Need help running Comodo Backup

Q: Need help running Comodo Backup

I'm an old guy in poor health on a limited income with a patched together home network of really old hand-me-down computers.

I used to back-up the data from my computers onto tape drives, but that system finally failed so now I'm without any way to backup my data.

I've downloaded and installed Comodo Backup, but can't figure out how to get it to work. I've tried posting in the Comodo Backup Help Forum but that forum has little activity, so most of the help requests posted there in the last two months haven't received a single reply.

I'm wondering if this would be an appropriate place to ask for help, either in figuring out how to get Comodo Backup to work for me or in finding a backup program that is more suitable to my admittedly limited computer skills.

Preferred Solution: Need help running Comodo Backup

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am operating a computer with the Microsoft XP program and have been using Comodo Backup software. It undertakes a scheduled backup each night while I sleep. For the past three days, when I open the screen in the morning, it shows an error message. "Backup failed error code 100021". The Help section of the Comodo program does not provide any reference to failed backups that I can find. Can anyone tell me how to resolve this problem? I have tried rebooting the computer, but the problem remains. Should I re-load the Comodo program?

I did try downloading the TSG Sysinfo program as you suggest, but have been unable to find it in my list of programs. If you advise me simply how to do that and obtain the log, I will do so.

With thanks in anticipation.

How good is Comodo online backup? Anyone have experience with this program?
Is this unlimited storage?

Thanks for the help.

A:Comodo online backup questions

The Comodo backup program comes with no online storage as standard; if you want to backup online you'll need to have access to an FTP server or subscribe to the Comodo Online Storage service here.

Adrive offers 50gb of free online storage, but you have to pay if you want to connect via ftp. Fabrik offer 2gb free with no limitations; useful for backing up email and smaller documents.

Hi,

Just started setting up my backups with Comodo but suddenly realized that seemingly no name is associated with a backup. In my case I trying to create the following backups:
1. critical files: full/each-Sun
2. critical files: Inc/daily
3. studio files: full/1st-each-month
4. studio files: Inc/each-Sat
5. resource files: full/15-each-month
and so on...

But is it possible to create multiple backups using Comodo?? Or, am I just changing the full and Inc backups over and over again!!!!

How, for instance, can I check and/or change my 'critical files' backup?

I have almost a T-Byte of data (I do 3D animation) which is why I like to breakup my backups.

Thanks,
Rusty

A:Comodo Backup: Can I create multiple backups??

I've never used Comodo Backup so I have no first hand knowledge of how it works. But under "Features" it says:

Quote:
Make use of the versioning capabilities to keep track of your backup changes.

Source

This leads me to believe that it should be possible to save different backup versions/images rather than just updating a previous backup. I use Macrium Reflect and the native Windows 7 backup utility. Macrium assigns each backup a unique identifier. Windows 7 calls each backup image WindowsImageBackup. To save any WindowsImageBackup all I have to do is rename it to something else. Perhaps this could be better answered through GeekBuddy or the Comodo email support (backupsupport<at>comodo.com).

Any assistance appreciated. I am trying to backup my favorites/bookmarks in Comodo Browser, and can`t seem to get the job done. From what I`ve read, I should go to the bookmark manager in the browser, and there I should find the ability to export bookmarks. I do not have/cannot find export on my Comodo Browser bookmark manager. Does anyone know of a workaround, or what I am doing wrong? You would think this would be so simple, but I have been trying to accomplish this all day by searching TSG, and the web with no results. Thanks for taking the time.

A:Solved: Not able to backup Comodo Dragon favorites

I`m going to go ahead and mark this as solved so no one wastes any time on it. I never got it figured out(3 days is enough), I ended up drinking a pot of coffee, and going to each link in my Comodo Browser favorites, writing the link down, then using Firefox to go to each link, and saved them one by one in Firefox favorites. I then made my favorites backup with Firefox. It sure wasn`t pretty(wife said I was nuts), but I accomplished the mission, slow and sure like the turtle. Thanks to anyone who took time to look.

