Downgrading window8 to windows7 without Clean Install

Q: Downgrading window8 to windows7 without Clean Install

Dear Tech guyz,
I've got this Dell laptop with Windows8 pre-installed.
I don't like this windows8 would therefore want to downgrade to windows7 without having to run clean install.

Is there a way out?

Preferred Solution: Downgrading window8 to windows7 without Clean Install

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Clean Install of Windows7 - cannot install required files

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

How are you going about installing Windows? Vis USB, CD, or a recovery partition?

Where did you get the copy of Windows?

How far into the installation does it get?

Hey there.  I have a XPS 420, purchased in 2008, Windows 7.  The machine runs slowly, browser hangs up a lot, Shockwave crashes, lots of malware.   I've tried to re image the computer - no change.

Now i'm considering completely wiping everything out and starting over with a Clean Install of Windows 7.  Is there a document that would take me through all necessary steps?

A:I would like to do a total clean re install of windows7

If the system has never been reloaded, power on, press F8 a few times, and choose "Repair" and then "Recover" from the menu that appears. This will reload the factory image on the system.
Once that's done,  you will likely want to to apply the Windows 7 post-SP1 rollup, or you'll be installing a few hundred updates through Windows update:
It might also be a good time to consider upgrading to Windows 10 while the offer of a free upgrade is still in place.
If this is what you mean by "reimage" -- you've already done it and the system is still slow -- run an extended hard drive diagnostic on the system (f12 at powerup).  You may find there is something wrong with the hard drive - which, if original, is already well beyond its expected lifespan.

Hey all,

I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 x64, the most current 16385 Build. Set-up was perfectly smooth, detected a lot of my drivers, etc.

I go to install Firefox, so I download it, and try to install but nothing happens. I tried to download it again, save the .exe, click on it, and nothing happens.

I check my task manager and I see "Firefox 3.5.1 Beta Setup.exe *32" and then the actual "setup.exe *32" process running, but they do absolutely nothing. None of these installs work (I've tried Firefox, foobar2000, you name it)

This is obviously an absolute useability killer right now. Everyone I know who is running x64 has never ran into this problem, and I'm wondering if you all could give your advice here.

A:Clean Windows7 x64 Install not running ANY 32-bit apps

Actually, here's an update:

It appears to be something with the HsMgr.exe *32 process. The computer is starting up with it. If I end the process, all the 32-bit processes all work. I took it out of startup w/ msconfig and now everything works!

However, could someone maybe enlighten me on what exactly that process is and if it is necessary for any Windows 7 functions?

I did a re-install of Windows 7 on my HP Dv6t-3000 based on a friend's recommendation to alleviate my problems with SafeSear.ch. This course of action was decided after my recovery disks would not load (hp factory-made disks in perfect condition).

My laptop is now functional again with a few problems. The first problem I want to fucus on is the mute, orange, light. It now stays lit all the time, but does turn the sound on and off. (Curiously, volume adjustment levels are no longer screen visible; I have to hover over the speaker icon to determine volume level now.) Before I ran the new windows 7... I did one thing good; I ran Belarc Advisor and saved the file. I ran it again after the new W7 install and found that my ATI Mobility Radeon HD5470 graphics card (device?) is not present now. When I go over to HP's site, I can find no driver for this card (I'm making the assumption that this has something to do with the mute light issue.). I've run other web searches looking for this driver and haven't found it.

My question is, can I go into my recovery disks and find this driver?
Please keep your responses simple; I'm not a knowledgeable person in this area. I also need to divulge that I had to tear down this laptop to the frame to repair/re-build the screen hinge. That was prior to new W7 install and every functioned after it was reconstructed.

A:Need help w Radeon HD5470 after clean windows7 install

That laptop has both an Intel HD series video card and the Radeon, needs switched over to the Radeon to see it and install a driver.

Called switchable video (not automatic), but couldn't find details on how it's actually done.

