Hotmail not remembering password

Q: Hotmail not remembering password

Has anyone had any updates about solving the problem with hotmail failing to remember passwords? It gets irksome having to type in the password every time an emailing session takes place. There doesn't seem to be any way of contacting the administrators of hotmail to get a direct answer. Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Hotmail not remembering password

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am using a Firefox browser which has just been updated to I don't like version 3.

When i login to hotmail & check the 'remember me on this computer' tab, it does remember me after i sign out until i close the browser.
When i re-open the browser, i have to type all in again!

Ok, i think in IE, it remembers me all the time!

Could it be the update?

When i was about to contact hotmail technical help, it said to include any software just installed in my query!
As i say, recent update & also i installed SuperAntispyware & System info for Windows info, thats all.

Help appreciated.

Hi all. I'm on Vista and an Acer Aspire 5920G laptop.
A few weeks ago, my pc stopped remembering my username on my Hotmail account.
I didn't change anything and wasn't aware of downloading anything that would have changed the settings. I have tried to sort it out, but can't make it happen.
Other usernames arre remembered (the one on TechGuy for example).
I go to my emails quite often during the day and have a long username, so it's getting a bit boring.
Can anyone offer a solution??
Thanks in advance. Mark.

I have a Pentium Core Duo with Vista Home Premium, Norton 360, MS Outlook and two separate user accounts (one the Administrator). Even tho I checked the "Remember Password" box for both users, Outlook continually asks me to hand-enter the password every time I open it - from either account. I have Outlook set to automatically send/receive upon opening. Any advice on how I can get Outlook to remember the password for each user and stop asking for it every time I open Outlook?

I have an account on a website that is quite important; it is a https site. It remembers my username and password, so I went to Internet options and deleted the history, passwords, cookies etc. I also edited the options to "don't remember passwords or data entered into forms etc" but the problem still persists. The people who manage that site told me it's not a problem of which they are aware either.

I would try a different web browser but neither chrome nor firefox seem to support all the functions of this site. If I am missing something obvious or if anyone has anything else worth trying please do let me know......thank you.

ive gone through the options and tools and such for firefox and ive got the 'remember passwords for sites' box checked under security but to no avail...

I know this same problem has been posted a number of times, but I can't find a situation similar to mine.

When I check the "remember password" box in Outlook Express V6, the password isn't retained. I read the Microsoft article about how to correct this, but here's the problem. Microsoft says to go to the registry and locate the key named; HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider, right-click on the DEFAULT subkey and delete it. My problem is that the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider doesn't exist in my registry. Any ideas? Running Windows ME.

I'm a new Skype user (Skype Portable) and the only way I can get Skype to remember my password is to not sign out but use the Quit Skype option when right-clicking the taskbar entry. I found this by doing a global search.

Doing this leaves me signed in to Skype (Task Manager shows the two Skype entries), so I'm wondering if this could be a problem, security wise.

Also, if anyone does know of a way to get Skype to actually remember the password, maybe adding a line to an ini file (appinfo.ini ?) I'd sure like to know.

Thanks for any help.

Hello all,

I help out part-time at my local library. One of our research stations (Win2k), just can't seem to remember the login/password info for a site we frequently access. We make sure the "save password" box is checked when logging in. After IE is closed and restarted, when a patron tries to log in, the username/password fields are blank, even though we saved it previously.

We have that info saved on our other research stations and the info never gets lost. It's just this one problem system. All the systems are running Win2K and have latest IE version and updates. All the settings are near identical.

The site in question is www.corptech.com. It is the login part to their secure site. It is a research database in which we allow patrons to access. That is why we keep all the login/password info saved, so patrons can go directly into the site. The problem system can never remember this info, so we always have to retype the info to login, which is a hassle.

I have double-checked the settings (autocomplete, privacy settings etc.), run adware/spyware/virus scans and uninstall/reinstalled IE. I'm still having this password problem. I downloaded Firefox and the password manager remembers the info successfully everytime. But not IE on this one system. So it seems to me something is wrong with IE. I have even tried clearing all the cache, cookies, temp files, then reattempting to login and save the info. It still isn't remembering.

You can find a click here - more or less any where on a google search and clicking on anything and calling a number that presumably you do not know who you were speaking to - is most inadvisable

that is the same procedure for Outlook - (Hotmail)

Story is the following, few days/week ago my password was changed.
So I managed to recover easily, but shortly after it changed again.

