I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

First off, are they enabled in the BIOS?

That's a pretty old machine, HP may not offer XP drivers for it. Perhaps you'd be better off running the version of Windows it came with.

Hey Everybody.

I have an HP OMNIBOOK 4150B. I installed Win XP pro and it ran great. Fixed a bunch of things actually. I lost some minor functionality but that wasn't a big deal. The problem was that when I booted up the computer without it being plugged in(AC), it would freeze up after 30 seconds or so. So basically my laptop became a very portable desktop.

I reinstalled the recovery CD (win 98) and it solved the problem. However, I would really like to run XP with my OMNIBOOK....there must be a way to do it.

I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing this problem or if anyone knew how to fix it.

Anyone know where to get all the drivers?

Hi,

I'm Upagainstthewal (one L). Huge problem. I'm locked out of my HP Omnibook 6000 by a BIOS Password that I didn't even set. I have no clue on what it is or how to retrieve it? Is there a bypass or master password for this. I know that the provider is Phoenix. Can anyone lend a hand in assisting me with this issue?

Hi there,

Google 'CMOS password reset' take your pick. Have used one of these in the past, can't remember which, find one that suits. Often resets to no password...

hi from SA

PS failing that I have heard that taking the bios battery out for a few hours can reset to no password. either way double check whilst googling... plenty of similar events... good luck

I have a Pavilion laptop that was sent in to HP to replace the motherboard. Now the Pavilion thinks it is an Omnibook, so the original Application & Recovery CD's will not work.

Has anyone experienced this?
Is there a way to force the computer to accept the original software? Or do I now need Ominbook sotware & how do I know for which model?

BTW, HP would not make good on it, even though they admitted they installed the wrong motherboard while the laptop was still under warranty. Their reply was that "it happens" and then they wouldn't discuss it any further.

I also have always had a problem with this laptop. When I boot it up, the screen will blank out every few minutes. I use the function key & F12 to switch it from the LCD to an external monitor & back again. That brings my screen back up, but it sometimes happens every few seconds and is a real PITA. Does anyone have an idea on the cause of this problem?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Ange

I have an older HP OmniBook 2000CT with Windows 98 build 4.10.1998 with a Pentium I 133Mhz MMX processor and 32 Mb of RAM. When I insert a CD into the swappable Toshiba XM-2402B CD-ROM drive ("HP F1347A 10x CD-ROM Drive Module") nothing happens. The drive has power and reads the disk, and displays a list of files in windows explorer/my computer and I can browse through the folders. However, when I try to open/run a file, i cant. It either says "handle invalid" or a like message. If you have any idea of how to fix this or where to get a new drive, please tell me.

Hello! I still have my Omnibook XE3 GC, and i am currently using it for my retro games! I would also like to use it  for some simple MS Office tasks, by dual booting WinXp(Currently using Win98SE). So i thought that an upgrade is needed to make my old dinosaur a bit faster! I already got my self two 256mb dimms of ram, and i want to also upgrade my CPU. It currently has a Pentium III 850Mhz. Does anyone know if the board is going to support any faster Pentium III's?They are pretty cheap. I found a tualatin PIII 1.067Ghz on ebay for about 3Euros.Thanks in advance!

A:Omnibook XE3 Upgrade?

The Manuals for that classic machine were long ago retired here. 512 megs of RAM is going to be light on XP. I do seem to recall that the XE3/Pavilion N5400 could accept up to a PIII Mobile up to about 1.3 ghz.

I have an HP OmniBook XE3 that has a BIOS password issue.

Windows Xp Home
Intel Celeron 1.2 GHz
256MB Ram

I wanted to go into my BIOS to disable my notebooks CD rom. I hit the F2 key and when it loads it asks for a password. I have tried to call the guy I bought it from to see if he knows what the password was and he tells me that he forgot what it was.

Does anyone know how to reset the bios password for an HP OmniBook Laptop? I have tried to enter a few of the “backdoor” password for the Phoenix BIOS. I have not found any useful information on what I can do to fix this issue and that is why I came here.

