I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Peer-to-Peer workgroup network setup at home (NO domain). My Windows2000pro machine can access the 98 machines fine but the 98 machines cannot access the Windows2000 machines. It will prompt me with a dialog box with some path to that PC and need password.

What do I need to do? Do I need to give permission since Win2k is build in a NT environment. If so, how can I do this.

Thanks in advance.

Hi guys,

I am facing an issue in our organization. One of our user in the organization has changed the settings such that I cannot ping the system. Similarly I can't even access the system through remote registry option or through Computer Management-->Connect to a Remote Computer. I am getting the error message "Computer_Name cannot be managed. The Network path was not found." I have the Domian Admin rights but I am unable to get information about this system. I have checked the windows firewall setting on his computer by asking him to show me the firewall settings but there is no such configuration that can prevent the form accessing the system.

Can you please help me out what could be the possible reason for this??

A:Unable to Ping the Machines and Access the Remote Registry

Many possible reasons; network cable unplugged, network adapter disabled/driver problem, changed ip address, dns record changed/deleted. Knowing what settings the user changed would be a good start at fixing this instead of starting with --> "is the computer on" etc.

I need to download these VMs to test work for clients. I know it's old tech but it's essential for me.
Any idea where to get them from, or where an old archive download may be?

Hello everyone,

Let me start with the hardware:

1. my machine is a Getac B300 with a Windows XP Professional 32-bit/Windows 7 Professional 64-bit dual boot.
2. My wife's machine is a Toshiba U500 with Windows 7 Professioanl 64-bit.

Normally, I use the U500 as a hub: I connect it to the internet using a 3G-enabled Sony Ericsson Elm that I control through Sony Ericsson PC Suite 6.011.00* (I have an unlimited connectivity plan.) As soon as the U500 is connected, I set up a WEP-encrypted ad hoc network and connect my B300 (regardless of which system I happen to be booted into) and my wife's iPhone.**

I can do the same if I choose to boot into Windows 7 on my B300 and use that as the hub.

My question however, is as to why I can't get this whole setup to work out with Windows XP. I normally use the exact same way to connect to the internet (Elm and SE PC Suite), and I've attempted to set up an ad hoc network when I'm booted into Windows XP (through Windows and through Intel Proset), and I even managed to get the U500 and my wife's iPhone to connect to the network, but neither machine would get any internet access, even though I made sure to turn on Internet Connection Sharing for the connection.

So I'm beginning to wonder if it's even possible to get it to work with XP (as opposed to 7) being the hub.

*Sorry, but Sony Ericsson PC Companion sucks.
** Note, though, that my other Sony Ericsson Elm (and a Hazel I keep around for emergencies) can connect to that network, b... Read more

All services are working properly, but we feel some slowness in the network and we are suspecting some machine is broadcasting and causing network devices to feel lost.

We have found also a single machine having a mac of 00:00:00:00 but we are unable to locate it so could this machine have something to do with such behavior and where should we really start from.

Well, this seems like a case of malware, but given that it has struck both vista machines at the same time, I am starting the thread in the Vista forum.

This morning, I got up and discovered that both of the Vista machines in our 4 machine network, are un-able to access the internet via browser. Strangely, they can access each other, share files, and I can even ping out to google from a command line, but that is as far as it goes. I get a connection error in both IE and Firefox. I can access the internet without issue on my XP laptop which I am presently typing on. It seems odd that whatever is at play affected both machines at the same time, which is why I tend to think malware, but who knows..

When I diagnose Connection problems in IE it tells me that windows did not detect any problems with this computers network connection.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Basically:My computer was completely fine, my Monday evening regular virus/spyware searches turned up 0 results. Tuesday morning I went on the internet, got a few IE popups (even though I use Firefox). Decided to do a Malwarebytes scan and got over 750 infected objects infected. Let the scan finish and was told to restart computer, restarted and the problems started. I completely lost my desktop, no icons and no toolbar; a few more restarts and I managed to get them back but nothing else worked. Every program says I don't have the rights to access it or the computer has the resources to start.I can't access the internet and any scans I can run stop in the middle and give me the 'system resources' error.I'm not using that computer at the moment, since I'm completely unable to use it.Firstly I must ask, is is necessary to save the dds.scr and rootrepeal scanners directly to the desktop, or can they be moved there after being downloaded to another location? I can't access the internet on the infected computer so I will be unable to download them if they MUST be saved to the desktop. I have already managed to run a Win32kDiag scan (attached).Thank you for any help.

