Unable to Remove Dragon Branch Ads

Q: Unable to Remove Dragon Branch Ads

I have run AVG, Kaspersky, Bitdefender, Adaware, Malwarebytes, Hitman Pro, Ccleaner and Cloud System Booster. A few of these found files in C:\Users\Derrick\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Storage called https_dragonbranch-a.akamaihd.net_0.localstorage-journal and https_dragonbranch-a.akamaihd.net_0.localstorage. Both files have been deleted but they just came back. It came with a 'free' facebook video downloader a few days ago.

Preferred Solution: Unable to Remove Dragon Branch Ads

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Unable to Remove Dragon Branch Ads

I should also mention that it's not in my add/remove programs list or chrome extensions. Tried all the 'guides' I could find, none worked. They all seem to recommend Spyhunter 4, which is suspicious to me.

Hi,
The backstory is... I clicked on a close pop-up X on B&H Photo's website and Chrome was quickly covered in ads. I had Kaspersky Internet Security 2015 on my pc but it didn't detect anything before then. I tried system restore to the day before but it didn't solve the issue. After upgrading to KIS 2016 it found Dragon Branch and treated it. After a reboot it was back.

So I went into safe mode, disconnected from the internet and uninstalled it (it looked like it was installed with another program back in April), reset my browsers to their defaults, deleted temp internet files and emptied the recycling bin. I thought it was gone for a while, but then I noticed that files were missing from at least one of my internal hard drives. The files would be gone in a folder, but sub-folders remained (but were empty). For other files, I could see them but they won't open. While others were unaffected.

I saw on one of the forum pages to rebuild the search index. I started that but after 12 hrs, it was still less than 1/3 the way through (I have a lot of photo files). So I paused that and ran Malwarebytes - it found DragonBranch.A, OpenCandy and AceWebExtension.A. It treated them and after a reboot, rerunning Malwarebytes didn't find anything.

I then ran sfc /scannow - it found corrupt files but couldn't repair them all. So I ran it two more times (the post suggested that it may take 3 or more runs). At this point, I went to see if the files were back, but the hard drive ... Read more

A:1st files gone, now the drive - cleared Dragon Branch & ran sfc

Hi all,
Looks like they were two separate events happening at the same time. I starting going down that line of thought thinking the hard drive simply failed. But on some reboots I get an error message that no keyboard is found, even with a usb keyboard. I read in a different post that that is a sign that the motherboard is failing. When I plug the usb keyboard into a usb slot on a pci card, there is no error.
I had tried reboots before and it made no difference with the current issue. Then, when I thought I was taking out the defective drive just now, I took out the boot drive instead. A reboot quickly pointed that out. When I put it back in, the missing drive was back!
So, I'm now thinking its a motherboard issue. I'm copying the files across to another drive, as I type, in case it is the drive and I got a lucky window of access. Its probably time to build a new PC.
Thanks

So I downloaded DaemonTools Lite for free and went for the express install (I realise now that this was a massive mistake). My computer now can't search on google without a bunch of ads (Dragon Branch), and I can't click anywhere on any webpage without being redirected to a site asking me to install malware removal software.
It's taken me several attempts just to make this post, and I need this computer to get coursework done for university, I have deadlines coming up next Friday and everything takes twice as long as it should to do. Does anybody know what I should do? I don't even know what information to provide here.

I went into PC World today, where I'd bought a Lenovo G50 laptop a month or so ago, and a week ago Dragon V. 13 as it still wasn't picking up any dictation at all. They downloaded the latest driver from Conexant but still no luck the guy saying that unfortunately the laptop simply wasn't up to it and fair enough refunded me the cost of Dragon.

Not a techie at all so excuse the possibly silly question but is there a way to install a mike that would work or some sort of work around that might do the trick instead....?

Thanks

Hi! I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem... I've been trying to backup my computer to an external drive and I keep getting the error code: 0x8078002A. I've tried numerous times in the past few weeks with no success and the same error code each time. My laptop is a Dell XPS 17 (L702X, Early 2011) with an Intel® Core™ i7-2760QM CPU @ 2.40GHz processor with 8.00 GB of installed memory (RAM). The Windows edition I'm running is Windows 7 Professional. The size of the backup that I'm trying to run is 327.56 GB (and I know there is plenty of space on the external drive to accommodate the backup). The external drive I'm trying to back up the laptop to is a WD (Western Digital) My Book external hard drive that is a 4 TB hard drive. It currently has 1.88 TB free of 3.63 TB according to its properties. I recently performed an "Error-Checking" run with the external hard drive (by clicking on 'Properties' and then the tab that said 'Tools' and then 'Error Checking' and it went through that process and fixed whatever errors it might have found. I had read on some other forum that I should try doing this to see if that would make the backup work, but it still won't work and I'm still getting the same error code.

