Preferred Solution: WWAN for my new X1 carbon. fibocom?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I want to know if a Lenovo P52 WWAN card will permit me to use that laptop as an additional device in our Google Fi account, which we use for our Android phones.  The card Fibocom L850-GL 4G LTE-A cat 9 is listed as available for P52 workstations.  A Fi chat said that I should use a "data only SIM card", but that does not help me unless I know how to use that in the P52.   I understatnd that the Fibocom card is supposed to work with Verizon, but I want to know if it will also work with Google Fi.

Hi all, Am running an X1 6th Gen, in which my Fibocom 850-GL has been sporadically working. 1. The device does not appear in Device Manager under Network Adaptors at all (even if I search for hidden devices)2. Lenovo Vantage picks up that the device drivers need to be updated, and asks me to download the update3. The update runs, and when the laptop reboots, a small white install box appears in the bottom right of the window... and then does nothing.4. A few seconds later, the Windows 'Device Disconnected' chime sounds5. A few seconds later, the Windwos 'Device Connected' chime sounds6. I can re-install the drivers7. Cycle back to point 2.  I'm unable to uninstall the device as it doesn't ever show in device manager; just constantly get Windows finding / un-finding the device, and it never installs. Running latest version of Windows 10; Vantage + Windows seem to think everything is updated. Thanks in advance!

I bought X1 Carbon 6th and X280, both with Fibocom L850-GL. WWAN with Linux do not work. I searched and found the reason. The PCI-E must be disabled, so that the card can run with USB. It seems that Lenovo did not offered a solution since July 2017.  I searched but do not find any direct contact to Lenovo to ask the question.  The WWAN is important for me and Windows is no option anymore. Anybody know if there is an other WWAN card wich works with Linux  and X1 Carbon 6th / X280 ?Anybody know if there is a chance that Lenovo solve the problem with a bios update? Many new Lenovo Thinkpads have this Fibocom L850-GL inside and many business user use Linux...

Over the last few weeks, I've had at least a half dozen T480s that have severe spikes in latentcy and packet loss when using the Fibocom L850-GL, making them pretty much useless for our users who need them for remote desktop. The usual "working" baseline for these machines on our network is around 40-70ms pings. Show below are the occasional spikes past 3 seconds and timeouts along with the current firmware.    The work around I was using to fix this problem was uninstalling the drivers/firmware from Device Manager, and letting Windows reinstall them, but that doesn't seem to be working anymore.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello All, New T480 with the Fibocom L850-GL wwan card. Clean install of Windows 10 Pro x64, Redstone 4 (v. 1803). All Windows Updates applied. All Lenovo updates applied through the Vantage app via the Microsoft Store, and manually checked from the support page of the website (BIOS, WWAN, etc. updates). Following the manual, I pulled the external battery, disabled the internal battery, then inserted my T-Mobile USA sim card, then reassembled everything, then rebooted. Manually installed the latest L580-GL drivers from Lenovo. First off, the L850-GL is being shown as a USB device, as opposed to PCIE, with a hardware device instance path of USB\VID_8087&PID_0AC9&MI_00\7&4FA6012&0&0000, and a hardware location of 0000.0000.0000.003.000.000.000.000.000 in the properties dialogue screen in Device Manager. The Driver tab shows the provider is Microsoft with a date of 4/10/2018 and a version of 10.0.17134.1.... I suspect much of that to be a sign that something isn't right from the get-go... Second, every time I close the lid of the machine or leave it running long enough to enduce the proper level of sleep/hibernation, the card simply stops (with a hardware error 43 warning in Device Manager). At that point, my "T-Mobile LTE" network option no longer appears in the Windows 10 notification/network connections sidebar. My only recourse thus far has been to uninstall the L850 in device manager, "Sca... Brand new device and install of Win 10 1809, updated, with the latest Lenovo Fibocom L850-GL drivers installed and verified, APN configured, IPv4 set to DHCP, network reset, card disabled and reenabled, etc - basically all the remedies I could find. The WWAN connection has not worked once despite two days of trying to get it to work.It reports "No service", twice it got to the point that I could click "Connect", but it never connected. The SIM works fine in X1C3 with Windows 7 or in an old Android phone. I am getting rapidly frustrated with Windows 10 being the only option and the dismal state of drivers:1. No Synaptcis touchpad driver, thus much less configurability of the features, no side scrolling2. External microphone level is extremely low, unclear why, even with the boost set to 20dB3. Harware microphone switch in some cases misses a device, so the microphone may not be muted in the end4. WWAN impossible to get working This is simply too many issues, the device is not nearly usable as it should be. I am completely disappointed. Bill

Can anyone say if I purchased the Sierra em7345 card for my x1 Carbon, which carrier (in USA) will I have to get a service plan with? Can It work with any carrier?