Hi there,

My Lenovo Thinkpad laptop got infected by several pop-ups and unwanted programs over the course of the weekend. I launched Avast anti virus, which got rid of the pop ups, and I've manually deleted some of the programs (fake cleaners, etc.) I did not personally download during the time of attack.

I am currently running windows 10 (dumb enough to click the trial, duh)

The laptop is extremely slow now. I have problems accessing the internet from all major browsers (citing DNS errors on Microsoft Edge, Chrome and Opera). However I am able to access the internet using Avast's Safebrowse internet browser.

I have copied the FRST logs as per the rules.

A warning in advance: this is going to be a fairly long post. I don't know a ton about troubleshooting but I'm not computer illiterate and I've tried quite an array of tests while trying to fix things on my own.

First of all my laptop is an:
HP Presario V6000(GB115AV)
I'm running windows 7, I upgraded from vista last october. I had problems once back in january with being unable to download windows updates. At the time I found something suggesting that this could be due to a corrupted download and so I reinstalled win 7 and everything worked fine.

Now about 2 weeks ago I started up my laptop and although it showed up as being connected under network connections none of my applications which require the internet work.

Edit: I know that the problem isn't my ISP or the network I'm on since both the computer I'm currently using to post this(my parent's desktop) and my laptop connect to the same network. And no were not using a router, we can only have 1 computer connected at a time. We simply unplug the ethernet cable from one computer and put it into the other.

I've looked at my ipconfig settings and everything looks fine. I even tried ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew as well as ipconfig /dnsflush just to be safe. No luck with any of that.

Then I went and looked at the system logs, and found that ever since about november of last year there have been intermittent problems with the BITS service not starting. More recently BITS has not been starting and I've been... Read more

no ideas? I'm just about ready to give up and try doing a factory reset back to vista and hope that fixes things.

Edit: Just found out additional info about my network adapter, apparently theres been no downloads for it on the intel download center for OS's after win XP. But on a different page it said that there is "in box support" for it. Would this mean that the appropriate driver was included in my win 7 install, or that my adapter is outdated for win 7 and that is causing my problem? For Reference my computer is less than 3 years old and came initially installed with vista on it. My adapter is the Intel(R) Pro 100/VE Network Connection.

Thanks in advance for helping me out. I'm having a problem with my laptop where I am unable to access the internet using any browser! I was using IE, and I thought the problem might just be with IE, so I downloaded Firefox (using my desktop PC) and installed it on the laptop. Same results. It just says something like "Connecting to 64.123.24.222" in the status bar then gives me a DNS error as if I'm not connected to the internet. However, I know my internet connection is fine because Outlook connects to my mail provider and downloads e-mail just fine on the same laptop and my desktop runs off of the same connection. I should also mention that I tried using both the regular Ethernet connection and wireless connection (as I have a wireless router), and it doesn't seem to make a difference which way I'm connecting. Still nothing. Both connections are set up to obtain IP address and DNS server automatically. I have AVG virus finder and have run it with no threats found. I've also run Spybot with no problems found and Advanced WindowsCare and cleaned up any problems that it found. It just started doing this yesterday, and I've tried everything I know to do with no luck.

Any ideas?

Hello,

As this is a thread replicated from the Windows 7 forum as advised, I'll include the latest post here to avoid confusion on process followed so far. Please advise on next steps.

Thank you.

Hi, I've run the Microsofteasyfix20140.mini file as suggested. Unfortunately it did not resolve the issue. After reading through the process for running this manually, I noted that it seem to have some similar step available in the 'Reset.bat' file I have been running. so This did not resolve the issue.

With regards question on 'is Ethernet working', not really sure what this means. But I do see that I am connected to the network, and my wife's PC is able to access this same network. Only thing is that below the network name, message 'No Internet Access' is noted.

