Windows 7 Activation

Q: Windows 7 Activation

Hey people,

I recently posted a message regarding a laptop of a friend of mine, requesting help.

Now, i wanted to check if the windows 7 were genuine.
So, i went to the validation page of microsoft, I downloaded the program it asked and I run the check. After checking it told me that the windows 7 are genuine.

Thing is, I asked him about it, and he told me that they are pirated. When I asked for more information, he told me that he downloaded a genuine ISO from digitalriver, and skipped the "enter product key" when installing them. Since then, he has been downloading updates etc, without any issues. The only thing he has done is hiding that notorious anti-piracy update from windows update (KB97 something)

Can this really be? Shouldnt the validation check at least ask him to activate the windows?

Preferred Solution: Windows 7 Activation

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Windows 7 Activation

Might be that he installed it less than 30 days ago by which time(30 dats or something) he would get asked to enter the product key or his windows copy would get shut down.

Hi there
I recently changed a MOBO from an INTEL based one to one using an AMD PHENOM processor -- W7 didn't want any new activation rather surprisingly. (Broken Mobo and I had a spare ASUS MOBO lying around).

However the first time I switched to using a LAN cable instead of a Wifi USB adapter I got the "Hardware has changed - please activate windows. OK it activated fine -- however seems strange to me that a MOBO change didn't call for any activation (Disks, memory, DVD device etc were canaballized from the old machine) but a simple switch from Wifi to a LAN did. !!! The internal logic of the activation process seems totally illogical and bizarre. (Running W7 x-64 ULTIMATE). !!!

Cheers
jimbo

I recently performed a system recovery because I was unable to back up to earlier time before we started having computer issues. Anyway I performed a recovery. Stumbled accross this by accident that windows has 3 days before it wall automatically activate. So I clicked activate. It gave me this message header. "The Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for windows activation". There are 3 options. 1 is to Buy a new product key online. 2 is to type a different product key. 3 is to contact Hewlett-Packard Company to resolve this issue. I contacted Hewlett-Packard Company and they had me call Microsoft. Microsoft wants to charge me $100 for something I already own. Very confused. Anyway does anyone have a fix for this. Thank you

A:Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for windows activation

Hi
You have two choices:
You may either reinstall using the recovery partition, if you have one.
or
You could look for the key on the computer. It can be anywhere, including the battery compartment, if you have a lappy.
As a last restort you can try to use magic jelly bean, but I have doubts since you reinstalled.

Hi Gents,

Hope someone can help me here. I've been using a retail version of Win7 Home premium 64 for about 2 years now with no issues.

During that time I've reinstalled the product possibly 6 or 8 times. Excessive I know but when things start to go wrong I like to start fresh again. Anyway from memory the last 2 times I have had to use phone activation.

A couple of weeks ago I dropped my laptop and killed the HDD. Put in a new one and reinstalled Win. I've just tried to activate with no luck. I went to phone activation and being lazy I typed in my old code I had saved from last time.

Now I can't activate and when I try and open the phone activation box I get a pop up from the toolbar saying the copy isn't genuine and nothing more.

Is there a way to resolve this or have I pissed off the activation so much that I actually have to shell out for a new copy?

Thanks in advance and I'm located in Thailand if that makes a difference.

Hi guys , I installed ATI 2010 Home, Boxed version made a backup image to external HDD. got a message saying I had 30 days to activate trial version? I restored the backup image and I activated ATI , offline, I then received a message saying thanks successfully installed. When I access ATI now I get the same box asking for activation again. the options are Try out, Buy, Activate, Cancel . I was thinking of reactivating online , but am wary of further messing up the install . I have not registered the product yet , Had a look at the Acronis register page ( they tell you Not recommended to access the page) ? Any ideas with this one ? options uninstall , reinstall? Try activate online? Anyone experienced this problem?

I just completely reformatted my computer after a suspected malware attack.
The first thing I tried after reformatting and doing a clean install of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit edition was to run windows update. I received the error code 80072EFD. This is before I installed any software, firewalls, or antivirus programs. I also get this same error when trying to activate windows or office, or when trying to set up Microsoft media center.

