Want to make YOGA 2 PRO internal display use 2560x1440 60

Q: Want to make YOGA 2 PRO internal display use 2560x1440 60

Hi Everyone:

So I want to set my Yoga 2 Pro QHD+ (3200x1800) screen to 2560x1440 and am having some issues. windows will let me use for 16:9 3200x1800, 2048x1152, and 1080p. Trying to set a custom resolution in intel control panel gives me an exceeded bandwidth message with the HD 4400. I am using drivers and I have researched the issue but they always seem to point to using the hdmi out for a dual-link dvi display. One person on superuser had a similar question but I don't think it had a solution that worked I could follow. Can't create custom resolution using intel custom mode app in windows 8.1 - Super User

So does anyone know of a regedit to make this work or if my display can not support this resolution since the way the pixels are laid out or something. I think 3200 is to much for this gpu to handle well but love the real estate, and 2560x1440 is I think the sweet spot for 13 inch displays atm. My desktop res is also this resolution so I feel right at home.

Thanks again

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi All,I've had this system for a while - Came with Win8.1Model 20266 About 2 weeks after the warranty expired, the internal display just stopped workingI can get to an external display; however, would like to start using it as a laptop again External Display WorksCamera WorksIf I touch the LCD screen the touch capabilities also workSomething that just hit me is that I have not tried any of the other capabilities (tablet mode)The system does not even recognize an internal display I've tried updating everything and still not workingTried to do a system restore - didn't work either Can that display really have gone bad that quick?

My Thinkpad Yoga 15 has a problem, which may or may not be related to the BIOS update recently performed. When booting, the bootup screen only appears on an external monitor via the HDMI output. When performing the hardware tests in the BIOS, tests are done on the HDMI-connected display, the internal display does not seem to be recognized. I verified this using both Linux and Windows. It does not seem to be a hardware failure; I have been able to get the display on the internal LCD a few times, by powering down the laptop, holding the power button for about 20 seconds, then powering back on while pressing F1. The laptop will then function for a while, but loses its display after coming out of sleep. Needless to say, this is unworkable. Does anyone have any tips on how this could be fixed in a more permanent fashion or any indication to cause? BIOS does not allow me to turn off NVIDIA, or its opposite, to enable it exclusively. I also tried different drivers, from both Lenovo as well as NVIDIA and Intel, but to no avail. Any pointers appreciated.

Hello, have been using HP stuff for 20 years now and the only thing they are missing is something like Yoga X1. And I am ready to switch. However, since I don't have good knoweledge about Lenovo product (before HP, I was using IBM Thinkpads), I may have question or two related to this Yoga X1 Gen3. First one is about resolution. Options are 2560x1440 and 1920x1080. This Yoga will be connected to docking station and two monitors (and I will put another questions related to this) and I would like to get option from real users of 2560x1440 whether is good to jump to this resolution. I am using now 1920x1080 notebook from HP (workstation 5 years old).  Please advice. Thank you, ImaDam

As in my subject, can the Yoga 720 (15-inch) be hooked up to a 2560x1440 @ 144Hz External Monitor? I understand that I have to get a usb-c to DisplayPort adaptor to get it to work. However, I am not sure of the DisplayPort specifications in this Thunderport 3 port of Yoga 720 as for a laptop to run 144Hz on an external monitor, it has to be at least DisplayPort 1.2.

A:Yoga 720 - 15IKB: Can it be hooked up to a 2560x1440 @ 144Hz External Monitor?

I'm not an expert with monitors, but I'd check the monitor's specs to see what kind of inputs it'll work with. I would imagine the monitor will upscale or adapt to the input signal. It'd be silly to make a monitor that wouldn't work with anything the installed base of computers can throw at it.

