Lenovo G5-70 Display resolution problem

Q: Lenovo G5-70 Display resolution problem

I have Lenovo G50-70 with a display resolution of 1920 x 1080 as default and recommended by Windows. Now with this reslution, everything is so small. text, buttons, pictures, etc and it's very hard to work on it.I tried to change the resolution many times but then the display looses its sharpness and clarity, all graphics get dull and loos their sharpness too. Besides this, windows keeps popping up a message to change the display to 1920 x 1080.It was the same when I bought this laptop with Windows 8 and it is the same with Windows 10. No update could fix this problem. The only solution I could do is to "Set a custom scaling level" which does make text normal for comfort viewing but the graphics are not clear. Besides many programs still remain small.I would really appreciate the help to fixing my problem. The display adaptors?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Good day all I have installed Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on an old Lenovo G550. It used to work well on Windows 7, but now I cannot install or update the display drivers in order to connect an external display (LG 49" TV) at 1920 x 1080. Windows installed its own useless drivers that obtains at least 1366 x 768 on both the laptop and the TV when displays are duplicated. Then the highest I can go is 1366 x 768. When I select "Show only on 2" (which is essentially what I want to do), it goes down to an even worse display resolution, but this also disables the Resolution drop-down.  I have downloaded every version of drivers know to God and man from Lenovo's and other sites, but all of them tells me: "This computer does not meet the minimum requirement for installing software." I have deleted the driver and reinstalled via "Scan for hardward changes" as well. I have done a Windows update as well. I have no idea what to do next. How do I fix this stupid problem? Please help me. Thank you in advance.Kind regardsRenier

Hey guys,

I just updated my windows (windows 7 home premium 64 bit) and now the resolution of my screen went down from 1600*900 to 1152*864. I cant set the resolution higher again, because my windows says that this is the highest possible resolution. All my video drivers are up to date.

I hope that you can help me, the low resolution is very annoying.

What LCD/CRT you have? also let us know about your system specs. Try uninstalling the Display Driver and re-installing it and if you can find the driver for your LCD/CRT from the official website of the manufacturer so it can help to solve the issue at some point though Win 7 supports all kinds of display resolutions that a LCD/Monitor's has

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RC (6.1.7100)
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT, driver version 185.81 (the latest version on nvidia.com at the moment)
Monitor: LG Flatron F920P (CRT)

After Windows installation has completed the display resolution was set to 1600x1200, 85 Hz, 32 bpp. In this mode text is too small and blurry so I decided to lower the resolution to 1280x960 as I alwas did in Windows Vista. This also allows me to set refresh rate to 100 Hz. But the display resolution didn't chage - I confirmed this through the menu in monitor. Instead I got a smaller image with black space around it and it didn't make text any larger or sharper. 100 Hz is not available either. That is the size of desktop became 1280x960 but this image is rendered in 1600x1200 mode in the center of the screen.

How can I set real display resolution to 1280x960 and not just the size of desktop?

I am using a NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 model 64 display adapter on my system running Win 98SE. Resolution is set for 1024 by 768.

Recently I have been having a problem with the system bootin to a 640 by 480 resolution. If I reboot the system comes up with a 1024 by 768 resolution.

This problem, which requires second boot-up each time I cold start my system is a real puzzle. Can anyone suggest a cause and a fix?

A:Display Resolution Problem

Are you running any Video configuration software? Sometimes Aplications can cause this problem.
Another thing could be a problem with the windows registry or even the hard drive.

Try setting Display adapter to "Standard PCI Graphics Adapter VGA", then reboot a couple times to clear up the registry, then reload the latest video drivers and see if that resolved the problem.

Good Luck!

I am running Windoes 7RC, Build 7100. My monitor is an HP w2007. All of a suddent today, the display on my screen refuses to fill the entire screen unless I put the resolution on the recommended resolution of 1680 X 1050. At that resolution, I have to set the DPI over 160% for the text to be big enough to read.

I had not made any hardware or software changes before this happened, and I was able to run the resolutuon at 1280 X 800 and have the entire screen filled. I tried uninstalling the graphics drivers and the Catalyst Control Center - made no difference. Does anyone have any ideas?

