Think Centre M series clean Win 10 install freezes

Q: Think Centre M series clean Win 10 install freezes

Puchased 2 Think Centres from a local university. No operating system on either. Tried installing Win 10 with media creation tool on flash drive then the ISO on DVD. The Windows logo comes on the screen and freezes. After about a min, it says something went wrong and restarts only to the same result. Someone said I need drivers but can you install drivers without an operating system installed? the units originally had Win 7.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi,
I'm having some problems with my new rig - windows 7 x64 installation doesn't recognize hard disks. All hardware is operational, it's recognized by BIOS and works with Win8CP, but can't make it work with W7.

I have Gigabyte's GA-990XA-UD3 rev1.1 motherboard. In BIOS I've turned on RAID, set up arrays in MB's raid tool - 2xSSD raid 0 (connected to SATA3_0 and SATA3_1 ports), 4xSATA2 raid 5 (connected to SATA3_2-4 ports). Drives are clean, empty and working; I don't have any issues with power (700W) or anything similar - everything works. Also I don't have any optical drives, all installations are from USB sticks, and that works too.

After booting to windows 7 installer and few initial steps, I get to the screen with boot drive selection and installer doesn't recognize the raid arrays; it asks for the drivers but none of the drivers from disk i got with MB work (divers downloaded from website don't work either). I did try to install them from repair tool too.

When installing Window 8 Consumer Preview my raid 0 array is recognized and windows installs correctly (it didn't recognize raid 5 array, but did 'see' 4 separate disks, and strangely two were disabled, but I figured I'll deal with it from windows...).

Anyone have similar problems or knows how to solve this? Or does anyone know a way to 'copy' drivers from w8 to w7 installation?

This is a production machine, so I don't want to keep Win8 and want to install Win7 x64...

Also, I should mention I'm using en_windows... Read more

This problem happened to all new version of updated Windows 7 installer. I think, it is due to failure of Windows installer to remain its detection to the USB drive. It lost the connection, and became confused, don't know where to find the USB drive it used to read before.

When we re-insert the USB drive, Windows installer will detect the USB drive back, and continue like usual.

I have a 2 yr old laptop in which I want to clean install, like literally going back to the clean state where I can choose what program I have to Install because there's a lot of bloatware included on my vaio.

Laptop Model
• Sony Vaio E Series VPCEG35EG

• Windows 7 Home Basic
• 2gb Memory, 320 HD

Can anyone guide me if there is some special order in installing drivers? What's about the FN-Buttons? Whats about the Assist and WEB Buttons? Are they all working?

I've searched the net & I can only see guides and tutorials for Sony Vaio Windows Vista, I'm planning to upgrade my OS from Windows 7 Home Basic to Windows 7 Ultimate, I also wanted to reformat my drive, I already created my back up & I'm now in the phase of researching how would I proceed with Clean Installation.

Please Help, Thanks in advance

I am trying to run a clean install after my computer crashed and the unmountable boot volume problem arose. When I try to Boot From CD/DVD, Windows loads (long white bar on bottom fills up over a minute or two), it starts the next Windows Corporation page that looks as if it's starting up the computer, then simply freezes on a black screen. My boot order is CD/DVD first and I am booting to the original OS disk. (If I try to Start Computer it comes to the blue screen of death, and when I try system repair it returns to that screen.)

Any ideas or links as to how to start the clean sweep/reinstallation process? Is there software I need to run a clean sweep?

Thanks.

Hey guys,

Alright, so my hard disk crashed a few days back (I was running XP Pro), so I decided to install 7.

My specs are:

Motherborad: Intel 82865GBF
Graphics: On-board 256MB graphics, they are handling the aero style well.
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz
Ram: 3 GB
HDD: 320GB
Now, here's the problem. I installed Windows 7 and it loads up fine. Then when i'm doing anything like browsing though empty folders or opening up the control panel, the compe freezes for a few seconds, the active window says 'Not Responding' in the title bar.

I took a closer look at the Cabinet and realised that when I tell the computer to do something, the HDD light doesnt light up, then I get the Not Responding, and then 10-20 secs later, the HDD light blinks and the Not Responding window starts working.