Hi ? I am trying to setup a Win7 Pro PC backup so that the primary user does not have any admin rights. Setup Standard user login and then another separate login for file backups.

Created a new login called Backup1, and assigned this User Account to the Backup Operators Group, and Users Group. Rebooted, and logged in as Backup1. Attempted to run Backup. Get the following error:

The backup application could not start due to an internal error:
You must be logged in as an administrator to perform this task.
0x81000010

I then get presented with all existing User Accounts including Administrator and the option to enter the Admin Password. If I select Admin and enter Admin p/w it works ok. If I select any other option the backup fails.

I am at a loss as to how to sort this ? I understood that adding a User Account to the Backup Operators Group would allow that User to run Backup (only) without the necessity of entering an Admin password. Can anyone assist me with this please - I have had a look through this forum but cannot see anything obvious to look for.. Thanks in advance.

A:Backup Operator Group - problem running Backup

I thought you had to be a member of Admin AND Backup Operators Group.

FWIW, I noticed that when getting ownership of the WindowsImageBackup folder, security shows me now in Backup Operators Group. Then again, this is a System Image and not a folder "Backup".

My logon is single, admin/user.

Seems others are having this problem. Even saw someone label it a UAC bug. I don't know much about UAC, but is it worth trying to lower UAC all the way to the bottom and try this again?

A:Comodo: Comodo Internet Security installs and starts a VNC server by default

LOL...

I knew there was a VNC associated with GeekBuddy, so I never installed it.

Even with the fix - don't install GeekBuddy - nor Chromodo, Dragon or Ice Dragon; a user doesn't need any of them.

A lot of the controversy associated with the above due to dodgy practices.

Other than that, COMODO Internet Security is decent security soft using Proactive Security at default settings.

I was backing up to an external Seagate hard drive and got the BSOD. When Windows restarted it shows the backup is running even though it is not. Nothing I do has any effect. According to the Task Manager Backup is not running. Rebooting doesn?t help. I am running Win 7 Ultimate (64) on an ASUS computer, 8 Gb ram, AMD Athlon II X2 2.80 GHz processor. This is not the first time I have been backing up to this external drive for about 6 months and I have had no problems.

A:Backup says its running and it is doing nothing

Hello James and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'd start by safely removing the external Seagate from the Asus. If the computer is powered up and the safely remove icon is showing in the system tray, use that. Otherwise, power off the computer and then remove the Seagate just to make sure you're not interrupting any activity.

I'd probably try using a restore point and return the computer to a date/time prior to the backup problem. See if the backup works.

System Restore

Whether the restore point works or not, I'd next check for any damaged or corrupt system files by running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If any problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Please post back if any of this helps or not.

Hey all,

I have managed to run into a problem that I needed some help with addressing in order to not lose my data. To give a bit of background, my laptop has 2 internal hard drives, 1 is my main/primary drive which I used for day to day operation and the other was just a backup drive which has a system image of my system.

My main drive failed, and after many horrifying clicking, scratching and high pitch squeals coming from the drive, I can only assume it has failed mechanically and isn't some kind of virus. So now I'm currently left with only my internal backup drive with a system image on it.

I was hoping to use this backup drive as my new primary drive, however I want to keep the files on the backup drive. I checked with my Hirens Boot CD and saw that my backup drive contains everything my other hard drive had, including the operating system contained within the Windows backup folder.

Normally for this I would install windows on another hard drive and then restore my files with the system image. However my laptop doesn't have a system restore disc or a copy of windows, it instead came with partitions on the hard drive which requires erasing my backup and consequently losing all my data.

I finally ask the question, is it possible to use the files currently stored on the backup drive without having to resort to buying a new hard drive to copy the files across and then partitioning my backup drive?

I assume this is a "Windows-made Image" and not a 3rd party like Macrium Reflect?