Just a basic user here so thought I would ask somewhere on the internet before attempting. Have windows7 installed on drive C:, and have win7 and winxp installed on two other partitions (E: & F: ) on the same hard drive.

Last year I used EasyBCD so that 7 and XP could dual boot as options.

Now the main partition drive C: has way too much crap on it, want to just reinstall windows 7 all over again but leave everything else alone. Will reinstalling windows 7 to drive C: affect the whole drive, i.e. Master Boot Record, special boot loader or anything like that -- do I risk damaging other partitions in any way or any precautions I should take / be aware of?

A:OK to do clean re-install windows7 drive C:? Affect other partitions?

Hello and welcome extra mate I am NO expert but if I understand you correctly you have 7 installed ?twice? and will end up with three installs of 7 plus the XP if you go ahead.

I stand to be corrected but I think you can install again on the same drive it will keep the "old" Windows there too.

Any chance of a screen shot of the Disk Management screen? and some system specifications would be real good too.

Ok guyshere is my problem. I am building a budgetpc. I bought new in box an AMD X3 450 and a asus m4a78lt-mle mobo, and 4gb of DDR3 1333mhz memory Kingston. First off out of the box the processorposts as a amd x4 b50. Not sure if they packaged the wrong one or the mobo is reading wrong. I dont want to pull the cpu fan back off tok read the cpu. I did a clean install of win7 ultimate. After install finished i went to install drivers, well the mobo drivers cd was not in the mobobox so i planned on installing usb wireless nic and downloading drivers. This is where the problem starts. When i click on the exe install file i get ,a cmd box popup that says program to big to fit into memory. So i cant install any drivers, i downloaded alla the mobo drivers from asus on a thumb drive and copied over to the hard drive. Tried to run those files and i get the same error message. So i reinstalled win7 this time the 64bit version and this time i still get the same error but on other exe files i get a message sayinng that they are not 64 bit files. Even though i downloaded the 64bit version. So im not sure what is up. All parts were new in box. Any help is very appreciated.

Last night i installed a new Solid state drive and was pleased, until i shut down the shut down time was horrible. Is this due to something happening with my secondary HDD drive? I did some tweaks to the SSD such as superfetch, paging files, drive indexing, disabled pagefile and prefetch and write catch. I also disabled ClearPageFileAtShutdown and LargeSystemCache. I did not format my old drive as i wanted to just save the OS in case of a crash. Does this have anything to do with my shutdown? is there anything i can do to solve this or should i use registry to change my shutdown times? maybe even just format the second drive? I am stumped and would really appreciate any information that can be given and thanks to all you techies and brilliant individuals ahead of time!

A:Installed new SSD clean install of windows7 and now experiencing slow

What make and model SSD?

Why did you do all that tweaking?

I'd have let Windows tweak in whatever way it wants during the install and otherwise leave it alone other than checking alignment after the install.

I bought a new tower computer preinstalled with Windows10 to replace one with Windows 7 that is unfixable. I have two other laptops, one vista, one windows xp. I don't want to incur any problems with incompatibility issues. What do I have to do with old computer re windows 7 to then install that windows 7 on the new computer? Can this even be done? If it can, how do I set up a new partition? These are a few of the questions I have.

A:Downgrading from Windows10 to Windows7

Having a little trouble understanding exactly what you want to do. Do you want to install Windows 7 on the new computer and use the Product Key that is/was on the defunct computer? If so ...

You can do that if the Windows 7 is Retail. Most times it turns out to be OEM--either preinstalled on a PC from somebody like Acer, Dell, HP, etc., or else OEM System Builder's preinstalled on a custom build. OEM versions cannot be transferred to another computer.