It does this for everything I do, the HDD light has a lag of 10-15secs after which it lights up and the computer does what I had told it to do.

BTW, the Aero glass interface works great, no lags whatsoever in that respect.

Also important to know is that the HDD is completely blank, it only has Windows 7 on it, I havent installed one file or application.

So I think this is a HDD problem since it just crashed a few days back, but I can't be sure.

Ohh, last problem, My keyboard doesnt work completely (it used to with XP), in Windows 7 i couldn't press Shift or Caps Lock and some other alphabets, today morning I could press shift and Caps Lock, but those same alphabets di... Read more

Okay, new problem.

Just restarted my computer and after the Starting Windows screen, all I get is a black screen with a mouse, and I can move the mouse around but nothing opens, and HDD light was blinking a lot at the Starting Windows screen but on the black screen, no blinking.

This reminds me of a virus my brother had on his laptop last week (running XP). His laptop was working fine and then he started it one day and after the windows screen it just goes black with a mouse pointer.

Hello have got stuck on what should be simple.

Have successfully already got the latest current 32-Bit Windows 8.1 (upgrade 1 etc.) running smoothly (since it was released to market) using the original retail Windows 8 Pro DVD Physical Media (from Amazon [pre-order]) to upgrade from within a running & activated copy of 32-Bit Windows XP Pro SP3.

Ideally would like to move to 64-Bit Windows 8 (then 10) to access 8GB of RAM.

Have just discovered that neither my 32-Bit or 64-Bit Microsoft Windows 8 Pro Upgrade DVD's will clean install with a single blank HDD.

Both Win8 DVD's boot, then the blue 4 panel Windows logo appears, then the white dots circular spinner appears below the blue Windows logo, then the entire screen goes blank to black (but remains powered on) and nothing then seems to take place - no HDD light activity any more - nor any DVD Drive light activity that stops as well - just slow light pattern changes on my lit up (Crucial Ballistix Tracer) RAM.

The desktop has been at black screen for just over an hour now (writing this on laptop) no HDD / DVD indicator light activity - even with a brand new SATA cable!

Any ideas how to overcome this weird problem as also would ideally like to be able to clean install just Windows 8.1.

Regards.

I tried repairing windows 7 startup, but it detected no errors. I tried a clean install but the problem stayed.

Hi there,

I recently acquired the computer listed in my specs, and was having 10 second freezes when running programs or just exploring the hard drive. I have XP Pro SP2. I figured it might be windows or something so I tried running a clean install. Just after it asks for SCSI or RAID drivers at the bottom it freezes and then blue screens on me saying "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer... blah blah blah, error code STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF7CAE524,0x00000C34,0x00000000,0x00000000). So I ran the Windows disk checker after booting in my original XP Pro SP2 and it gave me the same blue screen. AFAIK I have 2 Western Digital 74GB HDs in RAID 0 configuration... I surmise RAID 0 was installed incorrectly or I have a bum hard drive.

What is the right step to take from here?

I'm trying to install a 'clean' installation of vista
I already have vista on my computer as my operating system but I have been experiencing problems.
I'm booting from the vista disc, and everything seems to be working correctly until after the first start up. Once I get to the screen where it says 'completing installation', suddenly it just stops working. It's not really frozen, but it will not continue the installation. I've tried installing it around five times and this has happened every time.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hi everyone. It seems I have the worst luck with Windows these days, but here is my problem.

I have made two clean installs of Windows 2000 Professional today trying to figure out a problem. It all started with my first install. It was behaving funny, freezing on startup (after desktop icons loaded) every other reboot or so. I put the latest Via chipset drivers on there, and nVidia video drivers (to get out of 16 color mode) and then the freezing upon boot seemed to stop.

I had already made the mistake of installing a few applications such as Firefox and Atomic Clock Sync, etc. Not only did it crash on boot every other boot or so, it would always freeze 2-3 minutes after starting a VNC session (using RealVNC). I tried troubleshooting those problems all evening, and I thought I would just start clean, in case something happened along the way.

