Are there Oracle 11g ODBC drivers for Windows 10

Q: Are there Oracle 11g ODBC drivers for Windows 10

When I search for Oracle ODBC drivers, I can only find drivers for Windows 7. I have seen installation instructions for installing Oracle 11g on Windows 10 (the actual database software) but I can't find anything on installing Oracle 11g ODBC drivers (32 or 64bit) for either Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. I've also looked on Oracles "Instant Client downloads for Microsoft Windows (x64)", but only can seem to find ODBC drivers that work with Windows 7. What's taking so long? This would seems to be a rather highly requested driver.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Good afternoon Lord Bob,

We recently switched from Oracle 8 databases to Oracle 11g. I have an existing Access 2002 database with a report that runs off a schema in the Oracle database.

I created a new ODBC entry to link the tables in Access to the new Oracle DB, however I am getting an OBDC failure error when I try to link them in the link table manager.

Is there anything I need to do, download new drivers for example, to get the report to properly link to the tables?

There is a similar thread on the Oracle forums which contains some solutions you can attempt to fix your problem:

Not sure if this is in the right section, I don't know a lot about this just trying to configure every last thing that matters, Windows sucks enough yeah and some things are just visual tweaks but not something you'd think about doing automatically, or re-arraging folders.

So the first thing I notice is in this control panel there seem to be Spanish ODBC drivers... how do I uninstall them, or are they needed for something when you don't speak spanish? (I install all language packs I can find so I dont' get squares and ?s on internet pages, other then that I have no use for most languages.) As well is there some easy way to update the rest of the ODBC drivers without intense Googling? Do I need the ones that seem to be for programs that I will never use (such as "Microsoft Fox")? If so how do I uninstall them?

Posted in this section because everything other then SQL seems to have something to do with a business application.

You can ignore the extra ODBCs (Open Database Connections). There would be not much value gained from deleting them. Why are you messing around with the ODBCs anyhow, are you doing development or setting up connections to a database on the backend of another database?

I have a new computer at work. Our IT people have promised to support Vista 64 starting this year, so I bit.

When I go to the ODBC administrator, there is nothing in the list of drivers that allows me to set up excel, access, or oracle files as data sources. Those drivers were always there in XP, even in my XP x64 installation. I'm seeing a lot of angry chatter about this problem on various forum websites, but I'm not seeing any solutions for getting those drivers in place.

Has anyone here seen that problem and fixed it? How?

32 Bit ODBC Drivers in Vista 64

This post isn't really PostgreSQL specific. It also happens with MySQL and Ingres (and any other 32 bit driver).

I am running Vista 64 on one of my machines. I installed Postgres 8.3 and the ODBC drivers. When I tried to setup an ODBC connection, the windows ODBC administrator program ODBCAD32.exe did not list Postgres. I noticed that it also did not list MySQL or Ingres even though I knew I had installed drivers for those databases also.

After a bit of research, I tracked down the issue. My ODBC drivers did in fact install. Microsoft, in all their wisdom, has 2 versions of odbcad32. A 32 bit and a 64 bit. They are both named odbcad32.exe.

It gets better. They put the 32 bit odbcad32.exe in the syswow64 directory. They put the 64 bit odbcad32.exe in the system32 directory. 32 bit apps will pick up the 32 bit registry setting and 64 bit will pick up the 64 bit registry setting. system32 comes before syswow64 in the system path so the 64bit software runs before the 32 bit software.

So, when I manually ran odbcad32.exe in the syswow64 directory, I was able to configure my connections and everything worked hunky dory. I know have a shortcut to syswow64\odbcad32.exe on my desktop for working with 32 bit databases.

I wonder how stable the system would be if syswow64 was in the path before system32? I don't plan to find out.

"ODBC;DSN=MS Access Database;DBQ=D:\Acces7dat\STOCKS.mdb;DefaultDir=D:\Acces7dat;DriverId=25;FIL=MS Access;MaxBufferSize=2048;PageTim" _

All this works fine for the last three years until I have installed Windows 7 64 bit . Googling the problem found that I have to run the Windows/SysWOW64/obdcad32.exe file . Doing this appears the ODBC Data Source Admiinstrator with the tabs :
User DSN , System DSN , File DSN , Drivers , Tracing , Connection Pooling and About , and I can't configure all this in order to create a ODBC connection . First , is this the correct way to solve the problem and second how to setup the ODBC Data Source Admiinstrator under all these tabs ? Any help ? thanks in advance.

I've been struggling the whole day trying to find a solution.

But I can't disable it as my customers have it usually enabled.
How can my application be allowed to create MySQL ODBC System DSNs and as a "normal" user?

and I have installed it logged as "Administrator".
(I also installed my application logged as "Administrator").

so that the "Drivers" tab is properly populated, including "MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver".

A:Windows 7 - MySQL ODBC System DSN creation

Most likely yes, UAC is the cause of the problem. Changing system DSNs naturally requires administrator privileges and therefore CANNOT be done by normal users, UAC or not (UAC makes this worse by converting admins to normal users under the covers). But it's the normal, expected behavior, as regular applications aren't supposed to messing with global DSNs, and only elevated ones are allowed. Respecting that is the whole point of the admin/regular user distinction. You app seems to be abusing its administrative rights on pre-UAC systems.

