I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My parents have just bought a new Toshiba Satellite C855 -1J1, and it wont work unless it is plugged in. If it is on and you pull the power adapter out or in any way disconnect the power it will turn off. If it is turned off it will not turn on without the power adapter being plugged in.

I have checked to make sure the battery is inserted correctly and it is. The status of the battery is also showing that it is at 100%, but it will not work at all in anyway with just its battery and you can only get it to work with an external adapter to power it.

Before I take it back the shop does anyone have any idea what it may be.

A:New laptop wont turn on unless plugged in

I would take it back. Sounds like a bad connection somewhere.

What you can do is check all the pins of the battery and battery plug-ins whether they look OK - but that's about all the diagnostics that come to mind.

Hi guys,

I just replaced a bad T61 power jack ( I'm sure it must've been bad since two of the wire connections came loose from the jack itself). The new power jack had all the connections to the jack just fine, so I plugged it in, connected it to mobo, put everything together and still no power.

Could it be that when the connections came loose originally the motherboard got damaged in the process? I felt almost sure it was the dc power jack as soon I saw those loose connections, but i guess not?

EDIT: To give you guys a better idea. I bought one of these: T61 DC Power Jack

I also tried plugging in the charger (which I've tested with a multimeter, and it is also a new chrarger) into the NEW port, then trying to get power from the contacts on the mobo connector (white piece in the picture). I tried pushing down with the negative connector to one of the black wire contacts, and pushing the positive tip to one of the red wire contacts and did not see any power there, so I'm wondering if I tested it wrong?

This problem is from a friend of mine but he doesn't has a computer now. Yesterday he was charging his powerbank through his Laptop (Asus bought 3 months ago) USB port. After a while the computer was shutdown and won't turn on, even when it's plugged through its power adapter.

Is there any solution to this?

A:Laptop wont turn on after charging power bank

Hi and welcome to TSG.

As annoying as it can be to have to do it, your best option if it appears totally dead is to RMA the laptop if it is only 3 months old. Fiddling about with it too much trying to diagnose the problem could end up invalidating any warranty your friend has.

The only simple checks I would do are to try and power it up with and without the power cord connected.
Then remove the battery (assuming it is a removable one) and try it again with the power adapter attached.

It could be a problem with the laptop or that the power brick has just failed, it happens occasionally.

I am on windows 7 64bit, I have listed in my speaker system 4 different devices

this is the order they are listed and their status also

Sharp HDMI - Disabled (unplugged) - I have to manually enable it when I want to plug my laptop to my tv

Speakers - Ready - Default Device

Headphones - Disabled, unplugged

Headset Earphones - Default Device when plugged in (otherwise not visable on list)

Here is the issue

If I were to plug in the Earphones Headset Earphones without the Sharp HDMI being disabled (but still unplugged) my laptop for some reason selects both Headset Earphones and Speakers, some sound comes out the speakers, others the Headset Earphone

If I disble the Sharp HDMI then when I plug the Headset Earphones in it swaps as it should to the Headset Earphones making them the default device and only the Headset Earphones work so when I pull the Headset Earphones plug it automatically switches back to the Speakers, this is how I want it to work but without having to disable the HDMI in order to do it.

would anyone hazard a guess to what is going on here?.. thanks

A:Speakers wont turn off when headphones are plugged in

In most cases (all that I've seen), the HDMI is inactive unless an HDMI cable is plugged into the PC.

The normal (and usual) speaker/headset mode is the speakers are muted when a headset is plugged in. Some RealTek control panel's will allow reconfiguring this so that either the speakers are muted (normal) when headset is plugged in or speakers are still active when a headset is plugged in.

If you haven't done it, install the latest AMD (ATI) drivers for the HD3450 and see if that makes any difference. Also check your RealTek HD Audio Manager (assuming you have one) to see if there are any speaker options that could affect what is happening. There are different RealTek versions, depending on the PC or motherboard vendor (in your case you should be using ASUS supplied RealTek drivers).

So I have T450 (20BU-S08U00), and I face this very annoying issue sometimes: I turn off the charged laptop, grab it with me, and when I try to power it on later (on battery), it ignores me completely. I press power button, remove the battery (my model does not have the internal battery, so I can remove it easily), etc; whatever I do, it behaves like a brick. When I get home, I just plug the power cable, the power button led blinks a few times, and after that I can even remove the power cable immediately, and it will turn on normally when I press the power button. So, somehow the laptop gets stuck, and the only way to kick it is to plug the power cable (which might be immediately removed back). Could anyone please share some ideas how to fix that? Thanks

A:Charged T450 sometimes does not turn on unless power cable is plugged

Do you have the latest BIOS?  If not, try that first.
Are you still under warranty?  If BIOS update doesn't fix it, the power circuitry may be sick.

Hey everyone, I apologize if this is a repeat question but I couldn't find anything similar with the search function.