I read on another forum that you could possibly be getting the error code 0x8078002A if you had a virus or malware or some other type of problem.  I'm not sure what else to try or do...  I do run Super Anti-Spyware Free Edition regularly as ... Read more

A:Is OOP a branch to nowhere?

I dissagree in some part.

To say OOP as a whole is a failure i tihnk would be over generalising things. In some respects there has been no visible use for it. But in terms of some software devlopment it has been a vast improvement.

For example since switching all of my PHP web applications to a OOP scheme has enabled me to create moremodular designs capable of greater flexibility and scalability. Also i have noticed significant speed and efficiency increases over traditional code schemes.

Hi

I want to connect my main office with 5 branch offices, all branches have windows 2000 or 2003 server, wich would be the best way (and economic) to do this...

-Via Sofware (ISA Server or Windows) or
-Via Hardware ($$$)

What would be the mains problems of doing it via software???

A:Connect Branch Office Via VPN

The way I do it for a chain of doctors offices is through linksys VPN routers. Yes there are better ways, but we run a practice management software on a unix server using an emulation software so we don't send and recieve a lot of data. But the linksys VPN routers also use netbios so the machine son the other end are in your network neighborhood. It just depends on what you need to do over that VPN connection. Oh, and you need a static WAN IP address from your ISP at the main location.

Hi all,

I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, which uses HD Graphics 4400. I'm running Windows 10 64-bit. I noticed the drivers in the Windows Update channel are dated newer than what is on Intel's site and the version on my system is 20.19.15.4352. The version on Intel's site for the 4th Gen is 15.40.10.64.4300 and some older versions on my system are 10.18.10.4xxx.

What's the deal with these version numbers? More importantly, which ones do I use?

First thing, I know next to nothing about computers.
We have a problem with our monitor switching off after start-up. The only way we can turn on the computer is by disabling the video card (Radeon x1300 pro).

Last thing that we did before the computer stopped working was to load suggested Windows Updates.
"Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - August 2009 (KB890830)
Update for Windows Mail Junk E-mail Filter [August 2009] (KB905866)
Security Update for Windows Vista (KB973540)
Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB972691)
Security Update for Windows Vista (KB973507, KB971657, KB971557, KB956744)"

We have tried updating the Radeon Video card which is now updated.
We tried re-installing the Viewsonic monitor wizard cd and it said that we had to manually install a component (display optimization files)for Vista but then it wouldn't complete the installation. The viewsonic file in program files is there but empty.

Now I've found that the Monitor device in Device Manager is gone so I can't try to enable or change anything to do with monitors.
Help!!

A:No monitor branch in device manager

I have no access to another monitor to see if the problem is with the monitor itself.

Just wondering if I should spend the $200 on a new monitor or getting the computer fixed by tech guys?

Our company has a few branches located in the Midwest. One of the branches has a bad connection through the local ISP and they seem to lose it a lot.

They were considering getting a cable back up connection because right now they use a telephone based DSL.

I was wondering what kind of equipment do I need to make a VPN tunnel, that way I dont need to VPN each individual computer. If someone is a PRO in VPN please do let me know what is all required ie router, switch etc to have like a VPN box to avoid VPNing individual computers and the VPN will run over the cable internet backup.

Hi all

I have a branch office that uses a low grade home router vpn link to connect to our main office this causes very slow response time when users are connecting to mapped drives.

Im thinking of going the rodc route further down the road when we go to server 2008 to improve log on times, but a rodc to my understanding does not have anything to do with the mapped drives as its not a full copy of the main office DC.

For now id like to speed up the access times to the mapped drives for the branch office users, Im musing over having them stored locally on a pc hooked onto their network and then somehow have the changes mirrored to the main office.

Anyone got an idea?

