Q: HP Pavilion x2 Detachable Pen Issue (Skipping, Glitchy, Not ...

I recently bought a HP x2 12-b017ca. Laptop works great and didn't have any issues until now. I ordered a HP Active Pen from HP which listed my computer as compatible. Once I received it, tried it, didn't work. So after some troubleshooting I called HP Support. After spending 2+ hours of getting transfered alot and disconnected I eventually got a person that told me it wasn't compatible but it clearly states on the HP website it is. Therefore he told me to call another number to confirm if it was compatible. During my time on hold? I was able to get the pen to work however it was very glitchy, skipping and sometimes it wouldn't recognize it at all. I tried calibrating the pen, checked for updates, etc. with no success. So call the number and they stated it was compatable and it sounded like this was a more common problem with this pen so I returned it. I purchased a Dell Active pen, it works better than the HP but not great. Still glitchy and skipping. I'm not sure if there is something broken the laptop or just a poor design/bug which affects all units. The touch screen works great with no issues at all, even works flawlessly with my Adonit Jot Pro pen. Is there anything I can do my self (lose connection, update, etc.)? I prefer not to spend 2+ hours with phone support and if I have to send in I'm out a laptop for a month or more.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an HP Paviion x2 detachable device with two ports - USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 type C. The charger is connected to the last port. A. My question is, due to the lack of more ports, is it possible to connect a USB 3.0 type C hub to the USB 3.0 port (instead of the charger)?B. If yes, will it be still possible to charge the computer via the hub?  C. Assuming that it is a "Yes" for question A, which hubs are recommended? Best Regards,Tal Barak.

Last night turned on to find it saying it was installing updates. Since then when turned on freezes but won't let me open or fix anything. Keep having to turn it off and on. No joy. Sometimes opens a blue screen. Message reads 'windows hasn't loaded correctly'. Option to reset won't work as says I need additional free space on the drive but can't open drive to do so. Start up repair can't diagnose a problem. Won't let me perform a system restore and won't let me create a restore point. Don't have a disc to use. Cannot open files or access internet on desktop. Completely stuck. Please help.

My device is 3 months old and I recently updated the BIOS through the HP assistant and am now receiving an error message close to 'CMOS checksum value is invalid. System will reboot with default values. Please check BIOS to see if any changes have occured (as close as I can remember)' System then boots OK. I am wondering what is causing this. Is the battery already dying? This has now happened three times in a week and also the clock is reseting itself to 05:00 everytime.

I have just bought this lkaptop and the hardware is nice, but I do not want to run Windows. Simple, I thought, as it's a PC, I'll just install Ubuntu. Well, the boot from USB is UEFI and that is a bit of a pain to set up, and I can't get it to work. The Ubuntu 14 install disk I burnt is an EFI boot CD and it simply fails to boot. Using the F9 option I get aBoot device failed message in white text on a blue screen. When I try to boot through the boot menus I get a missing file at \ubuntu\winboot\. I have just created a Windows recovery disk and that seems to boot fine. It looks like the BIOS/UEFI is set up to only allow Windows to boot. I've bought a USB DVD drive and failed to boot from that, also two memory sticks and a HDD. So, questions, before I put the laptop in the bin: 1. Has anyone else got Linux onto this device and if so what image and procedure did you use to get the install to work? 2 Is there a way to get legacy mode booting set up in the BIOS (The BIOS mentions legacy support in the screens but its not there).  Andrew

It seems that the hp x2 has a 32 bit uefi. So you'll need a 32bit uefi boot loader. Most distros I've seen just ship the 64 bit bootloader. There's a guy at debian who is trying to support this kind of thing - He's working on a netinst image for deb8. The current image he's published so far boots, but I can't get networking to work. Here's his blog (other good stuff there):http://blog.einval.com/debian/CDs Here's the deb image:http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/efi-development/jessie-upload3.Hth /markus

Hi this is my first post. Had this 2 in one for about a week, replacing a 4 year old acer aspire one netbook D270 which had upgraded SSD and over 8 hr battery life. I dropped it and cracked the screen but it was a great little device I used all the time. There is a lot to like with this unit, but a few things are a little fustrating. 1) Lost thunderbird and opera from taskbar for no apparent reason. I pin something I expect it to stay.2) I keep on deleting the HP help from taskbar as it keeps on showing a massive ? on the task bar but no new info, but afrer reboot its back showing help but nothing new. I dont want it.3) Inconsistent when I undock screen, I loose all input on the touch screen? Dock it back all is fine. This cant be right.4) Open some webpages no touch screen?.5)  I Keep on loosing SD card, even during playing music, suddenly stops and no SD. Pop it out and it makes unmounts noise, pop it back in all is fine for a short time like 2 songs then stops again saying file can not be found. Replaced the SD card and same issues. Are these known issues or something with my device. Jas

I bought this at the end of August, as something to use when I was away from home. Took it away in Sept, all worked fine, til one day I tried to turn it on and it wouldn't. Eventually got it to work by holding down the power key. Now it's intermittent: sometimes works fine, sometimes takes repeated attempts, sometimes I have to hold it down and get the CMOS message. Any ideas how to fix this?

