BSOD error code 116 caused by atikmpag.sys

Q: BSOD error code 116 caused by atikmpag.sys

Hi. Before this recent blue screen I've encountered, I had posted a thread before, with sgfxk64.sys causing the blue screen. Anyways, I decided for my laptop to be reformatted again and as usual, we need to find drivers for my laptop. Unfortunately, after installing the graphics driver for my system, BSODs appeared after restarting. Any suggestions or fixes that I can do for this issue? Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi

My son has an HP Pavilion s3521.uk, 32 bit running Vista SP 2.0 and OS 6_0_60002.

It has suddenly started to blue screen on startup due to the atikmpag.sys driver. No new hardware or software has been added though he thinks flash may have update earlier in the day.

I can usually get into safe mode but even that seems to be a problem now as the message 'Input not supported' in a grey box moves around the screen. This problem seems to be new - possibly due to my attempts to investigate

I have tried a system restore, uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics driver, installing a new driver from the HP site (said it was not compatible) and using a different screen altogether.

I'm sure there are more techy details you may need but i'm not sure what or how to get at them, particulary as I can no longer see his screen.

Many thanks in advance for any help you can give

Andy

Hello,

About a few months ago, I built myself my own computer, specifically for gaming. Ever since then, my computer always has errors going on. One of my main concerns that I get is when I am gaming and the BSOD appears. It always has something to do with Atikmap.sys for some reason. I have tried uninstalling amd drivers and reinstalling them. I have even tried newer versions of the drivers. Just recently I wiped my computer clean to try to see if I could fix it, but it didn't work. I have attached a dm log collector above, so you can see whats possibly causing my issues.
(P.S., I'm not sure if this has anything to do with this, but abotu once every five minutes, my screen freezes and I get a message saying, "display driver stopped responding, and has recovered." )

Thank you for all your help!,

A:BSOD When Gaming, possibly caused by atikmpag.sys

Not that it matters but what game are you playing when it bsods? So you kinda figured it out. You have tried all possible drivers and you have tried a clean windows install. Has to be the video card is malfunctioning. That is without looking at the log or anything.
Reseating it might be worth a try. Otherwise, i would start the exchange/rma process.

How you guys doing, I was sent here from my previous topic to get a deeper look into my problem. Here's the link from my previous topic explaining my problem: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic450555.html/page__pid__2676456#entry2676456

In my previous topic I was being helped to remove some malware that kept coming back all the time after being removed by Malwarebytes. My computer seems to be clean now but I was sent here to get a deeper look into why does my Norton Security Suite doesn't work on safe mode and to find out why am I getting my Blue screens with the error "atikmpag.sys" that's blocking me to log into windows normal mode. Regarding my antivirus, I installed it on another computer and I tried using it in safe mode and it doesn't seem to protect me, it can only do scans but that's it, is this attitude normal from Norton Security Suite on safe mode? And about my Blue screen error, is there a possibility that I have a hidden virus causing my ATI graphic card driver to fail? I can't log into normal mode only safe mode and I get lots of color lines(artifacts) when turning my computer on and then my computer crashes and I get the Blue screen error. Or is there a virus causing me both problems I just mentioned with my antivirus and the blue screen errors? Can someone help me take a deeper look into my computer just to make sure I don't have a virus still hidding? Any help is greatly appretiated, thanks in advance! here... Read more

A:BSOD whilst playing World of Tanks caused by atikmpag.sys

All of the dumps are 0x116 VIDEO_TDR_ERROR (Timeout Detection Recovery) which can be down to the driver, heat, power to the card, the PCI slot it's in or a bad card among other things. Your driver isn't the most recent from what I can see so we'll try that first.

Download the latest driver from here and save it to your desktop. Download DDU and follow Display Driver Uninstaller: How to use to remove all traces of your current driver. Reboot and install the downloaded driver.