Anyone have any ideas?

The following concerns an HP Omnibook XE3 GF Notebook, running Windows
XP Pro.

Occasionally the screen blanks (completely black) as though the
machine were in standby mode. This may happen soon after booting or
after several hour's use. It may happen more than once on one day, or
maybe it doesn't happen for a couple of weeks.

After power-switch off, or hardware-reset, to shut down the machine,
the standby button re-boots it, but the display is _not_ restored.

However, the display _can_ be restored by: power-switch off, unplug
the power cord, remove the battery, wait a couple of minutes, replace
battery and power cord, press standby button to re-boot.

Having removed/replaced the battery, following a screen blank, Windows
insists on performing a consistency check on the FAT32 hard drive, at
next boot. The last time this happened two errors were found:

Windows will now check the disk.
Volume Serial Number is 2C77-3ED5

\WINDOWS\Prefetch\NTOSBOOT-B00DFAAD.pf first allocation unit is
not valid. The entry will be truncated.
Convert lost chains to files (Y/N)? Yes
336 KB in 2 recovered files.
Windows has made corrections to the file system.

If the screen did not blank, removing/replacing the battery doesn't
cause Windows to perform the hard drive check, at next boot.

I should be grateful for advice as to

why the screen blanks,

I have a HP omnibook Xe2 laptop, yes it is old but it still has some kick to it. I originally replaced the fan because it became too noisy and made a pulsating sound after the laptop had been on enough time for the fan to kick on for a cooling cycle. I now have replaced the fan 3 times. In the beginning, the replacement fans work great, then they begin to make the same pulsating loud vibrating noise. The power cord of the fan is not a variable, it is out of the way. Any help would be great...

I had thought that maybe there is an electrical/power problem with the cord supplying the fan with power. Maybe there is too much power being sent to the fan and is frying the fan making it sound all loud and pulsate. But who knows...

I've had my HP ZT1170 apart a couple of times. Apparently for the same reason as you...broken power plug.

The first time it was split and loose from the board but still intact electrically. I repaired it with JB Weld epoxy.

The next time the solder joint broke. I repaired it with a needle point low wattage iron. I would call it a poor design for a potentially stressed connection...I use it on my Lap not on a desk.

Each time it was like the first...where is that hidden screw? Their engineers have a warped sense of humor.

Also, I noted that the machine was available used for about $700. The MOBO replacement part is $470. Capitalism Lives!!!

When the CD/DVD drive is _not_ in use, its status-light flashes at intervals of approximately 1 second, throughout the time that the machine is powered-on.

The status-light in question is mounted on the switchboard PCA, immediatedly behind the keyboard, not the one mounted on the drawer of the drive, which remains unlit.

It seems that the OS is continuously polling the CD/DVD drive. Is this normal? Is it possible to turn it off?

My laptop

About a month ago I got my first laptop. It is an HP OmniBook 4150 (128 MB of RAM, 300 MHz, 6 gig hard drive). It's by far not the most powerful or recent laptop available <grin> but it gets the job done. It's run Windows NT 4.0 (Workstation), Windows 2000, Windows ME, and Windows XP all on it successfully without any problems. Last night I formatted and did a fresh install of Windows XP Home Edition (I have Pro also but chose to use Home on it). In the past I had WinXP Pro on it and it worked fine also. I recently used the laptop to do my Windows 9x/ME Tweak Guide ( http://members.fortunecity.com/computingx ). Windows XP Home Edition is on it now as I said, and running quite well. It is slightly sluggish at times, but not that bad. It runs very stable and reliably. I am impressed despite the slight performance barriers, but it isn't bothersome. It runs everything I throw at it just fine, even some games I've tried. It's really nice to be able to have the portability if I want/need it. And besides, laptops are just sexy, somehow. :grinthumb

A:My Laptop (HP OmniBook 4150)

If you want to get rid of that sluggishness that you speak of, put another 128mb of memory in it. WinXP requires 128mb and recommends 256mb. That will help out alot.