The following is also my PC specs if this is needed for troubleshooting.

XPS L502X
Intel Core i7-2620M CPU @ 2.70 GHZ
Memory - 8.00 GB
64-bit Operating System
Windows 7 Home Premium edition

Please advise if I should continue posting to this thread or shift to the thread I created with the same title in the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum.

Thank you again.

Hello! I have a problem. It has been more 2 weeks now since my laptop is suddenly unable to access the internet (both wifi and cable).

It succesfully connects to a wireless network, I can see the name of it, but after connecting my laptop is displaying "No internet access" below the network name. Also, In the task bar, my wireless icon has an exclamation mark, in a yellow triangle. I have tried to connect with another laptop and it worked fine with the other laptop. So, is the problem with my laptop, or with the network setting. Can you help me?

Hello,

I have a problem connecting to the Internet.

I have a small network containing two computers connected to a D-Link router (DI - 704P), which is connected to the DSL-modem which, in turn, is connected the Internet. The router is set up to work as the DHCP-server and it hands out IP-adresses just fine.

This setup worked well until recently when one of the computers, during a night when noone was using it and it was turned off, stopped being able to access the Internet. Actually, it CAN access the Internet since I can ping computers on the Internet using either IP or name. However, when I use an FTP-program och Firefox I cannot access the FTP-server I want or the Web. The Internet connection works just fine for the other computer in the network.

I have tried to re-install the Network Adapter, turn of the Router and DSL Modem. I have also uninstalled Norton Internet Security since I have heard it can cause issues.

I would be very glad for any assistance!
/ Nelson

For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.
Sounds like a browser problem. I saved the following from a previous thread, and think the steps may help your problem. Open a Command window (Start - Run - cmd - OK) and ...

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset [log_file_name]

Note: the log_file_name needs to be specified, e.g. netsh int ip reset reset.log

THIS IS ABOUT MY LAPTOP AND NOT BEING ABLE TO BROWSE THE INTERNET AT ALL ON IT (WIRELESSLY OR WITH ETHERNET CABLE JOINING IT TO THE ROUTER)
13 days ago I was on my laptop, i had just turned it on and realised i wasn't able to connect wirelessly to the internet (although i was apparently connected wirelessly to our house's network.... like normal).
I'm on Vista and, sorry I am not good with technical terms whatsoever guys, the little two monitors with a globe icon didn't have a globe (just two monitors!).

NOW WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO SAY THAT: I've had this laptop for years and the router for slightly less, but the whole time I've had that router, it has been connected to the desktop pc via an ethernet cable (and i'd been able to connect wirelessly to our network on my laptop and browse the internet on my laptop).
Recently the desktop pc got moved into the other room where it had never been turned on since (just because no one needed to), and it had been in that room for weeks before this problem happened.

About 10 days ago I connected my ethernet cable into my laptop (the other end connected to the router) and I was able to browse the internet! I went into the other room trying to stretch the ethernet cable to reach... but when i tried to browse the internet again, i wasn't able to.

It's hard to remember all this detail but I believe that it was after that event that I plugged the ethernet cable back into my desktop pc (other end in router), plugged the pc in (it had not ... Read more

Hi,
I am unable to access internet using my Dell XPS notebook with Windows 7. I did not have this issue since a couple of days ago. The Wireless Network Connection shows that it is connected, but there is yellow triangle that indicates there is no internet access.
I believe it may be malware related, as my Malwarebytes alerted me on an issue, that it has found issues and wanted me to restart the notebook.
I was able to restart, and run a full scan using both Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials. It was not able to find any further issues virus or malware, but then I lost my internet connection. I have done multiple refreshes of the modem, router, and worked with Cox (ISP provider) over several hours to fix the issue.

I was looking for possible solutions on-line, and saw the post here for 'Fix Internet Connection after Malware Removal'. It is very well drafted, and the first part of the solution was similar to a lot of the steps I followed with Cox in diagnosis of the issue. I run the reset.bat again but it also did not help. The second step, using Farbar service scanner, was new and I was hopeful this is the fix. however, after running the scanner, file check did not find any missing drivers. Everything was digitally signed.

