[HELP] Internet Explorer 10 doesn't work with some custom shell32.dll

Q: [HELP] Internet Explorer 10 doesn't work with some custom shell32.dll

I've modified the icons in my shell32.dll using Resource Hacker and when I've applied it Internet Explorer fails to start. It gives an error which reads,

"iexplore.exe - Entry Point Not Found"
The procedure entry point
shell32.SetCurrentProcessExplicitAppUserModeID could not be located in the dynamic link library api-ms-win-downlevel-shell32-l1-1-0.dll."

When I revert back to my previous shell32.dll which is also custom one, IE10 is working fine, so I think it is Resource Hacker that is causing this problem. I've tried modifying shell32.dll using Restorator 2007 but it gives me an error with "corrupt icon resource." I don't know what else to use to modify shell32.dll that won't make any problem with IE10. Any solution or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Preferred Solution: [HELP] Internet Explorer 10 doesn't work with some custom shell32.dll

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I assume you're running ResHack as admin, but do you have ownership of shell32.dll? That might be problem, I assume.

I've tried this tutorial, and I still can't remove the explorer toolbar. I use a customized windows classic theme, and I think this might be the reason its not working for me. So, I found another thread with this post and I'm thinking of trying to edit the shell32.dll and see if this method will remove the explorer toolbar.

Before I do this, I was wondering if anyone knew if this method will remove the explorer toolbar on a customized windows classic theme. I have my customized windows classic theme to resemble the Windows 95/98 grey theme. Does anyone know if this method works on a customized classic theme?

A:Can shell32.dll remove explorer toolbar using custom classic theme?

I have finally removed this explorer toolbar. I just followed the instructions from that thread in my first post and edited the shell32.dll. It is now gone. w00t!

So if anyone else has trouble removing that toolbar using that shellstyle.dll from the tutorial from my first post, just edit the shell32.dll instead and it will remove it.

When I try to run IE a window pops up and says "the site you are requesting is not available" and a second window appears asking if I want to download the url I was trying to visit (my home page). I'm left with an IE window that is blank.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition version 2002 Service Pack 2.

I've run my virus scan, spy bot s&d, and adaware. I'm using AVAST as my virus tool.

A side note Firefox browser does work (that's how I'm doing this post).

A:Internet Explorer Doesn't Work

Well, those are signs of an infection. But I don't fully understand:I've run my virus scan, spy bot s&d, and adaware. I'm using AVAST as my virus tool. And what were the results of these scans?A side note Firefox browser does work (that's how I'm doing this post). How did you make this post? Using Firefox?Boot into safe mode by hitting F8 key at startup and choose 'safe mode'. Run your scans in safe mode and see if they find anything. You might also try "safe mode w/networking' if you are using high speed internet. This should allow you to surf the web. See if IE works in this mode.

I have Windows xp Professional 64 on my computer at work. When I deleted browsing history my "Internet Explorer 7 32 bit" stopped working but the IE 64 bit still worked. I updated to IE8 but the problem stays.

The strange thing is that the Intranet works normally on the 32 bit version as well as the company homepage. Are there any filters working only for 32 bit IE version? Is that server related. Is there any way to make the 32 bit version work again? I tried resetting all settings but without any success. I am one of the few using 64 bit Windows version at the company but IE7 32 bit worked normally before?

What to do?

A:Internet Explorer 32 doesn't work but 64 does

Why are you using the 32bit version of IE on a 64 bit version of Windows, when you also have the 64bit version of IE on that computer? Who do you need both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of IE?

So how did it stop working? It wouldn't start? It wouldn't load pages? If it wouldn't load pages, what was the error message? "Connection Timed out"? "Error Connecting to Network"?
If im not wrong, IE should have diagnostic tools in their browser, to search for what's wrong with the connection. Find and try that =)

Good Luck!

I recently installed IE 8 on my computer (I have XP as my OS). Now, about half the time when I launch the browser it doesn't work. It will not load the homepage (the circle next to the word "connecting" spins constantly). If I type another address, it won't load that either. If I close the window and relaunch IE it often (but not always) works.

How can I fix this?