Thanks for reading

A:Branch office slow link

What are the specifics of your branch office's internet connection? What is slow for the users with mapped drives? Is it mounting the network share and/or the actual file transfers? What router are we talking about?

I hope you're aware that many low grade VPN routers suffer drastic performance issues when they have to do any type of encrypted traffic. You can have a VPN router perform at say around 20 to 30 Mbps of routed throughput but only do about 1 to 2 Mbps when moving data across a VPN tunnel. Also, you may have to manually adjust your MTU settings on both ends of the VPN tunnel to account for fragmentation and overhead of the VPN tunnel.

Depending on the speed of your remote branch Internet connection, it may be worth the expense to upgrade the router to see if this helps. It'll be cheaper than the other alternative which is to implement a WAN acceleration product.

If Win10 doesn't support this does anyone know of a utility that can replicate this feature? I have lots of small offices on thin WANs that will need to print and I would like to get rid of local print servers when we move to Office 365.

I'm doing a clean install of Windows 7 and, at some point, plan to branch off from Administrator and create a Standard User account which I will use thereafter. Many people seem to believe this is the safest way to run - though in the past I've always just done the simple thing and run as Admin all the time. If you think this is a bad idea, point me to a link or tell me why. I'd really appreciate it.

Otherwise, my question is this: When do I create and make the switch over to the new Standard (non-Admin) account? Right after I've install W7 and all the drivers and all the updates, OR later after I've installed Office, Photoshop, and all my various utilities? Not having done this before, it's unclear to me whether everything I install with just the Admin account will be visible with the Standard User account. It'd be nice to make the switch AFTER I've installed essentially everything I plan to use so that all the software would be accessible to both Admin and Standard user. Does that make sense?

You'd think Microsoft would have a simple discussion about this on their website since they really push not running all the time as admin. Perhaps I'm just not finding it, though I thin... Read more

A:On a new install, When do I branch off to Standard User?

The standard user account will constantly be badgering you for the admin password to install apps and do various things.

I would at least suggest creating a second user account with admin privileges, this way if there is a problem, you can always return to the clean main admin account to troubleshoot and attempt resolution.

If you are the only person using the machine and plan on installing an antivirus application I really don't see the harm in using a user account with admin privs, I would not use the primary admin account though.

I want to have it so, users in the new office van VPN on to the 2K3 small business server and operate as if they were sitting in the main office.

What is the best setup/good piece of kit to use for this purpose?

I take it I will need a VPN router and some VPN client software on the PCs?

My son has a business with about a dozen Windows 10 workstations. So far, he has done well with a common home-type router and a sixteen-port switch. He blocks sites in the router's blocked list; but, he has discovered his Netgear router has no provision for blocking https sites.

Time for a new router and he has asked my help in selecting one.

I Googled and found there are several kinds of routers and I have no idea of their features and which type is best for his network. Of the Branch, Edge and Core Routers, which one is the common home-type? If none are, what should I look for in a home-type router for his business?

Hi All

Using Windows XP Home and having installed SP2 a few weeks ago, this problem has appeared during the last few days : the branch indicators on the Favorites menu in IE disappear.

MS Help and Support suggests this may happen when using a colour scheme that uses extra large fonts. But I don't -- I use the Windows Classic Scehme with normal fonts. Have also tried it out with the Windows Standard Scheme without any luck.

The branch indicators just appear and disappear.

Any help appreciated.

I am running Win7/Pro x64.

I recently managed to unwittingly move a large branch (multiple levels of branching and many files) into my "My Documents" folder. I would like to undo what I did, but I have no idea how I did it. My guess is that I made a massive misuse of drag-and-drop

Said another way, I had a directory (very large, multi-branched folder) called "MyImageFiles" at the same level on my data drive as "My Documents." Now it is buried one level down in "My Documents."

What is the simplest way to undo this?

Thanks

Premise of this thread: ignatzatsonic brought up the i7 6700K and said it may be better for a workstation than the i7 5820K, referred me here for more specialized help.

So what do you all think? For an audio production workstation, would the i7 5820K be a good fit? Would Avid Pro Tools be able to utilize all 6 cores? If not, the 6700K may be a better fit when it comes out. But I would definitely like some input from people who know the software well may be able to tell me how it interacts with the CPU and whether I should go the quad core route or the 6-core route.