Of course, before proceeding you want to check to make sure that Windows 7 drivers are provided for your new PC.

this could be somewhat complicated and should be either in driver section, or installation section or could be on both windows 7 and 8 forum.

here goes.. recently im into SSDs and usb 3.0 so i got myself a usb 3.0 flash drive, made it bootable with window 7 files on it and then install window 7 from flashdrive to my ssd which takes about 3 mins, very fast.

since window 7 natively does not support usb 3.0, i had to install usb3 drivers during installation screen which is a hassle because i have 4 laptops, which all have usb 3.0 ports, but each laptop uses different usb 3.0 drivers and thats where my problem is.

i could slipstream usb 3 driver into win7 install disc, then copy the disc files onto my flashdrive but then i would need 4 seperate flashdrives, or 4 times amount of files. then i thought about windows 8 which ive tried, it automatically detects usb 3.0 during installation screen just fine and of course theres no way it would know what drivers i am using, so obviously microsoft has a *general* usb3.0 driver they use themselves for windows 8.

if i can find that usb 3.0 drivers for windows 8, i should be able to slipstream into the window7 install cd, then of course copy it onto my flashdrive so i no longer have to install different usb 3.0 drivers everytime, correct?

plz help me out.. lol

A:slip stream MS window8 usb 3.0 driver into window 7 install CD

Chances are Win8 has most of the USB 3.0 drivers so that yours is able to be installed. Absent this I would simply get the driver from optional Windows Updates which is how the installer drivers are updated and missing drivers supplied shortly after Win7 install.

Short of that keep the USB 3. driver on stick to install in Device Manager.

If you want to try to slipstream the Win8 USB 3 driver into your 7 installer using 7Lite to see if it will work, then that might be a fun project but hardly necessary.

I have an HP Compaq dx2000mt desktop that has windows7 32bit enterprise installed on it. I tried to install windows7 home 32bit to replace the enterprise OS. As I was installing it stated the old OS would be marked, XXX.old and it went forward, then came to a point where there were booting errors. and it stopped installing. Now I am left with a half install, and a full OS the boot section now in its own drive named disk 0 system reserved.
I partioned the C drive and allocated 20gb and tried to install there. I received the same errors seems that my boot.ini is stuck in the system reserved and I cant figure out how to incorporate disk 0 over to disk C, so that my boot is in the same disk drive.
I have really messed this one up. I have installed an operating system before and never had so much trouble.
Any advice would be helpful.
And please if you have an answer, something for me to do, it needs to be A.B.C.'d out step by step as Im not an expert. But I guess I already proved that...
Thank you in advance.

Some searches informed me that doing a clean install could be helpful and is possible, however I don't know how to do that or if it's legal. I just want my computer performance to run smoothly and without issue.

I have removed all of my personal files from my computer that I wish to keep so I can blow it away and start fresh if needed.

I recently have posted aboutan issue with recovering from a partition whichwent fine.

So I went through to do a clean re-install of windows 7 with a boot USB to get rid of factory bloatware and when I do. it gets to the option to write to a partition it sayscan't write to a GPT partition. Which is not really a big issue as plenty of tuts to.change to MBR which I have read.

But also if it dont make it to the option to write to a partition I get an error where windows says cannot find the device drivers installation. I have spent a day trying to find a way to get drivers on there. And I dont want to convert to MBR and still get the same driver error.

I have wrote the bo0t USB using different programs and still get either of those errors.

Hey I have Windows 7 and it's not working properly with my Mobile Broadband, so I need to downgrade to Vista.

When I installed 7 it gave me a random partition that wasn't there before, it's about 100mb in size and has nothing on it. It's F:/

When I put my Vista disk in it says it cant be installed because F is too small, even tho I want it on C.

I can't boot from the Vista install disk because I'm using an external DVD drive (internal one is broke) and it isn't bootable from with my BIOS.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks

No, not during installation. The Windows 7 DVD normally has all drivers on it. When you have completed the install, it will search the internet for drivers and DL if needed. You should be OK.

Due to some corruptions in files system that can't be repair. I decide to do a clean install of vista from recovery partition preinstalled in D drive.

My question is does the clean install also clean out any hidden/unactive virus/rootkit if i format the laptop to its factory condition?

