My Birthday Build

Q: My Birthday Build

For my birthday, the week after next, I am getting parts for a new gaming build.

Here is the LINK to the wish list page on Newegg.com.

I need some opinions, and some help.

1.) I am stuck between GPUs: the GTX 295 or the HD 4870 X2

2.) I am stuck between CPUs: The Phenom II 920 or 940

3.) I need a good but cheap mobo that's easily upgraded.

4.) Any other parts i can get for less money BUT with the same (equal or better performance)

Check out the poll....

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sorry about the poll... I don't know how to edit it.

3 months ago my grandpa asked me for a list of parts I wanted for a new computer he was going to build me for my birthday. He gave me an $800 budget. This was just a research exercise for me because he had already picked out the parts and bought them. These are the specs:

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.4
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 Home, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 158 Stepping 9
Processor Count: 8
RAM: 16341 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, -1 Mb
Hard Drives: C: 222 GB (192 GB Free); D: 1274 GB (493 GB Free); E: 97 GB (76 GB Free); F: 1171 GB (666 GB Free); G: 1181 GB (214 GB Free);
Motherboard: MSI, Z270 PC MATE (MS-7A72)
Antivirus: Windows Defender, Enabled and Updated

I know he spent way over $800 for this awesome computer. It's liquid cooled, has lcd lights that change colors. It does have an annoying quirk I'd like to know if there's a way to get rid of. In the top right quarter is a bright yellow dot that was from the default skin which I changed but it still remains. I tried to post s screenshot but the spot in question didn't appear in it.

Things are not going well on my birthday. My dog decided redecorate my apartment with the contents of the kitchen trashcan. My car wouldn't start. Now my computer has gone nuts.

Ads keep popping up for gambling as well as a sign in the bottom right hand corner telling me I have critical issues. It's connected with two identical icons I've never seen before that blink. They are red circular frames with diagonal slashes and then they morph into something resembling a green wheelchair.

I've run my Norton Antivirus which says I'm fine. Adaware finds bugs and kills them but the problem continues. Spybot has the same result. Here's my computer info and hijack this log:

Okay....I'm not exactly sure what happened...but I was surfing the web, and the next thing I know my computer is acting up. Internet explorer is running in the background, tea timer is not loading, spybot won't open, when I run my computer in safe mode and run MBAM my computer will freeze, system restore does nothing after I hit next, etc..

I'm at a loss as to what to do. I'm a broke college student, and I need my computer for classes, and this is the last thing I need.

If someone could help me out I would sincerely appreciate it. Thanks a million.

I have a list of 200 contacts. I do not know the birthdays of most of them. A large number of them have the null birthday value, 1/1/1601, in the birthday field as viewed when the individual contact file is opened. The select box is checked to use this as the birtdhay. When I unselect the box and hit OK then reopen the contact, the save is not changed. The box is still checked when the contact is reopened. If I change the date of the birthday, that change is saved. However, if I reopen the contact and uncheck the box and hit OK and close and reopen, the box is recheck and the date is returned to the null value date 1/1/1601. To add to the mystery, if the date is set to the null value then it will not display in the Contact folder Birthday column. I need to have the birtday field deselected and properly saved. Otherwise it creates problems syncing with other devices by either sending a null birthday value to the device when no birthday should be present or by preventing the device from sending to the PC a real birthday value since the PC thinks one already exists.

I have confirmed that the birthdays are not save in any other organizer on the PC, like Windows Calender and the files are not Read Only.

I have attached some print screens for clarity.

A:Contacts birthday can't be removed

I have found a temporary partial solution.

Vista's Contacts folder can export all contacts to a CSV file. This export does not include the Birthday field. Exporting to CSV and then Importing the same CSV produced a list of contacts with all contacts having the Birthday field deselected. Unfortunately this removes any real birthday data as well. Fortunately for me I didn't have many birthdays stored in my phone. After resyncing my phone, this method has at least removed the 94 alerts on my phone for peoples birthdays coming up on the 1st of January.