I have been in contact with microsoft, but nothing has worked so far. I thought I would see if anyone here had any ideas.

Here are the troubleshooting steps I have already done. Please read through these before posting as you can see I have already tried a lot of things!

2. Restarting the computer
3. Adding windows update websites to the internet explorer exceptions list: http://*.update.microsoft.com https://*.update.microsoft.com http://download.windowsupdate.com Microsoft Support http://update.microsoft.com https://update.microsoft.com
4. Verifying internet connectivity (internet works fine)
5. Tried it with Windows firewall on and off. No other firewalls are installed.

We purchased a VLK with Software Assurance from a local distributor here my question is what if from their VLSC License the Operating System listed are

10 Windows 7 Professional
82 Windows 8 Enterprise

We don't want to install Windows 8 as of now to our office and we wanted to retain the Windows 7 Pro and Enterprise as our Operating System. Do we have a problem for Activation if we still insists to used Windows 7 Pro and Enterprise Operating System using the Windows 8 Enterprise 82 Licenses?

Thank you very much

A:Activation Windows 8 Enterprise VLK but wanted to install Windows 7Ent

There is no way you can use a Windows 8 Enterprise licence for anything else than Windows 8 Enterprise. You simply can not activate Windows with a product key belonging to another Windows version and edition.

With those licences you can install and activate 27 25 Windows 7, not a single more.

Hiya,

I am having a problem with my windows 7 home premium 64bit. I wiped my computer to try and get a new graphic card to work( never got it working, gave up and went back to my old graphic card) Since then I have had to wipe my computer a number of times, I kept having to wipe my computer since the same problem kept happening. Which is that my windows will crash and wont work after about 1-2mins after start up.

I thought it was my disk so I installed it from a usb windows installer and has been runnign fine for about 2 weeks until I was free to do the phone activation of my windows, I phoned up the activation after using my computer for a while then after I phoned and it came up genuine (like normal) I went to get a drink befor doing more work and once getting back to my computer I opened a new tab on firefox it was very slow on the internet so I clsoed my browser and tried to reopen it and but it woulnd't open windows has frozen completely so I pressed the restart button on my case and let it boot up and then it wouldn't let me do anything.

Does anyone have any idea of how come my computer seem to freeze and refuse to work once I use the windows phone activation?

A:Windows wont work after using windows 7 home phone activation

What makes you think it is the activation? Did you go click on "Start Button", right click on "Computer" and left click on "Properties"? When the screen comes up scroll down to the right bottom of the screen and you should see a "Genuine Windows Logo". If it says something different then there is an activation problem.

I bought a new pc and i want to buy Windows 10 Pro. I have found a very good price for a Windows 7 Pro license which will give me a free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

I will have the key in the following days but the pc is assembled and ready.

(1)Can i clean install Windows 10 Pro and activate it with the windows 7 pro key that has never been activated even for a windows 7 machine or
(2)should i first install windows 7 pro, activate it with the key and then clean install windows 10 and activate it with the windows 7 pro key

Thank you.

Hi Trod,
You can install W10 NOW and you dont have to activate it immediately, theres a 30 day grace period.
So when you get your W7 package you can activate it with the product key.
Windows 10 - Clean Install - Windows 10 Forums.

note your purchased W7 pro licence MUST be either System builder or retail or it will not activate

Does windows stop running or does look like a bootleg program to microsoft ?

A:Windows Activation

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307890Activation is required in 30 days from the first day that you start Windows XP. If you want to activate Windows on a day that is later than the day that you install it, a Windows Activation icon appears in the notification area. This icon periodically displays notifications to remind you about how much time remains before you must activate. After the 30 days has expired, you must activate Windows to continue using Windows.

Tonight, I was working on my cousin's computer, who had a virus, and who did not have any recovery discs or windows discs. I had to reinstall XP. I copied her windows key down with a program called Belarc Advisor, then began to reformat using MY XP disc. Little did I know, you have to use the key that was issued with the disc. Back to my house and back. So now she has Windows installed, but I didn't activate it because I don't know how - or if there is a way - to call Microsoft or something and use her Win XP key, instead of mine that was used when installing.