- Back up (make image or basicly copy) WHOLE SSD DISC of size cca 150GB with RUNNING SYSTEM WIN7 64 on it, and copy it to another HDD I have in my machine, which have size of 1TB. So those whole SSD with system will easily fit into there.
- Once this is done, I would like to set up regular differential back up of this I have just made, lets say every two weeks, via scheduler.

I heard native windows 7 back up program can do this so I dont need to buy any other third party software. However Looking at it, Im lost with how to do that. If anyone could provide me short step by step turtorial, I would celebrate him
Thank you.
PS: Please DONT recommend me any third party back up programs, because I would like to use win7 back up for this.

Well, I put the cart before the horse.  I found Piriform CC Cleaner on my PC which I assumed was downloaded by a recent service co. we used.  I ran the cc cleaner option and the registry cleaner option.  Today I decided to check on the Piriform software and read a forum reply here that strongly suggested against using the registry cleaner.  The software did do a backup of the registry but when I try to add the documents to the registry I get a "Cannot Import Files" error window.  I am afraid I may not be able to reboot the system now.

A:Trouble running registry backup

Computer techs will often leave a Ccleaner on the desktop of a computer thev,e worked on,its a good basic cleaner.
While one click registry cleaning isnt the best way to edit or maintain the registry its unlikely you,ve done any harm.

You,ve probably lost the .reg file association, have a look here and follow the instructions to repair

http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/troubleshooting/problems-after-you-have-run-ccleaner

Best practice wihen editing the registry is to always back it up first, then you cant go wrong.
Try this

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/erunt/

Just run the exe or unzip and install, then use to backup the registry.(It will also compress the registry for performance,
(run"ntregopt") which is better than one click cleaning.

What type of backup are you doing, a System image, or file backups, and what type of drive are you using for the backup files?

You might open an Administrative command prompt and type sfc /scannow then hit enter. Maybe the System File Check will find a problem it can correct with your system files.

New and fairly clean system...

but whenever I run the Win7-64 bit back up its goes to a bsod after about 10 mins

the boot [C drive] is an SSD about half full
the drive receiving the backup files is a 3tb sata

I have looked at a couple of the minidumps and see different things at diff times...
usually one driver or dll followed by a kernel crash.

Nothing very obscured or strange on the system... certainly nothing that my old XP system don't have and more...
So, I am about to give Paragon Manager a shot at creating a useable back up... but I'd like to hear from anyone with other thoughts.

Using internal scsi sequential device utilizing 4mm media type for back up on server. Approaching max capacity on tapes. Compression ratio 1.33:1. Win2000 OS. Backup Exec 9. Looking for input on replacement. External drive? Library? Media types? I am looking for something that will grow as the company grows. Also anticipating purchasing additional server. Should I run two separate backups for each device or 1 emcompassing data on both? Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A:Running out of room on backup tape

You need to do some research on your comapny's needs and future needs based on the data you will currently be backing up and anticipated growth. I see that you haven't put NAS in your list. Tapes are great because they can be stored off site and DAT would probably suit your needs in the future (plus you can retrieve your old data in a new DAT drive). There are some USB based DAT72 drives from HP that look interesting and they are not that expensive. If you do get another type of drive make sure it is supported under your backup software also.
I personally would have a tape drive for each server, less overhead and less problems doing restores.

I have three Windows 7 Professional PC's. Last December I purchased backup software called Genie 9 Professional and installed it on each machine. The "Genie Timeline Service" service stops running and continuous backup stops until I check and discover the service has stopped. I then have to go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Component Services > Services (Local) and restart the Genie Timeline Service. After I restart the service Genie runs for a few days then the service stops again.

I have worked with Genie Tech Support for several weeks and they do not know why the service stops running. I installed Genie 9 Pro on my daughter's Windows 7 Pro machine at Christmas and she is not having any troubles like I am. Genie Tech Support has finally told me they do not know why the Genie Timeline Services stops running and they have offered me a refund. Genie has many good features and I would like to try to solve this problem instead of getting a refund.