I installed a new keyboard and mouse the other day I got for my birthday. a Logitech LX710 laser wireless. Works great on my Gateway GT 5056 (2 Gg Dual core 64 AMD) WinXP . However since then the only place I have a problem is my flight simulators. Slow and jerky mouse and action moving 1 frame at a time. Terrible! Went to Logitechs website to find a newer version driver for the mouse then what was on the disk which came with the hardware. Instructed to choose either 32 or 64 bit downloads. Selected 64 and download message said wasn't compatable with my system...only the 32. Installed the newer version and no change to my sims. In all other areas of use the mouse appears great! I don't want to go back to my wired items in which the wires cause all kinds of snagging issues...hate it! Tried the troubleshooter and ask the Nerd. I'm dead in the water here on this.... Can anyone help me?

Ok...I posted this once before with no luck. But my Tech Support Guy birthday greeting this morning has prompted me to try again. I would really appreciate suggestions for this issue.

For a few weeks now, I haven't been able to access any sites on the blogspot.com domain from work. Now I know that I technically shouldn't be reading blogs at work anyway, but I really enjoy it as a break or when I'm having a slow day, and this problem has severly limited my ability to enjoy my usual sites.

Being at work, I have limited control over my computer's settings, but this seems like a surmountable problem, because I can ping the domain without problems from a command prompt. I'm running Windows 2000 Professional with IE6.

I've already tried adding it to my list of trusted sites and clearing my cache as well as flushing my DNS. Incidently, the same problem occurs with the Guardian website (an English newspaper) found at www.guardian.co.uk. The pages seem to be loading but just continue for 2-3 minutes and then bring me to the page not found screen.

Of course it's possible that my access is just being blocked by an administrator, however the Guardian seems like an unlikely news source to restrict when CNN, NY Times, and all other mainstream media and blog sites are perfectly accessible.

Help!!!

A:Can't Get to Blogs (Birthday Request)

Ok, I've figured out that if I use a proxy, I can access the sites in question. The only problem is that proxies seem to keep me off of my web based email service. Also had some trouble posting here with the proxy enabled. Any way this provides some clues for a more convenient fix?

My birthday is coming up next month and i love playing Guild wars on my downstairs PC the only problem is i have limited usage of that computer so i decided id buy a new video card for my upstairs pc.

I like to play MMOs seriously so im not a frugal gamer.

I have a budget of about 50-100 dollars.

And im not sure of what my power level is but theres a switch underneath where you plug in the tower which is switched to 115 so im guessing 115watts?

Im also from the united states.

I was thinkin of getting this card
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8154257
Would it be compatible?

I checked my device manager for the current video card that i have in and it says its in a PCI bus, i was guessing that this is important for you all to know.

A:Looking for a new video card for my birthday

Looks to me like you have an AGP slot according to your 2nd screen shot. Take the side of your case off to make sure, there will be some white slots, and then above them one of slightly larger size that is *probably* brown. If you have that, then its AGP. If you have an AGP slot then your possibilities are a little more broad than if you only have regular PCI.

The card you linked to is PCIe, which is different from regular PCI (so it won't work, don't buy it) which you almost certainly have. Regular PCI is those white slots below the brown AGP.

The 115 you see is 115 Volts, what your wall outlet supplies. The other option is 230, which you don't want to have that flipped to. It is there so the power supply can be used in countries that use 230V.

Well, I got Battlefield 2, a PC game. I installed it fine and everything, yet when I go to play it, the Battlefield 2 screen comes up and then the game does nothing. It just sits there. Sometimes I can move the curser, sometimes I can't, but everything becomes unresponsive and I end up having to restart my PC manually. Not by task manager, but by literally hitting the power button on my PC. I tried reinstalling the game and still nothing. Well, I decided to give it one more try, and I was just going to return the game.

THIS is where the problem is.

Well, the game froze at the screen again, so I had nothing to do but restart my PC. Well, it went through the traditional detecting Harddrive, CD/DVD Rom and Ram and then...... NOTHING. Instead of the "Windows XP Professional" screen to come up and it showing Windows loading, the screen is just blank and NOTHING happens. What the hell is going on?

