Need help finding user management tool.

Q: Need help finding user management tool.

On a windows xp computer, I tried the trick of logging in as the "SYSTEM" user. I found a setting that allowed me to see (and modify) all the users, including "LOCAL SERVICE" and "SYSTEM". Now I want to find it on a windows 7 computer but I don't know how. I simply can't remember how I got to the settings in xp.
NOTE: by user management tool, I do not mean the user accounts page in control panel.

Preferred Solution: Need help finding user management tool.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys,

After spending most of the day trying to get my head around user management and getting nowhere, I'm asking for help.

I've built a PC, and freshly installed windows 7 on a computer for my girlfriends family. I want one normal-user password protected account at the welcome screen, but I want them to be able to use administrator rights when necessary.

The default profile created during instillation (lets call it User1) has administrator powers. User2 has only user rights, and of course there is disabled/hidden Administrator account with elevated admin rights.

When I tried to configure this last time by hiding User1 and Admin, I ended locking myself out of all admin access and therefore couldn't change passwords, re enable or login to UAC. I had to system restore to get back to working configuration.

Can anyone tell me how to create a system that shows only one login for a normal user, but can then access administrator options via UAC?

If I disable User1 in additon to having Admin disabled, I'm sure I will just get locked out of admin access again?

If I delete User1, and keep admin disabled, will User2 be able to use admin privileges - or will it lead to again?

I'm probably missing something very simple, but i just can't see a way to do this with having only one login visible on the welcome screen. (without the one login being User1 with admin rights)

A:[W7] User management on Family PC - Admin and user groups

In Vista and Windows Seven the default account in the Administrator group that is created, is roughly equivalent to the Operators Group that was extant in NT Server 4. You could do things like install programs, register COM dlls etc.. but you could not delete system files.

I think it's a pretty good compromise.
But then again I turn UAC off altogether. So maybe I can't be trusted.

Like if I just had say sevenforums.com it would accept cookies from sevenforums.com but would block any other cookie period since they are not in the safe/allow list. I checked firefox plugins and download.com for something like this and haven't been able to find one yet. So here I am asking for your help since you guys and gals always seem to know where to find this stuff.

The main focus of my search is for a utility that will allow the setting and saving of process priority via simple right-click through task manager. I had my eye on PRIO as it looked to do just that while also offering the bonus of a convenient UAC auto-elevation option. Unfortunately it looks not to have been supported since 2012. I aborted installation when it began looking like some of the options may be Vista only.

Forum search resulted in only a few related threads, most of which were quite dated. I'm hoping there may currently be additional options.

A:Process Management Tool Suggestions?

Some years ago I tried PRIO on Windows 7 and it seemed to work well. If it was supported up until 2012 it is highly probable that it fully supported Windows 7, which after all was released in 2009. The reference to Vista may have been to Vista and later. The documentation may not have been updated.

I am not currently using it as I have no need for it.

There are some stand alone utilities that can set process priority but I know of none that work through Task Manager.

Hi, the disk management tool on my windows doesn't move on and hangs at "connecting to virtual disk service" forever:

My HP desktop is new, windows 8.1, hard drive having ample space. I searched the web and tried, but to no avail. Any idea? Or where can I download a free windows disk management tool to fix the issue? Thank you.

A:Disk management tool not working

Hi invincible,

Since it is a brand new rig and I'm assuming you have done nothing of significance to drastically alter the OS, I would first contact the HP support group for assistance because there may be more corruption yet to be found. However, if you would like to try and fix it before doing so, you can try these 2 commands from an elevated command prompt:

sfc /scannow (this will take a while)

If errors are report run this next command:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If DISM reports success, try opening Disk Management again.
Good luck,

I am pretty new to all this and am looking to fix my daughters PC.

I have a few issues regarding the installation of some of the key drivers after installing Win XP Pro - SP3. I installed this as opposed to the Vista OS that the PC came with.

My issue is that I have read about a driver management tool for analysing and there are hundreds on the web. Just wondering if anyone has used this tool and what one you would recommend for use. Freeware would obviously be good however I will pay for something if it is worth it.

Really grateful if you could help out.

Hi everyone,
I’m currently looking for a tool to manage multiple Exchange calendars in Outlook. I have several Exchange calendars from different organizations (i.e. different domains), all of which we share with “Availability” privacy level. My problem is that when I add an appointment in my “Company A” calendar, no one in “Company B” will see that I became unavailable then. Here’s what I imagine:
If I get a new appointment invitation or create a new appointment myself, I’d like to be able to choose which calendar(s) this appointment is added to. The tool should provide some sort of meta-calendar that holds all my appointments in one central calendar. When I change an appointment, it should be changed in all the Exchange calendars I added it to.
Does anyone know something in that area? Do you even think this is possible?

The space is apparently missing.