I tried swapping in a known-good mouse and this failed to resolve the problem. I entered BIOS setup and ensured that both the touchpad and PS2 mouse were configured to work. I uninstalled the mouse drivers and rebooted so Windows2000 would detect and install the mouse. After Windows had installed the Mouse it functioned fine however when logged out and then back in the mouse failed to work again. I flashed the BIOS on the laptop with the latest version (downloaded from HPs Omnibook support site). I installed Windows 2000 SP2. I then removed the mouse drivers again and rebooted. As of this time the issue remains unresolved. The PS2 mouse will not function. The laptop is otherwise funtional, however, and the user can navigate using the touchpad, keyboard, and pointing stick. Incidentally....Event viewer shows no errors....

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

A:Omnibook 6000 PS2 Mouse nonfunctional

Are you using a Synaptec's (sp?) Touchpad (which my lappy has)? If so, you should be able to go into control panel - mouse, and there should be some settings (over and above the default windows mouse settings if you have the synaptec drivers) to have the ps2 mouse enabled as well as the touchpad. You may also want to check out device manager and ensure that there's no conflicts between user input devices.

If you aren't using a Synaptec touchpad.. then ugh.. you may need to contact your laptop manufacturer for assistance.

Since he didn't have much on his hd I decided to do a clean install from the cdrom but after setup copies the files and restarts to begin the installation and right where it says "starting windows" it just hangs there without continuing the installation. I rewrote the mbr and bootsector from recovery console but still nothing. I also reformatted and tried win2000 pro but same thing happens. I noticed the bootup password in the bios is set to enabled but I'm not allowed the option of changing it. Not sure if that has anything to do with the startup problems. Thanks for any help.

I bought a laptop of ebay, at first I could access the internet OK by installing Mozilla firefox and Proxim wifi card, then 2 weeks later, I had problems. I think the previous owner sold it because he could not fix the virus problem. I did install and delete Comodo Firewall (browsing was so slow after Comodo install), then install FireZone alarm. This is HP Omnibook 900, no CD drive, no floppy drive. Windows XP Home, File system is FAT32, so every user account is an administrator.
I could get into yahoo.com, but when I click on a link, it open yahoo.com/8 inches of garbled text and displayed no page found. Same thing with gmail, cnn. I could get into the main page and then anything after that, link would be "page not found" error. I could get into ebay OK at first, but not anymore. If I delete all browsing history and type yahoo, it will find yahoo again, but it will display the same error when I click on a link. Spybot program cannot load and Malwarebytes full scan stated no virus found. I mainly surf and update websites, and I"m using the library computer right now. What to do?

I've got an HP Omnibook 4100 laptop that recently puttered out on me--or, more accurately, the monitor did. Well...the monitor itself works just fine, but it has for some reason pretty much lost the signal from the computer to the screen. Occasionally the picture will come on (usually not for long), and the backlight functions correctly which leads me to believe it's not a problem with the monitor/LCD screen itself, but rather, with a connection between the computer and the monitor.

Anyway, I took it to a computer repair shop. The guy there said that he would venture to guess that there is a bad "connector" (didn't specify what connector), and that the particular connector that had gone bad is usually a weak point in most HP laptops. However, they wanted $42 just to look at it, not to mention what it would cost them to fix it, so I figured I'd better ask someone for help and see if I or a skilled friend can fix it for much less. So my question to you all is, what do you think the problem could be? If it's a bad connector, can you give me some information on what type of connector has probably gone bad and where I can get a replacement? Also, is there anywhere that I can obtain a diagram of the guts of this particular laptop so I better idea of where this "connector" might be?

I need to repair or replace my hp omnibook xt6200 display. I see a number of 6000 series available for sale on the internet. Are these interchangeable.

Can I remove my nonworking xt6200 display and replace it with a working 6000 series display.

I would suggest that you contact the HP hotline for an answer to this. The 'devil will be in the details'!!!

If you have a brightness problem on this laptop, you may have to take it in for service. What operating system (version of Windows) are you running? Have you tried using the Fn key and the "sun" image keys on the top row of the keyboard?