A:X1 Carbon 3rd Gen WWAN Card

HelloIt's simpler to answer about carrier and access mode (LTE, 3g) you prefer as this modem supports dozen of the US operators as well doesn't support a big part of them, including market leaders like Sprint, or supports partially (i.e.not every frequency band the carrier operates in). Also, not every operator's network covers entire US area.

How can I add a wireless card to the Carbon X1?  The original answer was "can't be done" becuase the computer is a sealed case and has no capability for it.  I call BS!!  The computer obviously has a slot for it, a Sim card holder, and the option to order it from the factory with wireless.  How to add wireless to a non-wireless Carbon X1?

Moderator note: edited subject to match content.  Was:  Docking stations for X1 Carbon.

A:X1 Carbon: add WWAN card

You don't say which generation X1C you have, but AFAIK you can add a WWAN card.  Instructions are in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your particular model.

The challenge will be antennas if they aren't already installed, and finding a card that passes the BIOS whitelist.

This isn't something I can address in detail, but if you'll list your MT-M - like 20FB002SUS as an example of a WWAN-upgradable unit - others will probably be able to help.  (Upgradable means that the antennas are already in place.)

Hello and welcome,

Here's the spec page on your model.  "WWAN upgradable" means no WWAN card, but the antennas are in place.

Compatible WWAN cards are listed in the BOM.

Hello, just got an X1 Carbon 4th generation and was excited to test out the full capacity of the EM7455 LTE module. I know the module is capable of USB3 SuperSpeed.  This is documented in the datasheet from Sierra Wireless for example: https://www.sierrawireless.com/-/media/iot/pdf/datasheets/sierrawireless_airprime_em_series_datashee... And as far as I know, the additional USB3 differential pairs have been part of the m.2 spec ever since it was NGFF.  So the disapointment was big when I discovered that the EM7455 only showed up as a "High Speed" (480 Mbits/s) device on the X1 Carbon.  For example (from  /sys/kernel/debug/usb/devices on Linux):  T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=01 Cnt=01 Dev#= 34 Spd=480 MxCh= 0

I have the model # 20KH-002SUS X1 Carbon, it says on the Lenovo website that that it does not support the Fibocom L850-GL 4G LTE-A cat 9. I am aware, But it's the same motherboard so I'm a little confused. I asked a technical person there: "Does it even have the slot for the card?" and he replied with No the slot isn't there, but I opened it and the slot it there, there is just no WWAN card in it, so what exactl yis not supported? If I was to go and buy the card, the: Fibocom L850-GL 4G LTE-A cat 9, and connect it with an aux and antenna cable, what is stopping that from being supported?Would I have to go and find missing drivers that aren't supported by the "lenovo vantage" because that only grabs drivers for my model #?That's the only answer I can come up with. And if that's the case if I buy the card slot it in and connect it and find the drivers outside of vantage and get them manually it should work. But when I ask I am being told it won't. But I don't see what is stopping me from going and buying a card and connecting it and finding the drivers manually, the slot is there on the motherboard, it's the same one, what am I missing????

I even messaged with customer support before I ordered it to ask if it works on LTE w/ a verizon sim card. they said yes. https://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-x/ThinkPad-X1-Carbon-6th-Gen/p/22TP2TXX16G?g...I put the sim card in, but for the life of me can't figure out how to activate it. In other discussions of previous generations it says it was an option. Is it the same on this? It's one of the reasons I got the machine! Will they let me return it without a restocking fee if this is the case? I really wanted an always on laptop

A:X1 Carbon 6th Gen WWAN 4G LTE? sim card but no modem?

What's the model number of your laptop (e.g. 20KH002QUS, 20KH002KUS, 20KH002HUS, ...)?

Hello, I buyed X1 Carbon and I try use modem LTE with Vodafone IT sim (I have Windows 10 Pro), our company use dedicated APN, I try connect with ip in auto assign but nothing, I need set fix ip (I can do it becouse im IT Manager and so reserved IP for mine, my user used auto assign and I can't reserve ip for them) and with this I can connect without problem. When I have old laptop and use Vodafone Key, without using vodafone software but using integrated w10 software, I can optain ip with auto assign. Have you some suggest to solve this problem ?Thanks M.