I have tried various AV software on this old laptop but the results come out clean but I still suspect there're some remain hidden as the system is slowly corrupted.

A:Clean install vista from recovery partition in D drive also clean virus?

The answer is yes it will, if you do a destructive install (Format "C") & it has not infected any other drives.

So, what drives do you have on your system? "C" (System) & "D" (Recovery) plus DVD/CD drives.

Do you have anything else? USB plug in hard drives or USB memory sticks etc. etc.

Hi BC,
Couple months ago I spent some time in your malware forums trying to resolve issues with a constantly running Windows 7 media center which I noticed was running - not my - porn and bitcoins through. The issue progressed, solutions did not, files got locked, online access became scarce, and as I couldnt keep in timely contact with your well-intentioned helpers here, my thread was closed. Hi Guys
BACKGROUND: Im relatively experienced technical windows guy but I wanted some top tips please rebuilding my XPS17 (L702X tag D6F23S1) after my HDD started corrupting files & registry after 5 years use.
I swapped it for an SSD, now I have some challenges which I'd love some help / wise advice with.
I WOULD LIKE TO: Either recover the image from data (need help) or do a full format of the Windows partitiion (ensuring I have all the right drivers) and begin the painful task of a rebuild.
1. Imaged the original HDD and applied the image to the SSD.
2. I have tried a new install of windows which has installed to the original drive but leaving only 10% space free.
3. When I break out of the boot sequence I dont get the Dell Recovery option but i can see the Recovery partition in 'Disk Management'.
4. I cant find the recovery discs easily (think house move and everything in the attic situation) made originally but I do have the data on my network NAS and can copy over to a USB stick - I have tried to boot to the USB but I cant make that happen.
A. Is there a good guide that allows me to download and boot to a recovery environment, format the C: drive and reinstall windows?
B. Is there anyway I can download software which can utilise existing data I have to recover the original windows state please?
I'd be grateful for any advice you can give!
Many thanks

Hi Folks,

I just did a clean install of Win7 and must have done something wrong. I found a file called Windows.old.

How do I accomplish this task? It's a good time to start over because I'm just at the stage of adding the security software. Already did the drivers but don't mind doing those over again.

I have a Dell 5150, Pentium D820, Dual Core 2.8 GHz with 3 GBs memory.

A:Clean Install of Win7 - Wipe Hard Drive Clean

Do you a regular Windows 7 installation disk, with Product Key?

If so, boot from that disk by setting your DVD drive as the first boot device in the BIOS or by choosing the DVD drive from a menu. Do you know how to do that?

Midway in the installation process you will come to a screen that asks where you want to install Windows. Look for "drive options, advanced" or something very close to that. Take that choice.

At the next screen, all of your partitions will be shown. Delete them all.

That will leave you with nothing but "unallocated space".

When you install to the unallocated space, it will be automatically formatted by Windows and you should end up with a very small "System Reserved" partition and a large C partition covering the rest of the drive.

Back up your data before beginning.

Windows.old is your old installation. If you proceed as above, you won't get it.

With 3 GB of RAM, you should probably go with 32-bit.

Welcome Fastdrive to the windows 7 forums.

It would help to know what kind of laptop you have. You evidently have an oem version of windows 7. Most laptop vendors will send you a set of re-install disks for a small fee. Other people's windows 7 disks most likely will not allow you to install using your laptops product key.

I recently installed Ubuntu 9 onto a USB HDD and I took out my Windows HDD and put in my old backup HDD and did the install that way now I can either have the linux HDD either plugged into the USB or inside the laptop itself.

I tried to put my Windows HDD into the USB caddy and boot from there and it did not work it got to the splash screen where the four parts of the window comes together then a blue screen of death flashes for a fraction of a second then it restarts the system and it never gets past that point. Is there a way I can get it to work via the USB route? It has nothing to do with the hardware compatibility of USB caddy because my Windows HDD is the original HDD that came with the caddy. I swapped my original drive with that one because it was larger. So is there anyway I can accomplish this without having to reinstall Win7 onto the drive as reinstalling all my software too is a pain in the behind so if that can be avoided then that is what I would like to do.