So I just hooked up a new dell optiplex 780 in our conference room to a projector and the projector is not displaying anything.

The problem is that windows is setting it's resolution to 1920x1080 but the highest resolution it can handle is 1600x1200 so it's not displaying anything at all.

The computer is using onboard intel graphics and also has a dvi add on card for use with the on board graphics and the driver is up to date.

I have the projector connected to the dvi add on card using these dvi over ethernet adapters by iogear: IOGEAR - GVE200 - DVI-D CAT5e/6 MiniExtender, which is why I think windows is detecting it as a 1920x1080 display.

I also have a monitor hooked up to the vga port.

Here's what I found out:

After realizing I did not have any video displaying through the projector I hooked up the monitor and was able to clone and/or extend but only the monitor was working. So I changed the resolution on the projector down from 1920x1080 to 1600x1200 and it starts working fine.

As soon as I unhook the monitor, though I think windows switches back to single display mode and switches its resolution back to 1920x1080. If I leave the monitor connected and change the setting to display through the projector only, it does the same thing setting the resolution too high for it to display anything.

The problem is it won't let me change the resolution before switching to display through the projector only. After you change the setting to display through the project... Read more

I rebooted and hit F8 to get to the advanced boot options menu.

I selected "enable low resolution video" and it booted into windows setting the resolution for the projector to 640x480.

The last few days, after having computer on for 5 hours or so, the screen goes blank and shuts down.
When I restart it the screen resolution is way lower than it should be at 1920x1200 for a 24" screen.
The display is almost like it is in safe mode but after booting up it doesn't say safe mode.
I go into change resolution and it shows 800x? a very low resolution and that box is grey and won't allow me to change it to 1920x1200.

Is this a sign of the card going bad or is there a quick fix for this problem?

If I turn it off for an hour or two it will boot up with the correct resolution. No it is not set for hibernating.
Any and all help appreciated.

your resolution is correct, your DPI settings are not.
right click your desktop anywhere, click on personalization, on the left of that window should be an option saying adjust font size (DPI), in that new window, your font size, if im correct should be set at 120 DPI, set it to 96 DPI and restart, this should fix the issue

Hi all. So I turned on my laptop (Dell inspiron e1505, Vista Home ed, W/ NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 graphics driver) and the screen was divided into 4 quadrants, with the same thing on each. After 2 restarts, its back to full screen, yet the resolution won't go above 1024 x 768.

System info on the graphics card reads "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

Also, there is a reported problem with Microsoft ISATAP Adapter 2, which reads "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"

Not sure what the second thing is. Any ideas on what the problem is or how to fix it? The laptop is a couple months shy of being 4 years old. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello everyone

Can you help?

I am running Windows XP Pro and am having trouble with the way colours display at times and am wondering if anyone has any ideas.

If I have my display settings on Highest (32 bit) some of my icons on taskbars/toolbars get a pink shadow behind them for some reason (see attachment - Bar). If I revert to the only other choice which is Medium (16 bit) the pink shadows disappear but the desktop wallpaper and all other images appear 'bitsy/blurred/blotchy or not as sharp' (sorry, I don't know how better to describe it). I have attached also some other files to perhaps assist any of you in trying to work out why this happens.

Obviously I would like all the images and icons to be as sharp and clear as possible without the pink background, but don't have any idea about what I can do to fix the problem.

It gets a bit frustrating when you find an image for wallpaper that you would really like, but when displayed it doesn't show up as crisp as it could (when on 16 bit).

Am I missing something here?

Any help or advice would be ever so appreciated, and I look forward to hearing from anyone with some ideas.

Bye for now, and thanks in anticipation.

A:Colour resolution / display problem

Looking at your pic it seems to me that not all the icons have this shadow. I would simply guess that the shadow is part of the graphic itself, but is in a color which 16-bit cannot display. I, personally, would stick with 32-bit for the best resolution, and learn to live with the "bonus" of having a few pink (fuschia) shadows.

