Q: Yoga 910 fan & right shift key solutions

Hopefully this post helps those looking for fixes for the right shift key and fan noise problems that keep the Yoga 910 from becoming a great laptop. And this post should help by not having to read through pages of posts. I am not taking any credit for these solutions, but instead listing the ones that worked for me. And will give credit were credit is due. My Yoga is now running very quiet with the fan seldom running in medium or high mode. Short-term fix was to remove Dropbox from Startup Programs 2. Update WLAN driver - big thanks to forum member Doctordon, from Don: Doctordon wrote:I had the same problem and found the solution in another thread on this page. Go ahead and leave the latest WLAN driver in place. Go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features\Uninstall a Program and look for a Qualcomm WLAN installer. Uninstall it. It's stuck, which is where the "TODO" entry comes from and the reason the processor and fan are running. Once you uninstall it and reboot, all is well. You won't lose connectivity as the driver remains in place. Launch Device Manager from the Control Panel, expand the "network adapters" entry and right-click "Properties." Select the "Driver" tab. Next to "driver version," it should say 12.0.0.278. If not, you can click "Update driver" and "Let Windows search.." It'll find the correct driver without launching any Qualcomm installers. 3. Hopefully the engineers are reading the forums. I tried to retain myself to use this poor placement design, but jumping back &forth between my work station and Yoga, it was impossible. While the Community had a solution for the poor placement of the Right Shift Key on the 710, it cannot be applied on the 910. After installing KeyTweak and attempting to run it, I received "Run-time error '380': Invalid property value." I worked with Best Buy's Geek Squad for hours. They tried every keyboard remapping tool they knew of, and nothing worked. Since we know there can be a relatively easy software fix to this problem -- which is clearly angering many customers, and presumably hurting Lenovo's revenues and reputation -- could Lenovo Tech Support or Product Management please provide the fix?

I have seen posts regarding how to switch the PgUp with the right Shift key to correct the bad design of the keyboard (seriously very irritating!!!). But I was wondering if instead I can duplicate the Shift and use the PgUp as a shift as well and not using a PgUp (which I rarely use anyway).

Greetings All,I have a brand new yoga 710 with windows 10.  I am generally impressed with it, with the exception of the poorly designed keyboard.  Defying 80+ years of standard keyboard formatting, on the 710, the 'Right Shift' key is only half-sized, and it is shared with the 'PgUp' key, conveniently placed to the right of the PgUp key.?  Every single time I am typing on this keyboard (including this post), I am moving the cursor up instead of capitalizing a letter.  I cannot even hit the Right Shift key while keeping my fingers on the home row, my pinky finger will not reach it, it is that far, and I am consistently hitting PgUp instead of Right Shift.  Suffice it to say, it is completely maddening, and I will return this if I cannot find some simple solution.  Given this design flaw, I have looked into remapping/reassigning the PgUp key to become the Right Shift key.  I have read that it is possible to remap other keys, but I have not seen anything for my specific situation.  I would imagine that there are myriad yoga 710 owners who would greatly appreciate this fix.  Thanks for all your help!!!

On my brand new yoga 710, from time to time, the screen with start to do small shifts vertically.  Windows is up to date, went through and did intel specific driver scan, which came up with lenovo having a custom display driver set. Has anyone else experienced something similar to this.... this is my first touchscreen system I have ever dealt with, so I'm not sure how these custom drivers function.  It is about one pixel shift, which is not much, but enough to make me want to throw this thing out the window 4 days after buying.