So an hour or so ago, I started the 2000 install process again. It went fine and didn't have any problems. I installed a firewall first, just to be sure I didn't get the new install infected in any way. I went to download the nVidia drivers so I could actually see things in a decent resolution and color quality. That went fine as well.

I installed RealVNC and tried it from another machine. Speed was nice and fast, but just like before, it freezes the whole computer after 2-3 minutes, and I have to do a hard reset. Same result with UltraVNC I'm afraid.

I posted this in the Windows forum because I've checked ou... Read more

I have a Asus Zenbook laptop (UX31). I crushed my MBR and somehow I couldn't ever restore it so I did a new clean install (even though I have a Windows.old folder with most if not all of my old files).

And so the usual boring process began: download drivers, installing them, installing the usual software (Avast, Comodo firewall, Chrome, Office, Adobe programs...) and almost on top of that I began doing lot of work with it, sadly I have almost no time to lose.

Somewhere in that process I started noticing some performance problems: doing different things (open a new chrome tab, clicking a link, open folder, clicking low workload buttons in any program) makes the whole thing freeze for 1-4 seconds. Most of the times the mouse can still be moved during the freeze moment, other times even the mouse is freezed for those 1-4 seconds which is more annoying.

In the last install nothing like this happened, system was perfectly fluid. As far as i can remember I have installed the same drivers from the same Asus page, and the same software. Obviously something is different.

I had the suspicion it was COMODO firewall that was freezing things (its alert windows usually freeze more consistently) so I temporarily "disabled it": but problems persist.

Can you help?

if anyone can provide me the solution for the problems stated above.please do reply.

A:Problem after installing a clean copy of Vista home premium from Windows media centre

Could be hardware compatibility issue. You should call HP and see if there are any incompatibilities in vista that is related to your Webcam.

QuickPlay

What version of quickPlay was is it? QP version 2.3 is only XP compatible. Vista is only compatible with version 3.0 or later, therefore if the version you have is below this then an upgrade is required.

HelpSvc.exe processes dominate the list and continue to open when I view through task manager (which I can only view if I open immediately on startup) and the only way I can stop this is to end process tree, once I have done this everything seems fine. I have tried disabling help and support through services.msc but this only makes the matter worse as pop ups, on start up, telling me help and support is disabled occur even faster than the help and support ones. Hello there.First time poster here. I've used a few other services in the past (with great success) but my research on this current round of infection brought me here so I figured I'd give you guys a whirl. I apologize for the length. I've got some crazy stuff happening here:In the middle of browsing with Google Chrome last night, I was just absolutely ambushed. The AntiSpyware Soft infection went absolutely nuts out of nowhere. Little red Windows security badges (like when your anti-virus is out of date) kept appear in droves in my task tray (like 15-20 at a time). I ended up getting rid of the worst of that between my AV (Avast) and MalwareBytes, but there is some very bad stuff still left on the box.I regularly update SpywareBlaster and use MalwareBytes, Windows Firewall and Avast to keep the system safe. Not sure where this thing came from or why this particular computer (second time in 4-5 months now) is vulnerable. Some symptoms:Windows doesn't fully "boot" - I hardly ever hear the startup sound. If I do, it comes about 20 minutes after I've already started to see the desktop and have already been able to preliminarily navigate Windows. The reason I know this is happening is two fold: (1) If my mouse goes anywhere over the tasktray or taskbar, it turns into an hour glass. I have to Alt-Tab to navigate programs. (2) Icons that normally appear in the tray do not show up until that Windows Startup Sound happens (which sometimes never happens). ... Read more

Hey guys, I've been trying to fix this myself but with no luck. Maybe you can give me some tips? I think it is a hardware issue which I have little to no experience with.

It all started when I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 x64 from my Vista x64. I had nothing of importance on the computer, so why not do a clean install and start fresh? It installed fine and rebooted several times until the computer had the Setup Is Checking Video Performance, it froze on that screen. I had to reboot it and now here is my current issue.....

