I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hey all,

I've been having a lot of trouble with one of my computers lately and I'm looking for some help.

The items will be working perfectly fine and then all of a sudden they will freeze up and won't do anything. I have to restart the system and then they are fine again for a while until the next time it happens.

I'm thinking this is an XP issue because this computer didn't do this with windows 2000.

All of a sudden the computer will go nuts. Seems all forms of normal input cease functioning.
If you touch the mouse the pointer doesn't move but the computer starts doing all kinds of random things. Like loading numerous new instances of browser, pops up all kinds of things from computer shutdown screen to help forms.
Of course seems that none of these things will work because you don't have normal input.

Three fingered salute doesn't work.

I do not think this is a virus or other malware. Multiple checks with antivirus and things like adware and spybot turn up nothing.

Memory checks all pass all the time.

This problem will pop up at any time. Some times it could go all day without the problem showing up.

A browser doesn't have to be running. Sometimes when the only thing running is a game and it will happen. The game isn't necessarily causing it be it will pop up without games.

It doesn't seem to be any particular action that causes it but I'm usually using the mouse when it happens.

I don't have an optical mouse. And neither mouse or keyboard are USB.

I'm at about my wits end on this one. No errors show up in the event log.
Since normal function ceases when this happens I can't look at the task manager to see what's happening. But the computer doesn't really freeze in that sense.

This all started when I installed XP. I love the XP operating system exc... Read more

I'm still not convinced it's not malware. Try running Trendmicro's Housecall on the machine. If it passes that, I'll believe it's malware-free.

Try using MSCONFIG to turn off everything but the most essential features. Leave all MS Services on, but turn off everything else you know you are not going to need. If the problem goes away, you can assume it's something that you've turned off on the list, and then it's simply a matter of finding out what it is, and getting rid of it.

None of your devices are battery-powered or wireless ? Intermittant problems like that are usually batteries going dead.

The fact that Task Manager will not launch indicates past or present infection. Install Dial-a-Fix and see if there are any "restrictive policies" that prevent TM from launching.

Hey all,

I just installed Windows 7 earlier today. The install went fine, until right near the end. I had to click 'next' to a question, which I had already done a few times, but this time the tab was not responding. I tried again and again, then finally just hovered over the tab and pressed enter on my keyboard which did the trick.

Now that the OS is up and running, everything is working fine but I just have one problem. My left mouse button is doubling up as a 'back' button. So if I am in a folder and want to double click a new folder, or even if I just left click on empty space, it will take me backwards one folder. A nightmare in internet explorer aswell.

For the time being Ive switched the two buttons around, so I have an action button, but no right click (on the left mouse button now) anymore.

Ive tried installing the original drivers, and in compatibility for Vista, but nothing seems to fix the problem. Anybody have any suggestions? Id be real grateful to hear them

Oh and the mouse is a Logitech LX7 wireless.

A:Mouse going crazy !!!!!!

Go to Start and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Are there any problem devices noted there?

If not,
Click on the "Mouse and other pointing device" category to expand it.
Right click on your Mouse and uninstall it.
Reboot the computer and let Windows redetect the mouse.

If it's still acting funny - then try another mouse.
Test either with another mouse of the same type (PS2 or USB)
or Test with another mouse of a different type (PS2 or USB)
That way, if problems continue, you'll have started troubleshooting the connectors on the mobo.

Hello everyone, I am in dire need of professional help I am a hardcore gamer with a mouse problem!

My problem is my mouse goes crazy like it has a mind of its own. When it goes nuts it moves to the bottom left of the screen, up and across the left and bottom. It also right/left clicks conituously where the mouse cursor is. This happens for a few minutes then the mouse would totally stop working. Sometimes before hand the mouse curse would freeze a few times then go back to normal, but then in the end will it will go nuts again.

Before the mouse goes crazy the things I was doing were; surfing the net, playing games from counter strike to world of warcraft… basically I know from many pass experiences that I can do “anything” and the problem will arise.

Out of 3 of my mouses, the problem occurred on two, the “Aopen O-35G Optical mouse” and an “Atech Ball mouse” both these mousse are PS2 and have the problem. My really old “Logitech M-C48 ball mouse” which is a serial mouse has no problem at all, it works perfectly fine but is not satisfactory for playing games.

I have tested my mouses on a different computer and they work perfectly with no problems.

I cleaned my mouses thoroughly making sure all are sparkling clean where the balls and the optical light is.

I also tried using a PS2 to USB adapter on both my PS2 mouses, and then plugging into a spare USB 1.1 socket, but the problem still persist.

I also tried different surfaces for the optical mouse, such as dull... Read more

yesterday, I had high speed cable dialup added from Comcast using an external modum.. Now while I'm on the net for extended periods of time (20 min) my mouse takes off on it's on. When I touch it, it moves all over the place. But not where I try to direct it to. I restarted several times. It works for a while and back to the same thing. some times it this happens it disconnects me from the internet. And locks me completly out of the system except the crazy movement of the mouse pointer. I called Comcast and they say that it has nothing to do with there system. I upgraded my internet explorer to the lastes version. I started using another mouse. The same problem. When I had dialup access I never had this problem. It this related to installing the high speed or is this something else.

Hello everyone,

I have a very frustrating problem. Every few minutes my mouse starts acting very erratically. By this I mean:

--> The cursor will just freeze in place for 2-20 seconds and then start working again.
--> The cursor will jump around the screen or it will "jumP" ahead for a few seconds
--> The cursor will click in places where I did not even click.
--> The cursor will scroll down on the page without me clicking.

All this lasts a very short time and then the mouse goes back to normal for a while before it happens again. As far as I know, everything else keeps working (keyboard Internet, audio) as it should. usually pressing Alt+Ctrl+Del will unfreeze the mouse.