I purchased my laptop on 11/6/15 from Best Buy. When it is plugged in, it works fine but the battery was not charging. Unfortunately for me, it is now 1 1/2 months out of warranty. I brought it into Best Buy to have the battery replaced and it was sent to their servicing center. I just received a call from them telling me that my issue is Not my battery but with something on the motherboard that controls how the battery charges and the entire board needs to be replaced and it is going to cost me just as much to replace it as I paid for my laptop. This is absolutely obsurd!! The laptop is only 13 months old and has never been mishandled. When making the decision to buy a new laptop, I chose HP because I had such good luck with my old one that was 10 years old. Has HP quality gone downhill? And on top of it all, when I went to submit a question about this to HP support, it comes up with my laptop being out of warranty since August 2016 which less than a 1 year warranty. Now Im left with the decision to repair my 13 month old laptop and still have no protection if something else breaks or buy a new one with protection for the same price.

Hi there @bfeliciano86,  Before I provide troubleshooting documentation, I would like to take a minute to welcome you to the HP Support Community, where you can ask questions, find solutions and get help from others! I will do my absolute best to help you resolve the issue you are having with the black screen on your HP Pavilion x2 Notebook PC.  Note: please make sure that the AC adapter cable is not plugged into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source. It should be directly into a wall outlet. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. As silly as it sounds, did you happen to try removing dust from the cooling areas in a notebook?Have you connected the Notebook to an external monitor or TV? If you remove the notebook battery, plug the AC power cable back into the notebook, then turn it on, does it power the Notebook? Do you have any beep codes or blinking LED lights? Have you done a BIOS reset?Have you tried performing a hard reset?Have you tried to see if you can test for hardware failures? If the computer is on, do you hear the fan running? If so, but the display remains blank, please see Computer Starts but Screen Remains Blank. If you require further assistance, I would be more than happy to help! Please just re-post with the information required from above. Pleas... Read more

My pavilion is not respoinding properly. 1 month ago, the laptop/tablet locked after a hardware issue and needed a bitlocker key to open it. After some time finding it and a few problems from microsoft, the laptop was in working order as of yesterday. However, the audio was missing (I assume that's why the laptop locked itself?? I'm not a large techy person!). As I could not restore the audio, I decided to do a reset with files still intact. This got to 44% and then came up with a response along the lines of; "Cannot reset due to an issue. Please try again later." This led me back to two options; revert back and load windows 10 or to retry. I retried a few more times with the same error message and two options. I'd decided after that not working, I'd try and revert back and reload windows 10. After this, the only thing my laptop now does is load the HP symbol, move to a black screen and repeat. I've tried hard resets and attempting to diagnose the problem with F2, yet this did not help at all as all 'passed' bar the audio which could not be detected. Any help would be great! Thanks.

The next day, it started up just fine and I was able to sign on and use the machine, but later in the day the same thing happened - able to sign on but got a black screen. Today, I have tried numerous times and was able to actually get a screen once and tried to troubleshoot on the HP website and my browser shut down and I have not been able use it since - still able to sign on but always get a black screen. Since the failed Win 10 update, the computer is now unusable. Product Number is N3W80EQ#ABEBIOS version is F.04 (I downloaded BIOS version F.05 from the HP website but was unable to get a FreeDOS bootable disk to be recognised) I'm fairly sure there is a problem with the BIOS and UEFI boot. Hi, I am having issues with my micro SD card vanishing.  Purchased end of May and spend so many hours trying everything thinking it was me. I have never had any issues with my SD cards in either HTC one phone or a Acer aspire one, which I broke its screen in May reason for the purchase. My acer I pimped it with 250gb SSD and 2 GB and had no real issues, had enough space for most of my 36GB music and had a external USB HD for films and more music.  Now I am getting so fustrated trying to play a few albums form SD. Had this laptop for about 4 months, only use it for writing using Word, we don't store photos, music etc.  All we have are word documents and the only things we installed are Bitdefender and Office. This laptop has a 30gb hard drive as standard but we bought the one from HP that also has an additional 1TB drive.  Despite telling the system to save and install all things to the larger drive, the smaller one is constantly getting full and not letting us do anything.  When we go in to storage and try to delete all the temp files (about 3gb) it just sits there and doesn't delete anything. Anyone else had this issue?  Or does anyone know how to free up the smaller drive and get it to use the bigger one?  Like I said before, everything is set up in the system options to save to the large drive.  Am I missing something?

