How do I get Windows Live Mail 2012 export to work?

Q: How do I get Windows Live Mail 2012 export to work?

I'm working on a laptop with Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail 2012 is not exporting email properly.

There are 4,008 messages in the Inbox folder but the export function will only copy out ONE message. A web search finds that this function of WLM 2012 is very badly broken and apparently Microsoft is not going to fix it. No difference in its dysfunction if it's set to work offline.

Exporting from Outlook then into WLM worked fine, but WLM can only (not) export to WLM and Exchange, which requires being on a network with an Exchange server.

Preferred Solution: How do I get Windows Live Mail 2012 export to work?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: How do I get Windows Live Mail 2012 export to work?

Open the blue File menu
Select Export email > Email messagesSelect Microsoft Windows Live MailChose the export destination folder, [Make New Folder] is a bit tricky, the Folder: field doesn't always automatically get updated, I just click on the folder above it, then click on the folder I created. As long as both the highlighted folder and the name of the folder in the Folder: filed match, you're good to go.
Press [OK]Make sure the radio button All folders is the active selection.
Press [Next]The export should begin and every eMail message should be in the destination folder you chose.

I have an Windows (Vista) notebook with outlook 2007, and now I have an new notebook with Windows 8.1. Where I want to export my mail & contact to Windows live mail, how can I import this in WLM on my other notebook?

I already have configure my mail on WLM where I can receive and send messages. I tried something with the program Mailstore 8 but my mail is now on another computer.

I also find this link: how to export mail, calendar contact in outlook to windows live mail clientWith the "Outlook Conversion Application" solution but is this possible on different computers and has WLM an import function?

A:Export mail and contacts from Outlook 2007 to Windows live mail 2012?

Don I might be way off track here mate but was the Outlook account the same email address as you have set up in WLM?

Just a thought you might try adding an account to WLM using the old address and password. I did this with my old account from my service provider then went to a Hotmail account.
Now admittedly it was still within WLM but worth a try.

What I will do is try and add my work account (Outlook) to my WLM and see if it works.

PS It added the account but I have to get the POP and STMP settings right first.

It seems to me that the only way I can access my Hotmail account with Windows 8.1 is by using Windows Live Mail 2012. I set up the Outlook.com account and that works fine, but the Hotmail account does not send or receive emails. I get 'logon messages' asking for my password all the time. I tried to set up the Hotmail account using the same WLM settings as on my desktop computer with Win 7, but the categories are not the same for Win 8.1 and the info cannot be entered. I have tried to follow the suggestions that I have seen in other threads, but they haven't helped.
Right now, I have the following settings for my Hotmail: My ID is my Hotmail address, along with my password that I use; the incoming server is POP3; the server field is pop3.live.com with SSL checked and port 995; the outgoing server is smtp.live.com with port 25, with the SSL box checked. My desktop computer WLM 2012 is set up as follows: the ID's etc are my Hotmail addresses and passwords, but there is a server URL....http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/sync.aspx[/url] instead of outgoing and incoming servers etc. There is no Advanced tab here as in Win 8.1.
I hope my explanation is not too confusing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

A:Solved: Can't get my Hotmail account to work with Windows Live Mail 2012.

with pop it will depend ifyou are leaving the email on the server

if you log into your hotmail account are the emails there

Why not allow hotmail to automatically setup
it works OK on WLM 12 on 8.1 I have set up quite a few hotmail/outlook accounts

Also it works with the mail app as well

I'm trying to transfer my Windows Live Mail e-mail contacts to Hotmail. I've converted them all to a csv file (5.65kb). When I import them to Hotmail only the names get transferred.....not the e-mail addresses. Any ideas? Thanks

A:Export E-mail contacts from Windows Live Mail to Hotmail

Windows Live Mail is Hotmail, with a new look. So I am confused as to what you are trying to do.
It sounds like you created a whole new name for Windows Live Mail... you didn't need to do that.

If you just open Windows Live Mail and logon as the HotMail name you will see all of the contacts.

This thread was previously closed due to lack of answers, however I found a solution.

When importing a csv file into Hotmail, the email address field is expected as "E-mail Address" however in the csv file created by Windows Live Mail the email address field is "Email Address".

Note the missing hyphen. This means that the email address is not transferred over to Hotmail.

The solution is to edit the csv file using Notepad - simply add the hyphen to the top line of the csv file, save the file and import it into Hotmail.

If you have the same problem with other fields, a useful test to see what field names Hotmail expects is to export a contact from Hotmail and then inspect the csv file which is created using Notepad.

I am using Windows Live mail in Windows 7. I want to reinstall Windows 7. Obviously I want to preserve all my contact e mail addresses. I have tried to export them to a memory stick which worked OK. Hoever, the addresses were save in Xcell form. I will not be installing Office this time because I only have version 2000, which does not run very well. How can I save in straightforward text form which is useable?

