Q: Satellite T110 - USB powered CD/DVD drive not recognized in BIOS

I have the T110, I can create the recovery discs in Windows but when I restart the computer and press F12 it shows no CD/DVD drive in the BIOS.

So I cannot restore from or boot from the external CD/DVD drive.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey,

I don?t have the notebook in front of me but check the BIOS if you can find an option called ?USB legacy support?. If yes you have to enable this feature that your notebook can recognize the external drive.

Can you boot from an USB stick? I mean you can also create the recovery files on an USB stick so this would be also an option to restore factory settings.

I own a Toshiba R630 and recently replaced the original disk with a Crucial SSD one, with a big performance improvement. I've been using the old Hitachi drive in an external case through the eSATA port without any problem, but this setup requires both the combo eSata/USB port and a second USB just for power, so I purchased a 9.5 mm caddy to put the disk on the DVD location.

Today I went ahead. Physically all went good (apart from the fact that I had to take off the back cover, more than 25 screws; I took the opportunity to clean the fan) but when I turned the computer on and accessed the BIOS the Hitachi disk is recognized as an optical drive!

You may see an image here:

After that I could enter Windows 7 (64), Disk Management recognizes it as a disk, but can't initialize it. After rebooting the computer I can't enter Windows any more, as it goes directly to recover mode.

Any help would be appreciated! Is there any way to make the BIOS recognize the second drive as an hard disk?

Carlos

A:Satellite R630 - second HDD recognized as optical drive in BIOS

First of all I would recommend you to check the boot device order.
Probably the ODD has been set first boot device and notebook tries to boot from the HDD connected to ODD controller.
If this will not work, remove the old Hitachi HDD, reset the BIOS to default and try to boot once again.

To be honest I?m not quite sure if the BIOS would support such configuration. I mean not all notebooks can be upgraded with an 2nd HDD and in many cases the BIOS would not support the HDD installed in the ODD bay? therefore this configuration may cause some problems.

Help !  Very frustrated since I purchased external hard drive Western Digital (WD) external hard drive "Elements 1042" for complete backup as well as a complete "Image" of Toshiba Satellite Pro T110 hard drive (120 of 240 GB used) -- using purchased NovaStor's "NovaBackUp software -- so it can be moved to my next laptop.

Running Windows 7 Home Premium operating system and all USB ports are fully functional but the software does not recognize a valid drive letter for the WD "Elements 32". Also, Windows Explorer does not display any drive letter for this external hard drive.

However, Windows "plug & play" worked since this WD "Elements 32" external drive appears as a device under Windows "Devices & Printers" window when reporting on all peripherals. It also reports under "Properties" as operational (no updated device driver available when checked that)

My ladyfriend Lori has an HP-Compaq laptop which has no issues recognizing this as a valid device with an assigned hard drive letter. She has USB 2.0 ports like my Toshiba Satellite Pro so the USB 3.0 ready external drive (WD "Elements 32") must be compatible with USB 2.0.

Could there be a USB port issue on my Toshiba Satellite Pro involving power (volts, watts, amps) that is somehow an issue when plugging in the WD "Elements 32" external hard drive ?

If so, is a possible "workaround" to use a "Cross Over" cable to connect my Toshiba with my friend's HP-Compaq where the extern... Read more

Dell Precision 4300 laptop T9300 2.5ghz processor running windows XP pro. Have a WD 400 passport external drive (powered through usb) that worked great for 6 months. Having problems recognizing the drive on usb port. Have a powered Hitachi drive that fine in the same port. Took WD passport and placed it on another computer and it works fine. When plugged into my laptop I can hear it fire up and the indicator light is on. WD troubleshot with me and we eliminated my drivers etc and same result. They warrantied the drive and new one has same issue. Tried a different cable. Dell troubleshot with me and diagnosed bad motherboard. Tech came to house and replaced motherboard with same results. Flashed bios and removed/installed drivers again same result. Drive will appear under device manager butI can't get to it. Part of my computer will lock up when drive in port and unfreeze when I pull it out. Also will see drive appear under my computer when removing usb cable. If I remove usb drivers and power up with WD plugged in occasionally I will be able to get to unit but it will freeze.

Another issue with the laptop: the Passport drive is not recognized in the USB 3.0 connector on this laptop, but it is on the 2.0 connector. The USB cable I am using is the one that came with it, it has the blue part and sticker that says 3.0.

I was able to put this drive onto the laptop in the 3.0 connector yesterday but not anymore. I tried disable and re-enable the USB Controller but that didn't work.

