compatibility mode for Winxp SP3, Winvista. None seems to work. I didn't get the problem when i was on Vista.

I googled quite a bit but unfortunately no solutions i can find. Perhaps it's something that i've overlooked and maybe it's something with Win7 on Outlook 2007.

Can someone help?

A:Outlook 2007 hangs on sending html emails in Windows 7

If you go to tools, options, mail format tab - what is your default sending format? I attached a screenshot of my settings which seem to work ok.

The messages that you are forwarding, is the content blocked? That could cause a hang since Outlook would have to download the images etc in order to compose the forwarded html message.

As a test haev you tried composing and HTML message and sending it to yourself, then try forwarding it?

Its an annoying problem I know. But we'll get to the bottom of it.

Hi guys

I have a really annoying issue with Outlook 2007. I am having trouble with HTML e-mails. If I send fresh HTML e-mails i have no issues. If i try to reply to or forward HTML emails, Outlook will not send. I get a message saying "The connection to the server was interupted". If i change the mail to "Plain text" they send without a problem. I have tried the following without any sucess.Turned off McAfee - completely
Uninstalled and re-installed Outlook 2007
Run "scanpst" on the data file
Turned off and on Smartscreen filtering in IE
Tested connection to SMTP server directly with ISP
Run outlook 2007 in XP SP3 compatable
The outgoing mails are going to different addresses so it is not a problem with one outgoing address.

I have tried all forums and google but still cannot find a solution.

Please help....Anything you can think of would be good.
Thanks - Geoff

I have my default email format set to .html. When I compose a new message it looks like everything's working just fine. I send my .html message and even in my sent box, it shows that my .html message formatted properly. However, when others open my messages, they have been converted to plain text. I've checked my office-mates computers and they do not have the setting "convert incoming messages to plain text" so that can't be the problem. I've tested it with 5 people using Outlook who can receive .html messages just fine. I've tested it with my Yahoo address to. For some reason, Outlook is converting my .html (and Rich Text too) email messages into plain text. Everyone else in the office sends and receives html email with a nicely formatted signature just fine. Why can't I? Please help!

I'm running Windows XP with Office 2003 SP 2.

A:Solved: Outlook 2003 Bug - html outgoing emails converted to plain text

Do you have any anti-virus software running on the PC? Some antivirus software may install an Outlook add-in that may convert the message to plain text to avoid spreading of viruses. Check under your "Add-Ins" and disable them all to see if one of the add-ins is causing the problem. If you are on an Exchange server the admin may have also disabled this functionality.

My Sent Items and Inbox folders became filled with emails on Tuesday and I was unable to send or receive emails until I removed several thousand old emails from both folders (which I did, then the system was running fine again as of late Tuesday). I discovered this problem when I attempted to send 3 emails with attachments, making the emails around 5 megabytes each in size (I did not realize that the recipient's system could not handle any email more than 2 megabytes - thus, my Outlook Express kept trying to send these emails every 1 minute for 3 hours until I discovered the problem). I had to delete around 100 email notifications that the recipient could not receive emails at that size and that my email boxes were full.

I corrected these problems and relocated the emails from my Outlook Box to Drafts (until the recipient can change his settings).

All day Wednesday (yesterday) I was able to send & receive emails without a problem. This morning I was sending & recieving as well, then all of a sudden, I was unable to receive any emails. When Outlook attempts to receive, I briefly see a box with the number of emails attempting to be received, then I get an Unknown Error message. I am able to send emails without any problem and my Internet connection has been stable all day.

A:Outlook Express Won't Receive Emails - but Sends Emails with good Internet Connection

Hi rherrygers

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Have you attempted to logon to your ISP's mail server to see what messages are still on the mail server along with determining the size of the messages?
Outlook Express may be timing out trying to download a message that is larger than normal.
Did you also send yourself a copy of the message with the attachment?

Can you post the exact error message please?
If the Send/Receive window is not appearing, you can make it appear by double clicking the area marked in red here:
When the Send/Receive window appears, click the Errors tab, right click on the error message and select Copy and paste the error message here.

Our internet was working fine with Internet Explorer, & then I installed Mozilla Firebird & Mozilla browsers (all worked fine). I decided to then uninstall Mozilla Firebird & from their website they said U could just delete the unzipped program files for Mozilla Firebird which I did.
I then found I couldn't use Internet Explorer or Microsoft Outlook. With IE, it gave the message:

I Uninstalled IE6 & rolled back to IE5, but still had the same problem.

