Router's been reset; devices won't take new password

Q: Router's been reset; devices won't take new password

I was having internet issues. Modem is def. not the problem. I did a factory reset on my Netgear R6400 router. I changed the network names (for the 2.4 and 5 ghz) and the password. None of my devices that used to use the wifi now accept the new password. Also, my devices are seeing both the generic network names (Netgear23 and Netgear23-5g) AND the new name I've given the network.

Preferred Solution: Router's been reset; devices won't take new password

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Router's been reset; devices won't take new password

If you gave the same SSID's as previously you'd, probably, have to "forget" the network, reboot and then re-connect with the new password.

Well, I own a D-Link DIR-615 Router, And I forgot my router log-in, AND Wi-Fi Passwords. I went on a trip somewhere, and my computer was reset when I left with it. (Still have PC connected though.) And I just CANNOT reset the thing. I tried default etc etc. But I need to find a way... =\ I still have one Vista computer working with it, But the password comes out to: ***** or dots. (its hidden) Is there a way to show them?

Also, Is there a way to change your MAC adress?

A:Forgot Router log-in password/Wifi password, Cannot be Reset (As in; not going to)

As I think that you already know, the solution is to reset the router to factory defaults. When you reconfigure it tape the pertinent account/password/encryption key information to the bottom of the router.

Some ISPs track the MAC Address of the device connected to the modem. It is perfectly fine and easily done to clone the registered MAC address to the router's WAN to avoid having to call the ISP. There is no other need that I know of to change a MAC Address.

Other than the above advice your thread is subject to our password rule:

Passwords - Please do not ask for assistance with forgotten passwords and/or bypassing them. As there is no way to verify the actual situation and/or intentions, no assistance will be provided and any such threads will be closed.Click to expand...

I will leave the thread open for now in case you have trouble with the reset or finding the user guide.

Nobody can sign on to my home Wireless on their phone or laptop. I have the password written down but it won't accept it. This may be because I can't exactly identify the numbers/letters as I have them written, i.e. "s" looks like "5" the letter "o" could be the number Zero. I tried all variations I coud think of, but it keeps rejecting it. I tried the http://routerlogin.net thing, but that didn't work either. I think I have to do a hard reset to factory default settings, but then how will I know what the new password is? I know.... dumb question. Sorry. I'm not good at this stuff at all.

A:Router password reset problem

The easiest fix is to use an Ethernet cable connected between the laptop and the router.

Assuming it's a Netgear router, connect the cable then open an Internet browser on the laptop and type (or if that doesn't work) into the address area and press Enter. You should now see the Router's settings in the browser and you can view or change the wireless password there, you may have to search to find it.

Hi there,
I have a Fios Quantam Gateway router and I was wondering if anyone out here knew how to reset the admin password.

A:I need to reset my router's admin password

Reset the router to factory default settings. Typically you hold the recessed reset button for 20 seconds or so, but check the user guide to make sure of the procedure.

I have a Lynksis WRT54GS Ver. 6 router. I tried to log in, pop up asks for user name and password. Nothing works! I've reset the router and the same thing happens. I know it reset because I now have an unsecured network. I've tried resetting again, again and again, but nothing happens.

I then changed to a older Trendnet router I had but the same thing happens, even after resetting it, it asks for the password but won't accept the default passwords shown in the manual. Any suggestions?

A:How to reset wireless router's password

Did you change the password or is it set to the default
post make and model - and th emanual will tell you the default settings

otherwise you should be able to reset to factory conditions - a button on the back you need to hold in for 10secs BUT you will need to set it all up again , and if on ADSL you will need your ISP username and password

Evening all !
This is is driving me bonkers !
I recently changed the wireless access password on my BT Infinity router and disconnected every device - including 4 phones, 2 iPads a laptop and an aging Vista PC.
I've changed all the passwords on all the devices and they all connect again to the hub under the new password - except the PC !
The PC connects via a Belkin USB adapter.
The wireless network appears - highlight, click connect - says getting information from BTHub, eventually asks for the password - enter my new password - and immediately get Windows cannot connect.
Things I've tried :
Rebooted BTHub
Rebooted PC (several times)
Control Panel > Network and sharing centre > Manage Wireless Networks  and deleted network profiles.
Deleted the USB adapter and reinstalled.
The Belkin device is working OK as I can connect to an non-secure BT Hotspot on the PC and it's blue light flashes (as normal) when communicating with the BTHub.
Any advice greatly appreciated - this is the Old machine I've dedicated to the kids for You Tube etc. - they ain't happy !!!!!!!!!
Many thanks
Blue Sierra

A:Changed wireless router password for security - all devices connect except PC !

Was the driver downloaded from the Belkin site? Right click the adapter in Device Manager and select Properties. Under the Details tab select Hardware IDs in the dropdown box. Copy and paste the first line in your next post. There may be a later driver available, especially if an intel chipset is used.
What is the model number of the Belkin? Did you change the encryption type on the router? i.e. from WPA to WPA2? TPIK to AES?