Surprisingly, when I entered the activation code on the phone, the automated voice gave me a new code, no questions asked, despite me having used this copy of XP in the past. (Is XP support discontinued now?)

If I should want to use my copy of XP again (I'm not using it right now), I don't want to run into validation problems and have her need to buy a copy of Windows out of the blue because I needed to use mine. I don't know if this will happen - I'm not sure on how validation and product keys work.

Can anyone tell me how to change the key over to hers, or if I'll be running into any trouble? As I've said, we both have perfectly legal keys of XP, and I could even call Microsoft and have them verify them if I had to. I just had to use my disc because I seem to be the only one that understands how important it is to keep up with installation discs and keys.

A:Windows activation - please help

if it is your disk and your code and you do not plan to give it to your cousin, then it is an illegal install.

You will need the proper xp version in order to use her key. Did the computer not have a hidden partition? Usually if a computer did not come with recovery disks theen there is a hidden partition where you can do a reinstall. Exactly what computer maker and model?

MY question is .In the future when i have to reinstall my OS i have to activate again and again.
Instead of doing that there is a Microsoft Digital Signiture(a file about 7kb) which is written somewhere on my hdd. That file contains the Confirmation ID#.This can be used in case of reinstalling of OS,so i dont have to activate again.INstead you just enter the confirmation ID and then the activation is completed.
Is it true this or how does Windows 7 keeps the Activation.
i dont want to activate every time.
That is why i would like to know if such file exist and that is?

Hard drive failed last month, lost everything my daughters laptop, no she didn't make a recovery disk!  I replaced the hard drive, smaller capacity but still SATA 2 and started looking around the forums for solutions for recovery.  I came across a thread here in regards to using  Microsoft  created installation media, which I successfully created to a DVD and installed on my new hard drive. On completion I had a activation problem, although being assured that 8.1 would be activated I was aware that my product key pre installed in the BIOS was W8.  I contacted Microsoft support and was told to contact Dell who informed me that 8.1 would never work and relieved me of £30 and sent  a W8 disk, although annoyed that I am paying for something twice I considered it a type of fine for not creating one.
I clean installed, booted from the DVD, I accepted the licence agreement from Microsoft which thanked me for choosing a pc pre-installed with W8, unfortunately at the end, not activated. I have used these forums and discovered the full key, entering manually, but not recognised probably due to the fact it is not supposed to be entered manually.  I us... Read more

I've asked the windows support team and they told me to activate the windows with product key

Is there any solution for these problems?

If you only just bought it, new, and you have a legitimate copy of Windows. I would advise you take it back to the store of purchase.

I have just fired up a PC that has not been on for some time. Problem is, when it gets to logon I'm requested to activate windows, but when I click yes to activate nothing happens.
It just sits there with a blank blue screen. I have searched Microsoft KB but have not found a solution.

I had my computer cleaned up after it was infected, so I lost the Chinese language as well. I was told to reinstall windows xp in order to add Chinese back, so I did that using a CD I bought from the computer store. I followed the steps till I was asked to "activate" xp, and I did that. The screen froze after I clicked "yes". I also tried to reboot using F12, but it gave me the same message after a few steps.

Hi chaps,

I bought an AMD Sempron 3000+ with XP PRO 64 bit loaded and having tried to load a few applications gave up for a while. When I switched it on the other day, it now says that Windows requires activation. When you say yes to this a box appears saying that Windows has already been activated and to exit. When exiting from this box, the welcome screen appears and logs off every time with the only option to shutdown or restart. If I can't login how can find the product ID? or even attempt to load Internet software to log in to Microsoft. All I have is a Microsoft Product recovery cd-rom with the Product KEY. Sometimes the product ID is on a sticker on the box, but not in this case. I bought this system on Ebay from a company call the PC Experts Ltd and everything seems above board. They supplied me with the recovery cd and motherboard cd and various manuals. Have I bought a pink elephant? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Hi, The key is in the BIOS of your machine, please use the following tool to get it:   http://www.belarc.com/free_download.htmlWhen run this tool, it produces a report, scroll down to Software Management section. Windows 8, 8.1 or 10  product key is in there. You can also use the following tool to find out:  https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ Note: normally you don't need to activate again.Regards,

Out of the blue, this Windows Activation box says:

The Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for activation

Then, there's 3 choices to click on:

Buy a new product key online
Type a different product key
Contact Dell to help resolve the problem

My desktop picture is all blank/black too (but the icons are still on there.) This is all news to me. I didn't type in anything in the first place.