Hello everyone, New to forums here but have been a regular reader ? My Pavilion X2 12-b020nr detachable laptop has been having a battery drain issue while shutdown over the past few months, and I've finally isolated it to the detachable dock. It'll usually drain 3-4%/day while shutdown and keyboard dock attached. The battery does not drain (across 24h) while shutdown/detached or while the charger is plugged in. I'd like to find out if anyone knows how to disable power to the dock while shutdown.I promise that I am shutting down the computer and not hibernating, sleeping, etc. Relevant details:Windows 10 64-bitBIOS F-16 (and unable to find any options in BIOS)Fast boot IS disabledHP Battery utility and diagnostics shows normal battery (other diagnostics normal as well) Any thoughts? I've probed around the Device Manager and BIOS, but to no avail.

Yesterday while using the Laptop Pavillion X2 10, my physical keyboard stopped working, i restarted it and it worked for a while and stopped working. I read many suggestions tried following but nothing worked. Point to Note: ELAN Keyboard/touch pad Driver is not there anymore, No matter how many times I try ti install it, installatioin failed. - Tried installing ELAN Driver through HP Tool, but during the installation it gives it gives Error   "Error Executing Specific Program"     C:\SWSetup\SP74522\X64\Setup.exe - Updated the BIOS- Reinstalled Windows 10- Drained out the batterty and Reinstalled.- cleaned up the contacts between Screen and the Keyboard- tried F10, F2 diagnostic tools - Is the Detachable ketboard has its own Battery? could it be dead, of it works through the display?- But since I can't install the driver, it looks like its related to the driver? What should I Do, Please Help.

Hi,

I just bought this laptop new about a month ago. It has a Core 2 Duo T5800 processor in it w/4GB RAM and Windows Vista Ultimate. When I type fast on the laptop, the cursor skips and either:

1. Jumps to a field above the one I am typing in
2. Jumps to the left of the field I am typing in and replaces text
3. Jumps up several lines and starts somewhere random

Does anyone have any idea what causes this annoying error or what can be done about it?

Thanks in advance!

Good afternoon,

I recently needed to reinstall Win -7 Pro x64. I unplugged all my other drives (5 all total) and installed Win-7 with the new HDD connected to the SATA0 port of my MB.

Then post install, I moved the HDD with Win-7 on it to the SATA4 port and then plugged in my other client disks that I support, in Sata3 - 0.

I use my "F12" key to boot from one to the other.

Since I have done this, (and did a fresh install of everything - NO cloning) Skyrim operates glitchy, with frequent NVIdia driver crashes and recoveries while in game. And it is not exclusive to Steam and Skyrim. Windows itself is glitchy, with spurts of speed, followed by what appears to be a "dead" desktop for about 2-3 seconds, followed by everything coming back to life...

The graphical subsystem only hangs/restarts under Skyrim and not under normal system load such as (CAD/CAM). But the glitchiness I'm describing happens regardless of what I am doing in Windows.

When Win-7 was connected to SATA0, I had no such issues.

I am going to assume that installing to this HDD attached to SATA0, then changing the cables to SATA4 has caused Windows to become unhappy.

I have done some tests. As I have good backups, I reversed the role of the HDD's, and the problem follows Windows, not the HDD. The problem seems to be specific to installing while any HDD is connected to SATA0, then post install and post updates, moving the HDD to SATA4 port.

No Overclocking of anything in my MB settings.... Read more

A:Changing Sata port for the Win-7 HDD glitchy issue

How could you possibly install the MB and Chipset drivers before the install ? And why ?

Put the new hard drive on sata port #1, do the install and leave it on port 1.

Hey guys, I'm not sure if I'm even in the right section, but I just joined this site in an effort to get some assistance with fixing this issue:

The problem: Any time I start an application that requires a moderate amount of processing, the whole computer skips. By skips, I mean the audio glitches and makes an annoying sound, the video freezes for a fraction of a second before catching up, etc. I was working on a video editing project last night, for instance, and this problem got really bad then. Now it happens whenever I try to play music through iTunes, or even a video online. So far, I have tried updating video card drivers, checking for updated chipset drivers, checking for possible overheating - nothing has helped.

The Computer: I just bought the base components for this computer and received them in the mail less than a week ago. I put it together one night last week, and I noticed this issue as soon as I imported my music and got some working speakers attached. (It's much more noticeable with audio)

These are my specs, if you need any more info, let me know.

