X1 Carbon 7th Gen (20QD) Touchpad not working, UltraNav Tab not showing in Mouse Options

Q: X1 Carbon 7th Gen (20QD) Touchpad not working, UltraNav Tab not showing in Mouse Options

On my X1 Carbon 7th Gen - (Type 20QD) the touchpad is not working. track point is working fine so are the ultra nav buttonstouchpad is completely unresponsivethere is not ultranav or synaptics tab in my addtional mouse options (mouse properties) in settingsI have touchpad settings in windows settings. I tried setting sensitity to max. Didn't change anything. That's the only option apart from the link for additional settings which is missing the tab. I can't roll back drivers -> option is greyed out on HID-compliant mouse (I assume thats the touchpad in device manager)there doesn't seem to be a synaptic driver installedon the lenovo X17 support page is no synaptic driver to download only a firmware update. Which, when I try to execute, tells me that there needs to be a synpatic driver installed in order to upgrade the firmware. I tried pressing FN+F8 and all other F keys...I also can't see a function key that enables or disables the touchpad. Is there one? In BIOS both trackpoint and touchpad are turned onThankful for any advice...

Preferred Solution: X1 Carbon 7th Gen (20QD) Touchpad not working, UltraNav Tab not showing in Mouse Options

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Thinkpad E540, Windows 10 Version 1703, UltraNav driver 19.0.17.115 While my Touchpad is still working correctly, the UltraNav Touchpad tab in the Mouse Properties of the device manager is now missing. The last tab at the right end of the Mouse Properties is Hardware and no longer UltraNav. However, my original settings of the touchpad are still kept.Uninstalling and reinstalling of the UltraNav driver did not fix the issue. The tab was probably lost following a recent update of Windows 10.  Any idea how I could get the UltraNav tab back? Many thanks to the communityPeter

Hi I use a USB mouse with my laptop so not sure when trackpad/point stopped working- I first became aware of the issue a couple of weeks ago. I have since reset my machine (Windows 10) twice to see if that fixes it and also downloaded drivers from this site but to no avail. Can anyone offer assistance? Thanks in advance Huw

Thus far I failed to identify the circumstances in which the touchpad stops working. It seems to sometimes happen when it checks for an update. What is also curious that the cursor will sometimes mess up such that the text cursor will be displayed as the context menu cursor. Not sure if this is related. The touchpad works again after restart. Everything is up-to-date, running Windows 10 (1909). The TrackPoint is unaffected by this.

I'm trying to PXE boot a brand new X1 Carbon 7th gen. It's plugged into 40A7 ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro Dock since it doesn't have an ethernet port. This is the dock that was recommended for the laptop by Lenovo and our vendor. It will start to download the wim and then it goes into normal setup as if I'm not trying to PXE boot. I've tried disabling the Thunderbolt 3 port, still nothing. Does anyone know of a fix or workaround?

Hello, I bought a brand new X1 Carbon 20Q model and it seems at even after running all the think vantage updates, there is the Ultranav option missing in the mouse options. I want to configure the touchpad settings individually (e.g. switch primary and secondary buttons only for the touchpad but not for the USB mouse). Also right click by double clicking on the trackpoint is not working at the moment. In short, I miss all the options usually provided in thinkpad models. I tried everything, please help if you can. The drivers listed on the lenovo page seem not to work. I installed the newest touchpad driver, yet in the device manager it still shows the MS driver from 2006... Thank you!

Hello and welcome,

My suspicion is that pointing device control has been taken over by Microsoft - "precision touchpad" - in newer ThinkPads.

Hello, I am using the x1 carbon 7th gen 20QD and trying to get ethernet to work through the thunderbolt docking station.  I have installed all the drivers from the lenovo site for the gen1 and gen2 thunderbolt dock and ethernet still does not work through either thunderbolt docking station.  Ethernet works fine with the usb-c travel hub and the ethernet adaptor that plugs in next to the USB-C works as well.   I have also swapped the dock out with the thunderbolt dock on my yoga 370 and ethernet works through the dock on the yoga. We recently purchased three of these for our team. They do not work with USB-C portable drives or with the Thunderbolt Dock. I first tired these with a 40A9 dock as CDW stated it was compatible. Since that didn't work, we tested with the Gen 2 docks which Lenovo stated were compatible.  I have tried to reimage the machine, reinstall drivers, tried other cables, laptops, and attempting to change settings in the BIOS like Thunderbolt security. Nothing has worked to allow us to use the docks ethernet. It's just not seen by the system. I have gotten it working sans drivers with the 40AJ docking station. I know this docking station is listed as working with Gen 6 and I can locate plenty of guides on how to configure this machine for the dock.  Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to find a way that the touch pad and trackpoint will disable when I connect an external mouse.  Other computers I've used have a setting for this, but I can not find one the Carbon X1. I don't want to disable them permanently (or at least not both of them) for those few times I'm not using an external mouse. My preference would be to disable one permanently, and the other only when an external mouse is present. Thanks

Hello Tristan,

Welcome to the forums.