I've had this Dell desktop computer for several years & this never did this before.

Hopefully someone can help me. (I'd try retyping the long digit product key in that I always had, but it's at my parents' house where I'd hopefully find it.)

I just upgraded my old computer, new case etc. I put in my Hard-drive and boom, i've got to activate XP. I've got all my stuff on there, and i need that computer!

I click "online activation" and it says my there may be a problem with my connection (im using my laptop so definately not...).

I called the phone activation center, i had enter a 42-digit code, and they said they couldnt activate it, and i should go to microsoft.com/genuine and look something up (no other instructions). They just said maybe it was pirated, which it isn't.

I may had a COA sticker on the old case, but thats been gone for years. I need your help!
The Assistant wont accept the online activation, and the automated assisstant says the code is invalid. I've got nothing else to use, i hope you TechGuy can help!

Sorry if I'm breaking the terms.. Searched and couldn't find anything about this..

Years and years ago I built components for a computer and put it together.. Got a copy of Windows XP Home OEM..

A few years ago I bought an HP computer from Best Buy, Came with windows XP on it.

Recently, I decided to sell the HP To my friend. I decided to re-format it..

I haven't really reformatted and installed windows on a computer since I had been using windows 98 which was very simple and easy. I knew I had a disk with Windows XP on it and just wasn't thinking!

I reformatted, put in the OEM Windows XP disk in and installed it, got the the product key and the code on the actual HP PC did not work. Long story short, I had a product key for windows xp that came from HP and a windows XP disk that requires an OEM product key.

So I tried to figure this out for hours and hours and finally the only solution I came up with was.. sad to say.. a crack, a thing to bypass the activation thing.

My friend asked me to clean out her computer of junk slowing it down.. SO I went over and ran malware bytes, not thinking it detected the bypass thing and indentified it as a trojan and I got rid if it! restarted and now it wont let me on the computer unless I activate it!

I'm not asking for a program to let me bypass it anything.
I'm will to actually buy a retail version of XP and re-install it.

The only reason I havn't done this is because she has a lot of pictures she wants o... Read more

You should be able to take the drive out and attach it in place of a CD or DVD drive in a working pc to salvage the files.

What version of XP did the PC come with? . . Home, Pro or MCE?

If the Dell reinstallation cd matched the version on the sticker, it should have worked fine to reinstall. Otherwise, any retail version will work

This pre-release version of Windows 7 Ultimate will expire in 0 hours

To keep using Windows, back up your files, and then install any edition of Windows 7 Ultimate.

Then after some min it restart on its own.....

my configuaration-

windws 7 Ultimate
SP-1,v.721

now what can u do???

A:Windows Activation

Please check this thread for a possible solution: Pre-Release version expiring

It seems you need to uninstall the pre-release version of SP1 and install the up-to-date RTM version of SP1. This is because what you have is the pre-release version of Windows 7, which has an expiry date.

When I say SP1, I'm talking about the service pack itself, not a complete re-install of Windows 7.

For both of them windows installed and came to the windows login screen where i got/get a popup saying i have to activate windows before i continue, then asks if i wish to do it now. For one computer i clicked No and signd in and i was in windows with a 30 day reminder to activate windows. From there i was able to install the ethernet card and service provider information, then sign right on and activate. However the other computer wont get past that login screen! I have hit No 50 times and tried going to the end of activation then hitting Remind Me Later but i cant get anywhere. Please help and thank you in advance

So, I installed a copy of Windows XP Home Edition on my desktop, and I got lazy witht eh 30 day activation thing, and wated untill it was too late.
When my 30 days were up, I turned on my computer, and it said "In order to use windows, you must activate it now". So I confirmed that, then the activation window popped up, but it said "Windows is already activated, click OK to close". So I click OK, and then it takes me back to the login screen.

Please help, I kinda need that computer.