Besides my hotmail he also got into my skype and my runescape account (online game). Because he logged into my runescape account I got his ip:

After looking further into it I found this hacker put in his e-mail adress into my alternative adresses: [email protected]

I deleted his alternative adress off my list, changed secret question after I scanned my computer with free avast and Malwarebytes but they found no threats at all. Yet again password changed and I can recover again...

So I send him a simple mail what is he doing and received one back so confirming it is him who is actually doing it and saying:

all you did is check the recovery settings of your email account :)

I don't know what to do now, if anyone could help me out, this is a nightmare..

Edit: I got another message from him, he said he won't stop hacking me unless I give him the pass of my runescape account with all its belongings, if not he'll **** up my facebook he says (which I don't even have).

He send it from my own account... So that's what he is after ...

When you want to get account info, you get an e-mail to the accounts registered e-mail adress. But since the account is registrated to your e-mail adress, they can't simply get it that way. And that is a good thing.

Did you check for spyware or viruses?

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Download and install Spybot S&D. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

Download CWShredder and run it. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree with it. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and OK. A:[Resolved] hotmail password problem

It's possible you are experiencing the problem described here:

However I've had this happen to me in the past and it appeared to be related to the presence of old cookies.

I'd try finding and deleting all msn/passport cookies in the cookie folder. Or just use IE to delete all the cookies through Internet Options -- you will have to reenter on all sites that store password cookies afterwards.

If you have IE listed in Internet Options, you can also try running the Repair tool by clicking Remove > Repair.

Im using hotmail, but each time I log in using Vista I have to write the password. In windows 7 it works well(in another PC)

Ive checked f.ex the autocomplete-function and many other things

Other internet sites is working, ie the passwords complete automatically. Its just hotmail that dont works.

Ive been googling this problem some hours now, but I dont find a solution

Someone knows a solution?

A:Vista and hotmail password problems

Hi 1976kjell,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Let's make sure Hotmail is set to save the password and logon information. Go to Start / Control Panel / Mail / Setup Email Account and Directories and double-click on your Hotmail account. Confirm that the box to remember the password is checked.

If it's set right there, I recommend you change the password for Hotmail and this may trigger auto-complete to save the new one and you'll be good to go. If not, you may at some point have told Hotmail not to save your password (which could be over-riding autocomplete) or responded that way to auto-complete and so now it is set to no longer ask. If the latter is the case, the only solution is to reset auto-complete (where you will lose all current auto-complete items) and re-start from scratch - beginning with Hotmail to be sure it works this time.

Whether you want it enough to reset auto-complete (assuming that even works - there's no guarantee that will solve the problem. I don't have that problem with Vista and Hotmail, but I'm not certain where the information is coming from - it may not be from auto-complete or may be being blocked some other way we haven't yet figured out) is entirely your risk and your decision.

I hope this helps. If you don't want to delete auto-complete but want to pursue Hotmail password blocks further, post back and I'll try to research it further though it may take some time.

Good luck!

Went to sign in on laptop but before I could put in the NEW password it wants my OLD one. Well - if I could remember the old one I would not have done a new one. PLEASE HELP with this!!!

Hello cedarhill, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If this is for your Microsoft account, then you could use step 5 in Option Two of the tutorial below to reset your password online at Microsoft.

Is there any way I can somehow reset the password and have the email sent to another address since I cannot access the email I'm resetting for? I already signed up again under a different screename for MSN but I switched it from hotmail.com to live.com

Whenever I attempt to type in the password and submit to see if I get lucky, it says this password has been entered too many times incorrectly and blah blah blah...it tells me to wait. Well, I waited a week and I went back to try it and it still said that. I don't even know how I forgot it. I was in the process of changing all my passwords to all the emails/sites I belong to so I could remember them easily since most of them were all different...but that didn't seem to work too well. I don't see how I keep doing the wrong password though, since I only have like 5 variants with different words and such and I tried all of them and it keeps saying wrong password or "you've entered this incorrect password too many times".

Maybe someone hacked into it? I doubt it though.

Thanks , if any of you can help.

You haven't provided an alternative email to send your password reset?
Hmmm, in that case it might be difficult I'm afraid.
However, on Windows Live they say that if you have re-entered wrong passwords and your account gets blocked, you still should have a chance to try again by using a verification system. Aren't you shown characters to enter, so that you can try to log in again?