A:How can I install windows7 onto a USB HDD?

You can't install Win7 on an external USB device. What blocks it is the USB controller. The same external or flash drive would work if it is plugged via IDE/SATA cable.

MS tries hard to keep this from being possible as otherwise you could carry WIn7 around in your pocket to any machine.

A few claim they have done it but admit it runs horribly slow.

I have this weird problem. I have until now installed a countless number of windows on any given computer but this is the first time I stumble upon this kind of problem. This is an HP laptop infected with a lot of viruses and i can barely turn windows on. That's why I decided I do a format and clean install, but every time I try to boot it from cd it gives me the white blinking line and after a few seconds it continues loading the old version of windows(it's like its not even reading the disc even though I can hear the disc spining) and when i try to boot it from the usb it just keeps displaying the white blinking line. I should mention that I tried both the usb and cd on another computer and they work fine. Thank you

A:Can't install windows7

Is the computer set to boot from the disk first in the bios? I am sure that even if you reinstall Win 7 the first copy of Windows will be put into a folder called Windows.old which will mean the viruses will still be there. I would wipe the disk clean before installing Windows again.

I am in Thailand and my old Dell 1458 needed service. I contacted Dell (Malaysia) for a service location and the final result was a fried motherboard and Dell accepting no responsibility.  So I went and bought a new Dell  Inspiron 5559 (Why?). Computers here come with either no OS or Ubuntu even though Dell advertises Windows 10. I have the original reinstallation Windows 7 disc from the Dell 1458. Can I use that to install Windows 7 on the new computer?

A:Install Windows7

No. If your 5559 didn't come with Windows, you can't install it without purchasing a license.

I am trying to do a clean install Windows7 in place of an existing XP Pro operating system. I have followed Windows Easy - Transfer to & from Computers procedure. All backed up to external drive K - I have tried this once but for some reason instead of installing on the C drive it went to another drive D. I did not see during the installation and options saying the drive to install to. I expect I will need to format D to get rid of it. Having done that is it best to disconnect D so this does not happen again? Should I also switch off the external drive K till the installation is complete?

Help will be greatly appreciated.

A:Windows7 from XP Pro install query

Was your OS installed to d: or is your file transfer defaulting to D: while your os is on the c: ?

So I tried to upgrade from 7201 to 7229 and I got a black and then went to grey screen, so I had to rollback to 7201, upgrade was a nogo for me, so then this morning I did a fresh install of 7229 and to my surprise it installed in less then 22 minutes. So if the RTM will install in less them 30 minutes I am going to get it as soon as it is out. the install time gets better with every new release.

A:Windows7 RC 7229 install

It is very fast installation. Even from a DVD-R.

Am wanting to do fresh install of W7. After placing DVD disc into DVD player and then restarting and pressing Delete key to enter BIOS I get two different choices to boot from DVD. One says DVD and the other says DVD UEFI.

Which one do I pick?
Would both choices ensure I have a bootable OS?
If I install using DVD UEFI choice will that install allow me to clone my OS which I would do with Acronis True Image 2014?
Does my current installation have some way of knowing how my current OS install was done..either DVD or DVD UEFI

My motherboard is an Asus Z87C and the BIOS screen has the words Asus UEFI in top left corner.

I have never done an install of OS so please help as I do not want to do the wrong type of install. Thanks Gary

A:Install Windows7 from DVD or DVD UEFI?

Neither method would be considered wrong. Just choose boot from DVD, let us know what heppens.

Could you please post a shot of Disk Managenent now, before you start.

Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image

You do not have to go into the bios to make a choice, just use the 1 time Boot Menu key, ususally F8 then choose boot from dvd drive.

You should really research the subject before even attempting this.
