I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

First problem is that I tried after some time to get into the BIOS(Have the last version of BIOS lenovo offers) and couldn't get with any of the known keys. Delete and F2 go into windows boot menu, F8 goes into hdd boot menu and F12 into advanced windows menu(with safe mode, repair etc). I might have mixed up which key does what but in the end none of them goes into BIOS. Second problem,at my father's office there's an hdmi LCD TV that I've previously used as a second monitor extending the laptop's.But I haven't used it in a while and now it doesn't get recognized anymore.I have latest drivers in both Intel and Nvidia. When i press detect in the Screen Resolution menu I get two small grey monitors(displays not detected, one for each graphics chip). Any ideas? Thanks

I have very similar problem.  Y50-70 and no key will take me into the BIOS.  F2 is totally ignored, does nothing when you tap it during boot up.  Always goes to Windows 10 login.  F2 worked fine previously and would enter BIOS, but no more.

Hi everyone, I do have a strange issue with a Thinkpad S1 Yoga: after a fresh (clean) install of Win10, I have installed the relevant drivers - including the Lenovo power mgmt driver. So far, everything is ok. However, the device does not enter sleep mode when I am closing the lid. It seems that it rather changes to tablet mode.  After x minutes of inactivity, the devices enters sleep mode - also if I manually select sleep mode via Startmenu. So I think this is related to the detection of the lid function. Any chance to correct this? thanks. best, axeon

I have my Yoga for 5 days and the touchscreen stopped working mid-use! Tried everything I could, I also have reinstalled the factory image. Touchpad and pen are working correctly but not the touchscreen.  The HID Touch device is in the hardware manager. It's a 20C0. I've open a service request yesterday, I'm still waiting. Does anyone else had this problem with a brand new Yoga?

A:Thinkpad Yoga - Touchscreen not working anymore

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that touchscreen of your ThinkPad Yoga stopped responding.

Open Device Manager in control panel. Look for the option Human Interface Device. Under Human Interface Device, look for HID-compliant device. Right click on this option and choose Disable and then re-enable the same.

If the above said didn?t help, it could possibly be a hardware issue. I?m sure the Lenovo technical support can be of great assistance.

Regards,
Mithun.

A:Yoga 500 - How to enter BIOS?

Hi kartik468 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums ,

For your Y500 laptop , you may check your manual  .
You may turn off the computer first and use the Novo button (number1 page 7) to turn it on.
It would offer the Novo menu for BIOS set up

For the hadware manual , you may click on this (for further reference )

Hope you find this helpful.

Now I selected optimize defaulst enabled and can no longer enter the BIS. I get a lenovo splash screen and am already bootd into Windows. How can I get back into BIOS, please?

It sounds like you might be running windows 10.  Easiest is to boot into windows 10 and then force a complete shutdown.  Hold the shift key while you are powering off.  You can get more time at startup to interrupt.

I was going to buy and test the T580 for our company but since the (fantastic!) news that a centerd touchpad Thinkpad is coming we are going to wait. However, I wanted to check. We are in the UK. How can we ensure that our Thinkpad keyboard has a large return button? I have seen picutures of mostly a small one, but there are a few with a large on. We dont mind opting for a Canadian or US or Australian etc version and loose teh "£" sign if for it we get a large return button.

Hi,

I just bought the Thunderbolt 3 dock and remembered reading that you have to make some changes in BIOS for the usb hub to be detected in linux. So I entered BIOS and disabled thunderbolt security and enabled some other thunderbolt feature (the one below thunderbolt security, the tooltip tells you to enable this for linux support and older versions of windows 10).

After saving and rebooting all I see is a blank screen and the fans start going at full speed.

The computer does not boot into my OS and I am not able to enter BIOS again.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Is there a way to factory reset the BIOS without entering it? Usual solution here is to remove the CMOS battery but I really don't want to open my brand new laptop unless I know my warranty is still valid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:ThinkPad X280: After BIOS update, notebook won't boot anymore

It is not very difficult to remove the CMOS/Coin Cell battery on that system, just remove the main battery, and then loosen 3 screws to open the large bottom cover (see page 73 of the ThinkPad E560 and E565 Hardware Maintenance Manual for details on removing the cover)    Once the cover is open, unplug the CMOS/Coin Cell battery (you don't actually have to remove the battery), wait a few minutes and then plug it back in (see page 81 of the HMM for details). Doing so will not effect your warranty, but don't force anything and keep track of the screws.