This problem has happened before, & we solved this by reinstalling Windows etc. but I don't want to have to do this again. This problem could be a bit similar to a previous thread "GFXDRV.DRV and IE6 error message" but I think could be different. Has anyone got any ideas for a kiwi IT rookie? Thanks.

I know I posted this before, but unfortunately got no replies - I thought the title might be misleading so here it is again:
Somehow, IE stopped working - giving error of 'No connection, website cannot be found'... yet Mozilla works fine. This would be no real stress as I can get used to only working with Mozilla which I prefer of course. BUT, in Outlook Express (which I rely on for everything in my business) now suddenly, any html images no longer show up in the email preview pane. (I need this for Newsletters, construction, amongst other things - emails that call up the images from the internet). Normal graphics inserted into text come up fine.
This all seems to revolve around the latest upgrade to IE7 - all more or less simultaneous.
I tried uninstalling IE7 - but IE6 had the same problem and so did OE. I have reinstalled IE7.
I have checked all settings that I know about. (I had made no changes anyway, it just suddenly stopped showing the images in the emails).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello All

Does anyone know whether there are any free web based email accounts that allow you to use Outlook to send and receive emails?

I am based in the UK and I use Virgin as my broadband provider. However, as I do not plan to stay with them for that long and because email addresses are not portable, I would ideally like to use a web based email - i.e a long term email address that I will not have to change.

I know that there are plenty of web based emails that do let you use Outlook, but they seem to all charge for this functionality. For example, Hotmail charge £15 (Hotmail used to be free but they have changed their policy to combat SPAM/make money) and Yahoo charge £12.

I found this: http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net which seems to work, although as its free it has its own problems - for example it seems to have "buffer overflow vulnerabilities" (which sounds like something best avoided): http://www.securityfocus.com/archive/1/376504

Any thoughts would be very welcome.

I understand that Gmail allows you to use Outlook for free, but that as its currently a beta version, you cannot sign up. Could anyone invite me to have a Gmail account if they have a spare invite?

Many thanks

A:Any free web-based emails that work with Outlook?

Oops, I just read that Gmail invites cannot be sent to hotmail addresses (apparently Microsoft trying to be clever).

So if anyone does have a spare invite, could you please send it to: [deleted email address]

Also, anyone with information on other free web emails that work with Outlook, then I would still love to hear from you.

Many thanks

Got one now - thanks!

You mean something like this? From your hard drive? Or are you trying to link to the web?

<IMG alt="sample picture" src="c:\sample.jpg" >

You may have to empty out your cache and refresh?
Have no ideas otherwise. However, there is a TSG Web Development Forum here and you would be more likely to get a better answer:

There is a bug that completely changes the tables I have set and it only happens in IE. Pics are attached that show what is supposed to happen (in Chrome and FF) and what happens in IE. Please Help me! I can provide code if needed, but I have narrowed down the problem to something with the <form> tag. The form tag is inside a table which is inside another table.

A:Internet Explorer HTML <form> tag bug

Nevermind, I fixed it. The problem was the <form>. I do not know why it did this but that was the tag that screwed everything up. My fix was to use <select> without using the <form>. It is working now!

HTML code displays when visiting the website in Internet Explorer. Can't figure out what is wrong.

A:HTML Code displays in Internet Explorer

Hi HTMLNewbie, and welcome to TSG.

Are you talking about a web site for which are managing and creating content (TSG has a separate Web Development forum)? It would help to give us the URL for it.

Are you saying that Internet Explorer is showing HTML code for any web site you visit (TSG has a separate Web & E-mail forum). The exact version of IE and Windows might help for starters.

I have a Windows 2000 PC with emails in Outlook Express in several different indentities. The OS is highly unstable and basically shuts down as soon as you try and do just about anything. There is no possibility to save the emails and then copy them off.

I can put the hard drive in another PC and make it the D: drive, but I can't find the Outlook Express files in Explorer to copy them across to the C: Drive.

The PC is too unstable to re-install or over install another OS as it shuts down if I try and do this.

So..... where I can find the actual emails on the drive? I've searched for.eml files but it doesn't find any.