A:Internet Explorer 8 doesn't always work

Go to Tools/Compatibility View. If that still doesn't work, then try going to Tools/Manage Add Ons and try disabling some of the ad ons. Also try going to Tools/Internet Options/Browsing History and delete Temp files. If that still fails, go to Advanced tab/Reset IE Settings/Reset. If all fails go to Add Remove Programs and uninstall IE8 and it will roll it back to IE7,.

Hello! New thread for a rare problem.

I use English and Greek on my PC. I always use Alt+Shift to change between those two languages when I write.
Since the last mishap of my PC, Alt+Shift doesn't work INSIDE the web forms anymore. It still works in the address bar and the search bar next to it (which is usually how I search) and everywhere else in the OS. The language DOES change when I click on the language bar button though.

Is there something I am missing? IE version 7.0.5730.11 (though I don't think that would be of any help)

Address not valid and browser inputs http:/// into URL area rather than resolving
I have read several threads regarding my Internet Explorer not working. I'd leave it alone and just use Firefox but several of my applications like iTunes seem to have a dependency on IE. IE stopped working for me after I viewed a file on Facebook which was a virus. Since then, each time I type in any web address like www.google.com, the response that I get is "Address not valid" and www.google.com is replaced with http:///. In reading through the threads, I tried several options like running Killbox and looking for the Neth - unknown user via the services window but that didn't exist. I also downloaded the regcure for IE but that has not solved the problem either. Please help!

Dear Sir/Madam:
Thanks for your attention. I cannot open Internet Explorer. Trying giving a solution, I have downloaded the last version of Internet Explorer (IE8). When I try to open it, always appears "Lo sentimos, no se puede encontrar la página solicitada" (in Spanish. Its approximate translation is: We are sorry, the required page cannot be find). And then appear:"A runtime has occurred. Do you wish to debug?" In checked box: "Use the built-in script debugger in Internet Explorer. Yes - No". I chose "Yes". Then appear a "developer tools" page accompanied by a box with this legend: "JScript Debugger. Breaking on JScript runtime error - Object expected. OK". I click "ok".
When I try to close the page, it ask me "Do you want to stop debugging?" I chose to click "yes".

I think the solution of the problem is to keep it in debugging. What do you recommend me?

I appreciate deeply your sugestions.

I'm typing this up on my better working computer, because I'm having issues with IE 7 and Firefox in my Windows XP Media Center Edition.

This started with my Outlook Express crashing everytime I opened an attachment, so I randomly downloaded and ran CCleaner, which sort of fixed the problem.

But then i noticed that the pages on IE would never work properly. Each time I clicked on a link, it would open it in a new window. the AVG website wouldn't work, even though it connected from my other laptop (thru a wireless connection). Some pages I tried going to check on this problem wouldn't open, and IE would say there was a problem opening the page. So i downloaded Firefox and it kind of did the same thing.

With firefox I noticed that it opened a new tab and i saw something in the url called www.windowsclick.com....... and a really long url following.

So I'm pretty sure it's some kind of trojan that my AVG (8, which was REALLY buggy) couldn't see. And I tried using Avira and Spyware Terminator (which I had to download on another computer and bring it to usin my usb key.

My comp is
Dell Inspiron 1501
AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-58
120 GB HDD
1.5 GB RAM
Windows XP Media Center Edition

Also there was this weird issue with it not recognizing my USB Keys for awhile, so that was kind of scary, but it seems to have been fixed.AND I can't get rid of AVG 8 for some reason.... but that could be for another day.

I wish i wrote down the exact name but contained the word filter in it, after removing it, it allowed internet once again. You may want to check to see if there is a filter, if so i suggesting posting the name and researching it a little before removing It.

Please help me. I think my computer has a virus or multiple ones. I went through the 5 steps you recommended, but could only run one of the scans (Panda), since the other require IE, and my IE doesn't work. Panda found 8 viruses and 26 instances of Spyware. It disinfected the viruses but didn't do anything with the spyware. I manually went through and deleted all of the files that I could, but I think there must still be something hidden somewhere. I ran other scans, Adaware, Spybot, etc, and they didn't find anything. I'm not sure what else to do. PLEASE HELP!

Hello and Welcome. Please subscribe to this thread to get immediate notification of replies as soon as they are posted.

Before begining the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix.

It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence.

Not sure how you were able to perform an online scan at Panda without IE, as it requires IE5 or higher.