The 6700K does score higher on the PCMark, which is good for the creative side of things. But I want to know if it'll really be better in the long run. Of course, this depends on price as well (dollars per performance vs dollars per longevity).

Peace.

I have a Sonar (Platinum) studio.

My recommendation when someone asks me about computers is to buy "overkill" or as much as your wallet can stand. This holds true for a DAW workstation or any PC. Thus if it were me and $$ is no object I would go with the 6700.

A good place to discuss recording hardware is the www.gearslutz.com forum.

I restarted my computer due to running slowly, when it was starting back up, it prompted me to either "Run Startup Repair - recommended" or "Start Windows Normally." When opting the latter, the screen would go black, then go back to the same prompt. When selecting the startup repair, the screen goes to a blue screen with squiggly white lines with a hummingbird and a branch on it (wtf?!) and stays there for a long, long time. Is this repairing? How long do I wait? Is there anything I can do?

I've also tried restarting and trying F8 to get to Last Good Configuration, but that doesn't work either Please help!

Blue screen is a screen for when your computer crashes but no hummingbird. You can check by going to c:\windows\minidump and seeing if there are files with the extension *.dmp. If so upload them to us.

No DMP files included in upload please try this method

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The real problems began when I tried to load Avast. Now when I turn it on it goes to a blue screen with the white bird and green olive branch. There is nothing to click on. I tried pressing F8 while turning on and I get to the black screen where I can choose safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc..It doesn't matter what I choose, it always ends up at the same blue screen with the bird.
I can't even see the system info to see if it's 32 or 64 bit. I know I need this to see which Windows Restore disk to create. I'm thinking it's 64 but not 100% sure.
When it's been sitting awhile, a dialog box comes open. I took a pic of it:

I've learned now heavily about the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. I've also learned about the USMT, which I've not yet used in practice, but learned the basics of in the .inf version. Studying that was how I was able to learn this deep into the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. Basically, the two have similar, but not exactly the same configuration.

Now here I'll post the configuration for the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. I took what I found already there, and was adding features to it. I didn't create this from scratch, and it would've been silly to, as it's a configuration file.

My issue is that whenever I'm saving settings, anytime I tell it to save something from HKEY_CURRENT_USER in the registry, it does not work. I was needing to know if anyone knows why, so I can correct it please.

Hello all. I'd like to start by saying I'm a big fan of this site, it has been helpful many times in the past.
A little bit of background on me. I have been running a small on call/on site computer repair service for a few years and have some CompTia certs. I am a Moderator for a forum at a well respected and large fps game site, so i do truly understand what you guys deal with and appreciate all the time and effort.

This is the first thing I've run across that I have failed to fix/remove

Ok on to my issue. I did get a version of the '11 security tools virus (kids get on this pc sometimes lol)
I was able to remove it and all the BHO's that went with it using rkill/combofix, HijackThis and Malwarebytes. But one thing that remains in my cp. It calls itself aaa and uses the java icon (publisher bbb comments ccc). I have hit a wall trying to figure out what this exactly is. I have nothing "going wrong" on this pc, but it still bothers me and can't be good.
When i try to uninstall it simply says it can't.
I have tried searching these forums and doing what another thread suggested, which is pretty much the same things i did to rid myself of the virus in the first place, but the person infected never responded and the thing remains.
So I am asking for some help on this.

My stats;
win xp pro.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ | Socket AM2 | 3013/201mhz
FireFox 3.6.16
Avira AV

Many thanks for your time.

If Add/Remove Programs is showing an entry but the program/folder has been removed, then its likely an orphaned entry in the Windows registy. Orphaned entries can be removed by going the registry but a much safer and easier way to do this is to download and use a third party program like MyUninstaller or RevoUninstaller. After launching the program, right-click on the entry and choose the option to "Delete the selected entry".To fix manually in the registry, refer to:How to Manually Remove Programs from the Add/Remove Programs ListRemoving invalid entries from Add or Remove ProgramsKellys Korner: Removing Invalid Entries in the Add/Remove Programs ToolCAUTION: This step involves making changes in the registry. Always back up your registry before making any changes. If you are not familiar with working in the registry, then you should NOT attempt to make any changes on your own. Improper changes to the registry could adversely affect your computer and render it inoperable. ERUNT is an excellent free tool that allows you to to take a snapshot (backup) of your registry before making changes and restore it when needed.