First, as a side note, I think using DSNs is a bad programming practice, as it ties the database access to something not entirely manageable by the app itself. I would store the server/database/user/password somewhere else, where you know, and build a connection string from it at runtime and use that to connect, therefore forgetting the problems of DSNs. Such refactoring may be easy or complicated, depending how is the program made, but in the long run I think it's the best solution.

If you want to continue use DSNs, then at some point you must elevate the app to allow such change. I guess that the DSN is changed from a configuration screen somewhere where the user chooses the database, then the whole program simply uses that.
The idea is to create a second executable program and manifest it as "require administrator" and make that program make the changes, after UAC prompt. The main one can call that second passing the data t... Read more

Hi All,

Hope you guys are doing well.
I got a problem when I install my application on Windows 7 and later version.
See the description :
I am using some third party ODBC driver. By using SQLDriversW( ) API I am trying to read the properties.
Here i am using FileUsage
param to do some action. In older version of windows (XP/Server 2003) my application works. Looks like in older version, the SQL API doens't contain FileUsage
value in its payload. That is why my code always picks default value.
Whereas in later wondows(Win7 and Win10) it contains the value in output payload.
I am suspection that SQLDriversW( )
API doesn't return FileUsage string in older version. As per my investigation I am suspecting it is due to the upgrade of MDAC 2.8 to WDAC XX version.
Please help me to solve this problem.

So I'm attempting to help someone fix their laptop. When he has his path as the following, one program he uses works, and the other does not:

If he swaps the first two entries, like so:

Then the program that did not work before works, the program that did work before, works no longer. To clarify, they begin asking for the paths to their databases.

I know that this is because the PATH uses the first folder it finds with an identically named file. What I don't know is how I can either A.) Circumvent that behavior or B.) Reconfigure one of these programs to go directly to the folder in question instead of referring to the PATH variables to locate it's resources. He's running Windows 7 enterprise x64.

You'll definitely need more RAM when running VMs. You have the minimum of 2GB for the 64-bit version of Windows. Server would be an option but the system requirements aren't much different.

Usually running VMs requires additional RAM for the version of the OS in use. Some versions of Linux can run on 512MB.

Hello all,

Has anyone had any problems with virtualBox running on windows 8 pro 64bit. I first installed it 2 weeks ago and I had no problems.

At the weekend I decided to set up my virtual machines from my Vista install and some of the older ones didn't work so I decided to uninstall and reinstall VirtualBox.

I checked that the version I had was still the latest version and reinstalled it.

Last night I had problems with my computer hanging at the windows 8 desktop screen for 2-5 minutes before I could open Internet explorer straight after boot up. This was with VirtualBox not running so I presume it's one of the drivers causing the problem.

It seems strange that it was ok until I reinstalled it.

I'm not sure weather to reinstall it again or wait for another update, anyone else using it?

A:Oracle VirtualBox on windows 8

The latest version should work fine. Just make sure VT-x (Hardware Virtualization) is enabled in the BIOS.
Without that, I had some issues on i7 and besides there were glitches on dual cores as well.
Once I had a crash on the VM Manager but didn't happened again. I even tested a custom build of VBox OSE and worked pretty well.

If you're using VBox on Win8 Pro then you'll need to make sure Hyper-V is disabled from the OS features.
After all this and you still have issues, you could give VMware Player a try which is also free for personal VM usage.
It is very stable (I don't work for VMware) and didn't crashed so far (VT-x also has to be enabled when available in BIOS or CPU).

VMware Player: Run Windows 8, Chrome OS on a Virtual PC

VMware Player - Install Windows 8

But VirtualBox was tested on 3 pc's in my case and it should work fine even on Win8 (the latest of course, VBox 4.2.x).
You'll better install the VBox extension pack as well.

Good luck

I've just installed Oracle 9 on my home PC and it seems to have affected the running of Windows XP and the Internet.

When I turn my PC on it takes a very long time to load all the initial settings in order for me to start using the PC. I can't believe that my computer is not powerful enough for Oracle as I have a fairly newish PC with a Pentium 4 - 2.9Ghz with 1 gig of RAM.

Only one other person has access to my PC, ( a family member ), and that is only as a "guest" account. I want to know whether or not they may have installed this, and if so, why? I don't want to ask them, ( obviously ). That's why I'm asking for your help here. Thank you very much..... aviation1972

In SqlDeveloper, my oracle connections were deleted after updating from windows 8.1 pro to Windows 10.

However, I updated another computer( Windows 7 ) to Windows 10, my oracle connections in SqlDeveloper
were kept.

I hope this helps someone else.

I apologize if I'm in the wrong location for this question. Please direct me to the correct one if I am. Thanks!

I have to backup an Oracle 8i database using only the Windows 2000 server backup utility. Does anyone know what directories would need to be included? And are there any Operating System directories that would need backing up at the same time?