A:Enter Bios Lenovo Ideapad YOGA 11

Hi coucoune1633 ,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

To enter the BIOS , turn off the pc and use the Novo key (item1 page12) to power on .
Novo menu would appear offering BIOS set up (for changing boot options etc. )
System recovery option from one key recovery initial back up would delete everything and restore to factory defaults.

About booting to safe mode:
Since starting with Windows 8 and up , usual F8 on boot is deeply embedded on the recovery making it hard to access.

If Windows cannot boot to a viable stage for to access advance recovery menu :

1. Shift + F8 works on some system , do it at same time you see the lenovo splash screen repeatedly.

2. Forcing recovery mode on windows 8 : turn on then suddenly turn off pressing the power button , then on and off again for 2-3 attempts , Turn on and see if recovery screen would show up for the advance option.

3. Some system have F11 / F12 on BIOS to launch the recovery / boot option

4. Using a bootable media ( USB rescue image often useful for repair / back up  , using Windows media creation tool  )
If Windows 8/10 does not start: (using the command line)
How to boot into Safe Mode from the Windows 8/10 installation media or recovery USB flash drive.

Hello, i am facing the trouble with my ThinkPad X120e. I have got it without HDD. The vendor claims that the machine has verified functionality and is tested. So i bought HDD separetaly and i wanted to install OS. I tried to enter the BIOS to set up the boot order but there is some sort of failure. The result is that I CAN'T ENTER THE BIOS MENU or even to boot order.I have tried many key combinations to call up BIOS menu but without any success. If i hit on the "Esc" button right after switching on my X120e it seems that everything will go fine - there is a message "Entering BIOS Setup Utility" (pi. 1). But right after there is a first black screen (pic. 2) announcing me the list of crucial notebook components (the HDD is in this list, it means my X120e sees him). I started the update from within the Lenovo maintenance system with 90% battery and AC plugged in. When i checked things 30 minutes later after the screen said shutting down i discovered the power button on and function key lit but no action. I just let it sit all night. Today no change and i can power off the system with the button but can't force it to boot. The laptop had been working perfectly before this misguided bios update. The system is out of warranty. Is there any possibility of recovering the old bios or any other recovery method?

I have a TP S1 Yoga (Model 20CDCTo1WW) running Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit. I utilize it mostly at work and have it hooked up to a Thinkpad Onlink Pro Dock.  I use the dock to run two external monitors, for connecting to our network (through an ethernet cable) and utilize the USB ports on the front/back to hook up a wireless keyboard/mouse, for powering my phone and for thumbdrives.  I had the problem of the Onelink having port "flapping" issues (network would disconnect and connect at random times) as discussed elsewhere in these forums.  The solution that I found was to update the bios.

I proceeded to attempt to update the bios (which I had not done since I purchased it in January 2014).  The current bios version is: GQET32WW (1.12), 1/22/2014.  I downloaded the TP Yoga bios update utility for Windows 8.1 (64-bit), Version 1.18.  I read the README and then ran the utility.  It installed the utility software to a location on the local drive ("c:" ) and then proceeded.  I went through the setup screens, selecting the "Update ThinkPad BIOS" clicking through a few more text boxes (with the warning about not powering off, keeping it plugged in, etc) until it asked to reboot. I clicked OK to reboot, which it did.  This is the next thinkg I seen on the screen:

Hi guys, I have no idea what's happening with my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga S1 (it's about 3.5 years old, its warranty just expired). Every time I reboot, I get this weird message saying "Configuration changed, please reboot the machine...". I then proceed to reboot the machine and everything works but the bios options are always resetted! This makes the laptop extremely unusable for me as I always swap the fn/ctrl keys so that I don't have to learn a new keyboard every time I switch computers. If I go back and change the option, it works fine, but the next reboot it does the same message again and I have to reconfigure the bios at EVERY boot. I'm lucky this option is the only one I changed, otherwise someone that would have changed the boot order/graphics settings/passwords etc. would be in a much worst situation than me...At first this seemed like a typical bios battery being out of juice so that the config can't stay saved, but I've now changed the bios battery twice with new ones and this doesn't change anything... It's been working perfectly for 3 years but now it just suddenly stopped working for that reason (by not working I mean the bios that keeps resetting itself, I can still boot to my main OS just fine after). If anybody has any suggestion that would be greatly appreciated. I thought about flashing the bios but afaik it's the latest one, and anyway as I'm only running GNU/Linux I can't run the .exe tool to update it (off-topic but please lenovo have another way to u... Hi and thanks for reading. After running updates through Lenovo Companion, I tried to run a game, and noticed that my performance was terrible. It was than that I noticed that my fans weren't working anymore, and the GPU was throtteling.I've tried a lot of different things. The fans just never spin up, not even on cold boot like they used to.I've looked around the forums for solutions (this was similar, amongst others), and tried running Lenovo Fan Test, which just gives me "Fan Unavailable". Other monitoring applications tell me there simply is no fan available, or the thing is running at 0 rpm, which is accurate.I read that fan control is part of the BIOS, so I checked, and I have the lastest version installed (1.14/1.24 as mentioned). The people from the Thinkpad yoga 12 thread suggested downgrading the bios. I tried different version but that just gives me the ol' "Secure Flash Authentication Failed" message. I have found the knowledge base articles telling me to turn off "Secure RollBack Prevention" in the BIOS. I went and had a look, and it was already disabled. I toggled it a couple of times, tried setup defaults, and "Secure Rollback Prevention" Enabled and Disabled to make sure, but everything I tried simply gave the same result: When I try to do a rollback, secure flash authentication fails. Period. The device doesn't have a CD drive, and I've tried running the flash tool from the ISO on a USB stick, which did run, but told me the firmware wasn't suitable for my device... Read more

Hi! We have a number of ThinkPad Yoga 11e, most of them are about 1.5 years old and we're currently updating their Windows 10 image and BIOS. Imaging process completes fine, but updating the BIOS has caused us a lot of issues. When updating BIOS from within Windows with the latest BIOS Update Utility (1.26) from Lenovo's website the laptops crash with a blue screen of death (BSOD). We then tried all previous BIOS versions (from 1.10 and up), but they all crashed too. The current BIOS version on the laptops is 1.10, but even that failed. We initially ran the installer from our network drive with the installer file renamed for easier identification. We have since tried renaming the installer file back to the original name and running it locally. Have also tried running it only with wireless enabled, running only with Ethernet enabled. At one point we thought there might have been another installation process running in the background (drivers, Windows Update), so made sure that had all completed. The BIOS upgrade still crashed the laptop. We have been unable to pinpoint any of the above scenarios to be the culprit, as now some of them work randomly. Two machines side by side, one will work and the other one will fail. We're pulling our hair out with this one. Has anyone else had this experience and have you found what steps need to be taken to successfully complete the BIOS upgrade every time?

I have tried multiple time to install the Thinkpad BIOS UPdate - 7/8 [32,64]/8.1/10 [64].
I follow instructions to plug-in and close all programs.
The installing bars will not complete past 91%. There is a prompt that asks to pick Thinkpad or Model Number. When I click Thinkpad and NEXT the computer SHUTS DOWN immediately (right after warning not to shut down or damage may occur). The computer screen goes black and 3 ominous beeps repeated 3 or 4 times sound. When I restart my computer nothing has updated.

I am unable to complete the Critical Update after trying 4 or 5 times. (Tried downloading and deferring install and the same thing occurred.)

(In tandem, I'm getting numerous STOPCODE errors from Microsoft after updating with the Fall Creators update. Not sure if it's related. I've had a variety of problems since the Fall Creators update and was hoping the BIOS update might clear things up.)

Any advice?