Having recently (today) inherited my company's IT support role (Without any real training / qualifications ) I'm coming across a number of small issues, one of which is the following:

All machines at my company are independently managed by their own (local) Administrator account, across the board the Username and Pass to access the Admin account is the same... except for a single machine.

It seems this machine has a differing password to the other machines, unfortunately the previous administrator is no longer contactable, I however require access to the administrator account. To the best of my knowledge he didn't set-up a Password Reset Disk either.

I've read about various 3rd party tools which can enable the resetting of the Administrator Password but am loathe to try them without first hand confirmation of their validity etc (On my head be it and so forth)

Is there any method to determine what the Admin pass may be, or should I plump for a 3rd party tool to aid in the resetting of the pass? If so, does anyone have any suggestions for which to use?

If it makes any difference, the machines are networked to a Mac Xserve server - though as I understand it, I wont be able to access locally stored passwords through the server itself?

Many thanks for any light that can be shed upon this issue

Trying to reset the password on and old C400, it is asking for primary or administrator password. I have no idea what to put in there, and can't see if  the computer will function at all!  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

A:Need the reset for password on Latitude C400, bios revision A06, original password.?

You'll need to call Dell with verification of ownership -- it may not be worth it though, since the call will cost about $60, which is probably about six times more than the entire system is worth.
The other option is to replace the mainboard - which is probably well under $60.

I was just wondering about what is recommended from this great knowledge base.

We run a Sonicwall TZ210 wireless, Motorola modem, and Netgear Prosafe 24 port switch.

Every week we religiously restart our server and unplug/reset the Sonicwall and modem but haven't touched the switch. We aren't experiencing any issues with productivity but I'm a "glass is half empty" guy. Would it be prudent to include the switch into the weekly process or does it not really matter?

A:Reset of devices

Not really. The only memory in a switch is for MAC addresses. Unmanaged switches are designed to run forever without power cycling. But it won't hurt.

I bought a laptop about a year ago. Shortly after buying it, we lost the password before making a backup disk. I couldn't change the password, we run Windows 7, without the old password. Luckily, or so we think, we have one of those laptops that has a fingerprint scanner so I have been able to log on using my fingerprint as a password. However, I can't believe that I am locked out of changing the passwords on this computer.

I have learned my lesson! Always back it up first! But for now, I need some help. I am also a little worried that I may have been hacked into. A friend said that if your password all of a sudden doesn't work, that is a sign of a hacker. That is what it felt like happened to me. I swear I thought I had the password right, then all of a sudden it stops working.

Thanks so much-Bill

I cant access my router. I need to change the passwords on it, witch I redid with my internet provider company. So, no shared internet within the house.

The thing is, no reset button on the router. I was away 2 days, and later today I found out that my brother had changed something with the router previously. After that - no access to the router via usual way (enter ip in inet client). He did talked something, that he only changed one thing.
Something from TCP/IP option to Router option. Dont know under what catacory or so.

I see 2 options: reset router somehow, or contact it another way than regulary and duo to the brother changes. There is just one button on the router btw. on/off. But that dosnt seem the completely reset it.

The router itself is a Chronos Broadband Router, cant say anything more specific about it. No mark or so. Only - support NAT for IP sharing and 4-port 100Mbs Base-T Fast Ethernet Switch.
If that problem rings any bells to someone and knows how to reset it or access it, please post. Help much appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi, One option, if all your personal data etc is backed-up or you have nothing you need to save, would be to reset the notebook to its 'Factory Condition' and then set it up from the beginning ? if you don?t have your Recovery Media, the notebook will have shipped with a Recovery Partition which can be accessed at boot - ie shutdown the notebook, then start tapping away at f11 as soon as you power on. A full guide on this can be found on the following link. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04758961 Regards, DP-K

Hi, If you're running Windows 8 or 8.1, see the Microsoft page on the following link. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/forgot-windows-password Note:  If you have a Local Account, try the free application Here. If you're running Windows 7, Vista etc, try the following. Using another PC, download the application on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. PC Login Now When the download has completed, open your Downloads folder and double-click the installer - this will result in another file appearing which is the disc image ( .ISO ) that you need to burn to a blank CD. You will now need to use an application such as ImgBurn to burn this ISO correctly to a blank CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here. When the disc has been created, shutdown the PC you can't log-in on, tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to access the Start-up Menu, insert the CD, select Boot Options ( usually f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and hit enter - you may also have to 'Press any key' to boot from the CD if asked. Follow the instructions on the guide Here to remove the current password. Regards, DP-K

A:HELP needed! I have reset windows and now have no audio devices!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Do you have onboard sound, or a separate sound card?

If you have onboard sound and your computer is an oem build, such as Dell/Compaq/Gateway etc. You can get your sound drivers etc from your computer manufacturers website.

If your computer is not an oem build. You can get the sound drivers from your mobo manufacturers website. You should also install the chipset(mobo) drivers as well.

If you have a separate sound card, you will need to go to your soundcard manufacturers website.