I noticed my video and sound freezing and again my computer crashed giving me the same "atikmdag.sys" error. I then did some research on the error and I came to the conclusion that it was related to my video card. Many people believe it could be multiple different causes that triggers that error(failing video card, power supply, etc.) The first step i took was to update my video drivers aka CCC(Catalyst Control Center)from AMD, but the problem kept coming, and each time it was more often. Eventually I wouldn't get any sound at all, I didn't had to do anything and I would still get the blue screens with the same ... Read more

Good day.

I've got a 2-yr old laptop. When I got home last night, my brother said he couldn't play Skyrim cause it kept getting BSOD. Earlier that day, I was able to use it without any problems.

I booted the laptop and got a BSOD that says I've got an atikmpag.sys error; the display driver didn't load correctly.

Things I did:
1. I loaded Safe Mode and scanned for viruses, found nothing.
2. Looked if the file existed, I found it.
3. I tried the Last Known Configuration, but it only worked once. Later on, I kept getting BSOD.
4. My graphics drivers are up-to-date. I uninstalled it and then let Windows install the drivers. After letting it restart by itself, I was able to reach the desktop. I decided to restart it just to check if it will boot without any problems, it got BSOD again.

Right now, I'm able to run my laptop with the graphics driver disabled. I've only disabled the Mobile Intel HD Graphics but when I boot the laptop, I get a problem with my AMD Radeon HD 7450M. It says that either I don't have it installed or it's not up-to-date.

I've read that it's either a driver problem or my hardware got fried. If anyone can tell me where to look and how I'll know if the video card's broken, please do. It's a Dell Inspiron N4050.

Thank you.

I'm running a genuine MSDN copy of Windows 10 Enterprise. Recently from past month, the laptop has started behaving weirdly. Earlier the issue was that it would hang and after waiting hours I had to shut it down forcibly and then when re-starting, it would show 'lenovo' on starting and would then go blank for next 5-10 mins and then the user login page would come.
Just from the past week, I've been started getting BSOD too, the error was "DFC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION". Also to add, 50% of the times, when I login into the computer, it would be frozen state and if luckily the task manager got open, it would show disk usage as 100%!

I'm attaching the BSOD's dump file, which point that hal.dll could be at mistake. I would like you to please let me know how to fix this error!

Hello all.
I didn't know if I should post this in the Graphic Cards section or here but the frequency of BSOD made me choose this section
For about a couple of months, I have been dealing with BSOD caused by my NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M.
I know this because in the beginning of this problem, each time I tried to open a game, the computer froze and mouse couldn't move. Moreover, each time I tried to update my graphics card driver with the help of GeForce Experience, BSOD came up.
I managed to install manually the latest driver for my graphics card but 9 out of 10 times, computer boots up with a device manager as posted on the screenshot below.
The 1 out of 10 times that boots up normally, if I try to play a game (and then the computer switches to GT 635M from Intel HD 4000), BSOD, here we go again.
I have uploaded what is requested on the .zip file.
Thank you in advance for any advice and help on this matter.
Peace \/ and rock \m/ .

There are a several problems I am trying to troubleshoot on my home-built computer right now. The one in the subject line is the most well defined, so I figured I would start there. I get a BSOD (multiple IRP complete requests) whenever I connect to the internet using my Android phone's 3G via PdaNet. According to BlueScreenView, the only driver in the stack is ntoskrnl.exe. Any suggestions for how to fix this?

I am also trying to fix a problem where my computer crashes randomly about once a week, and 90% of the time it happens precisely when it tries to turn off the display for power saving (but not EVERY time it turns off the display). Since the random crash problem is extremely difficult to debug, I thought I would start with the BSOD problem, and hope that whatever fixes the latter will also fix the former.

I appreciate any help you guys can provide.

Hello guys,

I took blue screen error (atikmpag memory error)

It happens mostly while i watch movies via flash player. For example, I took 3 BSOD consecutivly just a minute ago. But I had not took any yesterday from the same situation.