A:Windows live mail export

Hi andsome, I suggest getting a Windows Live ID by creating a Hotmail dot Com account, use it to sign in to Windows live Mail. Export your contacts in .csv format then import to new account. Now you will never lose them. If using other account/s, it/they can be added to WLM, use POP to access them if possible. You can delete the Hotmail account if you want.
P.S. I'm using WLM last release version of 2009, its far superior than the latest version. I have a copy if you want it.

Microsoft is "upgrading" people's  @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, and @msn.com accounts, to a new Outlook.com (built upon the latest Office 365 infrastructure), which is INcompatible with Live Mail 2012 (and presumably older versions as well):  Effective late June 2016, Windows Live Mail 2012 will no longer synchronize emails, contacts, and calendar events from these email accounts.
People who use Windows Live Mail 2012 to connect to other email services, including Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or other services that use POP3 or IMAP protocols, do not need to take action.
Is this another veiled attempt to force users to "upgrade" from Windows 7?
Users can still access their e-mail via their web browser(s).   Or they can use the new Outlook.com and/or a Mail app on Windows 8.1/10

Hi New Member here posting his first question, can you help please?

I wish to transfer the messages in my WLMail on my pc to my WLMail on my laptop.

I have already set up my email accounts on my laptop so just need advice on how to get the messages across.

Thank you in advance.

A:Windows Live Mail Export/Import

Windows Mail has an "export" function and you can save the file to Desktop, transfer to USB drive or CD/DVD and then "import" that file to the other computer.

This will work for Contacts and Mail, but I've not been able to get the Message Rules to transfer over easily.

However, I DID find the registry entries where the Message Rules are stored and I transfered those over, but WM ran VERY buggy afterwards, and I would not recommend trying it.

Friends
I've given up fighting Windows Live Mail [the client-side version] many bugs and have moved on. But I need to get the Contacts, and then the folders/Messages. Every time I attempt a .CSV Export of the Contacts WLM crashes [hangs, spins up CPU, does not resolve itself]. Anyone know the cause or cure for this?

Failing a cure of this yet-another-bug, where is the Contacts store? Anyone know its file Extension? how to safely copy until I can figure out how to extract and use?

Apparently WLM does not like any copies of OE on a system... it monkeys with Outlook Express system files when it cranks up - I guess they share stuff under the hood?.. dunno. Attempts to get answers to these various issues on "Microsoft Answer" are time-wasted, in my experience.

Hi,

Please note that this is not Windows Live (Hotmail) but the offline Windows application with that name. I find Windows Live Mail as a great way to manage my email, I want to manage my contacts there too. However, all my contacts are currently loaded on my iPhone (I have the contacts manually created on the phone a long time ago).

Thanks for your suggestions.

A:How to export iPhone contacts to Windows Live Mail?

If you want to directly export the contacts use a small application intended to run on your PC called CopyTrans Contacts.

1. Run the tool on your computer and connect your iPhone. You can download the program from here: export iPhone contacts

2. Once your iPhone contacts appear, drag and drop a selection to a folder on your PC

3. Select the type of contact files you wish your iPhone contacts to get exported in. Windows Live Mail recognizes Windows Contacts, so select that format

4. Your iPhone contacts will be saved to your PC. Now go to your Windows Live Mail application and import the contacts from the folder on your PC where you saved them in

Hi,

I am currently replacing my old computer with a new one and part of that process is to transfer all of my email messages from my old computer to the new one. I use Windows Live Mail for my mail program. I went to the Microsoft web site and looked at the Help instructions for  Exporting and Importing messages and found it to be very straightforward.

I created an empty folder on USB drive and then proceeded to run the Export procedure. This involved selecting a destination folder for the exported files, and selecting which folders to include in the export operation. Under my primary email address, I have 10 subfolders, in addition to the usual Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, etc. On the screen where I was asked what format I wanted to use, I selected "Windows Live Mail Format" .On the screen where I am asked which folders that I wanted to Export I selected "All Folders". Then I clicked Next and received a message that the folders had been exported successfully.

I then took the USB drive to the new computer, started Windows Live Mail and then attempted to do the Import operation. I chose to import all folders and then initiated the Import. I got a message that the Import was successful. At the bottom of the account list was a folder that was titled Imported Folders. When I opened it, the only thing that was shown was the Inbox and Deleted Items subfolder, and also the Outbox folder. None of the other folders that I chose to back up were there. Als... Read more

Welcome again to Seven Forums Wembley You'd want to see if you can convert the file into a .csv file that you can then import into WLM. See if these instructions allow you to create a .csv file

How to Change a Word File to a Comma Delimited File

Then use these instructions to import the .csv file

To import offline contacts into Windows Live Mail

Open Windows Live Mail by clicking the Start button . In the search box, type Mail, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Live Mail.