Does anyone have experience with Genie 9 Timeline backup and does anyone know why services stop running?

Thanks, Bill

Welcome Yazoo to the windows 7 forums.

Backing up your xp data while in a virtual session should be fairly easy as your nas should be available as a drive on your windows 7 machine.

I recommend just copying all the data from your palm to the nas in a directory that you create on the nas.

Normally the windows 7 backup won't backup data from a .vhd as it is just a big file to it. You can copy the .vhd to your nas which will make an image of it for retrieval later if you wish.

If your not in xp mode, it won't get backed up.

Hi
I've installed Quicken 2004 on Windows 8.1 in compatibility mode for Windows XP 3 to run as administrator. Everything seems to work well. All my data appears to have been restored including Home Inventory. I can download bank data.
Automatic backup works. I tested this by changing the system date to trigger the backup.
The infuriating thing is I cannot do a manual backup from the file menu. The dialogue box opens. I can complete the relevant fields but when I click OK the program freezes. There are no error messages.
Not sure if this is a Windows issue e.g. permissions or Quicken issue e.g looking for a file that doesn't exist. I have checked the 'Ready for archive' box of the folders, sub-folders, and files property boxes.
Are there any settings in Win 8.1 that I need to change to allow a program to write to a drive when it is running in compatibility mode for Windows XP 3 as administrator?
Thanks.

A:Cannot backup from program running in compatibility mode

EDIT: I'm an idiot. I have no idea how I ended up replying to this topic when this post was meant for another one. Wow... just wow... I guess you now know how to do a back up in Windows 8.1 now though, am I right?

Original Post:

Are you looking for a way to create a full back up of your current state of Windows, including all your files and settings? If so, create a System Image instead.
Press the Windows Key, and type Powershell.Right click Windows PowerShell, and select 'Run As Administrator'.Copy this
Code:
wbAdmin start backup -backupTarget:X: -include:C: -allCritical -quiet
Paste by right clicking into the Powershell window.Change the drive letter 'X' from what you copied to the driver you want to make a back up to.Press Enter/Return.

And that's it! Let it run until it is done. It should also back up your recovery partition and other partitions on the same drive too.

Here is how to use the backup image.
Make sure the backup drive is connected.
Press the Windows Key + C.
Highlight and select Settings.
Select Change PC settings.
Select Update and recovery.
Select Recovery.
Select Advanced start-up which will reboot your PC.
From this menu, select Troubleshooting.
Select Advanced options.
Select System Image Recovery.
After this, just follow the on screen steps. It's pretty easy. It should automatically detect the image folder from the drive.

If you would rather use disks as a recovery method, I can't help you there sorry. I know how to do it, but I'd have ... Read more

I've tried running the built in windows backup twice now, it runs for quite a while, I'd guess an hour or more, then gets a blue screen.

I've collected the information as suggested:

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ?
x64
- the original installed OS on the system?
Factory Install
- an OEM or full retail version?
OEM
- What is the age of system (hardware)?
Dell Studio XPS, just under 1 year old.
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?)
No, I have not reinstalled, it is the factory install

Here is the zip file with the BSOD dump and the report:

Hi, Jamie. I looked at both of your dumps. Both are bugcheck A and both blame athrx.sys, Atheros network adapter driver. This driver is up to date. But on the off chance that it is corrupted, download a new driver from this link, Atheros Communications, uninstall your current driver and install the new driver.

Out of date drivers can cause conflicts and BSOD's. You have two outdated drivers loaded on your system. One is quite obsolete. Update these drivers from the links provided.

Hi after about 20 hours on the phone with quickbooks support, I was told they could not help me determine why quickbooks online could not back up, because it was "windows" that was actually not allowing them to run the program. I got to tier 3, the highest level of customer support only to be told that there was a windows problem that would not even allow them to run any of their programs. Whenever I do click on "back up online" I get a message that reads "back up failed", followed by "IbueEnghost has stopped working". It was backing up perfectly and then out of nowhere just stopped backing up. The QB rep said something was out of wack with Windows, because windows would not allow him to run any programs that he tried running to determine the cause of the problem, this after being on the phone for 3 hours straight.