Windows Systemax XP pro SP3: I had to reinstall it, (CD for Windows, and on-line updates for SP3) and now I cannot get it to set 1680 x 1050 resolution for my Acer V223W monitor.
I have no video card, just the motherboard chipset.

It worked fine before the re-installation. I've been through all the settings, (including advanced - list all modes) but there is simply no 1680 x 1050 selection available, and I can find no way to input the setting I need.

Maybe a clue: Belarc Advisor says it can't discover the Display.

I went to ACER, and downloaded a new driver, but it came in a format (ICM) that Windows cant handle, so I can't use it.

I've tried Windows Update, but it crashes the website, (don't know why) and so I'm about at the end of the string.

I sure would be happy for an answer.

Hello,
i recently updated my graphic card driver to the newes version. But now I am not able to select the right display resolution(which is 1920x1200). The max resolution I can select is now only 1600x1200. But this Driver should definitely support this resolution.
Even if I select the option to show me all mods it won?t show me more options.

I tried a lot of other Drivers now and even my old Driver(which worked fine) but non of them seems to work.

- Graphic Card: ATI RADEON HD 4800
- Driver: AMD-Catalyst-15.11Beta (also tried 15.7.1 and 13.4)
- Display: HP Z24i
- Windows 10 64bit Pro

A:ATI Radeon HD 4800: display resolution problem

Maybe changing the graphics driver changed the monitor as well. To make sure it supports all resolutions, you have to replace the monitor with Generic PnP monitor. Click on the search icon and type device. Click to open the Device Manager, then expand monitors, right-click on the monitor and select Update driver. Select last option a couple of times and you should see a list with models. Uncheck the box Show compatible models to see all models. Then from standard monitors select Generic PnP monitor and install it.

Another thing to try is to change the resolution from Catalyst Control Center, monitor section. Or right-click on the desktop, select Display settings., then click Advanced display settings, then Display adapter properties. Finally click on List all modes, select the desired resolution and try to apply it.

was using my box normally, hadn't updated any drivers or installed any new apps in a while, when the screen just flickered and kicked me into an 800x600 resolution. when i tried to change it back to the monitor's native resolution (1680x1050), i found that it wasn't available anymore... the best resolution i could get was 1600x1200. when i 'check all modes', nothing above 1600x1200 is listed.
I've tried restoring to an old save point, i've tried uninstalling and re-installing 3 diff versions of the forceware drivers (incl. the most recent), i've swapped in my old x600 card & installed the latest catalyst drivers. NOTHING WORKS!!! When i plug the monitor into my old computer tho, f*ckin' bob's yer uncle... no problems whatsoever.
WHAT THE 'EFF!!!
Please someone tell me you have a solution! My eyes really hurt from looking at this fuzzy, non-native resolution!!!

A:big display problem; can't get native resolution anymore!

It would seem the graphics card and monitor aren't getting along for some reason.

Check the Monitor Driversand at the monitor in the Device Manager. Try the monitor on your integrated graphics output. This should tell you if it is a software issue (If it works fine).

Also look at the BIOS PCI-e settings and see if there is anything there that could cause the problem.

While you're at it, check your monitor panel settings (menu within monitor itself)

Good look.

Hello there,

Thanks for your time in reading my post.

I've replaced a cracked screen on a laptop with a like for like replacement from a seller on eBay.

I fitted the screen, powered on the laptop and it's instead displaying what it should be 4 times above and below each display. It's almost as though the screen doesn't support the resolution or refresh rate.

Now I don't understand why this is when it's a like for like replacement and the real strange thing is the first time I tested it when it showed the HP BIOS Start up screen it WASN'T displaying properly... but when Windows loaded it did display properly.

The problem I've now got is Windows won't load and I can only boot in to safe mode (this was already a problem before, Windows sometimes wouldn't boot). In Safe mode the screen doesn't display properly.

Please help!!

A:Display/Resolution problem after screen replacement

Typical cause for Safe Mode to function and not (normal) Windows is a video driver issue.

The screen not displaying the BIOS or Safe Mode correctly sounds like a hardware fault. I don't know that you can adjust the display at that level. Just like with a desktop PC, if the BIOS or Safe Mode display is corrupted, there is a hardware fault and the resolution is usually hardware replacement...typically the video card.