Some of my devices are able to connect directly to my wireless router, no problem. Other devices seem to connect to the router, but cannot access the internet, and can't even access the router page (connecting to the router's IP in browser). In these cases the error thrown is "Unable to connect to DNS servers".

There is no relation between the devices able to or unable to disconnect. (I have a laptop that will connect, a desktop w/ wireless adapter that will not, a Nintendo Switch that will not, several tablets and mobile phones that will, etc.)
Yes, I have checked, they are set to automatically obtain DNS servers.

The laptop in question is a Dell running WIndows 7. The problem came up quite suddenly, right in the middle of browsing the internet. I did a speed test and am getting something like 0.29 Mbps down and 0.56 up when on Wifi and when the laptop is plugged into one of the ports in the back of the router (Linksys WRT54G). When plugged directly into the cable modem, speeds are normal. No other devices that utilize this wireless router are having any speed issues (another laptop, phones, printer that is plugged into the router).

I have tried two different virus scans (MSE and Malwarebytes Anti Malware). I tried a system restore, this didn't work either. Not sure what else to do. Anyone have any ideas?

I currently have an ATT Unite Pro that I am using as my connection to the Internet and as a router for three to four computers, two to three mobile devices and a printer. I have heard the Unite is not that good at switching and routing and so I am looking to insert a router that can connect to the Unite wirelessly giving the Unite only one device to service, then all of the other computers and devices will connect to the inserted router. Two of the computers currently connect via wireless USB but can connect via CAT5 if available, one computer connects via CAT5 to an extender and wireless from there to the Unite and one connects wirelessly only to the Unite.
I am looking for suggestions of which routers would be the best to accomplish this.

So I have had the same router for years now (Belkin f5d7623-4) and whilst its had its problems over the years its generally been okay. On my home network I have my Sony Vaio and my Asus, a ps3, both my iphone 4 and 5, my samsung tv, as well as my mum's acer netbook and her galaxy s3.

My iphone 4 is a few years old now and has for some time struggled to consistently connect and stay connected to the wifi, my asus had some problems but they were hardware related and I fixed them a couple of months ago. The acer netbook had been connecting to the wifi fine since my mum was given it when a few months ago it suddenly wouldnt connect and no matter what I did to the settings of the laptop or router it could not be solved, as my mum is not heavily reliant on technology we got her a long ethernet cable as a short-term fix. A few weeks later I wanted to use the internet functions of my samsung tv so I took the cable from the netbook as my mum wasnt there at the time. When my mum returned she complained about me having taken the cable but then found her netbook was working over the wifi again, since then it has stopped working with the wifi again. My vaio and ps3 have never suffered problems before and my 5 has only began to struggle since being water damaged.

About 3 days ago I was in my kitchen where the wifi barely reaches and therefore paid no attention when my vaio lost connection and wouldnt regain it. It... Read more

A:Devices and router teaming up to fry my brain

With the iphone I would try to forget the wifi network under your settings and then trying to reconnect it. They have weird issues like this often and that usualy fixes the issues. I have also have seen issues in the past with how my wireless routers have been configured. I have seen issues with mixed mode configurations and such. Can you send me any information on how your wireless router is configured?

Hi everyone. Ive been having a problem with my Netgear WGT624v3 router. Its broadcasting the WIFI signal ok. My devices pick it up but cannot connect. If i go and unplug the router and then plug it back in all the devices connect. They will stay connected for several hours but then the connection will drop. They can still see the router and they try to connect but i have to unplug it and then plug it back in, then they all connect again. Its happened with my phone, my laptop and my Kindle Fire. Any ideas guys? Thanks.

A:Devices sees Router but will not connect

can we see the following form one of the wireless pc when connected and working and the repeat ALL the tests when it disconnects

ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need... Read more

I have a THOMSON TG585 v7 DSL router and when I browsed devices connected i found 2 unknown devices and apart from my 2 pcs, a switch and a media player I have nothing else wired and the wireless option is disabled.

A:unknown devices connected to DSL router

Obvious question #1: do you learn anything by clicking on the unknown devices?

Obvious question #2: do the unknown devices correspond to the switch and media player (check the MAC addresses)?

A friend currently has a Belkin wireless G router and uses a D-Link DGL-3420 gaming adapter to connect her XBox 360 to her wireless network. This configuration works fine but she did have an issue where the connection was lost and the troubleshooting tool on the Xbox 360 recommended using an 802.11a connection to avoid possible interference problems. Apparently, the wireless Xbox 360 controller she uses broadcasts at 2.4GHz, just like 802.11g.

So, I'm looking at replacing her Belkin router with one that supports 802.11a. I see 802.11n wireless routers should support 802.11a/b/g devices but I was wondering if anyone here had any "real world" experience with connecting to a 802.11n wireless router using 802.11a.

Did it work for you? Have any problems?

A:Anyone have experience with 802.11a devices and a 802.11n wireless router?

I've connected to my ZyXEL N router using an 802.11a adapter, worked just fine. That's a sample of one.