Installation is going fine, goes to Completing Installation and then reboots..Then shows a black screen with blinking cursor for 5 minutes. Then restarts itself and has Windows Recovery Error. I chose Start Windows Normally and it goes to Starting Windows screen with the logo. I've tried letting it sit there for 30 minutes until it restarts itself and states..Windows failed to start. A recent software or hardware change may be the cause..etc etc..

...So basically it's just a constant cycle of Starting Windows screen and Windows Recovery Error screen Unless I press f10 to go into the Boot Options.

If anybody could give any advice, I would greatly appreciate it. I already installed Windows 7 on my laptop so I know it's my desktop which is causing the issues..

Hi,

The answer is yes it will, if you do a destructive install (Format "C") & it has not infected any other drives.

So, what drives do you have on your system? "C" (System) & "D" (Recovery) plus DVD/CD drives.

Do you have anything else? USB plug in hard drives or USB memory sticks etc. etc.

Hi BC,
Couple months ago I spent some time in your malware forums trying to resolve issues with a constantly running Windows 7 media center which I noticed was running - not my - porn and bitcoins through. I also can not get my USB Network Adapter to connect to my wireless router. The adapter is installed correctly and recognizes my network along with others in the area. The network is also OK as I have other computers in the family which are connecting to the internet with no problems.
I keep getting messages that 'RPC Service is not available, yet it is set to Automatic and is Started. Also had a message that DCOM Service was not available but I cannot get that to start, it flashes up the 'RPC' message then lists itself as Starting.

Hi Guys
BACKGROUND: Im relatively experienced technical windows guy but I wanted some top tips please rebuilding my XPS17 (L702X tag D6F23S1) after my HDD started corrupting files & registry after 5 years use.
I swapped it for an SSD, now I have some challenges which I'd love some help / wise advice with.
I WOULD LIKE TO: Either recover the image from data (need help) or do a full format of the Windows partitiion (ensuring I have all the right drivers) and begin the painful task of a rebuild.
CURRENTLY I HAVE DONE THE FOLLOWING:
1. Imaged the original HDD and applied the image to the SSD.
2. I have tried a new install of windows which has installed to the original drive but leaving only 10% space free.
3. When I break out of the boot sequence I dont get the Dell Recovery option but i can see the Recovery partition in 'Disk Management'.
4. I cant find the recovery discs easily (think house move and everything in the attic situation) made originally but I do have the data on my network NAS and can copy over to a USB stick - I have tried to boot to the USB but I cant make that happen.
QUESTION:
A. Is there a good guide that allows me to download and boot to a recovery environment, format the C: drive and reinstall windows?
B. Is there anyway I can download software which can utilise existing data I have to recover the original windows state please?
I'd be grateful for any advice you can give!
Many thanks

Do you a regular Windows 7 installation disk, with Product Key?

If so, boot from that disk by setting your DVD drive as the first boot device in the BIOS or by choosing the DVD drive from a menu. Do you know how to do that?

Midway in the installation process you will come to a screen that asks where you want to install Windows. Look for "drive options, advanced" or something very close to that. Take that choice.

At the next screen, all of your partitions will be shown. Delete them all.

That will leave you with nothing but "unallocated space".

When you install to the unallocated space, it will be automatically formatted by Windows and you should end up with a very small "System Reserved" partition and a large C partition covering the rest of the drive.

Back up your data before beginning.

Windows.old is your old installation. If you proceed as above, you won't get it.

With 3 GB of RAM, you should probably go with 32-bit.

Finally decided to wipe my drive and reinstall windows.   PC has been working good but lately started acting strange with intermittent connectivity and the just yesterday all connected wifi devices lost their log info so that was odd.  Today when I rebooted this PC, I saw the original windows start up screen you'd see if during a fresh install or a restore and that's not right.  Finally I took at look at event viewer and saw a new NT user was added and I didn't do that so here we go again.   This time I suspect the vectors is a compromised Gateway which I have reset but will need to replace with better quality equipment than the junk Comcast is renting me.  This prompted me to run Farbar and come back to the forum for help.