Well, so far my Birthday isn't too much of a good day. First my game doesn't work, and now my PC is messing up. I've tried changing what boots first, and have tried checking my IDE cables and restarting my Ram but nothing..

Any idea of what I can do?

Thanks.

EDIT: ALso, i've tried starting in safe mode and last good configuration and and all that because it seems like that doesn't work either.

RACHEL ROSS
TORONTO STAR

I remember my first time.

A few boys from the University of Toronto took me to one of the computer labs. We did it there.

It was electric. It changed my life.

Sure, I'd used the Internet before. But never like that.

Surfing the Internet with the Mosaic browser was like searching for the right dress with a personal shopper, instead of perusing the mall on your own. Suddenly, it was so much easier to find what I wanted.

There wasn't much of an Internet to browse back then. In the early nineties, the World Wide Web was made up of an only a couple hundred Web servers. But Mosaic made the Internet so easy to use, it was clear that this was just the start of something big.

This week marks the tenth anniversary of Mosaic 1.0: an Internet browser that changed the course of computing history by making the online world truly accessible. You may not have used Mosaic, but you've probably used a browser based on the software.

Despite its impact, Mosaic's beginnings were humble. Mosaic started out as a project by a couple of students at the University of Illinois National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). Marc Andreessen and Eric Bina wanted to write software that could easily navigate the linked information system invented by Tim Berners-Lee. He originally called his linked-documents scheme Mesh, but later gave decided on the more grandiose title of the World Wide Web.

Hi there,

Over the last few weeks I've noticed that Birthdays (although displayed in my Calender) are no longer coming up on my reminders.

Is there anywhere on Outlook that controls "all birthdays" where I may be able to check to see if reminders have been turned off?

Also, is there a way I can make ALL Birthday's Purple as they are white at the mo.

Thanks

Gavin

A:Outlook 2003 - Birthday Reminders

Hi gavininskip

Open one of the Birthday Events and select Open the Series.
On the right there should be a label field, my Birthday label is purple.
At the bottom is the Categories field where you can select Birthday, as well.

After Saving your changes, you should be able to view the Birthday Events by Category using:
View > Arrange by > Current View > Events or > By Category
If the Birthday event is showing a check mark in the Reminder field, but not reminding you, you may need to reset the reminders using a command switch to start Outlook

Outlook Calendar and Task reminders do not appear as expected

Using Outlook Command lines
Let us know if that works for you or not.

Formerly known as Advanced WindowsCare, the professional edition of IObit?s Advanced SystemCare is currently free to download. The press release sent by the company informs that the giveaway period should start May 17 and last for 72 hours, until May 19. However, it seems like the gates for the free download of the application have already been opened as, at present time, you can grab an account name and a license code for free to register the trial version of the program.

Assuming that the giveaway period in the press release will be respected (which is most likely), IObit actually resizes the giveaway window to at least 360 hours which translate into a total of 5 days instead of the announced 3. The offer is not part of a regular marketing strategy designed to increase the number of Advanced SystemCare PRO?s active users, but it also marks the fifth birthday for IObit. Giving a $29.95 piece of software for free represents the company?s way of saying ?Thank you!? to Internet users for spreading the word and recommending IObit, thus contributing to their popularity and success, says President of IObit, Hugo Dong.

I want something that will allow me to invite lots of people to sign, and then I can invite the person the ecard is for. Whatever the site, I want to allow people to sign it without having to create an account. The only place I found was www.groupcard.com, however that gives me a 500 server error when I attempt to create it, and everyone else on the net simply is for sending a single card at that time to the person in question... where I want to invite people to sign, and then give the link at the person's birthday to read what everyone wrote. One would think they would have millions of these sites :/

I plan to get a hard drive and 2 RAM chips (my computer has 4 slots with "banks of 2"). I'll have $500 to get this with, but only want to spend $400.