So here's the problem, I recently built my own computer, and everything seemed to go well until I tried to turn my computer on. The two of the fans have LED's and for just a second they lit up and all the fans gave a quick spin, but then the whole thing just went off. I tried turning it off and on and nothing happened at all. I unplugged the PSU completely to work on the inside, checked that everything was pushed in fully, made sure the panel was plugged in correctly, then tried again and the same thing happened with the quick spin and then off.

At this point I've tried several different things, but nothing changed. But when I took the power cables out of the GPU (which is still connected to the PCI slot) the computer finally started. Of course I'm very happy its on now, that narrows down the problem some, but the whole reason I got a GPU was for gaming so obviously I want that working.

So I installed windows 8.1, upgraded to 10 and updated my mobo to see if that would fix the problem, but unfortunately no. I also tried using some modular cables to the gpu to see if maybe the other ones were bad, no good. I haven't been able to test the second PCI slot because the way the case is designed blocks the huge gpu from fitting in that spot. I could try pulling out mobo to test it but I just really didn't want to gut the whole thing after building it,... Read more

So i came over to my friends house today, brought my laptop, and connected to her network. I was on for maybe 10 minutes if that, and my computer just turned off. I thought that maybe the battery died, so i plugged it into the wall and turned it on and realized it didnt have a low battery because it didnt resume windows and it said that my battery had 80% charge. It also said that it was plugged in, but not not charging.

Whenever i unplugged the power adapter out of the back of the computer, my computer would just turn itself off, and it wont let me turn on my computer at all without it being plugged into the wall.

It just started doing this and i have no idea whats wrong with it. I have a Lenovo 300 N100 Laptop. Dont know what all specs i would need to give for this type of problem. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Laptop won't turn on without being plugged in

Try draining the laptop power by taking the battery out and not having it connected to the power jack then flip it over and hold the power button for about 20-30 sec then put back the battery and try to turn it on also try to find a program to test the battery life of the battery it may be dead or acting up.

Last night my computer blue screened about 3 times then it just stopped turning on altogether. Wheni plug the power supply into the motherboard the neon fan turns on for a milisecond but that seems to be the only way that i can tell that there's power going to the motherboard.

I've tried 4 different power supplies, different processor, different BIOS batteries, different RAM, etc, but no matter how many times i try to turn it on it just wont turn on.

I do recall doing something innthe BIOS last night which seemed to start this dilemer. I went into power management and did something to the power switch option, then set everything back to default settings.

This is when things started to happen then my pc just wouldn't turn on at all.

It's a socket939 MSI CoreCell.

Could something i did in the BIOS really be causing this problem and is there a way to fix it?

Like i said there does seem to be power going to the motherboard but it simply wont turn on (i even tried different power switches just in [email protected]

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want to buy another 939 motherboard as most shops don't cell them any more and it means i'd have to buy a new processor too.

A:Computer wont turn on with power switch but there is power going through it?

If it is a BIOS setting, removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes should clear it. Since you've already changed the battery more than once, it would seem that is not the problem. Considering what you already tried, it might be the motherboard itself or possibly the graphics card but my money is on the motherboard. Just to be sure do you have another graphics card to test with?

A:Z575 - Laptop won't turn on even if plugged in

Hi CodyCheatham ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
A white battery led status description (page 30) :
The remaining power of the battery is more than 80% of its capacity, or the computer is operating on battery power with the remaining power between 20% and 80% of its capacity.
We know that the battery is receiving power , but to further isolate follow the power check out (page 21-22)as initial steps. If removing the battery and connecting to a known working ac adapter and would still not power on  , then checking on possibilities on systemboard issue specially if even using the Novo button to turn on is the same .
Consider having it checked for advance board level isolation and confirmation if needed thru technical support or service center in your location.
Hope this help answer your query.

My Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 wont boot when the power cable is plugged in, unless it's in safe mode. If it's running on battery, it will boot fine normally, but as soon as I plug the power cable in, it freezes. While on battery power, I've uninstalled EVERYTHING. If I boot windows on battery power, then plug it in, it's fine if I dont do anything, but as soon as I do something like open IE, try to shut it down, etc, it freezes.

So to summarise, everything has been uninstalled, safe mode and battery works fine, but plugged in freezes the laptop.

Anyone got any ideas?

So I apologize ahead of time if I'm breaking any noobish rules, I'm only slightly frantic here... Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!

I own an Alienware m17x r4 that's about 3 years old. I was playing a game on it and it just suddenly turned itself off (had my headphones on and heard kind of a popping sound, dunno if relevant). I checked the cable because it comes out sometimes, but it was still plugged in, but the light on the cable where it plugs into the laptop itself was turned off.