Hi all, I bought a Lenovo S1 Yoga. The shift key only works with certain keys but not other, important ones like T. It is extremely inconvenient and makes this laptop unsuitable for work. Characters like the semi-colon are completely unavailable on this laptop now. I have already read through quite a few forum posts to find the solution. I have tried using the device manager to uninstall the keyboard, have used Lenovo vantage to find the latest drivers and install them and have also tried turning all keyboard ease of access ommands off. Nothing seems to fix this issue. It seems to be a software issue, rather than Hardware as the shift key works with about half of the keyboard. It does not fix itself when working on the command prompt. Please could someone provide an adequate solution to this problem. Thanks,SZ

On my Thinkpad Yoga S1, the keys t, y, backspace, enter, caplock, and left shift are suddenly not working. This seems to be a common problem on lenovo computers, but the lenovo forum administrator closed the only thread that attempted to address this without any solution. The lenovo admin said that too many diferent models were involved. I don't understand why these exact specific keys are affected on so many Lenovo models. Lenovo has no solution, and will not support a thread to work towards one. The Microsoft store already replaced my keyboard under warrenty over a year ago, but the YTP S1 is now out of warrenty. This does not seem to be a hardware problem given the relatively recent Keyboard replacement. Does anyone have any suggestions? I wont buy another Lenovo if this problem cant be solved. I've had tremndous problems with this computer and have found Lenovo to be unhelpful/unresponsive. This was an expensive computer when it was purchased.

I've had my TPY for a little over a year without any issues, but today I lost the ability to use the following keys: Backspace, Windows, Left-Shift, T, Y, Tab, Capslock, [, ]  in addition to some of the function keys. Using the onscreen keybaord or an external usb keyboard works just fine. I am unable to use the tab key at the BIOS screen, so it appears to be a hardware issue. This seems to be a common problem for these keys in particular for various Lenovo models and even some Dells. I have tried reinstalling the keyboard drivers as suggested in other posts, and I have tried reseating the keyboard connection according to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxHKvpI8Wvc I bought this unit from the MS store with only a 1 year warranty (which is now up), so I'm not sure what to do. I can try replacing the keyboard but it appears others have had only limited success with replacement. Has anyone else dealt with this problem?

Q: Shift+2

Hello again.
My keyboard language is not in english and there is one very uncomfortable thing - to get an @ sign i have to press
Ctrl + Alt + 2. Is there a way to change just one combination, the @ sign - to get it same way as english keyboard?

A:Shift+2

Hi Vibalik,

it's not possible to change just one item of your keyboardlayout. You'd have to change the entire keyboard layout to, for instance, 'US-International'. But this will probably effect more than 1 key in your case.

Another option would be to write a VisualBasic script that runs on the background and emulates a certain keycommand to the @sign. Check out the web for how-to's for this sollution.

Good luck.

It even overrides a Shift + P within an application which uses such a shortcut!

If no Windows folders are open, I can type Shift + P with no unintended consequences.

But no way can I get back to that sub-menu; I gotta literally quit and restart to get there. Does anyone want to save my sanity? Its probably ME missing something, but I can/t see it. Surely there must be a shortcut? The handbook iis less than explicit or helpful.. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Many thanks

If one shift key didn't work I would suspect a keyboard problem. If neither shift key works I would suspect you have inadvertently re-mapped the keyboard or you have virus situation.

The first possibility to eliminate is the virus. Do you have or can you run (from the net) a good AV app ?

Also, if possible, I would try another keyboard on this machine and/or try this keyboard on another machine. It's simple if you have another machine with the same type connector.

This has been happening for a while, but I've never been able to figure it out. I believe it started when I replaced my keyboard. The problem is when I'm playing some 3D games (specifically TES3: Morrowind right now, but I'm pretty sure it has happened with other games) and I make the key combination SHIFT+A+W (a very common key combination for my typical first person gaming control setup) whatever button is pressed last does not register in the game (pressing shift and w to run forward and i want to strafe left while running forward by pressing w does not cause me to strafe left) and the PC speaker (not my desktop speaker) makes a beep about a half second after I make the key combination. I know the problem DOES NOT happen while I am in windows explorer poking around (i get no beep when i make the key combination.) It doesn't happen in all games, either (Quake II works fine.) I've been through reformats and bios updates since the problem started. All I can guess is that the keyboard or the motherboard or the video card responds to those 3 keys special for some reason. Anyone have a clue what's going on?

System Specs:
Windows XP Pro
Athlon XP 2200+
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro
nVidia A7N8X motherboard PCB 1.06
the keyboard is a Memorex standard Windows keyboard PS/2, not USB (shows up as "Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard" in the device manager

Thank you for any help you might offer.