Hi all,

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit with a Core I3-2100, using the integrated graphics solution with a connection to my HDTV.

I tried to set it to 1920x1080, which took some finagling, but eventually worked. naturally, all the text was too small, so i changed the setting to make the text 125% larger.

but now even though the display driver says it's at 1920x1080, instead of keeping everything on the screen and increasing the text size, it looks like the screen is zoomed in at 125%, so the outer edges of my desktop are essentially outside of the screen (i.e. not visible).

so i tried to change the setting back to 100% for text size, but now it won't change back. so the outer edge of my screen is now not visible.

anyone run into this problem before? any solutions? i've updated the intel drivers, used vga and hdmi outputs, reinstalled the drivers. is this a windows problem or an intel problem?

thanks!

I have a user who did something to the resolution on an old Windows NT workstation while doing something with wallpaper. He doesn't know exactly what he did, but he said he was trying to make the picture bigger on his desktop (but I don't think he used stretch). I think he did something in the display properties.

The workstation is an old Compaq Deskpro. I can get into the unit using VGA mode, but when I load the drivers for the video card (ATI 3D Rage Pro) and do reboot the monitor still turns off at logon. It's almost like it's trying to do some kind of widescreen setting and freaking out. I hooked the unit up to a regular LCD and it said input not supported.

It's definately a settings problem on the drive as I swat it out and put it in an identical workstation and the problem remained.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem in VGA mode so that I can once again get into the regular display mode.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Realcoder,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Did you have a chance to test the laptop with an external monitor attached to the VGA port? Can you get video on the external monitor?

First of all, I would check memory modules. It?s possible that one of the modules failed. 1. Try reconnecting memory modules. Remove them from the motherboard and install back in. 2. Test your laptop with each module installed separately. If one of them is faulty, the laptop will start when the bad module is removed.
Also, check the connectors inside to see if any have come loose.

This Maintenance Manual should guide on how to get into the memory modules.

Just had exactly this same problem from last night on my wife's x131e. I've tried updating the bios and uninstalling display drivers so far. I'll try re-installing the intel display drivers tonight. The maximum resolution available seems to be 640x480 so I'm wondering whether there is a problem with the display drivers. The fact that the same issue has happened with 2 laptops days apart makes me think it could be related to some sort of windows update. If not I guess the most likely problem is the motherboard or display cable. Let me know if you manage to fix it!

I am having severe problems with my laptop. Just bought it 6 months ago. It worked perfectly, every game worked smoothly, gave me awesome experience but recently, while i was using the laptop as usual, horrible green, purple, grey and black lines started to appear and my laptop stuck. I was shocked as i just bought it. I shut it down, only to find the problem again. I have figured out that my laptop screen works only when i bend it to a certain angle and if i exert a little pressure to the lower end of the screen. When i lift my finger off it messes up again. Please help me guys. I have attached a pic so you can get better idea. Thanks,

I teach computer applications at a private school. We just purchased 6 Lenovo A600 all-in-ones to use for our yearbook class. We wiped them and installed Windows XP SP3, Office 2007, InDesign and Photoshop CS3, etc.

These computers came with Windows Vista Home and were not configureable (i.e. we could not get any hardware or software changed at the factory). However, when I installed Windows XP, I was able to get drivers for XP from the the Lenovo website. All of the worked except for the Intel(R) GMA driver for the display. Although I installed the driver, the computer won't recognize the screen and let me change the resolution to 1900 x 1080. Instead it uses a default 1024 x 768 setting.

How can I fix the drivers so that the screen will display properly?

Hi All,

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X200 (model: 7459-VZ9) with a docking station. This connects to my Samsung 2693HM display via VGA (no DVI available on the laptop or docking station). The native screen resolution on the laptop monitor is 1280x800, but when docked I would to use 1920x1200 on the 2693HM. This doesn?t work however: even though 1920x1200 is available in the list of resolutions (and listed as recommended), when I select it I get a weirdly distorted output ? only about the top 1/3 of the screen and 6/8 of the width is shown all stretched and distorted. What can cause this problem, and can it be solved? Is it the 2693HM, the X200, the cable, ?