I thought the cable connected to the power brick had come unplugged but that was okay too. I plugged the cable into a different outlet and the light came back on (it wasn't plugged into the laptop at this time) so I plugged it back into the laptop but the light immediately went out and nothing. I tried unplugging the outlet cable from the brick and plugging back in, but no dice. (did this a few times with light coming on but turning off when plugged into laptop.)

There's a button on the bottom of the laptop right by the battery that when pressed, five lights turn on. Just noticed this so I don't really know what it means; I'm assuming it tells me how charged the battery is. If so it's telling me the battery is fully charged then. Anyway, tried turning on without charger, nothing. Tried turning on without battery in and with charger plugged in, nothing.

I'm hoping that it's somehow both the battery and the charger are bad, but before the computer turned off in the middle ... Read more

A:Laptop won't turn on; charger turns off when plugged in

Greatings pinkgalaxies and welcome to the forum I will try to answer all the questions I can.

Correct if pressed and released tells you what the charge is. If held down the amount of light that light up tell life of battery or something to that effect.

I read somewhere about a bad charger overloading something or other. Could this be possible? Also, my main concern is the things on my laptop. I can do without it for a few days or whatever as long as I know my stuff is still safely contained within. I guess I'm just looking for a little assurance here, Ha.

I have a power for one of mine that when it get to hot it cut off one it cools then back on. I do not think that is the concern here. The data is safe is stored on a hard drive (disclaimer unless the drive is going bad).

What I think is going on one of two maybe three things

1. Replace the power brick with a new one form Dell.
2. The board that is in the system that the power plugs into is bad.
3. The power switch is bad may need to be replaced or cleane... Read more

Hey all, ive had my custom computer for probably nearing 6 months now and its been working wonderfully but recently i have been having a problem where every time i tried to turn my computer on the fans would rev up lights would blink on but they would immediately shut off and nothing else happens. It made me do this a few times and finally my computer would boot up and run fine. Last night while i was on, it randomly shut off and would not turn on no matter how many attempts.

Ive done some basic troubleshooting such as remove graphics card and try to boot, remove excess ram, remove all ram. nothing worked. finally i had the idea to change the power cord. much to my surprise this actually worked and i had 3 successful boots in a row. after having it up and running i turned it off to apply some updates that needed to be done and now im back to the same point of now boot up the light flick fans try to run but stop and nothing happens.

i know the motherboard is receiving power cause lights on the mobo are on as well has the graphics card. Additionally i also pulled my PSU out and cheated it to make sure it was running and it ran just fine.

Ive run out of ideas and dont know what to do now so any help would be appreciated. Im no expert i just can imagine that anything hardware wise has gone bad since it booted and ran fine even after the problem started but im worried with to many attempts it could cause problems to internal components.

Thanks for your help!

Hi there,i just unpacked my laptop from a flight and now it suddenly doesn?t turn on anymore.when I press the power button nothing happens, no indicator leds, nothing. When I release the button I hear that thud noise you hear when you manually kill a laptop by keeping the button down. Now the weirdest thing: when I plug in the adaptor the fans start spinning like crazy, immediately when I plug it in, I don?t even need to push the power button.the same thing happens when the laptop is unplugged and I keep the power/reset button down for a longer time, the fans start spinning out of control but no leds, no nothing, and they immediately stop when I let go.If anyone has any clue how this could be or what to do please tell me. I will contact the seller on Monday (I have had this laptop for 2.5 years, thank god the insurance runs for three years) but as I?ve just moved to another country I?m not sure if that?s going to work out.Any help or suggestions appreciated.

A:Lenovo y50 70 Wont Turn On Only POwer

Hi AmericanFighter ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
The burnt smell and the boom noise heard before the issue is an important event that should be notified with the technical support team.
As some SN may not show readily on the warranty look up page at the moment due to some changes in the server  you may call in Lenovo tech for an immediate identification and recommendation for repair on the issue or you can send me a private message to check the warranty for you (don't post the SN as it should be kept confidential).
As per opening the cover to investigate , this would not void the warranty as long as no damage during the process as commonly done on customer upgrades similar to this discussion. Issue may either be the power port , systemboard and heatsink and fan needed to be serviced,

When gaming in a window. I can literally see it swapping from plugged in to battery at any % between 0 -100% That when the lags happen.
I disabled the windows battery device in devices menu. It worked for the screen brightness but not the lag. Even on low graphics it does the same. I think this laptop is either faulty or it is a software issue, I dont know.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

A:Laptop keeps switching between plugged in and battery power

Try removing the battery and running it strictly on the ac adapter. If it still dies out, then you know the charger's bad.

I have a new lenovo laptop and i have it always plugged in... just recently i started to worry cause i would notice it wont charge at times when its at 97%. it would say Plugged in, not charging. i have installed all the drivers and utilities here (drivers) and lenovo vantage. in lenovo vantage i found conservative mode already OFF. yet the battery is at 95% at this time and its still not charging. Shouldnt it charge if Conservative mode is turned off?