He tried doing something in control panel too and just couldn't get it to work, Windows blocked him from doing everything. He said it could be that when some anti virus programs had been installed they removed components of windows that are necessary to run certain programs. He said these anti virus programs sometimes eliminate files that are necessary. Please help, as I really need for quickbooks to be backed up online! Thank you so very much. I am eternally grateful for all your help and am hoping I won't have to resort to going to best buy, or staples for horrible tech support, as the rep suggested I do.

Here's the scenario: Iím using a swappable hard drive backup. Itís backing up about 45+ gigs nightly. When I insert the drive, I donít get any errors ďscan-diskĒ on boot-up. In Windows, I run ďScan-diskĒ for extra measures.

When I check the following day, I get corruption errors. The backup was complete. For some reason after completing, it gets corrupted.

Thereís nothing wrong with hard-drives, drive-bay, or the drive-dock.

What can be causing the file corruption? Iím having to re-format the drive cause of the corruption; it renders the data to be useless and un-accessible.

I wanted to see how fast I was backing up to my USB portable drive using EaseUs backup, so I looked in the task manager, see:

It appears to have written 2.6TB in a few minutes. I know it hasn't, it's only a 500GB drive. It claims to be writing about 10GB per second which would finish the backup in 50 seconds, but it takes a few hours.

Any ideas what's going on?

A:Absurd alledged disk writes when running backup

Just a bit of a random guess, I'd say it's just a bad report from task manager. I'd guess that there's some bug preventing TM from gathering accurate info from your hard drive. I don't do much in the way of backups, so I wouldn't be able to tell you specifically if it was some weird behavior. I know you're probably just asking out of curiosity, but if you're worried about it don't be. As long as everything's being backed up properly it shouldn't really matter what it reports.

A few other possible guesses: you're looking at the correct process, right?
It might have something to do with how the backup software works, that it has to report that much activity for some reason. Or, it may even be that that number represents how much it has EVER written and read.

Sorry that I can't give you anything more specific or concrete. Someone else may come along who knows more about it.

I run Macrium reflect free & create an image every week but have always assumed it created a new image (due to my choosing full backup every time) but had used a small 1TB HD for backup so didn't notice anything amiss. Recently I began using a 4TB HD & therefore thought it would now begin to show each image separately, but I checked after running it this week & noticed the image had the same date as previous backup. I thought I would ask here for advice on what I should be seeing with the backup.
I'm choosing to backup via the .xml file - right clicking & choose full backup/image.
Should running full backup every time create separate images or just go over the original image?
If go over the original/first image, will it retain the original date & time or update it to show the new image date/time?

Tia,

A:Macrium reflect - running a backup/image question

It should create a new image every time unless you are running short of hard drive space and have the option checked to purge and/or keep only 1 backup:

I always uncheck the backup via xml file so I can't say for sure what that will do.

I have created a biweekly task to create an image backup of my system. I have partitioned my Hard drive to C: for windows & program files and all other data in a drive named P: When I go through the image backup through windows' 'backup and restore' to an external harddrive I get no errors, however, when I run it from the task I have created the following warning appears at the cmd promptsee screen)

I am now scared that it is not going to backup all the necessary files in case something goes wrong. Could this be because in my command I have not added the 'recovery' drive that Dell comes with which has a factory recovery Image? If so, how do I add it on the command line as it's not really a letter drive (like C: ) or maybe I don't need it at all? I'm a bit confused on this one. thanks.

A:Scheduled Image Backup gives me strange warning before running.

I don't have an answer for your backup, as I use Macrium.

However, think about this. If you partition your hard drive and do a "backup" to a partition on that hard drive, if that drive would fail completely any backups are lost. Back up to a physically separate drive for best reliability.