The Connection Status also seems like the same issue I have:
Localhost is accessible.
LAN connected.
Google IP is accessible.

Hope somebody can help. I have a problem with my computer which may or may not be a virus. When I boot, I am able to access the internet for about 4 or 5 minutes, then I cannot. This occurs with both IE and Firefox.
I am running XP with sp2. I have ZoneAlarm, AVG antivirus, and Avira antivirus installed although I am unable to update more than one at a time before I can no longer access the internet.
My son (who is in Belgium and unable to help) told me there is a possibility of a virus and to go to one of the forums for help. (so here I am) I have Spyware blaster, Adaware, Superantispyware, and Spybot search and destroy installed. None of the above programs can find anything, although I can only update one a day. I have downloaded Hijack this, and Otscanit after reading the stickys. The are both loaded on the affected computer via Floppy disc (yes I have a floppy drive and yes, I realize old people should not be allowed to play with computers) I am basically computer dumb so if you can help, please be patient.
Oh, I have Time Warner Roadrunner Cable, the little TV's in the toolbar show I am on line.
Thanks in advance

To allow your program to run, there are a few things you can try to fix this problem: Filterid: 66424 protocol: 17 Localaddr: 0.0.0.0 remoteaddr: 192.168.2.1:53 appid: C:\windows \system32\svchost.exe

whats the ip addres you get assigned

try these ping tests to see if you have got a connection - even though webpages do not display

try a tcp/ip reset = see below
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Any ideas?

Thanks!

A:Unable to access internet via URL

If he can visit some websites (they're not cached are they?) and not ping them i usually find this is down to my firewall. If you co-worker has installed a firewall get them to check their firewalls network config. Most firewalls have ICMP features such as 'Ping and tracert in/out'. Also make sure he is using ping correctly! Ping will not like:
Code:
C:\> ping http://www.google.com
Basically check this.

If not try a system restore to when it was working...
It could be many many things so best to start somewhere easy

I tried pinging websites (google) and it was successful.
I also tried repairing my connection and releasing & renewing my network information with no success.

I was concerned that the problem may be malware related but the HijackThis log I posted in the security forum apparently looked fine. I have not found anything when I performed scans either. Please let me know if you have any ideas or know what the issue may be. Thanks!!

Hey, I searched his forum for my problem, and didn't find anything... so here goes:

After installing SP2, my laptop (connected to router via wireless) has not been able to access the internet.
All other clients to the router (both wireless and wired) have internet access.

Checking my laptop's configurations, I have disabled the windows firewall, and norton firewall isn't running. I cannot access any internet page or the router setup page via any browser.
I uninstalled SP2, but nothing changed. Also, since installing SP2 claimed the last Gb of my HD space, and to uninstall it wanted a further 200Mb space, I had to run a cleanup program to free it (in the process, taking out many temporary files.... and all system restore points).

It has been assigned a valid IP address by the router (no conflicts) and 'repair' ing it in Network Connections said to have succeeded, but internet/router page were still unaccessible.
Changing back to a default HOSTS file didn't resolve, and multiple (around 7) attempts to use the networking wizard produced no results.

In command prompt, I can ping my router successfully. I can even ping google.com, and most other websites (msn websites resolved to 'akadns' and 'nsatc' hosts, and some timed out).
Messenger clients such as Xfire or MSN messenger do not work either... I'm sure this is a simple problem with a simple solution and that I'm making it to be more complicated than it is... but a... Read more

I am running win98SE, cable modem connection, using TCP/IP with DHCP to detect IP address and all. When I boot everything seems to go fine and I am able to get an IP address with DNS entries and everything but when I run my browser (or any other internet program) it times out and is unable to get online. I tried editing a key(Winsock) in the registry through the advice of Microsoft's knowledge base but it had no effect. Can someone please help me out?

Thanks

some basics first:

open IE
on menu bar
tools
internet options
connections
- tick off 'never dial a connection'
apply

on same connections page
lan settings
untick everything on that page
apply
ok

close IE

open IE

what happens?
- does it connect to your homepage?
- can you browse around to other pages?

and:
what KB article or article number are you referring to?
-ie what key was changed? from what / to what?