I've already made picks, but I want to run my decision by you guys for any "snags." Let me know if you need some diagnostic information of my computer besides what I'm about to give you now.

-I don't know how much GB of storage space my computer can handle. The drive I plan to get is 320 GB in size. I won't need that much, but it's a freaking sale and the cheapskate in me has roared up. Also, it's Western Digital like the drive already in my computer. The only downside is that it comes with no SATA Cables or screws. Anyway, I'm on Windows XP Home Edition with SP2. If there are limits or something, please let me know. Also, do you think it's a good idea to have the 320 GB drive hooked up as a slave to the 40 GB drive I have right now? I wanted to make it the master, but I would jam so much stuff on it, I wouldn't have anything to back it up with.

-My comp takes 240-pin RAM in "banks of 2" as mentioned earlier. It can handle 4 GB. The 2 chips I'm getting are 1 GB in size and, I think, run at a faster speed than my current RAM (Current- DDR2-400 DDR2 SDRAM. Proposed- DDR2-533 DDR2 SDRAM). I was thinking of replacing my current RAM chips with the bigger ones, since I'm assuming they can't co-exist with those different speeds. If I'... Read more

You shouldn't lose any programs you have access to when you boot XP-Pro, but anything you have under XP-Home will be history when you delete that installation.

A:What are the risks when you post your birthday on the Internet?

Other than it's one piece to the puzzle of your identity, which can be stolen. There isn't much risk in and of itself posting your birthdate. It just gives information away for free however. Why make it easier for 'bad guys' to collect information?

Actually it's 500, but Iíll only be using 400.

Situation
Iíll have $500 dollars to spend for my birthday. I want to spend 400 on computer and home-entertainment stuff. With my low needs, 400 might go a decent way. I came here because I really didnít want to waste the money.

Hereís what I know for sure I want:
A DVD player for $39
A new VCR for the same price.
Another hard drive with at least 80 GB on it.
Maybe some RAM. I have only 502 MB right now. For some reason, AIDA 32 can't tell me what type of RAM slots I use. Hmm.

Guess what? I can now purchase things online. My pre-paid Mastercard came in. Itís a debit card you can recharge with cash. With that news, Iím open to your newegg.com or whatever-online-store suggestions. Thatís the main reason I made this thread instead of looking around myself. This online deal adds a new dimension. My cousin (we bought the computer through him) might even get a few rings over this. I really donít want to waste this money.

I guess some questions Iíd like to ask for help with this are: Know that I have AIDA32.
-How can I find out how much HD space my computer can take?
-Iím looking for an internal hard drive, but would there be benefits to an external/portable one besides backing up stuff? I donít think I have anything to hide.
-Would it be wise to hook up an 80 GB drive as a slave to a 40 GB master? I would transfer all the data and whatnot, but I donít know how and donít want to risk anything.
Thatís it for no... Read more

In October 2001, Windows XP was released to the world.
It allowed you to boot from its disc and install it without any complicated DOS commands or the need for a startup floppy disk - which was needed with Windows 95 and 98 and ME.
All support for it ended about 2-1/2 years ago, but it has remained a popular operating system and has more users than Windows 8.1.
I no longer use it, but I feel it deserves some respect for its longevity and popularity.
Happy 15th birthday, Windows XP!

I love to send my friends birthday wishes each year, but always send them via email. While I do seem to remember to send the messages the day before, I seem to forget the day I should send it. I have used my calendar to help remember and also did a web search to see if there were other solutions. I came across a site called EternityMessage.com that let's you write message and even add pictures and then schedule that message to be sent up to 1 year in the future for FREE -- that answers my question - yeah! Unfortunately there's no recurring feature, but that's ok, since I want to customize the message each year anyway.

A:Send birthday wishes in future date.

You can use google calender to send you a reminder email in advance of any special day/event.You can have that done on a reoccurring basis years in the future. You can do it for Dr.'s appointments, birthdays, events, etc.
You can specify when to receive the reminder email.
I use it for many things.
Check it out,it may fill your need.