System Specs:

i5 3570k
16gb corsair
asrock extreme4
asus 7850HD DCII
Vertex3 SSD (256gb)
High Power 750W Gold+
Windows 7 pro 64Bit

Everything is brand new.

I didn't do any OC, everything is running as stock. Also i'm sure that there is no temperature problem.

here is description of how error accurs:

First screen freezes, and goes black right after it. Then it returns back and windows says, ati driver is recovered. I could take control for just a minute and but this time it goes directly to BSOD. Always the same.
I figure it out that when just after first black-out appeared, if close all the browsers running flash in minute, it wont go BSOD but if i open any(browser with flash) after, it directly goes BSOD again.

Here is the picture of BSOD:

http://imgim.com/3578incib5970749.jpg

Date , GPU Load [%] , Memory Usage (Dedicated) [MB] , Memory Usag - Pastebin.com ( look at line 425 it is when graphic card fails)

Here is Crash Dump Files:

Could it really a memory problem or is it related with driver or Flash Player it self?
I'm stuck on it. What do you suggest?

So my PC keeps crashing with atikmpag.sys being the issue (according to BluescreenViewer attached)

I have gone to download the latest drivers here

Legacy

But it still persists in wanting the latest drivers? not sure what else I can do!

Other issues (Which I am hoping) are unrelated is that the networking on the pc doesn't work and the USB connection doesn't work.

I think that it may have something to do with the registry but I haven't got a clue?

Hopefully you can help?

AMD drivers can be buggy like that. You might have to use a version prior to the newest one. Another thing you could try is uninstall the video drivers. Once that is done go to start and type devmgmt.msc, click on view and select show hidden devices. Now in the list below you should see Non-Plug and Play Drivers. Open that and see if you still have the amdkmdag in there. If you do right click the amdkmdag and choose uninstall. Reboot the system and reinstall the new drivers.

I have been getting the BSOD since November (about 12 times) but it has only happened playing two games: Chivalry Deadliest Warrior and Battlefield 4. I never paid much attention to the crashes while playing Chivalry, because the game has many problems and it occurred infrequently.

I have just purchased Battlefield 4, and have tried playing twice, both times my computer has crashed after about 5 minutes of gameplay with a bluescreen. Bluescreenview by Nirsoft is telling me that it is the hal.dll driver that is the problem. Below is some info on my situation.

In the last few days I've had 4 BSODs. Last one prior to these was 3/3/2014, so they're not common for me. My wife managed to download some malware a few days ago and in the process of trying to remove it I had to reinstall chrome. Something is blocking me from enabling extensions so I haven't been able to install adblock again. I witnessed two of the BSODs and during both a new ad video was loading, which leads me to believe that's involved.

In BlueScreenView 3 of the BSODs show atikmpag.sys, dxgkrnl.sys and dxgmms1.sys. The 4th was NETIO.SYS and ntoskrnl.exe, with a bug check string of SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION.

Looking at other atikmpag.sys errors, I'm leaning towards an issue with video card, but I'd like advice before I go messing with things. Thanks!

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: Speccy - Publish Snapshot of your System Specs .

Uninstall the installed display driver using DDU. Then install the CCC 14.4 WHQL only.

When done, stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark. Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
Take a screenshot of the furmark window before closing it. Upload the screenshot for us. Also let us know if you have experienced any crash/BSOD and/or artifacts during the test.

Also let us know for any further BSOD after doing it.

Hi,
Recently over the past 2 weeks or so, BSOD with the error 0x116 due to atikmpag.sys has been happening very frequently (almost once per startup).
BSOD related to AMD drivers have been happening once in awhile ever since I've gotten the PC (almost 2 years old) but it's happening very frequently, sometimes within minutes upon booting up and sometimes during gaming sessions.
If this helps, my monitor also blacks out within a couple minutes of booting up, and no image is displayed until I restart my monitor, which I believe is due to the display driver failing.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the most recent AMD drivers (16.1) to no avail, any help is much appreciated.
EDIT : it also appears if the BSOD does not occur within a few minutes of booting up, there will be no BSOD for the entire session until the next startup.