This sounds a lot like a prior thread about porblems with BIOS 1.08, but that thread ended up marked as solved, while for me the issue returned on the latest BIOS update to 1.12. My CPU temp got up to 92C without the fan coming on. Conclusion: there still seems to be some kind of condition where the BIOS completely disables all cooling. I think it's the same problem as that earlier thread, and it's clearly not solved. Thankfully it IS possible to get out of this state by rolling back the BIOS version to the one that worked, instructions are posted here and three posts below that for further clarification.  Symptoms: you start noticing that the TPY gets oddly hot during normal use, or it experiences a forced shutdown due to overheating. It's also completely quiet. But: the fan itself is operational because you hear it briefly spin up during cold boot.  Given that LoneSentry mentioned that the problematic BIOS 1.08 did work on second install, there seems to be some 'random' glitch in the update process or in the BIOS. Meanwhile I'm pretty unhappy that I'm having to do continued truobleshooting on this machine.   Edit: going to the BIOS update page I saw that a newer BIOS was available (1.13), which you can install without having to disable Secure Rollback. Lo and behold. the fan is working again. The fan started blowing full speed right at the start of the EC flashing procedure. This is NO... Read more

Yep. At revision 1.13 and this is still going on. I have to roll-back BIOS revisions and then roll-forward to get the fan to work again. I've nearly burned myself in tablet mode quite a few times now. I just updated to 1.14 so we'll see how that goes.

Hi all, I've been reading tonnes of threads here trying to solve my problems (which seem to keep getting worse) to no avail. Said clean install went flawlessly with Windows 10 installing the first time with no issues or errors. Since I had performed a clean install, all my previous apps, including the stock Lenovo apps, had been deleted. I had anticipated this and only really desired to reinstall the app that automatically adjusts the screen orientation when folding the cover back. So in an effort to find this app and any Windows 10 related updates that may be available I went to support.lenovo.com and used the handy Lenovo Bridge app to automatically detect my hardware and suggest relevant updates. While combing through the suggested software I noticed a BIOS update that noted added support for Windows 10. I have a fleet of around 40 Thinkpad Yoga 260s (20FD-0004US) running Win 7 currently on BIOS package 1.50 that are unable to update the BIOS to any later version. Here's what happens: 1. Download any version 1.51 or higher BIOS2. Run BIOS udate utility.3. Yoga automatically goes to restart, but instead of restarting, it will shut down with blinking green power light. 1 blink every three seconds. Machine becomes unresponsive; will not wake up.4. Force shut down by holding power.5. Start up and receive "Secure Flash Authentication failed!"6. At this point, the system is very unresponsive; cannot even power down by holding power button. Must open bottom of Yoga 260 and pull the battery. This is happenning with our entire fleet of Yoga 260s. Troubleshooting:-Disabled Secure Rollback Protection in BIOS-Tried several different BIOS versions from https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-YOGA-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKP... No luck with any of them so far.

Everything was going fine until the day I updated my 20FY to the latest BIOS version (R05ET75W); now as soon as it goes to sleep mode, the olnly way to wake it up is rebooting ang losing all the not saved work.Everytime it happens I regret the day I sold my Dell Vostro to buy this machine.

My S1 Yoga, 20CD-00B1US, is stuck with the screen off and the power LED stuck on. When I try to push or hold the power button it beeps two short beeps and the LED stays solid. I was running the Lenovo Bios Update Software directly from their site. The power cord was plugged in and no other programs were running (aside from background programs). Now it is just stuck like this. Any thoughts or help would be great. I can't even get it to force shut off. Thank you in advance!

System Specifications:- X1 Yoga (Gen 3) with i7-8650U and 16GB RAM- BIOS Version: 1.19- EC Version: 1.08 Hello, exactly one week ago, I changed enabled "Thunderbolt BIOS Assist" in the BIOS to support Linux.  Following this, the system refused to boot to anything but a black screen.  Thus, I sent the machine in for depot repair.  I just received the machine back again today and the same thing occurred after enabling the same setting.  After a long series of calls, I was told that no one is authorized to report BIOS bugs and that I should post here instead.  I sincerely hope this is fixed, as this is a major error that required a motherboard replacement previously and will most likely require one again.  I have started a new ticket for this repair and will be receiving a box tomorrow.  However, I wanted to make sure this is passed along to someone who can fix this error.