Hello All - This seems like such a simple question, but there is a ton of disinformation online, which has been recently exaggerated by the displayport standard & cables that support 4K I want to make sure my laptop can support the new 2K displays before I spend the money on them. I have an X1 Carbon, and the mini displayport is marked as DP++, which means it supports dual-link displays, which means it supports up to 2560x1440. Which happens to be the resolution of the new 2K monitors I would like to buy. Two Questions: 1) What cable do I need to go from my mini DP++ to the monitor's "dual-link DVI-D" connection? I've done a ton of searching, and this type of cable doesn't seem to exist.  There is so much information online about people paying $100 or more for active cables, but that's not supposed to be necessary if your laptop supports DP++. 2) I currently run 3x1080p displays just fine with my X1 by using the premium usb 3 dock (1x using the displayport, and 2x on the dock's DVI connections.  You think it can run 2x2K (2560x1440) displays?  Aggregate pixels for my current setup is little over 6M and the 2x2K displays would be a little over 7M. So it doesn't seem like all that large of a jump. Thanks All,

Hi! I've just purchased a P50 ThinkPad, docking station and a Eizo ColorEdge 27'' display (2560x1440 resolution) connected through DisplayPort. I'm having trouble using the dock properly as the screen is not reckognized at powerup. I have to open the laptop display, and use the Windows display setup to force the computer to use the Eizo display. Of course this works OK, but it is annoying and shouldn't be like this. I just want to put the closed lapto in the dock, turn it on and use the Eizo as primary screen. Anyone has a solution to this?

I have a failing seagate 3TB HDD (am getting cycle redundancy errors) I would like to put in the PC as an internal WITHOUT losing any files. How would I go about that, as when I have done it before it has asked me to format drive.

Ending up fixing it, it got to 73% on chkdsk with a errors and stopped but I then did a /f and it fixed the problem.

Hey people,

So here's my issue, recently took out my laptop HDD and formatted it, NTFS format, and stored stuff on it. Now when I place that in an enclosure and want to use it as an external HDD drive, it doesnt pick up the device.

Through Diskpart I am able to give the drive a letter and access it, but when I "Safely" remove device, the Drive letters remain....

1St problem, Do I need to do anything special to make the Device a Plug and Play ?
2nd Question, am currently consulting google on the matter, HOW do I remove the Drive Letters that I assigned through Diskpart from "My Computer"

A:Make Internal HDD to External

Diskpart isn't the easiest way to do so, and I hope that didn't do anything to the drive. The easiest is to assign the drive a letter in Disk Management. But, to back up a bit, is it recognized in Disk Management, first.

Why would you be wanting to do this?
What is the nature of the external IP address? Is it a dynamic IP address - if so you'll have some considerable fun running to keep up!
A little more info wouldn't go amiss - nature of external IP address, type of router (NAT, not NAT)? And again, what is it that needs the two addresses to be the same?

Hi All,

Please can someone help.

I have a second HDD that - at the moment - is just sitting in my computer (not in any cradle or anything - as I have a Dell Dimension, and they don't like you adding extra bits to their systems) I am thinking of buying one of the HDD cases so that I can turn it into an External drive.

My question is:

I also have an Internal DVD writer, which - again being a Dell computer - I cannot install into my computer (as the drive is wider than the space to put it in the computer). Is it possible to get a case similar to the HDD one to turn it into an External drive (I would buy an External writer, but I haven't got the funds at the moment)

If anyone has any ideas or knows of somewhere I can buy one of these, please let me know.

I have been wanting to get an external hard drive to back up data for both my desktop and my wife's laptop, but they're just so doggone expensive. A friend told me that I can buy an internal hard drive with some sort of a case, get a PCI card with an external SATA hookup, and I'm good. I figure this would be cheaper (and a smaller profile to boot). I've already got Acronis True Image so I don't need any backup software. What do I need to look for when I'm shopping for stuff? I'm looking for at least 300 GB

A:Can I make an INTERNAL hard drive EXTERNAL?

Yeah just buy an external HD enclosure and bingo instant portable HD. Most of them use PATA IDE HDs and USB to connect to a PC.

For some reason windows 8 always makes my comp fan go crazy, is thus normal ?

A:Does windows 8 make anyone else's internal laptops fans go

What do you mean by crazy? I can hear mine speed up in response to higher CPU loads, it will become audible and go silent again within 30-60 seconds or so, or stay running longer if something intensive is running long term. IE, it responds quickly to changing system load. To me this seems normal.

My D: drive is only used for backups (mostly) and I want to have it spin down when it has been idle for a while. If I use Power Options that would sort of work as the system disk isn't idle for long, except when the PC is unattended. But that causes one of my external drives to vanish, so it's not a good option.
Back to focus: make D: spin down after 20 minutes idle, leave other disk power settings unchanged. I think there is a registry tweak but I can't find the article about it.
The PC is on 8.1 update 1.