So I have a Windows 7 PC that I've been doing backups on for years and all of a sudden this error started coming up.  Doesn't matter what media I'm trying to backup to, internal, external, still happens.
In Event Viewer I get the following series of messages:
4097 - backup starting;
12305 - Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Volume/disk not connected or not found. Error context: DeviceIoControl(\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy54 - 00000000000001A4,0x00530194,0000000000000000,0,00000000003A2030,4096,[0]).

4100 - Backup did not complete successfully because a shadow copy could not be created. Free up disk space on the drive that you are backing up by deleting unnecessary files and then try again.
1001 - windows error reporting containing the info from above.
This is very odd because I do regular backups and the only things that have changed are that I substantially reduced the amount of data on the boot partition in order to make the backup run faster, then I formatted the internal SAS drive I use to backup
to because the backup was going to be smaller so I thought I would start over.
Ever since I did that it has been pooched.  I thought maybe it was a disk allocation unit size problem and it couldn't see the drive but I can't backup to anything, including an external HDD I've used for awhile.
Tried all the obvious stuff I could think of, e.g. clean boot.  I keep reading something about how the system partition has to be at least 40MB, we... Read more

After downloading an email utility from CNET/download.com I picked up the MyPC Backup malware. I followed some online instruction on removal (basically finding the folder and using the included uninstall.exe). However, now my computer is so slow as to be effectively useless in Normal mode. I can still run in Safe Mode with Networking. I've made the requested scans with results below. However, dds.scr produces only gobblygook with the message "This program cannot be run in DOS mode." Additionally, after running GMER for 36 hours it quit working and wouldn't let me copy the identified rootfits, though what was visible was all centered on C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I have a new Dell XPS8700 (i7 CPU, 16 GB RAM, Windows 8.1) and everything was fine until the Dell Backup and Recovery software appeared a couple of days ago, i.e. a Window appeared and prompted me to initiate / install the software (can't actually remember exactly what the message was...). Anyways, it seemed to load up ok (albeit very slowly), but ever since then the computer is running at snail's pace, i.e. videos play jerkily and it has to stop and think before opening some files. Very annoying.
I can't be 100% that it is the Backup and Recovery Software that has caused this, but the slow down exactly coincided with it, and I haven't done much else to the computer. The only things I've done are to get rid of McAfee now the free trial has run out and download Avira anti-virus software, and install Adobe Lightroom (and download a load of photos). These changes didn't cause any problems.
I'd be very grateful for any help. If it is this software, can I just uninstall it? Do other people get this problem?

Your problem is down to Trusteer, and this has been known to cause BSODs in the past from what I can find out.

Hi, I am new to this site, and in need of assistance. When trying to help fix/optimize my grandmother's laptop (HP Pavilion dv6208nr), I apparently messed it up.
Initially i was having trouble with internet connection as the computer was getting the 169.xx.xxxx IP Address error, and I stumbled across a thread on this site that , tried ipconfig commands, netsh winsock commands, etc, but got nowhere. Gave instructions to manually configur IP settings in command promt to mirror a working computer on the network, which I was successful in doing. Still need to address the IP issues, as my g-ma travels, so disabling DHCP and manually configuring IP settings is a band-aid I was using in order to gain internet access necessary to install MCAfee and Spybot, which I planned to use to clean out any residual issues stemming from her 1 1/2 ish years of using her laptop with no security.
I should also mention that I purchased and installed WIN CLEANER (bad move, I know), and ran it, which "cleaned the registry". Ya, right. Since this, I did "undo" the registry cleaning, but I feel damage was done.
So next I attempted to run MCAfee, and during a scan, BSOD with fuzzy screen.
I got nervous, so I attached my WD 300G hard drive to backup the files on the computer, and again, BSOD, fuzzy screen.
Tried again to run both of the above, and also downloaded/ran Spybot Search and Destroy, all with the same results.
I was able to boot in safe mode, re-install MCAffee from C... Read more