Hey guys,
I'm kinda new to the forums, but looked all over for advice given to others to see if anyone else had my problem. Internet Explorer will open web pages, but anytime i try to open Windows Explorer or My Documents, etc. or try to go into Control Panel, i recieve an error message. It sends an error report involving iexplore.exe/explorer.exe and shell32.dll. I don't seem to have a problem running any other programs, it just won't let me open folders or look around my computer. I've scanned for viruses using Trend's Housecall and scanned for spyware using Ad-aware and Spybot.

I scanned using HijackThis, but i didn't see anything that would cause a problem. Everything mentioned in the log is something familiar to me. Here's the log:

I am using Internet Explorer 11 from Program Files folder which supposedly launches 64 bit applications. This Internet Explorer 11 settings from Tools Options of Custom Level and Advanced tabs Security features were if selected; Internet Explorer
11 64 bit simply refuses to load websites with host of other truly funny messages like US DOD official website found 'Not Secure' or Microsoft's own msftconnect.com 'This website is not secure' etc., with other websites like default Internet Explorer 11 webpage
doesn't loads fast enough even though all options favours fast loading with Advanced security features; WHY? this ultimately stops after all settings are set to default without single modification in Custom Settings or Advance Security features.
This coupled with Microsoft Edge's unpredictable website loading with frequent Network's internet connection disconnecting to the brink of unusability; nothing; even Microsoft Edge Reset won't resolve these scenarios.
And now Microsoft Edge DEV; with all above said problems and beta version errings uses 1.5 GB of 4G ISP full speed memory to send computer information to Microsoft within half day of 12 hrs. day, rest of day goes with crawling speed of ISP setted 64 Kbps
in short without internet connection; this happening on all days Microsoft Edge DEV use; now a days I use only Internet Explorer 11 64 bit strictly with Default Level & Advance Security features Resetted instead of selecting app... Read more

I suppose the title says it all, my computer has some sort of infection where every search in google in both firefox and internet explorer redirect the searches to random pages. Additionally, typing in certain addresses simply won't load where I know the page should work, such as certain links on microsoft.com. Furthermore, I have enabled Automatic Updates and it tells me that it is not enabled even though it clearly is in the settings and going to the update page through internet explorer simply does not work. I have read through various other forums here at bleepingcomputer.com and followed their instructions but nothing has fixed the problem so I figured I'd post as well and start fresh. A huge thanks in advance to whomever is able to help me out. So, where do I begin?

Just tried installing an Kingston SSD on my computer. Everything worked fine but I tried to switch data from my original HDD over to SDD and successfully did so. Noticed after that my HDD became labeled (E:/) and was mentioned twice on the list. Then I started to have problems a while after. None of the start menu shortcuts work, whether I type them in to the search bar or just try to click them on the start menu they fail to open. This stupid error appears every like 15 seconds saying "error exe.eplorer" or something like that. Another error pops up frequently too which i included a screenshot of.

Here is the link to the tutorial of switching data between the two drives to explain what I was doing better

I'm having difficulty figuring out this persistent malware. I think it's likely that there are multiple issues.

I'm running Windows Vista.

The malware started off with "google redirect" symptoms, and disabling my Symantec software

Shortly following, I could no longer access the web. However, the malware itself would create an internet explorer popup every 5-10 minutes (not my default browser) that would go to "search sites" (none that I recognized....) and search for lewd topics. Running the taskmanager would show multiple instances of iexplore.exe running on my machine (one for each popup). The popups would have to be eliminated one by one using the task manager.

Trying to run a system restore, I discovered all restore points had been deleted.

I installed AVG antivirus and got it to run once which seemed to help the problem. However, upon restart, all issues were back and I could no longer run avg. Windows defender constantly pops up that a new trojan is attacking my machine.

At this point, I unplugged my internet connection and started using another machine. I had left my problematic computer alone for about a month.