A:Shift+a+w

Go into the control panel, click keyboards, and make sure all the sticky keys, filter keys, and that stuff are off. Click the button in each one and disable the sounds in the next window.

The problem is most likely your keyboard...did you have to install and software when you put the keyboard in? If you did, then try removing that, and see if it works.

Maybe the keyboard is going bad or the connector is loose. Try unplugging and replugging the keyboard to start with, which is best done when the PC is powered off as sometime a PS/2 device can be damaged if it done when powered on.

Hi to all

I had a Dell XPS 1645 with a  500GB Seagate Momentus 7200.4 installed. The laptop was in full home network with file sharing etc all operating so the laptop Seagate HDD should still have all the information I require. It was getting a little tired but still worked fine. I was given a Samsung 512GB 840 Pro as a gift. I swapped it into the laptop as I had no other use for it, at the time, and it made a huge difference. Data transfer went smoothly, all was well. A few months later an unrelated event in a GPU collapse occurred, stuffed the laptop.. Wasn't worth the full repair costs. Before dumping the laptop I removed the SSD.
In the meantime I did a complete (serious) rebuild of my custom desktop and installed a  Samsung 830 x 128 GB as os with a Samsung 1 TB as storage drive.
The laptop had been a Windows 7 Pro and the PC A windows 7 Home. I had legitimate codes for both so, as a stopgap, temporary measure, I put the 512GB 840 Pro with Pro O/S installed in the PC. All went well with another Samsung 1 TB as the secondary drive (not in RAID). Then the 830 SSD collapsed, just out of warrant by a few days.
.  I did a complete reinstall back to Windows 7 Home Premium on the  512 x 840 SSD as main and re-installed the 1 TB as storage. I have no idea how or why but during the process of the complete re-install the data from the 1 TB drive was completely wiped. I remember happier experiences!

a huge pain in the backside. any thoughts?

I'd say it sounds a little like your mouse buttons are reversed. That is a Control Panel selection.

That doesn't explain why your keyboard would be non-functional, though.

Hi. As above. My shift keys are not working. They were initially but one froze then the next. Details below:

1) New laptop, never been connected online so unlikely to be a virus.
2) All other keys work okay.
3) Not a sticky keys issue as looked in to that and put them on/off a couple of times.
4) Not unique problem to application. Sam situation with PwrPt, Excel, Notpad etc.
5) Ctl+Alt+Del works for Task manager but not the Ctl+Shift+Esc (these are identical commands to bring up TskMgr).
6) Have rebooted maching a couple of times.

Please help!!

Ok well my dad did something on my pc which made the following changes...
pressing left shift and any other number instead of making the signs runs up programs that are pinned in the taskbar in that order...and left shift and p brings out some screen options instead of capital p
pressing right shift when on a webpage makes me go a page back....

i checked for the sticky keys and toggle keys but they were turned off...
what can be the problem or is it time for a new keyboard...

i dont notice any problems with the other keys but i dont use any other key as much as the shift key..

A:Shift Key problem

so i did some snooping around and found the left shift key is doing some functions that the windows button does...
but not all of them...so is there any tool by which the windows key is replaced by the shift key???

Hi it would seem that I am having some issues as of today with my keyboard acting up on me. it seem I can no longer use my shift keys [both right and left] as well as Esc and when I try to use them the following happens;
right shift = open calculator
left shift = open internet explorer
esc = reduces the master volume

I need help with this, I have tried looking on the web but couldn't find anything relevant. I even tried key mapping software [sharp keys] but doesn't seem to be the problem. when I press shift keys it does register as a shift key an even if I try to remap it to the same shift key it doesn't help.

I'm really hopping someone can help because it's really annoying.

Whenever I press shift down, and any other key, it freaks out. If I hold it down my screen starts changing color, from Light to contrast to livid. If I'm chatting with someone, and I try to make a question mark, or other thing. It just writes UI/PO. I have no idea what's going on, or why it's freaking out like this.

A:Shift key freakout.

Nvm, it was just the keyboard that sucked.