How can I fix this?

i was wondering if there were any 3rd party programs i could use to further restrict user acess to certain programs/sites. i'm setting account for my brother on my computer and i don't want him to be able to do too much

A:user management for xp

Well, if you have XP Pro or 2000 Pro you can use gpedit to restrict him from running certain programs, or you can specify only allowed applications, as well as block/tweak many other settings.

In XP Pro > Start>Run>type "gpedit.msc".

Note, some sections are only for the current user, thus here is what you do if configuring "Current User" policies:

1. Make his account admin
2. Log on to his acct
3. Open GPEdit
4. Set the Policy
5. Log him off, log in as yourself
6. Make him limited again.

This way you can set policies for him and he can't change them back.

You can also block harmful websites with a HOSTS file. Download it from here: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

You can also add entries.

Just type siteyouwanttoblock.com

at the end of the file you downloaded.

Hope it helps

Hi, I'm desperately looking for something I need for my startup. I have a payroll business and am wanting to expand to include online payroll features for my website. I use WYSIWYG Web Builder to create and edit my website. I have no coding experience so I need either a 3rd party software or website to help me out, or someone I can pay a fee to complete this for me.

1. I want them to be able to create an account on the website. Then they can see their personal profile page.
2. I don't need them to add all of their information to create the website, but after the account is created, I need them to fill out the rest of their information.
3. Then I need them a page to add, edit, delete and view all of their employees. And maybe a table or something for the user to enter the hours for each employee and then can hit a submit button. The data can just be sent to me via e-mail or by being connected to an excel spreadsheet that is updated when they submit their data.

That's all I pretty much need. I know it's going to require a database for that information to be stored and retrieved. I know that the pages will have to have a good amount of security and protection as it will have private data stored on these pages and in these databases.

I know WYSIWYG has a user login system but it's rather simple for what I need. Is there someone rather cheap that can work with me on building this or is there an open source software or something similar that I can use ... Read more

My niece's machine - generic ordered online.

Started a couple of days ago. Trying to open either IE or FF browsers were a very faint image - unable to access anything online. Thought of restoring an image using the Macrium boot disk, but the "boot" image on the screen lacked all restore information.
She called Verizon tech support and he told her the modem (FIOS is unavailabe) was bad and sent a router. I connected it, but got the same results.
Finally, I decided to try reinstalling Win7 - did not see the install disk . Disconnected the original C: drive and jumped another in its place - the disk began loading and all looked good until I to the page that asked for user name and password. She had misplaced the original info.
Calling verizon I got a "tech support", after having an hour trying to understand him and try his efforts to get the machine setup, I gave up.
My question; are ISPs required to give one his/her user id and password when requested? If not, the only alternative is to change ISPs.

A:Problem finding user id and password

I assume this PC works fine, other than that you can't get online with it?

Re Verizon support: you say "I gave up".

Was there a language barrier and you literally could not understand him due to his lack of English language skills?

Was he possibly competent in English, but could not explain how to pour water out of a boot?

Was he possibly competent in English and gave possibly accurate information, but you couldn't follow it for some reason? If so, what was that reason?

Or did he appear to be unwilling to provide instructions as if he feared you were unauthorized and trying to break into someone else's account?

Is your only problem the lack of user ID and password? That is, if you had them, would you know how to resolve your problem?

Is Verizon the only game in town?

More info needed.

I have a Compaq Presario 2100 running XP SP2.

I am concerned with logging in as an Admin by default. As such, I created another user account with limited privelidges. I use the limited account unless I am installing software.

I find that the stability of the system is worse when I log in as the limited user. If I log in as my Admin, then 'Switch User' to my limited account (keeping the Admin account logged in), stability improves.

Stability refers to the system responding to settings I manipulate as the Admin, especially power managment settings. As an example, the limited account cannot change the 'Power Profile' of the system, so I log in as the Admin to do that. When only the limited account is logged into the system, the power managment seems to do what it will with out regard to the settings specified by the Admin acount, i.e. the laptop is supposed to hibernate when I shut the lid; when only the limtied account is logged in, it does a standby instead!

If I log in as Admin, then switch to the limited account (keeping Admin logged in), the system does what is expected.

Am I going about the whole thing the wrong way? I mean, should I have a different security scheme?

I would like to not have to log in as Admin then switch as this is eating valuable RAM.

Hi there,

i just wanted to inform anyone whom it may concern that if you have the user account management popup bugging you repeatedly wether to allow changes to a program called "fsystem.exe" or not, it is likely a trojan that will not be recognized by most programs, but according to virustotal it is at least detected and destroyed by a handful, even free programs (in my case it was AVG Free Antivirus 2011).