A:How can I make a selected internal HDD spin down when idle

Did you look in Control Panel, Power Options? I haven't checked but there may be a power setting for each HDD versus all HDDs.

Today I installed windows 7 on my laptop. After installation of drivers and updates, I found the wireless adapter was not
enabled by default. Then I checked the device manager to make sure that my driver worked. I didn't find any question marks
or exclamation marks in device manager. And then I tried a restart of my computer. But the adapter still stayed disabled.
Then I tried pressing the combination of fn + f12, finally the adapter came to alive. And I could successfully connect to the
router and surf the Internet, but after another reboot, the adapter didn't show up automatically, instead I had to press that
combination of fn + f12 again. Before this installation, my computer usually worked automatically with wireless adapter
loaded on boot. So I wanna know how I could make the internal wireless adapter be enabled on boot without turn it on

A:How to make the internal wireless adapter be enabled on boot?

Have a look inside the BIOS settings. I believe the button to get to the BIOS while the PC is booting up is F10 .

I'm writing this post because this was asked so many times over, but nobody seems to have come up with a good answer. People suggested some trials of paid programs, but that's not really an everyman solution. I don't know on how many machines my workaround will work, depends on the audio chip.

I'm going to tell you how to do this in foobar2000. My system is Win7.

0) I think that this will work only if you see something like this in your Playback devices (right-click windows audio icon & select from menu to launch it):

So if the headphone output is not "Ready" when nothing is plugged into it, you will maybe be able to use the HDMI output if you feel adventurous, or for that matter any output that you have. You possibly have no idea why I'm talking about that, but this will be clear after reading through the rest of my little manual.

1) download & install foobar2000 here: http://www.foobar2000.org/download
play around with it of you don't know the player.

2) download & install the latest ASIO4ALL here: http://www.asio4all.com/
leave all install options default.

3) download ASIO support for foobar2000: http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_out_asio
double-click it, fb2k will install it automatically.

4) go to foobar2000 file->preferences->output->asio. Check if asio4all is visible at the top list. You can use the x64 driver (requires foobar2000 restart)

Yes, you can take that hard drive out of the 2k machine and read it just fine in Vista. What you can't do is take your OS drive from 2k and boot another machine with it, but I don't think that is what you were asking.

While doing some minor unrelated repair on my Yoga 900 I noticed a few extra ports on the motherboard. On of them (JP7) has a connector soldered in (looks like those for cooling fans, five pins) but nothing connected to it and two others (JP10, JP15) without anything. I'm curious whether I can connect anything to them, who knows where could I find some specifications for the motherboard? Maybe some people working at Lenovo can shed some light on this? I'd really prefer to have some information before I start poking around with a multimeter or something. Thanks.  Photo of the ports (sorry I couldn't figure out )how to embed the image). (I know that anything like this voids your warranty. Besides, it's possible to destroy your motherboard and other expensive parts by doing any unauthorized alterations or repairs. Please do not consider anything in this topic as an advice of any kind, you're doing everything on your own risk.)

This is not the first time this has happened, where having opened the laptop to tablet mode, a cable appears to have come loose. This means that the laptop no longer recognises that the laptop is back to laptop mode, so it doesn't reactivate the keyboard. Lenovo last time fixed this saying it was a fault with the assembly, but it has happened again, this time out of the 12 month warranty, and 3 months since it last happened. I really expected better quality of manufacture and the repair seems to have been very poor. This is my work laptop and the only computer I got, and any time spent without it is crippling to my work. I am currently using an external keyboard, which means working on the move is very inconvenient. I have a YOGA 51014ISK Is there a way for me to ask Lenovo to fix their repair mistake? I seem unable to find a proper way to contact/complain regarding this. I am not happy that I have to pay for repairs again for the exact same issue so quickly after the last "fix".  Otherwise, is there a repair guide I can follow to fix this myself? I didn't see one, and I'll need to reconnect the keyboard wire inside. Thanks for your time.

Hello SMAGThanks for using the Lenovo forums.Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal If you`re able to, try to download the Video and Chipset drivers for the unit from the support page.
See if this will make any difference.