The 2693HM shows perfect 1920x1200 when connected by DVI to my desktop PC.
I can show up to 1680x1050 from the X200 without problems.
Latest display drivers from Lenovo are installed, and the screen is recognized as ?2693HM (analog)?.

Specs:
Lenovo ThinkPad X200 (model: 7459-VZ9)
Intel Core Duo 2 P8400 @ 2.26 GHz processor
2 GB RAM
500 GB HDD
Onboard Intel 4500MHD (mobile Intel® GM45 Express chipset)
Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit

Thanks for any advice or help!

- John

First of all, let me explain the problem from the beginning. When everything is normal on the computer in the morning, when I run the computer in the morning, the screen is black, but I noticed that the computer is working. When I look carefully, the screen is black, but I saw it. I saw the screen is distorted. I put the screen back on the screen and I saw that it was black. The screen was showing for fifteen minutes before but now it has not. The screen that I removed from the working computer is black screen and when I look carefully, something appears.

[email protected], hopefully someone can help.  I got a Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro 13 80HE004LGE for half a year.  Intel Core M-5Y70 1.1 GHz + Intel HD Graphics 5300, Kerntakt: 100-850 MHz, Dual-Channel, 20.19.15.4444 I used it with an external DELL 24" screen in extension setup WUXGA 1920 x 1200 pixel. Worked without any problem. Now changed the screen: DELL 27" (Dell U2713HM) . This screen should be able to provide WQHD 2560 x 1440 pixel but max I can choose in the set up (Win 10) is Full HD 1920 x 1080 pixel. I did the full program; 1. deleting drivers (Graphic and Monitor) reinstalled newest versions provided from Lenovo/Dell website,2. tried 3 different cables (HDMI and DVI), no differences :-(3. Installed Dell SetUp tool4. Installed intel set up tool (Could enter the high resolution manually here as personal setting, but does not work either) Nothing helped :-( screent stays on 1920 x 1080 :-( This 27" screen was running connected to a MacBook Pro without any problem in max. resolution 2560 x 1440 before.  Due to my research the Intel HD 5300 should be able to handle 2560 x 1440. Looking forward to helpful repliesDennis

My Lenove G560 has this unusual problem. When I turn it on my screen is divided into 4 sections, all showing the same thing. I tried downloading and installing the latest Intel HD graphics drivers and it still doesn't help. I checked my display frequency and it is set to 60Hz and my color depth is still 32 bits. The only thing that has changed is my screen resolution to 800 x 600.

Any ideas on why this is happening?

Hello!1. I think that I need a faster HDD for my games and for that I want to buy another HDD, with 7200 rpm. The only problem is that my current HDD, WD Blue WD10SPCX 1TB 5400 RPM, is a thin one version (7mm). I want to buy a faster one, but I only find 9.5 mm versions. Can a 9.5mm hard drive fit into this laptop? 2. An other problem with my laptop: from time to time, my display blinks. I have to move the screen to stop it. Has anyone ever met this problem?

I just purchased a Dell XPS 410/9200 computer and separately bought a Samsung 941BW 19" widescreen LCD display whose native resolution is 1440 x 900. The computer came with the NVidia GeForce 7300 graphics card and the Windows XP Home Edition operating system. When we tried to follow HitSquad's advice to PaulInAustin on 12/14/2006 there was no "Add" button in the window for screen resolutions and refresh rates.

Samsung technical help tells us to call Dell, and Dell tech support seems clueless about this problem. With all the widescreen displays being sold, surely they've addressed this issue!