Hi, a few weeks ago I kept getting BSODs. I thought this was due to a faulty GPU driver, which I replaced with the recommended one over at the AMD forum. The new driver worked OK for a few days but then I kept getting msgs sayying 'system just recovered from unexpected system error'...

Now, when I boot up my system, it makes the usual noises when starting up but I get nothing on the monitor!!

I started a thread on this over at AMD forums but they don't tend to be so responsive and they seem to have site issues all the time. Anyway, hopefully some kind folk here can help me get over the latest phase of Windows woe. Obviously, I couldn't use the DM tool due to not being able to access my system.

The original thread is here, which should contain all the necessary information:

https://community.amd.com/message/2647347#170476

I think I might need a 'system restore disk' but I don't have one.

Also, how compromised is my data? Thanks. Look forward to your responses.

I'm guessing I might have to do a reinstall of Windows 7. If I do that, will my HDD be erased or will the old files simply show up? In other words, will just the Windows system files be installed anew?

Anyway, here's the scan data from my computer:

Hi
Scratching me head a little here.
Just installed ATA centre on a domain joined Server 2019.  Ran through the wizard selecting the paths to install and the certificate I created etc.
Once the installer completes, I click launch, bypass the "This site is not secure" message, and then I get the HTTP500.  Browser is IE
ATA service is running, MongoDB is too.
Tried uninstalling and re-installing then using the self signed cert = same results.
I have done a massive amount of googling, but not come across any help.
Was wondering if anyone can help?

I have been having some strange things happening to the machine (running XP) which I use at my work for a few weeks now. I have a feeling I also may have downloaded some rogue programs in trying to fix these problems before starting to understand the situation more so this may have accelerated my problems.

I just used to run AVG for protection. The first detections were always seemingly random number .exes and if I remember correctly it was described as Heur/win32 or something similar in the system32 folder I think.
This would usually happen shortly after opening a browser (I would use both explorer and firefox for different functions). These would pop a few times after opening a browser and them every now and again whilst on the net.

After coming across the bleepingcomputer site and the Preparation Guide I downloaded Ad-aware and Spybot and got these scanning automatically and after a while these numbered 'heur' problems seemed to disappear.

What started next (as detected by AVG) were 'Trojan Horse Backdoor Generic 10 KDS' found in the system32 folder again. This was similar in that they popped up after opening browsers or restarting the machine. Because I was at work and had things to do I would just put them in the vault and delete and keep working and put the scanners to run while I wasn't there hoping they would pick it up and put them in the vaults or delete etc. I had also read that you should have Browsers closed while scanning and during my day... Hi, I've read a lot of other posts about the same issue I'm experiencing but have so far been unable to solve.

[I reinstalled Windows 7 using the Upgrade option (not clean install) but before I could do the reinstall it said I had to uninstall Ati Technologies which I could then reinstall after the upgraded Windows]

I ran install for the Catalyst Softward Suite for drivers which had the CCC listed, but there is no CCC option in the install list when I run to install. It just doesn't appear! I've uninstalled ATI Catalyst Install Manager, ran Driver Sweeper in safe mode and then reinstalled but still the CCC does not appear in the list. I've also checked the Windows/Assesmbly key problem too. It's the same problem as this post: Catalyst Control Center missing/Wont install

I have a Radeon 4000 series card.

A:Catalyst Control Centre doesn't appear on list in Install Manager

Anyone? The driver version says it's 8.634.0.0 from 2009...I can't get new drivers on there.

Around once a month, my laptop's keyboard will randomly stop working out of nowhere. It doesn't matter if I am playing a game or just simply browsing Google Chrome. At the same time, the power button stops responding as well. The only way for me to turn off my laptop is to open up the panel under the laptop and pull the battery cable out. After replugging in the battery cable and rebooting, my laptop goes back to normal until a month later when one of these random freezes happens again.
I've tried factory resets and system restores but nothing has solved this problem. I was thinking that the root of the problem being with the actual keyboard's hardware but I am hesitant to open up my laptop unless I'm absolutely sure of the cause.
If anybody has also experienced this issue or has any suggestions, they are greatly appreciated.

hello
I had many problems with BSOD crashes, and decided to make a new clean install (SSD or harddisk).
If I make a new clean install (no upgrade) is it enough to create 1 continuous unallocated disk and then it will make a clean install
Or do I have to "clean up" my old disk first before making a clean install?