Been a while since I had a laptop, but I seem to remember there being a setting on what to do with the touchpad when the mouse is plugged in. Unfortunately I don't remember where and have no way of finding it.

Have you tried rebooting with the mouse unplugged?

Sorry I can't be of more help. The manual for the laptop ought to have that info in it somewhere.

Hello! The touchpad of my X1 stopped working again . I tried to uninstall the Synaptics device, which makes it work again after the first reboot, but when the Synaptics driver is automatically reinstalled it will stop working again. Strangely gestures like 4 finger swipe works but the cursor doesn't move, and the touchpad driver diagnostics also seems to see finger movements. It seems that the device is detected as as Synaptics TouchPad V9.16 on PS2 Port instead of using the SMBus: Can anyone help with this issue or post screenshots from their working X1 C6 (Thinkpad tab in the mouse properties and press Alt+Shift+i) ?

I want to use the Windows option "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected" enabled. Reason: I have my Unifying dongle from Logitech permanently connected which seems to be recognized as a mouse even if no mouse is actually connected.  Problem: Since the latest driver update (I updated all, so no idea which one caused the issue) the option does not work any more. Regardless of the setting, the touchpad is switched off when I have the dongle attached. Now I have to remove the dongle every time I have no mose present, which is a pain and will eventually lead to loss of the dongle. The laptop is a Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th gen 20KG with Windows 1803 Enterprise.

Everything else work fine, I just have to wait, sometimes 20/30sec, sometimes a whole minute, to have the trackpad working. This is very frustrating to have a computer resuming so fast from hibernation but being unable to use it. I have the latest BIOS (1.15), latest UltraNav driver (19.0.17.98).Tried several drivers uninstallation/reinstallation, several fresh windows install, problem is still present. Actually on a fresh install of Windows 10 64bit (Anniversary update).

It works when i start the computer but after a few minutes of scrolling up and down it does not work anymore.  The only way to have it function again is to either restart (which will again only work for a few minutes) or use a bluetooth mouse to uncheck and check the mouse settings for trackpoint which that too will work for a few minutes only. I've updated the bios and updated the driver. Still not stable. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Is there a way we can change the touchpad Reverse scrolling option (Scroll --> Two Finger Scrolling --> Switch Direction) on the X1 Carbon through an automated way. We see that after Windows 10 upgrade, the scroll option on the touchpad has been changed. So doing it manually it works but we want to automate it either through a registry change or some other method. Yes manual changes works perfectly.

So, during the windows installer, no mouse. I couldn't see the pointer, neither the touchpad or trackpoint worked. I managed through using the keyboard, then once I got to the desktop I installed the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad" driver and rebooted. Still not working. I installed the thinkvantage system update, it detects no updates. I installed the service bridge. No updates. I then made a linux live USB that I use to install manjaro on all my laptops, yes everything worked out of the box on my previous x1 carbon. Touchpad doesn't work, xorg doesn't even recognize any touchpad present. Anyone else have this? Any solutions? This is actually my 2nd X1 carbon; the first works well but the mouse buttons are loose so Lenovo promised waived restocking and shipping with the purchase of a new order of equal or greater value; I ordered another one with plans to return the first one, because I really needed to keep it for work while I waited for the new one. The new one is actually flawless in terms of build, mouse buttons are solid, the CMOS battery is not loose and producing a rattling noise as it is in the first one, and the bottom cover doesn't have the clicking noise that so many are afflicted with. Really I'm willing to try anything to fix the touchpad.

Tried installing Synaptics drivers - it said there was no device for update. Are there any possible solutions?(Searched on the forum, but the solutions were not for my case or didn't work)P.S. It would be kinda stupid for a $1500 laptop not to work because of a touchpad

I recently did a clean install. I installed the latest versions of System Update and Service Bridge (not Vantage), updated everything and everything worked well. However, a few days later, after a standby both mouse and trackpoint were unresponsive. So here is what I did: I restarted, but both still did not work.I uninstalled the device, still did not work.I did diagnostics at boot to find that both TrackPoint and TouchPad work.I re-installed the latest Synaptics UltraNav from here, and now the TrackPoint and TrackPoint buttons worked again, but the TouchPad still not functional. Now, when I uninstall the driver in Device Manager, the TouchPad comes back to life, but obviously quirky. When I re-install the driver, then, again, only the TrackPoint works. When I try to reflash the firmware I get error 0x62.I installed Vatage and checked for updates, but it didn't find any.In the TouchPad Driver Diagnostics (Ctrl-Shift-I in the ThinkPad tab in Mouse Settings) I find Device 0 and Device 2 and the TouchPad actually produces produces Thin_Finger events correctly. So the hardware is definitely working. Below I've attached diagnostic file.