When I plug it into the 3.0 connector, it actually does get power to the drive - the light comes on and I can hear it spin, its just that Windows 10 won't see it.

Hello,

I just bought a new notebook Toshiba Satellite L50-B-2C8 and I also bought Samsung SSD 850 evo 250GB.
When I try to install the SSD drive instead my HDD the BIOS show "none" in Category SSD/HDD (BIOS not recognize the SSD).

Please help me.
My bios version is : 2.00v
*** someone told me that I need to downgrade my BIOS version to 1.2v, and then the BIOS recognize the SSD drive, so maybe someone here can send me a download link to the 1.2 version of my model L50-B-2C8 .
Thanks

A:Satellite L50-B-2C8 - new SSD is not recognized in BIOS settings

*** someone told me that I need to downgrade my BIOS version to 1.2v

And who? I mean are you sure that this person was right?
From my point of few there is no reason why early BIOS version should recognize the SSD drive and the newest BIOS version doesn’t…

But BIOS v1.2 for Satellite L50-B-2C8 PSKTQE series does not exists… the v2.0 (at this time) is the latest version and older BIOS versions are not available for this series.

Furthermore I guess you will need slimply check different SSD drive… it could be possible that other SSD drive would be recongized properly.

By the way: I’m owner of Evo 850 SSD drive and as far as I can remember I had to update the SSD drive firmware to use it properly in connection with my other notebook (not Toshiba unit)

I tried replacing the hard drive on my Inspiron 9300 with a 200G drive.  The administrative computer tools in Windows XP recognized it, but the BIOS showed it as 130G or so.  I finally had to replace the drive with a smaller one.  I had the latest BIOS version.  Is there a BIOS fix that will allow the larger hard drive to be used?

Not on the 9300s that use EIDE (parallel ATA) drives, no - the limit is 137G in BIOS setup.

I do not use my CD-Writer so I replaced the CD-drive and installed a caddy with my old HDD to have more diskspace.

I tried to change settings in the BIOS (according Toshiba utility the latest version) but even in the Bios is no information about the present SSD or the installed HDD. (or the CD-Drive when I re-install this drive again)

What is wrong here? Do I need an updated BIOS that allows the 2nd HDD?
Or do I overlook a setting somewhere?

It worked and i left the computer on until I bought a new battery thinking that was the problem (the old battery wasn't charging anymore).

Everything was ok for a few days since i made sure the new battery will always be full but yesterday i left it without the ac adapter and the battery got completely empty- and now it wont turn on again.

Please help. tnx

The beep codes means that an error on motherboard has been detected.

Could anyone please tell me how I fit a new power port in my Toshiba Satellite T110-121.
My daughters boyfriend was going to replace it, but they have since split up.

A:Power port replacement for Satellite T110-121

Hi

The replacement is very, very tricky because you have to disassemble the whole notebook unit.
You have to remove all parts before you will get access to the motherboard and to the DC in cable.

I don?t think you can do this without any step by step instruction and guidelines.

As far as I know and as suggested in this forum, the maintenance manuals are not available for common notebook users. Such manuals are released only for authorized service technicians and I think you will not be able to download such manuals but I think you can search in internet for some useful information and details.

For example you could take a look on irisvista.com website and could look for Satellite T110/T115 series how to disassemble such units.

But such disassembling is your own risk!

Hi all,

In traditional fashion, I've joined the forum because I have an issue but was unable to find a helpful solution.

I have a Satellite T110-11U that I purchased years ago while in the UK. As I'm about to upgrade I'm preparing it to give to a friend who currently has nothing.

The original HHD gave out a while ago forcing to fit new and load Win7 64bit independently. I'd like to say I have the reload disks but they never worked!

I've loaded up all the latest drivers but the WLAN driver doesn't work. Toshiba's website says I need an Intel driver (wlesslan-20150928095045) but I'm pretty sure it's a realtech interface.

I've connected the laptop to the internet via the LAN interface and done a search through device manager. Nothing. Still shows up 'other devices'.

Can anyone share a link to the driver I need or offer any handy but not too technical hints as to what I can do.

I love my Satellite T110-107 but there are issues with the TouchPad.

1). The mouse cursor doesn't move at times. With this one I can get it to move by taking both hands away from the laptop for a moment.
2). The mouse cursor suddenly 'shoots' off to the right hand of the screen.

I've tried changing the touchpad sensitivity to both the minimum and the maximum levels, i've adjusted the 'Palm' sensitivity but nothing seems to help other than by making the sensitivity low which helps a little.