A:Setting Display Resolution For New Widescreen Display

Hi fishinswede, welcome to BC.There should be a driver disc for the monitor itself that came in the box. Did you install it and is windows identifying the correct monitor model? And just so we're on the same page, you did also first uninstall the old drivers then re-install the upgraded drivers (forceware 93.71) for the video card itself from the Nvidia link here? You may also wish to try a somewhat older version here. It's the one I still use because it's the most stable I have found for my system. The only reason I can see that the add button wouldn't be there is that the monitor is not being identified correctly, either because of the driver or the monitor itselfIf you have done the above and have another monitor laying around, preferably a crt, temporarily hook it up and see if the "add" button is now an option. If it is, add the new resolution settings then hook up your new monitor. It's a long shot but worth a try. You also want to start in a lower resolution then the one you're trying to add. Bump it down to an ugly 800x600, then see if the add button is an option. You should altimatetly end up with a menu resembling thisLet us know what you come up with.

Hi guys,

I have strange problems with my Lenovo 3000 N200 (0769) laptop.
I wasn't able to find similar problems on the net and I hoped that you could help me to diagnose them.

The problems are as follows:
1. When I turn on the laptop, nothing appears on the screen and there is no POST beep. After a few seconds the screen gets brighter (but still black).
2. If external monitor is attached, I'm able to use Fn+F7 to toggle the display. Then I get the menu where I can choose to boot in a safe mode or to start Windows (the operating system is Windows XP) normally, but the display is corrupted - there are strange vertical lines on the screen. Here is how it looks:
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/696/dsc00010gr.jpg/
I tried that on two different screens and the result was the same.
3. If I choose to start Windows normally, the Windows logo is displayed for a few seconds (also with vertical lines):
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/193/dsc00011io.jpg/
After that, I get this BSOD:
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/809/dsc00012lh.jpg/
And the computer reboots immediately.

All problems started at the same time.

I'm able to boot in a safe mode.
The minidumps are attached. I tried analyzing them using "PEBrowse Crash-Dump Analyzer", but it gives me the error message: "Incorrect crash-dump signature".

So far, I tried doing the following:
1. Reinstalling Windows.
2. Running RAM test using Memtest 86+ v4.0, no errors found (stopped after 3 passes).
3. Disconnect... Read more

Hi, After reinstalling windows on my y50-70, I can't seem to find a High Preference Power plan and that seems to cause a problem with my display, it starts to flicker and drop fps in games. I believe the problem acquired since I don't have my power driver instaled properly or there is another falt. I have reinstalled all the graphics, power management and intel drivers. It helped slightly after I played around with: Power options -> Advanced setting -> Processor power Management -> Max processor state -> 99% (both settings from 100%). I looked it up on another topic with a flickering screen. Also in BIOS, I have changed NVIDIA GPU to be disabled. Please help me solve this problem with a flickering screen (both in game and desktop) and fps drops. Specs: Proccesor: i5 2.9Ram: 8gbGraphics: Nvidia 960m 4gb Thank you!

Not sure whether I should have posted this in Hardware or Windows 8 or hardware.

Against my better judgement, I bought a Lenovo B540 all in one computer that ran Windows 8. It was beautiful, it ran well and fast... until 3 months later when my 2 year old took a metal hole punch to the side of the screen. For the first week, it wasn't a big deal. I could still use the mouse fine, I could even touch it if I wanted (But I figured that it was a bad idea). The crack was on the far left high corner of the screen, so it only ventured a hairline into the actual display and was not a distraction at all.

Nearing week 2, the digitizer started going out. It started pulling my mouse near the cracked corner of the screen when I tried to use it. I tried calling Lenovo tech support, and they were useless. They just read to me things that I had already learned from looking online. They are trained monkeys that know how to read and operate a mouse.

Apparently, Windows 8 has tied their display driver in with the one that operates the touch screen, so there is NO WAY to disable the display driver. I tried all that I could while the screen still worked. Nothing that I tried, or found worked in time.. Because when the touch screen went down for good (as I thought it might) it took the display with it.

I can turn it on, hear it work, but the main problem is that the two are tied together and my mouse is geared up towards the upper left corner and I cannot see it.

If I could just insta... Read more

A:Windows 8 Display + Digitizer driver problem (Lenovo All in One: B540)

And... I know that I can send it in to the trained monkeys to diagnose and repair it for a one time $85 fee. But they will not give me a quote on how much it will cost to replace the digitizer before I send it. The customer service rep said

" I know that it costs around $350 to replace a laptop screen, but I am not sure about a touch screen" * SMH... I could replace a laptop screen for $50-$100!!!. How much are they GOING to charge. I am not going to gamble $85 on the chance that they will charge me more than it cost to buy my computer in the first place.