It is a basic PS2 mouse that came with my computer. I've also tries a USB mouse that I bought and the same exact problem occurred, so I don't think the problem is with the mouse itself.

I've tried reformatting my computer but it did not help. I also tried starting in safe mode but nothing changed. Please help.

Hi, I'm having problems with my mouse. At totally random points in time my cursor starts moving by it self and clicking and dragging icons etc. It's quite a funny thing to see actually. First I was afraid of a Trojan or Hijack attempt but I used spywareblaster, spybot search and destroy and ad-aware and I don't seem to have any virus or trojan.
I have a logitch optical mouse so I went to the logitech-site and they tell me to update a program called setpoint. I did install it but it doesn't help. I have no idea what this program does anyway!?
My mouse is clean, there is no dust and i'm using wood as surface, this has always worked fine.

Does anybody have an idea what I can do against this?

I am asking this question for a friend of mine that has a dell
computer. He is running Windows XP on a dell laptop and I can find more information if needed. Does anyone in this forum know anything about a virus, worm or trogan that effects the mouse pointer on the computer. He said that his mouse will take off and go to the (if I understood correctly) top right corner of the screen. He said he changed to an optical mouse and loaded the new software and it worked okay until the next time he booted the computer and it did the same thing again. Evidently it will be stable for a short while and then take off on its own. Dell tech support has been no help. Does anyone have anything on this or how to fix it?

Thanks in advance for your help, Larry

This is my third mouse on this only 2 or 3 yr old computer. It just starts clicking on its own and pulling up screens for awhile then stops. I clear off all the screens and start again and it will start up again and stop. I've thought it was the mouse twice but this is another new mouse and it's started doing it again. Anyone know whats wrong? It's not a wireless mouse. Also How does a wireless mouse work, would it plug in, in the same spot my regular mouse does?

I posted in another thread and was told might should try posting here.

My mouse is acting crazy. I will type about 4 words and it jumps back to the beginnig and types over everything I previously typed. Also, wherever my mouse is...like if over the send button...sometimes it sends it w/out me hitting the button.

Could I have a malware doing this??

I seem to have got this virus(?) which makes my mouse pointer go crazy. The pointer jumps around, all over the screen, opening and closing windows, clicking on icons. So far it has not done any damage, but frequently interrupts my work. I'm not sure its a virus or something else (worm, spyware, ...). If I move the mouse when its active, it keeps acting up. But when I stop using the mouse for some time, it dies down. I find that I can use the mouse only slowly without activating it. Any quick, jerky movements tend to activate the flurry of activity.

I've got MS Windows XP Professional on my PC. I've used updated Norton 2003 and McAfee, but they have not been able to find and delete it. I use Rogers Internet, and I'm surprised it was able to pass through their firewall. I use both IE as well as Firefox. The bug becomes active whether I'm on online or offline.

Can anyone help? Thanks

A:Crazy mouse virus?

Hi drtunio,

You've either got a bad mouse or a bad trojan. I'm pretty sure it's the mouse. Go out and buy a cheap new one--you should keep a spare around anyway--or borrow one from a friend and try it out. If that doesn't solve the problem let me know.

My touch-pad mouse is going crazy. It's highlighting and opening extra windows when i just slightly touch it.
Ive researched and people said that it could be because of a virus I've done scans and found none. I recently just had a new keyboard fitted as the other one was missing keys. Could this somehow be the problem?
Ive ran my laptop in safemode the touch-pad mouse seems to be fine goes crazy but not as much.
It's really starting to bug me.
Thank very much for any help received.

Ok, my brand new Dell latitude was delivered today with Windows 7. My mouse (I have tried both a wired one and a wireless one) is switching from the standard pointer to up and down (and sometimes sideways) arrows, and then out of no where, a magnifying glass shows up. The screen starts jumping, shrinking in and out, bizarre. It is extremely difficult to navigate now and I consider myself somewhat tech savvy.

I have gone back into my system setup for the mouse and everything seems ok.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Windows XP operating system, but that may not apply. My Logitech mouse is only about 6 months old. I had switched from a Windows 7 system on a new computer back to my old computer with XP on it but am using a new mouse with it.

The mouse pointer sometimes just goes haywire and points anywhere on the screen it wants to and I have to shake the mouse around and go get it and put it back where it belongs. Any ideas?

There are a few steps you could take

Check the Logitech website for an updated driver
Support + Downloads

You could reinstall the driver completely.

You could try a spare mouse and see if the problem persists which would narrow it down to being an XP problem or the mouse at fault.

You could double check and make sure the mouse if fully compatible with Windows XP

I've been having this problem for ages, and even formatted my harddrive the other day and did a clean install of XP, which didn't eliminate the problem.

When in Internet Explorer, I often have a problem whereby when I click the little arrow by the address bar (to get the dropdown list of previously visited sites) or the favourites list, the list will appear for just a fraction of a second and then disappear, so I click again and the same happens. If you repeatedly click the arrow in quick succession in your own IE, you'll get an idea of what's happening to me (though I'm not repeatedly doing it in quick succession). Similarly, often when I hit the "back" button I hear Windows make 2 click sounds instead of 1, and I am taken back 2 pages when I only want to go back 1. It's really annoying!

I tried playing about with the doulbe click settings of my mouse earlier, changing the speed at which you have to double click, but it's still happening. Note, it doesn't happen every single time I click the address bar or back button, but maybe around 70% of the time. I don't have double click switched on for single click. I'm not sure if it's maybe my mouse? Could anyone let me know if this is a known problem? Thanks

The forums are really busy, that explains why logs get behind. If you still need some help, please start with posting a new log in this thread. Don't start with a new thread.
Then I'll take a look.