In the lower-left corner, select Contacts.
Click Import on the ribbon.
Select the file format that matches your exported contacts (.csv or .vcf).
Click Browse and then select the folder containing your exported contacts.
Click Next and select the check boxes next to the fields that you want to import.
Click Finish.

I haven't used Windows Live Mail 2012 in many years, so someone else here will need to address your issue with it.

Congratulations on your purchase of a very nice refurbished PC with Windows 7.
Is it the "Home Premium" version or the "Professional" version?
If it's the "Home Premium" version, you're stuck with Windows 7 reaching end-of-life support on January 14, 2020.
If it's the "Professional" version, support for it may be able to be extended for another 9 - 21 months or longer.
I'll be testing that possibility after next month's patch Tuesday.

Now every time I try to get his emails back, they just revert back to the messed up state, vanishing from the proper folder they were put it, using recovered data as it's way of accepting the emails, I am not used to the client, so I am unsure what and how it acts\works\displays, there is the main email block near the top on the left panel that is standard in any client, but then it has a secondary group of folders under that labelled "Storage" in another group of the same headings (albeit some in numerous "recovered" sub folders as well), and no matter how many times I try and move them over, they keep coming back as rescued files.

I have uninstalled the client, reinstalled it, and it makes it worse, putting back what files I have been able to move over from the proper in-boxes etc, as recovered files again, I have then uninstalled it again using Revo, cleaning out all it's leftovers from the hidden files etc as well, then run junk file cleaners to clear the all out, rebooted, run the junk files cleaners again, double checking no files had came back again then reinstalling it again, and they still come back again, but a variation during this, and that's they are listed in sl... He had Windows Live Mail in his Windows 7 desktop, so I installed Windows Essentials 2012 in the notebook as well to use a familiar e-mail application. I setup the same account and the first days it worked flawlessly. Yesterday my father told me he could not sent mail. There was a popup to enter the user name and password. I could not make it work. Out of curiosity, I configured the same mail account in Outlook 2010 using exactly the same settings, servers, ports, user name and password. And of course it worked! It also works without any problem in Windows Live Mail in his Windows 7 PC. What's going on here? I thought to backup the account, uninstall Windows Essentials and reinstall it but I'm not sure it will help and it was rather late so I postponed it. Any ideas? I already tried to disable Windows Defender and Windows Firewall and test settings such as port 465, require secure connection etc. Nothing did the job.

Thank you in advance.

PS: Just in case this info helps, I live in Greece, Athens and my father's ISP is OTENET (now called COSMOTE) with default POP host mail.otenet.gr, default SMPT host mailgate.otenet.gr. The user name can either be my email address or just the bit before @ of my email address. I tried both didn't work.

Hi

I have installed Windows Live Mail Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3505.0912) I would like to send it into the tray if I close live mail, that worked under Windows 7 but does not work unter Windows 8

does anyone know the solution?

I think that function is gone in Windows 8. I read somewhere to try to run WLM using compatibility mode then do it the same way as Windows 7, but for me that just crashed WLM.

After microsoft messed whit their mailserver to force people off the quite decent for light use Windows mail 2012, I got it working whit my outlook account whit selecting IMAP, but now its slow to get emails, it sometimes uses 30sek to delete or mark a email as read, any way to get it to respond snappy as before? some way to get the outlook-link or what its called working? like unofficial update to the program?

System is windows 10 Pro.
(and please, do not suggest that horrid mail app, it is so lacking in basic features).

What is a good e-mail to replace Windows Live 2012.

I don't want to pay for Microsoft's PAY THROUGH THE NOSE Office Suite just to get OUTLOOK. I want to be able to use my MSN, LIVE, etc e-mail addresses and be able to store my e-mails on my computer, just like Windows Live Mail allowed me to do. I have 3 desktops all running Windows 7 Pro 64.

I have imported the settings etc. of one of my Plusnet mail accounts from Thunderbird to Live Mail.

I tested by sending a email to another mail account yet to be imported and replied to the Plusnet account. All seems to work OK except that the Sent box for the Plusnet mail account is not showing the test message.

It must be me, so what have I done wrong, guys?

I have Windows Live Mail 2012 and I use to receive emails from yahoo. I can go to the internet and retrieve my emails going to Yahoo.com, but I use to get them automatically without having to go through the extra steps of going to the internet.
When ever open up Live Mail and click on Send/Receive or f5 button I get a small window asking to log on - Yahoo, asking for user name and password for the following server.
It is auto filled and when I click okay or cancel, within a second or two the same screen pops up again.
My computer is Windows 7 Home premium