I've also noticed that when the laptop is on my lap, the problem is worse than if it's on a table.

I think that it's a problem with a build up of static on the case.

Any other ideas?.

Hi

It looks like something would be corrupt in your user account.
Did you try to repair the OS or to clean the registry using CCleaner?

CCleaner is a free tool which cleans the registry and removes garbage from the HDD.
Try this.

Otherwise you can check the msconfig -> Startup tab.
There you should search for some entries containing the imagusud.dll file and could disable or remove this?

Good luck

A:Re: Most of times Satellite T110 webcam fails to initialize

Hi

Seems that the webcam software stopped working.
I think you should firstly try to reinstall this software.

Remove firstly the webcam software from the system.
Then clean the system and registry using CCleaner!
Reboot the notebook twice and run CCleaner several times to ensure that everything has been cleaned properly.
Then download the webcam software from the Toshiba European driver page and install it.
Then reboot the unit. Start msconfig (in RUN type msconfig) and go to Startup tab.
There you should uncheck mark from the webcam software. This will prevent the software from starting automatically. Reboot the unit.

Now if you would like to use the webcam go to All programs -> Toshiba -> webcam software and start it.

My Toshiba T110 netbook came with Windows 7 home, 64bit preinstalled.
I have some critical applications which will only run under the 32bit version so I have to downgrade.

I have ordered a 500Gb hard disc to install the 32 bit version (keeping the original disc for returning to 64bit if required in the future, since no installation discs were supplied, just a recovery partition). My expected difficulty will be adding the Toshiba specific programs for activating eco mode, switching WiFi and bluetooth via function keys etc. and sleep & charge etc.

Are the installation files for these programs available somewhere? and if so in 32bit versions?

Hi

Visit Toshiba support page and download area there and check what operating systems are support and what Toshiba stuff is offered for your notebook model.

Does anyone know the part number for a set of hinge/display supports for the T110-121?

Mine broke last week and I can't seem to source a replacement or suitable alternative.
Thanks in advance.

A:Satellite T110-121 - broken hinge/support bracket

Huh... it is not easy to get such information but, in my opinion, you don't need it. all Satellite T110 have the same hinges and there is no difference.
Different can be only mainboard and some other hardware components like HDD, Ram WLAN card and so on.

Basic stuff like hinges is the same. I don't know where do you live but try to use Google for your country and check if you can find ?Hinge Bracket Set or Laptop Hinges for Toshiba Satellite T110?.

Check also eBay for your country.

As the program TEMPRO was informing of a new version for the wLan driver, I uninstalled the current and installed the new one (Realtek Wireless LAN Adapter 8191SE/8192SE)

Since then I have *no wireless detection*. I had:

* installed the previous version
* let Windows7 install automatiquily the driver

Nothing worked out. Does anyone has had this problem, or a solution?

Thank you.

Have you tried to rollback the driver in device manager? I don't know much about your laptop, are you sure you install the righ driver?

Hi,

I'm trying to use the Web Camera that came with laptop, it's a Satellite Pro T110-11L.

It's running Windows 7 64 bits, and I've already tried to install web camera drivers for Windows 7 64 bits and even the XP version that Toshiba site has on drivers page.

Both web camera drivers fail when installing giving the error "DMICheck Application stopped working".

Can you help?

Thanks,
Hugo Figueira

A:Webcam driver fails to install using Win 7 64bit on Satellite Pro T110-11L

Hello Hugo

According notebook specification your T model was delivered with preinstalled Win7 64bit Professional. Original recovery image contains preinstalled webcamera software and it is set to start automatically so I would like to know since when you have noticed this problem.

I cannot imagine this problem persists from the day one. Am I right about that?

Do you still use original preinstalled OS?
By the way: THIS is the right webcam driver for your notebook model.

Hello,

after installing Win XP SP3 in the last windows update, the Toshiba tools as well as other CD/DVD-burning software don't recognize the DVD-ram drive as such, only as a CD-rom-drive.
Thus, software like recordIt doesn't work.

I have already removed the drive from the hardware list and have reinstalled it.
The driver used is "Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-841S"
That is correct, so far. But it doesn't burning CDs/DVDs.

Has anyone noticed this problem as well?

Thanks.

A:Satellite M100 - DVD-Multi-Drive not recognized as CD/DVD recorder (!)

Hi

I think it?s a lower upper filter issue and I think you could solve this following this step by step instruction.

First of all remove the ODD (CD/DVD) drive from the list in device manager.
Then access the registry and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Finally you should reboot the unit.