There are two files related to that trojan: nskusvc.exe located in user\username\appdata\roaming\microsoft\windows\templates...followed by numbers (5 digit underscore 5 digit) which is a service running under the same name ("nskusvc" service in taskmanager) and is normally not deletable, thus the folder containing AppData is also locked (access denied even to administrator). And there is the second file, "fsystem.exe" (also a process in taskmanager)which is deletable in its folder (c:\windows\Syswow64) but returning after some seconds - same goes with the process. Both are korean origin, "language korean" and seem to be part of a trojan (some sort of win32 agent). Most Antivirus-Scanners dont find them. But there is one free program according to virustotal.com who can find and destroy both:

All you gotta do is download AVG Free Antivirus 2011 and install it - it will find and delete that trojan without a scan, just immediately on first startup. Then you can keep it as virusprotection or no... Read more

It was listed as an administrator but it was not currently enabled. Was this a hack or was this some remote session I might have had with Lenovo Tech support, in years past? Or was this a dummy account Windows used when Windows 10 Pro was installed over Windows 8.1 Pro? I have been keeping this laptop as my Windows native backup system, and love the power of this workstation class laptop, but these types of incidents bother me with Windows. The error code for that is: 0x800A0046Also, SR is turned off by initial virus attack and impossible to turn back on or off via roll back options through My Computer icon right click > Properties > Tools > System Restore.I was advised by my retail tech to remove tool bar and re-install IE-8 again.(My main browser is firefox. I Use IE-8 only for MS updates as separate browser). The 0x800A0046 error code in manual win updates still appeared as before. So, THIS is what I did in their knowledge Base Article suggestions regarding this code error as follows:(please click a/o URL copy paste)http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/showarticle.aspx?articleid=20&ln=en&IsMu=TrueTo make things shorter, they provide x 3 solutions. The first (2) did not work.#3. (Where I discovered Administrative Tools icon was missing from Start / All Progs icon list) is where my life ended.I knew I could access this tool through Control Panel a/o C: / All Programs and did so to follow #3. instructions by Microso... A:Restore XP Pro User Account accidentally removed in Computer Management > Member of tab.

Just a clarification.Your first topic/post was made 26 Apr in the wrong forum. You posted your comments in the Malware Removal Logs forum...you did not submit any logs, so the post did not belong there. Turnaround for topics in that forum is currently 7-8 days...so it's probably a good thing that you made this second post or your topic would have remained needlessly in the wrong forum.I just moved your post to the appropriate forum, your topic is http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic393718.html/page__p__2221926#entry2221926 .Since you have an open thread/topic concerning a possibly infected system...I suggest that you not explore any other apparent issues on that system until the topic listed above is concluded.Louis

I have noticed lately that my computer seems to take an excessively long time to boot up completely - almost 5 minutes. Also when clicking on desktop icons, they seem to also take much longer to load. Windows Explorer (the folder and file management tool, not to be confused with the browser Internet Explorer) is agonizingly slow to rename and open folders and files, sometimes taking close to 2 minutes just to open a 56 KB file. I have done all the usual things like running a virus and spyware scans (I have AdAware, Spybot, Malwarebytes and ATFCleaner, CCleaner as well as my ISP's Computer Associates Antivirus, Firewall and Spyware protection installed), emptying temp files and recycle bin and defraging the hard drive and I've unchecked "Automatically search for Network folders and printers". I also did a chkdsk scan and a system restore to before when the problem started. Nothing seems to help the slow response, especially when working with folders and files through Windows Explorer. I have not downloaded or installed any programs recently (only AdAware, Spybot and CA updates), but I did have a new power supply and a new cable modem installed recently. Even the tech that installed the new power supply said he was concerned at how long it took for my computer to boot up, however he only repairs hardware and could offer no suggestions as to what the problem is. If it's any help in diagnosing my problem, my system is an HP Pavilion 750n with a 1.6 GHz Pentium 4 proce... Read more

I am looking for a tool/application that will be able to monitor the user's use of bandwidth on our network. Ideally, I would like something simple that might list all of the users on our network by IP or Host Name and the percent of bandwidth they use. I am running a Windows 2000 server machine with roughly 30 users.

I have been looking around for a week and cannot locate anything useful. I really really appreciate any help!

In the control panel my icon to open my user accounts is missing or deleted. In the catagory view the icon is there but nothing happens when it is clicked.

I recently used the user accounts to set up passwords for parental control. I have decided that this is causing more problems than good and want to go back to the one user where everyone can acess all programs, but the icon for my user accounts is missing. I have attempted to use the sytem restore but this does not bring it back and messes with other programs.
Thank you for any help you can give.

I have been working on a tool to automate USMT migrations to be working in enterprise level.
The USMT tool is working perfectly fine and migrating the system_folders inside the user profile. i.e:
C:\Users\%Username%\Pictures etc..

However if I have a non system_folder inside the user profile such as C:\Users\%Username%\MyData it does not get transfered.
How do I include all the folders inside the user profile to be transferred ? I tried fiddling around in the default MigUser.xml/custom.xml files created but no luck.