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Hello all,

I'm encountering BSOD playing SWTOR for a few days. This started to happen after update of my Graphic Driver (I installed the latest release, AMD crymson 15.11). The game worked fine before this install and then, system started BSOD while playing, every crash mentionned atikmpag.sys file.

I uninstalled the 15.11 driver, rebooted my PC, downloaded on AMD web site another driver more compatible with my GC (AMD 15.7.1 Driver), installed this new driver => still crash

I uninstalled the 15.7.1 driver, verified that all files where effectively deleted (and so atikmpag.sys was), rebooted the computer, reinstalled the 15.7.1 driver => still crash

I then uninstalled the game, supressing all config files for it, and reinstalled it with the latest install program => still crash, and happen closer in time.

Before reinstalling the game, crashes occurs about 30-50min playing, now it's about 5-6mins.

I verified physically my machine, no noticable dust, vents running good, my GC was lightly OC since now and all worked fine with the game.

Dump of my computer are with this thread.

Thanks for your help!

A:BSOD playing SWTOR, error on atikmpag.sys driver

Update of the topic.

It seems that catalyst driver 15.11 altered the GC fan functionnality. I forced OC on the GC with GC fan manually set to 72%, game ran fine.

So, I de-reinstalled another time the Catalyst 15.7 driver, using in time the AMD Cleanup Utility before reinstall (wich use removed some files, non-deleted with the Catalyst deinstall self-process), and then all worked fine once again, without using OC at all.

So, i would recommend users not to install the last AMD catalyst driver if they have AMD HD 6800 series GC (or equivalent), but rather check the last available driver really compatible.

Hello. A few days ago my system crashed with a BSOD that referred to atikmpag.sys. Any attempted restart produced the same problem. Having found this forum, I attempted to resolve the issue by following your advice to previous posters (i.e. download latest AMD Catalyst driver, uninstall existing driver, clean up leftovers with DDU, reboot and custom install new driver). Unfortunately this has not resolved the problem and I still experience the BSOD on startup. By the way, I first tried to fix this by installing the latest WHQL driver from AMD (14.12) and then then by installing an earlier version (14.4) - neither has been successful. Here is the zip file: PIXIE-08_07_2015_124111_25.zip

BSOD when playing videos, error 0x00000116, atikmpag.sys

Laptop model: HP laptop Pavilion Dv6-6003tx
Laptop specs: Contact HP Support and Customer Service | HP? Support

Happens within 10mins to 2hrs of online video streaming for example using YouTube. I haven't tried playing an offline video from other sources to see if it happens.
It use to happen when i play games like Call of Duty and League of Legends and at the same time i would video stream and usually it happens when i tab over to the video streaming before the full reformatting was done.

Most of the time it would start off with "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered".
Than the BSOD happens after.

I would say as of now playing games would not really trigger this issue. It is more of when videos are streaming from websites. And sometimes switching back from full screen to the small windowed section or the other way around on the website would also trigger "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" and the BSOD errors.

This has been persisting for awhile even after having a fully reformatted windows on all drives.
All drivers and windows updates has been done with HP Support Assistant and official windows 7 online updates

Hi dumpit,

Welcome to the 7forums.

The cause of every recent crash is the Intel Management Engine Interface driver
Please check for driver updates here

Hello everybody.

I have had these BSOD almost since I installed Seven.
I used WINDBG myself to interprete those minidumps, and that helped me to search on the web.

While searching on the web, I saw lots of people complaining about similar issues with similar dlls involved, but I didn't found how to solve this.

I completely uninstalled ATI software, and reinstalled the standalone display driver, but the problem is still here.

All my drivers are up to date, including those of the graphic card.

I enabled memory remap yesterday, but it didn't change anything (I suspect a RAM-related issue, but I'm not sure).

I attached the files you asked for. The perfmon report is in French, so feel free to let me know if you need a translation of some part or another detail.

Thanks by advance for your response.