I have been using TopDawg HTML editor, but when I click to preview the page I coded, I click on default browser, IE, but it only opens Notebook. I went to folder options, to choose what opens an html page but the apply button stopped working. another site had me download to desktop this reg fixer: exefix and double click it so regedit would apply the fix but it didn't help. Even on an other html editor, I can't seem to preview the page in IE. I tried Internet options, programs, HTML editor, but I can't change the default Notepad. Any suggestions? btw, I did run my registry booster but nothing helps. any help is appreciated

I am trying to create a 2-column html table. I want to put a large image in a cell within the second column of the table, and "wrap" the image in <div> tags so I can limit the display width, and have scroll bars so the user can scroll the image to view the entire thing.

The sizing of the <div> works correctly but, the table is always the width of the ENTIRE image...nothing I do seems to limit the width of the table. So, even though the <div> is the correct width, and has the scroll bars, the table is the width of the underlying image.

I will include some sample text to demonstrate the problem. Just choose a large image that you might have on your machine, and insert it's path into the <img> tag. The example image I am using is 1600X1200.

PS: in this example I am using "min-width" and "max-width", but the problem is the same if I simply use "width".

This code works properly in Firefox. Is there anything I can do to get the desired behavior in IE or, are table widths determined by the contents of the table in IE, regardless of the properties that are defined?

Thanks, in advance, for any advice you can give.

A:html tables in Internet Explorer [Moved to design]

My web programming skills aren't really good enough to help you but i have a few suggestions.

Don't use tables and position everything using css
Its actually very easy to learn i used a tutorial at the website html-dog (google for it) which was very helpful.
Tables should only really be used for tabular data and are not a way to lay out websites.

I think it will look awful if you have to scroll to see the rest of the picture in the way that you describe, if you have to put it in a table why not put a thumbnail in which when clicked links to the full size version of the picture?

We have a COM dll which when embedded in html file and ran on Internet Explorer (Windows 7) was working fine. We were able to make call to the APIs exposed by the COM dll.

But recently, we installed the windows updates namely
KB3074886 and

After this, whenever we are accessing the API's of this COM dll, we are getting an error "SCRIPT438: Object doesn't support this property or method: ".  So we tried uninstalling the above two updates and saw that we were
able to access the APIs of the COM dll perfectly fine. Only when these updates are installed we are facing the above said error.
Can someone assist us in what may be going wrong here. It will be very helpful for us as it is important for us to run with this updates installed in our system.

Thanks in Advance,

Have you checked to see the size of your Temp internet files and have you deleted the temp internet files or temp system files recently? You can use CCleaner to delete both of these temp file types. Seems simple but I always like to start at the most obvious.

Pretty bazar please post which security suite you use along with filling in your system spec's page with more details,
You can also try to uninstall the ie11 windows update and roll back to which ever prior version you had installed 10-9-8 what ever is the case.

Use Clean boot,

Click Start and type in the search box,
Click on the suggestion on top or hit the Enter key,
Go to the Startup section and take some screen shots for a complete list,
Go to the Services section and on the bottom left Check the box to Hide All Microsoft services,
Repeat the screen shots,

I posted a messege the other day about restricting access to MSN gaming Zone (and Yahoo). It worked, but now they've gone to Shockwave. Without having to constantly monitor what new site's they find, the 64 million dollar question is:

Can Internet Explorer be disabled on a (Windows 2000 SP3) workstation without disabling email (Outlook Express 6)?

I just wish that blue E would go away!!

If I have to buy something like Cyberpatrol/Zone Alarm or if there's a way to change the registry, at this point my bosses wanna see result's....the last trick worked for all of 24 hours!!

Any and all help would be appreciated!!

Our small office is not on a domain and uses a simple workgroup.
We can’t receive emails (pop or imap, standard ports) from our domain work email since two days ago when the company providing our internet connection changed/updated something to do with our internet connection (requiring new router credentials and a new IP address).
The STRANGE thing is other email accounts work fine if set up here (using the same kind of ports etc) and our work emails receive fine through other internet connections!
We have been in contact with both the company that provides our internet connection (we have two connections with them, one for pc’s & laptops and one for the phone system - which I've also tested with our email unsuccessfully) and the company that provides the email service. Both companies have not been able to fix this or pin point the problem.

Any ideas much appreciated!