Upon turning it on last night, each time I logged on, it gave me a warning that "Windows had encountered a critical error and will restart in one minute" and would restart. I tried running cmd (in that one minute) to intercept it, but the task manager would freeze if I tried to run it from there and explorer wo... Read more

i am having an issue with a custom protocol that we currently have setup on all of our systems. This custom protocol is automatically setup and configured during the installation of one of our core apps.

the behavior that we are having is as follows:
- if i open the run dialog and type in nds://1234567890, the application opens and automatically brings up record #1234567890
- if i have an excel spreadsheet containing links in the above format, and i click a link, i get the same behaviour as above (works as expected)

- when i click on the above link from a webpage in ie8, i recieve 2 errors
1. a window titled nds://1234567890 with the error "there was a problem sending the command to the program"
2. a second window titled Internet Explorer saying unable to open the helper application for nds://1234567890.  The protocol specified in this address is not valid.  Make sure the address is correct and try again.
We are trying to do this on win7 x64 sp1 and all pc's are joined to a domain.  I dont know if DDE co es into play with this, but i do know theremis a dde section in the registry underthis protocol/clsid values.  i dont know if this is
an IE policy issues, or something else ( the fact that it worls outside of IE is what is stumping me).
any help would be very appreciated

Hi TSF. I'm posting because I recently started having a problem with my laptop; whenever I try to start explorer.exe, my computer thinks for a second, then goes back to the desktop without explorer being opened. Is there a way to fix this without restoring the computer to factory settings?

This is also a problem with other programs; I cannot open Norton 360, League of Legends, or command prompt either. Also, I can't log into Steam, though I can use it in offline mode.

What's odd is that I can use Chrome, Spotify and Task Manager without any problems whatsoever. I managed to start command prompt through task manager, but when I tried doing the same thing with Norton 360 and explorer.exe, it does not work.

I ran a system scan through command prompt ("sfc /scannow"). It didn't find any problems.

When I start the computer in safe mode, I can use explorer without any problems.

System specifications

Computer model: Lenovo IdeaPad U330p

Operating system: Windows 8 (it might be 8.1, I'm not sure)

I think that's it. I hope I provided enough information for you to try and help me out! Thanks in advance.

I hope someone can help me work this out, it's driving me crazy!
I'll try to explain it in as few words as possible!
There is a website we need to access on which we're having trouble getting some of the buttons to display.  In short it works when the internet zone is set to "Medium" but not when it's "Medium-High" (I have added it to trusted sites
but in properties it shows as "Unknown Zone (Mixed)" so seems to use the "Internet Zone" settings.)
I am trying to track down which security setting is causing the issue.  To do this my plan was to make a note of all the settings that differ between Medium and Medium-High.  However if I set it to medium-high and manually change all the settings
to be identical to medium it still doesn't work... yet if I use the "Reset to: Medium" option at the bottom it does work!  This doesn't make any sense to me.
Are there other hidden stetting affected by the "Reset to" option that I can't change manually.
Any help would really be appreciated!  Thanks!

I have a computer k6-500 128 meg mem. Had win98 se but I updated to ME in hopes of resolving this issue.
I am working with an SMC router and a realtec nic. I have tried a wireless usb card that works on my laptop and was properly installed and configured. Here's the problem

I can ping the router, It recognizes microsoft and my brother's ftp site when checking for DNS using a static DNS I got from my router (it did not when I let set it for automatic). Explorer 5.1 and now 5.5 can not find any page or hit the router when I type in the address. I thought it was Explorer so I installed Netscape with no effect. That's when I tried to upgrade to ME, no change. I removed all spyware I could find and any software that was suspect.

I am completely out of ideas and so are my regular resources. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Alright, every time I try boot into Windows, it first takes forever to load, and Windows Explorer never loads ("Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close"). I try to boot into safe mode, and when I try to log into my profile, I get an error saying something about the possibility of a corrupt user profile (among other things). I log in to the temporary profile and Explorer still won't load.

Is there a way to fix this without reinstalling? (for the third time)

EDIT: I'm using Windows XP Home SP3 with IE8 beta.

Here is my problem: I have Outlook Express and Internet Explorer in my task bar. When I click on either of them to open them nothing happens. I get the hour glass for a few seconds but it goes away. However, if I try to open them then I go to the task manager and close "explorer.exe", IE and OE will open. Of course, I can't really do much after this. Also I am unable to open any folders, drives, etc. because explorer is messed up. However, I am able to open most programs on my desktop and start menu (including Word, games, etc.). I can't open IE or OE from here, though.

Netscape does work, including the mail program. MS Messenger does NOT work.

I hope someone can help me. I've run Antivirus, AdAware, Spybot, and HiJack this.