A:Clean disk before clean install?

You can delete all of the partitions on the disk that you're installing Windows to. The installer will automatically create the partitions that it needs (2 for an MBR disk, 3 for GPT), and format them. It takes very little time, at least on an SSD.

There's this novo key on the side that it brings onekey recovery if i shut my laptop and then press it, would it work later after a clean install of windows OS and reinstalling onekey recovery? Is there anything that is really useful by Lenovo that I'm going to miss out on, if i do a clean install? Hi
I have looked through solutions for this issue, but the suggestions don't seem to fix my issue...

I am running Windows 7 SP1 Pro 64-bit on a Dell Optiplex 760, and try to do a clean install of Windows 10, using the ISO file which I downloaded from Microsoft & burnt on to a DVD, and instructions from the tutorial on here, which are very good. I downloaded the correct 64-bit version.

I boot from the DVD, enter my region (UK), and choose custom install, and then my hard drive does not show up on the list of where you would like to install. I have all my USB's unplugged (except keyboard/mouse).

I tried deleting my partions using MiniTool Partition Wizard (bootable DVD), so that the entire disk is unallocated. That didn't fix it. I also tried creating a new partition (NTFS) of the entire drive (to get one Primary NTFS partition). That didn't work. I also tried setting that partition as 'active'. The same.

Before formatting etc, I tried a boot from the Windows 7 install DVD, and the hard drive does show up, unlike the Windows 10 DVD.

Do you think it's an issue with the Windows 10 installer?

I downloaded another version of Win10 from the MS Tech Bench page, but same issue.

After formatting etc, during the Windows 10 boot, I tried another suggestion to open up Command Prompt (Shift + F10), and ran 'diskpart' - and no drives are found. I checked the Bios, and it was there.

So presumably that is the issue. If i ran 'diskpart' with my prior Windows 7 install, diskpart sh... Read more

A:Windows 10 clean install - hard drive doesn't show up before install

Welcome toTenforums, Simon.

I am a little concerned that the Windows 10 setup program on DVD does not have drivers to properly see and interrogate the system on your PC so that the hard drive is visible. It's the second similar case on this forum that I've seen recently. You also seem to be trying to clean install on an empty PC - is this correct, because if you do so It will not activate.

After much to-ing and fro-ing, it was finally possible to *copy the Sources folder from the setup ISO file onto a partition on the hard drive, and run the setup from there, where it wasn't possible to boot from the DVD, even though it worked elsewhere.

If you still have Windows 7 installed (and you should do for Windows 10 activation purposes - if just to obtain a genuine ticket for digital entitlement), and you have the ISO download available, the solution is fairly simple. If you haven't you will need the Windows 7 key to activate the install.

You seem pretty PC savvy so, I'd ask you to follow the bolded instructions from the * in the 5th para above.

Originally I set it to install and walked away came back hours later so I wasn't at the pc watching things. Anyways I managed to damage some files or something and for whatever reasons i could not figure out how to repair them. The microsoft forum was a bust no even one person tried to help me so I got sick of waiting and deleted the partition on the drive and made a new one and formatted it within the installer loaded from boot of the vista CD. That part went fine and quick. However when arriving at the step where its expanding files it took almost an hour before it spun up the CD and began increasing beyond 0%. From there up to 5% at best increases (avg 3%) then the CD spins down and idles for at least several minutes and then spins up gets a little farther and repeat. Basically the amount of time its just sitting there is probably 20 times or more longer than the time its actually progressing. Why is this? Is it supposed to do that? It seems odd to me that it wouldn't just keep spinning the CD and continuously progressing. Especially on a system with a dual core 3.2 ghz and 2GB of ram installs should zip through no time at all. I'm sure the install will be done before anyone replies but i thought I would check here in case its something I should be concerned about as a possible problem with my system.