I bought an XPS 13 a few days back. The touchpad has been acting strangely. It skips a lot and registers random clicks. The left edge of the touchpad is never working properly. The rest of the touchpad does work properly sometimes.
Is there anyone else who's facing this issue? Any idea as to how I can resolve it?

I'm not sure exactly where to post this but, when I run a game my computer will randomly (somewhat frequently) will get stuck (I'd say frozen but everything keeps going, I just can't do anything else and my mouse lags/skips) and my computer beeps like when you push too many buttons at the same time and hold them down.

I tried system restore, cleaning my computer with CCleaner, scanned my computer with kaspersky and tweaked my graphics card and even installed some program that tells me the temperature of my computer/fan and everything is normal but its not fixing this problem..

I sorta ran out of solutions I guess and I found this site while googling for stuff so I decided to post here to see if you guys could help me out.

If you need me to post any system information etc. just tell me and I will.

Edit: Its never done this before and it only started doing it today and I am clueless as to what I did to cause it or what is causing it.

A:Need help with glitching/skipping issue

I think I just noticed that it doesn't only do it in the game, I notice my computer doing it randomly when Im not running a game either.. The computer pauses for a second like it does in the game but it doesn't do all the beeping sounds (because I'm not pushing a bunch of buttons like I do while playing a game) I don't know what to do to make my computer stop doing this, help please =\

So I'm getting a weird issue where the computer is skipping, like a CD, or like a laggy game, but it does it in windows, and it causes really weird sound noises, not sure what the issue is... thinking maybe the video card is the issue but I'm not 100%. Anyone have any ideas as to what it could?

I've experiences a problem for about the past four days in which my computer will skip and pause for moments at a time. This includes audio, video, even scrolling through pages or moving my cursor around the screen. As an example the cursor will stop and then appear in another spot as opposed to moving there in a smooth motion. I haven't done anything new with the computer other than add a second monitor, however disconnecting this monitor has not helped at all. I've tried watching a video and having task manager's CPU usage history graph running at the same time, each time the computer skips CPU usage increases significantly for a moment, quickly going from 10% or lower to 30-40%. I've also notices a faint whirring or scratching noise when this happens.Specs:Vista Home Premium 32 bit2.40 GHz Duo Core Intel processor640 mb 8800 GTS video card2 GB Corsair RAM320 GB hard drive (70% full)Here is my Hijackthis log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 3:25:02 AM, on 1/1/2010Platform: Windows Vista SP1 (WinNT 6.00.1905)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6001.18349)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Windows\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Internet Security 2009\avp.exeC:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exeC:\Windows\system32\wuauclt.exeC:\Windows\system32\taskeng.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exeC:\Program Files\... Hi
After a recent rebuild, I've been having trouble with sound playback - it'll very often skip and jitter, and it's veveveveverrrrry annoying
It's a problem I seem to recall having had before and fixed by installing the VIA 4 in 1 drivers, but this time it doesn't seem to want to bite. Any clues?
System is:
Win2k Pro
Duron 1ghz (don't laugh, I'm getting round to it)
Abit KG7-RAID
1gb RAM
Creative SBLive Platinum (latest drivers installed)
OEM GF-FX5700LE (256mb, 71.84 drivers installed)
...and a whole bunch of other crap that's probably irrelevant.

I've tried any number of combinations of drivers, and I'm just getting nowhere. Any clues or starting points gratefully appreciated.

Hi,

I appear to be having trouble with my firefox browser.

My operating system is Windows 8.1. I have an Acer Aspire V3-772G which I bought some 18 months ago.

System details:

Processor: Intel® Core i7-4202MQ 2.2GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
Installed Memory (RAM) 16.00 GB DDR3 L Memory
System  type: 64-bit Operating, x64- based processor

A few days ago my firefox browser, which for no apparent reason at all, just seemed to slow to a stupendously very slow loading of pages. I had recently just been working on an issue in which I posted a thread regarding whether there was a possible virus/malware after google chrome terminated with the following message from Hitman Pro Alert:

Attack Intercepted
'Google Chrome 49' has been terminated to prevent execution of malicious code. Please check your computer for malware and software updates

As it happened, it appeared to be because of a conflict somewhere in the Google Chrome, Trusteer Rapport and Hitman Pro Alert combination, and so the only way was to change the settings on Hitman Pro Alert as advised and shown in my thread:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/611273/possible-virus-or-malaware/

However, there was no malware or virus detected by my own Avast or Malwareware bytes tools, and the tools used as instructed in the thread also showed my system to have none. Also, google chrome works fine, and my computer has not slowed in any way. My fir... Read more