After that windows will recognize the ODD again

Hi,

In work we use Toshiba Satellite R630 laptops with U10 Dynadocks.

We have recently started to role out Bitlocker encryption using USB flash drives.
The idea being that we will have two flash drives - one for when out of the office and the other which will stay plugged into the Dynadock for when in the office.

Several of our users are having issues with the drive which is plugged into the Dynadock as Windows doesn't seem to recognise it at startup.
If we remove the drive from the Dynadock and plug it into the laptop port then it works grand.

Some of our users are working grand so its certainly possible for Windows to read the drive from the Dynadock during startup but for others it doesnt.

Any help appreciated.

A:Satellite R630: USB drive not always recognized plugged to Dynadock U10

I think we may now have a solution to this.

I checked the setup of the Dynadocks which worked against those which didn't. I found that the ones which worked had the USB key plugged into the bottom port on the replicator while the ones which didnt had it plugged into the top port.

They all now seem to be working grand. It may be that it ckecks the ports in order starting from the bottom on boot.

So I have multiple external monitors. When I'm not usually all of them, I turn the ones off I don't need. I just press the power button on the front of the external monitor.

The problem is when I move my mouse, it will still go in the direction of the monitor that's off, causing me to lose my mouse, because I can't see it.

Is there anyway to prevent the computer from seeing the external monitor when I have it powered off? The external monitors are Dell U2414h monitors and the laptop is Lenovo x230 Tablet with Windows 7. The graphics card is intel hd graphics 4000. Thanks.

Hello All,

I just installed a new ASROCK FM2A88M Extreme4+ motherboard in my home PC last week. I have a CM Storm Quickfire Rapid i keyboard and a SteelSeries Rival mouse attached to the top two USB ports on the back of the motherboard:

Ever since I got this motherboard I have been having frequent, random issues with my Quickfire keyboard. What happens is, after a cold boot, about 20% of the time the keyboard does not light up and is not recognized by Windows. I have to either reboot or pull the USB plug and put it back in to get it to work. I have also tried switching around the USB ports (swapping which port the mouse and keyboard uses) but that doesn't seem to work. (I didn't try the other "lower" USB ports because I assumed that, due to the position of the ones I am using, that they are meant specifically to be used for keyboards and mice.)

The Quickfire keyboard is new as well but I did have it before I got the ASROCK motherboard and i don't recall having this issue (at least not frequently enough to remember) so I am leaning towards the conclusion that it's an issue with the ASROCK motherboard.

My first question is, is there a way in Windows 8.1 (event logs, device manager, etc.) to see what exactly is causing my keyboard to not be recognized all the time?

If you were to make an educated guess would you say it's an issue with the motherboard or the keyboard? (Note that the Quickfire keyboard did not come with any drivers or software, everything is done... Read more

Right, so I recently upgraded my computer. I just need to install Windows XP onto my hard drive. The problem is, in BIOS, my CD Rom isn't getting recognized. I have a IDE to SATA adapter (this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812816113) to connect the CD ROM which as a old IDE connector, to the motherboards SATA ports, as it does not have any IDE ports.I also see that the LED for the adapter is on and I know that the switch is in the correct place. Please help. My motherboard is a EVGA P55V, which can be found here. http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6247549

Okay I have a vista machine I built my self a few years ago. Recently the power supply died and I replaced it with a bigger better one. 600 watts instead of 400. Machine works great, however, now it seems that external harddrives that are not powered from an external power supply (2.5 inch western digitals I have) are not recognized at all when I plug them in. Doesn't show up in device manager, disk management or anything. Nothing happens when I plug them in. The lights blink on the drives but nobody is home. They work fine on every other machine I have. Now, I know the usb ports put out at least some power because my iphone mounts fine and charges, even my 5th gen ipod which is a hard drive, charges and mounts, all flash drives work.... Could it be the external western digitals are not getting "enough" power, do the usb ports get power from another line that i might have forgotten to plug in? I thought those ports were all powered from the main power line that plugs into the Mobo all the other functions of the computer seem to be just fine. I've tried all 6 usb ports on the back and get the same result.

Any suggestions on what to try? Am at a loss. the drives are passport western digitals, I have a 60 gig and 120 gig...

A:external hard drives not recognized/powered in vista

1.) What's the make and model of your power supply? It's possible that it's underpowered for your setup.
If the power supply is generic, how many 12V rails does it have, and how many amps are on each 12V rail?

2.) Have you tried the drives on a different computer? If that problem is solved after trying on another computer, it's definitely your PC hardware causing the issue.