HI All I am in need of help please i have a X1 Carbon that was Recently purchased for a user at our office. But as you can tell from the subject of this topic the touchpad and trackpad stops working working after a few minutes of working on the machine.  I used Lenovo System Update to update all the drivers to the latest version and this was not successfull, I then tried a reinstall  of windows and the manually downloaded the driver from lenovo website and installed it but still no luck. I have checked and they are not disabled in the Bios and they are not and the Bios is on the latest version I have also tried to let it run on the windows driver that downloads from windows but also it stops working. from what it looks like the trackpoint and touchpad disable cause when i go into the mouse properties the option to enable them both is greyed out i then log on as the local admin to see if it is a permission thing but it is also greyed out. This happens regardless if the machine is on battery or plugged inThis user travels  alot and needs them both to be working.  I came across the below forum but i dont see much of a response from lenovo.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-touchpad-and-trackpad-stops-working...

Hey guys, I own Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 6th with latest specs(except my screen is not HDR but a matte one). The laptop is approximately 4.5 months old and I have 3 years warranty on it. I noticed exactly the same "behaviour" around my touchpad which is described in this topic. With no explanation or reason, I have been seeing(already 5-6 times) when my touchpad simply freezes and the cursor stop moving completely. However, usually red button(pointer) along with keyboard work just fine. The only thing which always helped me to solve this issue is just rebooting the laptop.  All my drivers are up to date via Lenovo Vantage app as well as the latest precision windows 10 drivers installed. Any ideas what could cause this occasional touchpad freeze? Should I contact Lenovo warranty support or this is 100% related to a software issue, not the hardware?  Btw, I have done hardware scan test via Lenovo Vantage and no issues noticed at all. Appreciate any help here or advice as this is kind of frustrating considering how new is this machine.

Hello all.
I have an Alienware 14 and am running Windows 10 (although I have had this problem before updating, and was running Windows 7). The laptop is just over a year old, but the problem became apparent around 6 months after obtaining it.
My touchpad is not working. Using the function key and tpad button do not do anything. The touchpad will not show up in drivers. I tried to download and install the Synaptics Touchpad driver, but this did not do anything. I have to use a wireless external mouse. Note: At times I will get an error message telling me that my computer "Could not connect to the Synaptics driver"
Last night my touchpad randomly started working again, but the external mouse stopped working. This morning, the touchpad did not work, and the cursor was missing from my screen, and there was not even a mouse tab under devices. It reappeard as soon as I plugged in the external mouse.
I'm thinking this is a compliance problem between the Aienware display program and the touchpad driver.
I have contacted Dell support and have not gotten any solutions.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I am a new owner of a Lonovo ThinkPad with Windows 7, and I am having trouble with the settings. I am a lefty, so when I first configured the laptop I changed the mouse settings so that they are reversed. This worked fine.

But! I also wanted a real mouse, so I got a Microsoft wireless mouse (USB). Now, I mouse right handed since I am more used to it, so while the IntelliPoint software was installing, I changed the mouse settings back to default. I figured I would just go and change the settings whenever I didn't want to use the mouse.

But when the software finished installing, I found that the Control Panel Mouse window changed! Now, even when the mouse is unplugged, the place where I had been able to change the button settings is a new window that is specific for this mouse! Plus, these changes don't affect the UltraNav, so those buttons are still set for right-handed.

How do I change the UltraNav button settings?

A:Changing UltraNav settings while a mouse is connected

Hello thebookster, and welcome to the forum.

I think you will have to uninstall the new mouse to get your old settings back. Should this work and you set up your Ultranav for a left handed person the Ultranav settings may still not work on reinstalling the new mouse. but it is worth a try.

You should have softwarte to configure the touchpad, make sure everything is enabled.

Also check device manager and make sure the drivers appear to functioning normal. If everything looks OK try to find a newer version of the drivers for the tocuhpad and update those.

I'm running Win 10. My laptop is a Asus Zenbook UX501VW. I have tried reinstalling multiple drivers, multiple times, to no avail. Oddly, the touch screen still works perfectly fine, and for a while I was able to get gestures working on the touchpad (pretty much just scrolling), but now those don't work again. I have also tried three different mice, none of which worked (Microsoft WirelessMobile Mouse 3500, Kinzu V2, unsure of the model of the third).

This started suddenly about three weeks ago and I've been trying to fix it ever since. Like I said before I've tried reinstalling a bunch of drivers, including the ATK pack and Asus SmartGesture drivers, as well as the Microsoft Wireless drivers, yet nothing seems to work. If anyone has some insight on this issue it would be greatly appreciated, I work with adobe editing programs and the touch screen has been more than frustrating to use on these programs.

Indicates missing driver for Rival Gaming mouse. Auto-update doesn't produce anything but continues running, requiring shutdown through task manager.
I'm not sure where to look anymore, any advice would be appreciated.

Anybody got middle button under TrackPoint working as it was under XP? I don't need zoom nor scroll controls (stupid nonsense having this) - simply a middle click as it was before. Firefox and IE opens new tabs directly with it, doing X-things (Unix/Linux) remotely without middle click driving me crazy. Any help would be highly appreciated. rob* [update]After lot of fiddeling around luckily it is working. I cannot tell what was the reason. Assuming, that update of Ultranav driver and utility to latest version brought the wanted effect. Message Edited by willi21 on 09-22-2008 11:08 AM