About 48 hours ago, I spilled coffee (w/ cream and sugar) on my keyboard while the power was on. I immediately turned off the laptop, wiped it dow with napkins, and turned to laptop upside down to enable draining. This model laptop has an internal battery for those unfamiliar, so I unfortunately could not remove that.  I left the laptop in a position for where air could flow through it (aided be a fan), and left it in such a way for ~40 hours.  This morning, I finally gained access to laptop tools, so that I could disassemble the the laptop and clean what I could with 91% isopropyl alcohol (not the ideal 99% I see recommended, but I don't think this is a major issue). There was residue visible on the metal beneath the keyboard, as well as a small amount on the battery. All of which was cleaned off with cotton ear swabs dipped in a bit of that rubbing alcohol. I reassembled the laptop, gave it a couple hours to let the small amount of rubbing alcohol to dry off, and tried booting up. Fans spin loudly for ~30 seconds, screen remains blank, no beeps or whatever emit from the laptop, and the power light remains on w/out blinking. The fans and laptop itself turned off after that 30 second period. I then tried hitting the "Novo Button" or "One Key Rescue", and this resulted in a blue menu popping up allowing me to start laptop in one of 4 modes. I have a Toshiba satellite a500.

The display stopped working about a week ago, and had not shown any previous signs of failing before then. I simply shut it down, and the next time it turned it on the screen had no display.

It can't detect it's LCD screen in any display options, and all brightness options have disappeared, as if it doesn't exist at all. There's no display on the screen, but other than that it still runs normally. For now, the laptop is only detecting the external monitor I have connected, which it designates as the primary display, rather than a secondary one.

However, I'm positive that it's not a hardware failure (for a weird reason I won't go into..), any advice on how to fix this, assuming that the problem is that the laptop isn't detecting the internal display? ( and not that it's a loose cable or a faulty screen..)

Hi community, we are using several Thinkpads for years mostly without issues. But for a while now we have to experience issues with our T540p's in combination with pro and ultimate docks. When this error occurs it also does not matter if I connect an external display to the T540p directly, I still cannot see anything. To set the internal display to be the main display before undocking does not change the behavior anyway. If I put the T540p into the docking again, mostly everything is fine. Hey guys, so i'm running B10074 on my laptop , and I connected my external display to it as well as my external keyboard and mouse at my desk so I could sit there and do the setup etc without moving all of that out of the way. I had the laptop lid shut and off to the side while I was doing this. Then, I shut the laptop down, unplugged all the external peripherals, and turned it on again. It went through the windows boot sequence with the spinning circles, then black screen. After 20 minutes of frustration, I realised that the laptop would show a login prompt only when I plug in the external monitor BEFORE i start it, and only if the laptop is closed while it is booting (when the lid is closed during boot, the Dell logo and spinning circles come up on the external display)

I further figured out that in Control Panel, it only displays the external display, its like the computer doesn't even recognise the internal display anymore. I dont know why that would be since when I first booted it up and installed drivers, I was using the internal display and everything was working fine.
Any help appreciated as well as pointers on not running into this again

Hi, My Thinkpad Twist does not display anything when turned on except on external monitors. The Device manager shows a greyed out internal display icon, says it is not connected. 1. There appears to be absolutely no LED backlighting working 4. Is there a possible fix for this and if so is it the power cables or some physical problem with the ribbon cables OR is it definitely a new display that is needed using existing cables? Thanks in advance Andrew

A:Thinkpad Twist s230U no internal display, works on...

The last 4 pins on the connector are unused I have determined so it is not the power ribbon cable connector. I found two wires fractured in the LCD ribbon cable right at the point where it feeds through the twist mount. I expect this could be a common problem after use. After repairing these two wires it did not fix the screen problem. I have ordered a replacement LDVS ribbon cable and will report back once I have replaced that.

I've seen many posts on this similar issue.  Is this just a defect that cannot be resolved.  If so, issue a refund and this will be returned.
And Yes, I've updated every driver in the order that was recommended by the DELL technician and they also did the same.  It has gotten more erratic and ridiculous that I have to pay this much money for a laptop that is unstable.  Help me escalate this to Mr. Dell and get this working or refund me.