I asked if I could buy the all-in-one case including the touch screen, digitizer, lcd.

"Well, no... repairing these is such a delicate process that we simply do not allow these parts to be sold"

FML!!! This is exactly why I have never bought an Apple. Lenovo is no better than Apple. They assume that you, the customer, are entirely dumb and cannot put the insides of your existing computer into a new screen/case.

Gah.. Should have bought a desktop. But there's my rant. Never buy an all-in-one if you have a child who might destroy the screen in the house. ESPECIALLY not Lenovo, because not only will they not quote you a price on repair, they won't even sell you the parts to repair it yourself.

It has been almost 6 months since I bought this laptop, and it gave awesome experience, such a beautiful, powerful laptop both for work and gaming. I enjoyed alot until recently, two days ago I was just using my laptop and suddenly screen started to show these horrible green, grey, black and purple lines, multicolored and the screen stuck. I had never encountered a problem like this. First i tried to shut it down, by main power button. When I started the laptop again, lines showed up again and screen stuck. I was greatly shocked because I just bought it recently and didn't expected such problems.I figured it out that if I exert a little pressure on the screen it would work, the lines will disappear and the it will become normal but then the moment i took my finger off, it returned to it state. After doing a little diagnosis i found that if i put my screen in a certain angle it would become normal. I can use it but only after pushing the screen to a certain angle and it is not comfortable at all.  Sorry for awful lengthy post but i will be grateful for any help. Thanks. Here is a pic.

I have been considering a mini-itx build for multimedia use. On the occasions I have hooked my computer up to my TV, I've noticed that even 800x600 is a little high a resolution to ask of a TV. I was wonding if there was a way to get XP Pro or 2000 Pro to display at 320x240 or something more reasonable. I am sure that this is possible, right?

I recently bought a new computer from Dell. It's a Dell Optiplex 780. Here in the office, we run three 19" displays per computer, so I had them install an Nvidia Quadro NVS 420 graphics card. The specs on the card from Nvidia's website say that it supports up to four displays at "2560x1600 through DisplayPort, 1920x1200 through Single Link DVI-D". I actually called Nvidia and asked them specifically if the card supports 1024x1280 @60Hz resolution, and they say it does.

In setting up the computer, I connected a Dell P190Sb monitor. The specifications on the monitor say the native resolution is 1280 x 1024 @60 Hz. The problem is that I cannot select that resolution in the resolution dialog box. I get choices of 1280x720, 1024x768, and 800x600.

So, if the monitor supports it, the graphics card supports it, why can't I select the appropriate resolution for the monitor?

I have downloaded and updated the video drivers from Nvidia's website. In trouble shooting with Dell's tech support, we updated the Bios and monitor drivers, and still no resolution to the problem. Dell is ready to have us ship the systems back to them (we bought two).

I found a number of articles online complaining about the way Windows Vista and Windows 7 use the EDID data that is supposed to be supplied by the monitor. In reading this thread:

Give this a go. I posted it up and it worked twice in the last two weeks for others.

Just in case Click the picture below and it gets bigger.

Right click an open area of the desktop then go down the list to Nvidia Control Panel. Left click it. This takes you to Nvidia Change Resolution page. See pic below.
1)Select monitor- your new one should be outlined all ready. If more than one connected select the monitor you wish to set.

2) Select PC resolution. As you see mine is 1440x900 at 75MHz.
Almost all monitors use setting at 60MHz so yours should be 60 MAYBE 75MHz.
If your resolution is in this list you are done. Close page.
Only go to Step 3 if yours isn't listed at Step 2.
Custom Resolutions as the ones I have shown are totally unstable with MY monitor. So don't go further unless necessary.
3) If your Resolution isn't listed click "Customize"
4) Select a PC res that may work. You can always change or try others.
5) Click OKAY to accept and try.

I hope that helps and gets you fixed.
